With this being the only cage in Oundle that takes orders on just eat I was hoping it was going to be good… I was disappointed. The pizza base was bland tasted like cardboard and completely ruined what were decent quality toppings. The chips were ok. The waffles are clearly store brought despite how easy it is to make a bowl of batter in the morning. They were reheated in a microwave which resulted in about a quarter of each waffle being hard and burned on the inside. I won’t be ordering or visiting again.

The best spot for breakfast in Oundle. Although the wait time might be a little long on busy days, I'm sure it's due to understaffing issues as the staff that are there are very attentive and helpful to get tables cleared and when the food comes out, it's well worth the wait! In my experience, staff has always been very lovely and do their best to give you the best experience possible.

Hi We were really disappointed with our visit earlier today. Having used this business over several years we can’t believe how low standards have become. Where do I start? Well the tables that were vacant(including ours) were full of used plates, cups and cutlery from previous customers and there was no urgency to clear. Ours was only cleared at our request and incredibly would have been left even after our drinks arrived. Appalling customer service(maybe a lack of training)but this is basic. We requested the table be wiped cleaned and although arrogantly acknowledged it was never done during our stay. The ordering process was slow and laborious-it was evident the member of staff was really struggling and there was no supervision or help. I had ham,egg and chips-it was thrown together and appeared to me like a child’s meal-9 yes 9 chips!!! The bread and butter I ordered turned up as toast after I’d finished my children’s meal-pathetic. My complaints were made known to the waiting staff who quite frankly weren’t bothered or interested-in essence will be of no surprise that we won’t be back. Whoever is running this establishment now needs to get a grip and engage in some staff training in customer service, cleanliness, speed and efficiency-the basics aren’t difficult!!!!

We were in Oundle visiting friends and arrived early so decided to grab a bite to eat whilst we waited for them. We spotted The Coffee Tavern on the corner of Market Place and decided to give it a go due to it appearing very popular. A simple paninis and coffee was all we needed. We ordered at the counter and took a seat near the window. A very nice young lady brought our food to the table (and the WiFi password) which was well presented, hot and tasty. My wife visited the toilets which she described as small but perfectly functional. There is additional seating on an upper floor and from talks with locals this seems to be one of the better places to grab a breakfast. As an added bonus; Oundle is a beautiful little market town!

This used to be a very agreeable place to have breakfast. Sadly, it is no longer the case. On walking in, remnants of previous customers meals on the tables (and the floor). Not particularly busy so no excuse for that. Table was sticky. The order had to be repeated several times (ie poached not fried eggs) before it sank in. Tea arrived after 10 mins or so. Was on the verge of asking for a refund and walking out after another 25 minute wait when breakfast appeared. Not particularly appetising, I’m afraid. Cheap sausages & bacon - both of which were very salty and didn’t eat them all. Puddle or two of grease under the hash browns. Couldn’t manage to eat them either. On the up-side, the poached eggs were excellent. As I said, this WAS a very agreeable place for breakfast, not any longer. I will not visit again.

First time in Oundle, so chose Coffee Tavern, because it looked just right in the street. Ordered two coffees and the gentleman at the counter took my money and put the till slip food order on the bar on the back wall. There had been some customers in front of me who had ordered coffee too. The place appears to be popular with people and there is a room for Mums and kids upstairs. After about a 10 - 12 minutes wait I went downstairs to see where the coffee was. The man who took my order apologised and said that they had been very busy and shortly after our coffees appeared, complete with a nice biscuit. The coffee was okay too, but it was a long time coming. .

The Coffee Tavern offers an excellent range of food at reasonable prices. It’s in a central and convenient location and very much recommended. The only issue is tidiness. It must be extremely difficult to keep a busy place like this spotless and giving somewhere 1 star because of that issue as some seem to is very very unfair. However there is room for improvement. I would suggest a simple system of as soon as anyone leaves the tables are thoroughly cleaned. The tables/chairs make the task more difficult as the tables are waxed and chairs fabric covered. They will both absorb/show previous food/spillages. If the budget allows and I’m sure this has been thought of hard wood tables and chairs with replaceable cushions might help.

This lovely little popular cafe has a team of very friendly staff with good customer care skills. The menu has something for everyone at whatever time of day. We’ve had coffee with lovely cakes here many times and sometimes sat in the square in the sun watching the town going by. Today we chose to breakfast. The menu is amazing for such a small cafe catering for ever taste and extremely reasonably priced!. Breakfast came up hot and good sized portions. It was very tasty albeit the bacon was too crisp for my liking. The coffee was the best in town! A delightful experience.

