The Coach House in Brighton and Hove

We were spending a few days in Rottingdean and came to the conclusion that this was the best place for good value well cooked food. There is a large choice of traditional dishes on the blackboard (the printed menu is quite limited). The portions are huge and the food is good quality and well cooked. It's a good idea to book as it gets very busy, even midweek in October. The staff are friendly and helpful and the service is good. We came twice: can recommend the ribs and also the fresh local fish. I had black bream, not cheap but really good and perfectly cooked, with a choice of potatoes and veg or salad. A nice pub atmosphere.

Have heard good reports, so treated my wife for her birthday. She had a massive plate of Pork ribs, slaw and chips and I had the Haddock risotto, after sharing a Whitebait starter. The reports are all true. Excellent and far bigger portions than we are used to! Will come again to this busy venue.

Fantastic food, great service, lovely place and location. We had a table for 3 (lunch), right by the window with a view of the ocean. Brilliant service from the staff, who were all really friendly. We had ham, egg and chips, a BLT with chips and king prawns from the specials board. We all were delighted with our meals! My king prawns especially were phenomenally cooked, with a lovely garlic and chilli oil. Will return!

Lovely pub! Can’t deny that. Usually lovely food. 3 out of 4 dishes were great. Suggest you avoid the Chicken Kyiv. Today’s was sadly over cooked and the garlic butter was non existent! Mentioned it on 3 occasions including twice when paying the bill. But no reduction! Even £5 off the bill to compensate would have avoided this review but the attitude was ‘oh well that’s a shame, but no!’ It was a shame as the rest of the food was as lovely as usual. Just be careful what you order is the best advice.

We’ve been to Rottingdean numerous times and don’t know why we’ve never used this pub . Well today we did and it won’t be the last. Friendly welcome, everything was explained about menus and ordering at the bar . There was so much choice. Very extensive specials board. The pricing was very competitive. The pub itself was clean and tidy and the food was really good. We left feeling very full and content.

The menu choice is incredible. The drink selection is extensive. It's a little on the pricey side but well worth it. The staff are lovely.

We recently held a remembrance event for my father at The Coach House, and it was a truly memorable experience. The buffet food was fabulous, with every dish exceeding our expectations. The balcony provided a wonderful setting for the sunny day, offering a perfect spot to gather and reflect. The staff were incredibly helpful, ensuring that everything ran smoothly and that all our needs were met. We couldn't have asked for a better venue to celebrate my father's life.

Seaview is stunning and close to our flat. The menu is misleading and encourages you to order more. The food taste is fine, but the service is very poor.

I visited this pub in Rottingdean near Brighton and found it to be most welcoming, the staff were very professional in their jobs and chatted to the customers as if you were a part of their family. This is a proper English pub with modern extras like food cooked fresh by a qualified chef, a varied amount of beers,wines and spirits can be bought here. There is a balcony and outside seating if that's what you like but these places can become crowded very quickly so try to arrive early to secure your spot. It's a homely place where everyone is friendly one to definitely visit if you are in the area, you won't be disappointed and the prices are reasonable!

There’s a lot of choice in Rottingdean and for me the best food overall is this place. It’s also a fabulous pub of course. Beer battered haddock and chips - wonderful.

What an amazing seafood platter…we had just about everything. You can’t see the chips as they were underneath the platter. Staff were wonderful very friendly highly recommended

Never knew this existed, but what a gem to find in Rottingdean. Lovely open light decor, friendly staff, and delicious food. Give it a visit you will not be disappointed 🙂

Very good. I do like a bit of chill out music whilst I go about my business and, lo and behold, this place played the chill out music. I was going to ask who was responsible but the bar people were busy. Alas - lovely oldy wordly pub, chill out music. And Staropramen. Nice.

Fantastic meal 😋 Had the Sunday roast. My husband had chicken, which was huge. My sister and I had lamb ,all with fresh vegetables, yorkshire pud,and roast potatoes! These were served piping hot and were absolutely delicious. I had lots of lamb and as much as I enjoyed it, I just couldn't manage it all. After a little break , we decided to have dessert. My sister and husband had crumble, which they thoroughly enjoyed . I went for the banoffee, which was huge, very delicious, probably one of the tastiest ever eaten. Sorry 😞 to say I just couldn't finish it ,but I had a bloomin good try. 😄I can honestly say that food is great, staff are lovely, but I do recommend if you have banoffee you may want to share.😊 Many thanks to all the staff . We'll be back.X

Wow. Read the reviews on the Coach house, phoned the night before and booked for Sunday lunch. Arrived about 12:15, ordered food. Huge meal, roast half chicken, hot plates and food, delicious, every mouthful. Had to leave it half an hour before attempting pudding, rhubarb crumble and custard, another big portion and oodles of custard. Service is the best, polite, helpful and happy staff, and excellent value for money. If you want a great meal, service and for the right price, this is the place to eat. Thanks to all.

One amazing experience! We decided on a whim to go towards Brighton on a Saturday morning and I am glad we did! Walking along the coast towards Rottingdean was super relaxing and ending up in this pub was just the cherry on the top! Nothing fancy, people dressed casually, with kids (us) and dogs (others) on tow. The food was delicious, portions were big and prices were fair for quantity and quality. The ladies that manned the bar and helped us around with arranging the table for kids and helicoptered around us to make sure all is good... were more than great, friendly and a pleasure to talk to. So, to sum up... wonderful area, good atmosphere, great food, the pocket won't scream at the end of this affair, and you will go away with a relaxing experience. Enjoy!

