We pass this occasionally on our walks. It was good to find it open today - we stopped for a hot drink on a drizzly morning. Very welcome - a friendly place. The micro pub and this cafe was up for sale recently, I think it's changed hands - still a great place to stop for a drink and a snack.

This little lock-side cafe is a gem! Beautiful location, all seating is outside but has a little veranda by the canal in a beautiful setting, so quaint and perfect for a gentle walk. Plus all food and drink is brilliantly priced to say where it is located.

Lovely situation for this little cafe, beside the lock and attracting walkers, cyclists, etc. Sadly, though, it is not open every day and you should check first (usually weekends and bank holidays). The usual fare, plus light lunches and tea, coffee and other hot and cold drinks. There's tables and seating in the "garden" beside the towpath. I don't think there's any indoor seating. Pleasant views, pleasant service, reasonably priced refreshments. Will return.

Right next to a canal and very dog friendly. No seats inside, all outside and the lady serves you through a hatch so no need to tie your dog up while you get a cuppa. Sells dog treats as well. Some tables are under cover and there are blankets there if you are cold. The lady that owns it is very friendly.

This is an ideal place to rest your feet and get refreshments on the towpath between Trent lock and Sawley Marina at the lock side between the River Trent and Sawley canal section. There is a large choice of coffees, tea and hot chocolate, cakes and biscuits. They also do bacon and sausage butties which are excellent. All food and drink is at great prices. There are nice tabled seating with views of the canal and lock. It is a busy place at a weekend with lots of boating activity. There are plenty of outdoor seating and a good place to lock your bikes. They also have dog biscuits and water available so good for all the family.

Always stop here when out riding by bike for a coffee and maybe cake or bacon sarnie. Good coffee and a nice chat whether freezing cold winters day or busy summer weekend.

A small little seating area overlooking the mechanical lock, away from the hustle and bustle of the main lock (15 minutes walk away). There is now a covered area too so a little respite from the British weather! A good selection of drinks, treats and snacks, and friendly service - all for a good price!

Located down by the canal and river junction lock. Outside terrace a real sun trap, even in March. Hot chocolate excellent, would like my cappuccino a bit stronger so would go for an extra shot next time. Not tried the cakes, yet.

A small outdoor cafe at the former lock keeper's cottage at Sawley, this offers a selection of drinks, cakes and snacks. The owner is lovely, very friendly and helpful and you can sit outside and watch boats go through the huge automatic locks. A great stop if you're walking along the towpath between Shardlow and Trent Lock, or if you're visiting Sawley. Highly recommended.

How annoying to find this place closed because of the weather! It was, during our 8 mile walk, sunny, rainy, drizzly and sunny again - and this place had closed "due to the weather" - so it missed the custom of 14 of us, at least!Won't bother trying to go there again I'm afraid - unreliable when advertised as open and closed because of a bit of rain. This is the British summer, after all!

Just to correct the above. the coffee kiosk is not at sawley marina as the address shows it is 10 mins walk down the tow path at Sawley Lock House.

Happened upon this little canal side gem when on a walk from Attenborough to Sawley Marina. Ordered peppermint Tea, Latte, scone and sausage roll the two bakery items being home made. The sausage roll was very nice and the scone that came with butter and jam and also cream (one of the nicest I have tasted). It is a little bit of a walk to get there being 10 minutes along the path from the Marina or about 30 mins walk along the river from Trent Lock, but it is worth it, they also have super views of the locks and countryside. Found out later that it has only just been opened, the lady who served us very friendly (think she was the owner), Oh and almost forgot half price refills on hot drinks which were reasonably well priced anyway.