We have been eating at this cafe for over 10 years now but since it changed hands recently and has a new cook the quality of food has gone down. The portion sizes are smaller and half the menu has been removed.I ordered 2 chip butties yesterday and there were barely 10 chips in it and the bread wasn't buttered.Today my husband a I went for breakfast ..we waited almost an hour for half our breakfast. The fried bread was over fried to a black crisp and drowning in oil, so much so half the plate was covered in it. My poached eggs on toast arrived as my husband was finishing. The toast wasn't even toasted! Come on... even the serving staff should know what toast looks like. Then having waited a little longer for my breakfast now lunch (by which time my husband was done with what he could eat) I took the fried bread to the kitchen and explained our situation, only for the for new cook to tell me that this is how fried bread is. When I asked about my toast...she simply said I did toast it ..we are doing it again. At this point I'd had enough and asked for a refund and left. She didn't once take ownership of the problem. It's a real shame as this place was great..in all these years we never once had any issue with breakfast or lunch. The ladies were all brilliant.Even placing the order was a joke. We had to repeat it 4 times to the guy at the counter. He really struggled to take the order correctly.I so wish I had taken a picture of the food today. Appalling!

The amount of places you go where the food quality is poor, it was a pleasure eat this breakfast. The Kids has the cheesiest chips you’ve ever seen and they disappeared very quickly. Was well looked after from start to finish and the bill was more than reasonable. As a family, we have been eating at the Coffee Tavern for almost 10 years. The food has always been beautifully fresh, with local produce and overall good value for money. Today though, I simply can't believe how much it has gone downhill - what on earth has happened. The Lasagne was inedible, and I don't use that phrase lightly, it was swimming in grease and had no flavour at all. Having returned the food, we swapped it for the trusty Ploughmans, which has been a favourite of ours over the years. Guess what - processed sliced cheese, on a Ploughmans (the kind you'd get on a beefburger at a fairground!). I really hope this was a one off, but judging by the other recent reviews here, I don't hold out much hope. The new owners simply must improve the quality of food and service if they are going to retain faithful existing customers.

We have always enjoyed our visits to the coffee tavern but sadly not on this occasion. Ther appears to have been a change of staff and or ownership as the food and service was poor. Previously we have enjoyed locally sourced products which were well cooked on hot plates and served in a short period of time, even when busy. Not on this occasion, the restaurant was quiet, unusually for a Sunday morning and the breakfast took so long to arrive that I had drunk my way through a pot of tea. The plates were cold, the food was Luke warm and lack lustre in taste, more cash and carry than from the farm. The poached eggs were really poor, more hard boiled, no soft centre. I’m sorry to say but at the high price being asked for food at the coffee tavern we will not visit again.

I have been a customer of this cafe or restaurant for many years and I have never been disappointed. All the meals have been very fresh, and tasty with generous portions. As a vegetarian there is plenty of choice and partaking with my very mixed taste types have always found very good food here with no complaints from my carnivore friends. There is plenty of seating with an upstairs area with great views over the town center and market area. The food quality is first class, you will not find much - if any - catering standard food here. Their hot drinks are always of high standard and tasty.Waiting time for orders has always been acceptable even during busy times. The ground floor seating area is not very big, however the disabled should have little problem with seating, and they are able to cater for groups of friends who wish to eat together. The menu is varied for most tastes and anybody should find something of interest on it. Being a soup lover I would highly recommend their delicious vegetarian soups which are of excellent quality served with plenty of crusty bread and butter or preferred spread. Breakfasts and lunches are their forte being generous and tasty. For those who like something sweet for afters or with their hot drinks would be delighted at the range of cakes, tarts, scones and loaf cakes available. They are delicious and varied. The staff are always friendly and they are very happy to be helpful and accommodating with requests.Hygiene standards are very high and the tables are well equipped with condiments.Parking is no problem with the car park behind the restaurant and the opening hours will suit most.In all this is a very good to get a good meal or snack when attending the very good market on Thursdays. If you are looking for something better than the rubbery 'food' Macdonalds or tasteless Subway and want good tasty food at sensible prices with comfortable seating then I would recommend this super eating house.

What a disappointment! After 2hrs cycling in chilly weather, I was looking forward to a nice plate of beans on toast BUT what I got was a long 20minute wait and cold beans. Cold food is inexcusable and the cafe was empty so no excuses that they were busy. I sent the food back, to then get half the portion of beans. It was easier to eat and leave than complain a second time. There’s a cafe next door that seemed full and so we won’t be back.

I have been going to The Coffee Tavern for over 25 years now, and it never fails. The staff are all local and lovely, the service friendly and the food good value. The bacon, Brie and cranberry baguettes are my guilty passion! This Tavern is a favourite Oundle haunt for all my family, it does breakfast, lunch, tea and cake and caters for everybody.