We have just moved into the village and this place is turning into one of our favourite places to eat and drink. As a bar, we have never had to wait more than 2 mins to get served. It is a very friendly pub and the atmosphere is always good. We had some family visit with a dog last Sunday so the best place to go after a seaside walk was the Coach House. The roasts were spot on with a good supply of veg and roast potatoes. There were 7 of us and the staff managed to bring all the meals out together, still pipping hot. The staff were excellent and we were well looked after. One word of warning, the banoffee waffle is huge and I had to share it. There was no way I could that on my own. Overall excellent pub with excellent food and staff.

We had a Lunch time mid week meal with the family. Great big plates of food, all very tasty and reasonably priced, attentive staff, lovely atmosphere inside. You won’t regret it. Best to book up (call) for evening dining and weekends. Drop in for 1-2 people might be ok.

Great pub, we had a spot by the window & could see the sea. The cheesy chips were large and delicious, the staff were really friendly and there was a great atmosphere watching the rugby. 100% will return.

During a bit of a pickle in travel I popped in, the staff were very accommodating and let me charge my phone, the selection of on tap drinks is impressive and a cozy atmosphere is always a winner, I'll have to come back to try the food, it looked and smelled great, sadly I didn't have the time today.

The best pub Sunday roast I’ve had for a long time …I had the chicken but other choices all looked good. Excellent service, friendly staff and great atmosphere. Have visited several times as local but today was the best! Highly recommend and will be back.

Awesome pub lunch today. The vibe & the quality of food & service is excellent. The menu is vast and will suit all tastes & diets + the beer is tasty from the taps. Can’t fault my experience today. I’ll definitely be back for more.

We visited the coach house on 2 occasions within a 6 week period and booked into this lovely establishment, The ambience was cosy and busy in a comfortable way with the service beyond our experience in this modern day. The choice of food made the taste buds drool just reading the menu, and when placed in front of you on the table you understand why. Cost wise it was not expensive concidering the enjoyinment we had whilst visiting local family and will certainly book a return visit next time we come this way. Tony and Margaret.

Stopped here after walking the Undercliff Walk. It was a Saturday so it was very busy. We got our drinks and ordered a bite to eat. We ended up ordering a second round because it took so long to get our food, must have been close to an hour. I had the halloumi fries which were terrific, but I'm not sure they were worth that long a wait. My husband had a sandwich and chips, an enormous amount of food. The place has a great vibe and we enjoyed the people watching. It's in a perfect location, too.

Attractive bar and dining room downstairs, with another dining room upstairs that has a balcony with a view of the sea (and off shore windfarm in the distance). Order at the bar. Friendly, accommodating staff bring food to your table. The Coach House has the best Ploughman's pub lunch I've ever found - multiple, high quality cheeses, and Cole slaw salad that's not mostly mayonnaise. Secure wifi.

Popped down to see friend at marina walked along coast to Rottingdean and came across pub. A very friendly welcome, excellent food,best home made steak and kidney pie. Good value and variety on menu. Definitely recommend the food and service.

Me and my husband regularly go to the C&H and it is honestly the best place for food. We have worked our way through the extensive menu and every dish is superb. I particularly love the mussels and the lasagna. Portion size is very generous and I can’t fault anything. The waiting staff are so polite and the whole place has such a welcoming feel. It’s our favourite place to eat any day of the week. 10/10

What a gem. Discovered by accident on a very wet and windy evening the welcome was warm, the portions were hugh and food very tasty. Will be coming back and recommending to friends a family. A solid pub, just how it should be

What a gem!!!! It is a pub/restaurant. It does not have fancy decor. It does not have a beer garden, but what it does have is … excellent staff, fantastic selection of beer, amazing food, fantastic menu, reasonably priced wine, a warm welcome. Comfy seats. Dog friendly. Iove, love, love it!!!!

Friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere in the downstairs bar area. They had the Rugby World Cup friendlies on in the upstairs area, we watched England v Wales. It filled up and the food was delicious we both had fish and chips

There are very few pubs left which are independent and run by an ever present Landlord couple. It shows. This is by a long way the best pub in Rottingdean. It boasts an incredible position looking onto the water and great food. Specials are better than the typical pub fare (you don’t expect to be able to order a fresh skate wing on a Tuesday) and there is a strong local following that manages to be vibrant and yet welcoming and not at all cliquey.

Great find today, friendly and relaxed atmosphere, food superb with good portions! Plenty of choice on the specials board.

Thanks Hayley for fitting us in on a very busy St Patrick’s Day. As always the food was exceptional and the atmosphere terrific. We have been coming to The Coach for many years and we have to say that you have consistently delivered great beer and superb food over that timeframe. So if you want to get away from the “boil in the bag” standardised fare that so many pubs wrongly call “homemade”, then this gem of a pub is where you will find genuinely great homemade dishes cooked with care. Not the most friendly land lady I've come across, food was smothered in thick gravy, suggested put it in a gravy boat, shrugged her shoulders and took plates away

Best cheesy garlic bread in the country…ever…period. And forget the chips! Just go for fish goujons…there isn’t a fish and chip place in town that can compete with this.

Nice pub, but we ordered hot chocolate and it was incredibly sweet, packed full of sugar and almost undrinkable. Probably great if you order beer, but steer well clear of their hot chocolate!