Had heard great reviews about breakfast here so decided to give it a go. Big selection on offer, and apart from 'big breakfast' all cost £6.75 and are along the lines of bacon, egg, tomato, toast and fried potatoes. Sausage, egg, mushroom, toast and fried potatoes. Bacon, beans, egg, toast and fried potatoes. Basically every combination included fried potato. As I don't eat potato I asked if it was possible to swap the potato for another item maybe beans. I was told I could drop the potato but would need to pay an additional £1 if I required an additional side!! Hence I won't be rushing back!

Went to the Coffee Tavern at the Oundle Christmas Fair today and couldn't believe how understaffed it was. I don't get what the manager is thinking. Hats off to the young girls who were doing a great job in the circumstances, but can't help thinking the manager must be in breach of some employment laws to have such young staff on their own in such busy circumstances. Well done to them.

My mum and I visited whilst attending the Oundle Christmas Fair yesterday. It was pretty busy but we found a seat straight away. There were a few tables that needed cleaning and it seemed they were struggling to keep up. The service we had from the staff was great. Very friendly and welcoming. Our drinks and food also arrived very quickly. My mum had a tea cake and said it was delicious. I had a bacon sandwich which was filled and very filling. The only downsides were the delays in clearing the tables and that because it was a mix of table service or ordering at the counter, there was quite a long wait to pay the bill whilst others ordered food in front of me. The gents toilet is outside in the garden and could do with some tlc. Overall good food and drink but I'd say more staff are needed, and maybe some tlc in some areas of the cafe.

We had a Cheese Omelet and Cottage Pie, both were very good, lots of tasty cheese in the Omelet which was soft and cooked just right. The cottage pie was topped with a sprinkling of cheese and served with vegetables and lovely crisp chips. This is good wholesome food, cooked well and served in good portion sizes.

My family eat here regularly and my parents from Bucks insist on lunch at the CT every time they come to visit. The food is excellent as is the service and the value for money. The ambience is great because it has a buzz about it without being ridiculously busy.

Lovely little coffee shop/cafe. The food is wholesome and tasty, it won't set your world alight nor will it let you down. Strong coffee, which is always a plus!

My wife and I thought it would be good to go out for Sunday breakfast so we choose the Coffee Tavern. Very clean inside but quite busy. I went to order at the "hatch" while my wife sat down. 2 coffees and croissants. After queuing for 15 minutes I placed the order thinking that it wasn't very difficult and it might arrive quickly. 20 minutes later we had still not received anything! After 25 mins I decided enough was enough and asked for a refund, which was forthcoming.

We go here regularly with our grandchild, the food is good wholesome stuff, plenty that is suitable for a child. Also good for adults a huge choice of beakfasts, some of the best home made cake around, and good lasagne, shepherds pie etc etc. definitely worth a visit

Dropped the car off to be cleaned, got a hair cut, now breakfast before shopping. The coffee tavern always has a good atmosphere the food is freshly cooked and delicious. My wife had a bacon omelet which comes with salad and chips and I had the cooked breakfast sausages, egg, bacon, beans, potatoes, mushrooms and toast washed down with a cup of tea. A perfect start to the day

Don't think this is a place for coffee only, it serves lovely, down-to-earth, British meals at a very reasonable price. Access is a little difficult for people with limited mobility because there are unavoidable steps down into the Tavern but that is one of the consequences of visiting a quaint place in the centre of an ancient town. The food is very homely, wholesome and of generous proportions. I can't think of anything to complain about.

It is such a lovely traditional eatery at the coffee tavern, living in Oundle all my life I have eaten there many many times and it is delicious, last visit was at lunch time and I had a jacket potato. It came with a fantastic side salad and very yummy home made coleslaw and the cheese was sublime. You could tell straight away that only the best produce is used there. As I work in Oundle I will be using the coffee tavern for many more years.

Absolutely loved my recent visit to the Coffee Tavern, everytime I go back the standard just as high as the first time I visited. The panini's are a definite favourite of mine with a portion of chips! And the ice cream milkshakes are unbeatable! I always sit upstairs, the Windows by the table are great for people watching with a pot of tea, and the general atmosphere is lovely, either to meet friends or to sit and do some work. Recently the cafe has been updated with new seats, giving it a really fresh feel. Everytime I go in I get the impression that the owners really care about and take pride in their business, and it shows with all of the happy customers! I'll definitely be returning soon!

We have been to this cafe a good number of times and i couldn’t recommend enough for the majority or the times we have been. However, we went this morning and the lady who was serving us (we have never seen her before) was very rude. My partner ordered a coffee and she brought over the wrong coffee, he politely asked if this could be fixed and she told him he was wrong and didn’t know about coffee (he is a fully trained barista) and then just rudely said ‘so what do u want instead then?’ all the other staff members we have met are very polite and friendly except the one we were greeted by today.

Nice little pub, was a bit busy for our first visit but luckily we had a table booked. Very first and friendly service at the bar. The price of food is a little expensive but definitely worth the price with the amount and presentation you get.
