Popped in for a quick toasties. I had ham and cheese my wife had ham salad. 10 out of 10 for service and taste. Served by very friendly staff. Try them, you'll love them. Owners dog is very friendly too!

Had a mind blowing Reuben for brunch! The pastrami, sourkraut, mustard heaven for a sandwich came with a grillled sourdough bread and a perfect poached egg on top. It simply can’t get any better. Add smashing coffee to the equation and you know why this place is worth a trip.

This place is amazing. The coffee is the best I've had and I've tried a lot of places and love my coffee. The owner and the staff are so friendly. You must try it and you won't be disappointed.

Was staying at nearby Premier Inn but wanted something quick. Coffee was great as were croissants. Staff were very friendly, service quick and quirky interior inviting. Seemed popular with many regulars. I was just visiting but would go again. Cute dog.

Do you want a coffee that isn’t bitter like the usual high street coffee offerings, then try something local. This one in Church Street isn’t the smartest, is probably one of the smallest but has to be the friendliest.

Such a brilliant find for brunch - delicious food for all, meat eaters, veggie and vegan. Lots of muffins, avocado, pancakes, plus all the basics. Scarlette’s service for a fussy bunch was excellent l. Thoroughly recommended and very reasonable.

We were staying very close by and hapened to walk past this coffee shop and took a look at the reviews. We decided to pop in the next morning for breakfast and weren't disappointed. I had the vegetarian fully loaded which was great and everone else was very happy with their breakfast too. Service was great, coffee good. We went back the next morning for round 2.

We stopped in on our way to the Lanes, which is located nearby. The service we received was fantastic and the food was delicious. Highly recommend the big breakfast naan with halloumi, which had some really interesting flavours.

Loved the atmosphere, with friendly staff and clientele and a gorgeous resident dog. My mushrooms on sourdough toast with poached egg was simple but perfectly cooked and delicious (though I had instant envy of the blueberry pancakes delivered to another table) and the coffee was the best I've had in ages. Cakes looked amazing but I was too full! I loved the little touches—with toys on the windowsill and mismatched chairs, it felt like a comfortable spot for a chat with friends or to sit down with a coffee and a good book.

I love this place. Get my coffee from here most mornings, and the staff are always friendly. The coffee is excellent and it's a great place for a tasty, good value lunch too. It's obvious that the staff really care that customers have an enjoyable visit.

We stopped here as we were wandering past and looking for somewhere to have breakfast. This isn’t in a particularly nice part of town but make sure you stop in here for exceptional food. Our vegetarian breakfast muffins were A1 and the pancakes were a great hit! Super staff and lots of vegans and GF. Worth going a little off the beaten track to visit this little gem.

I was on my way to the train station coming from my hotel so I needed a proper breakfast before heading home. Checked Trip Advisor and found The Coffee Counter. It was clear for me to order the pan cakes which were then even upgraded with bacon. DELICIOUS!! Combined with a high quality coffee I was set for the reminder of my journey.

Went here looking for vegan options and meat options for breakfast. Honestly one of the best breakfast’s I have ever had! The staff were so lovely and the dog there was so friendly as well. Such a nice atmosphere. Highly recommend

Lovely relaxed place! Really warm service that makes you feel welcome. The food is amazing with Vegan and Vegetarian options equal to the meat options. Have really fallen in love with the place. Every time me and my team are in Brighton (our web designers are based there), we have breakfast, or lunch, or cakes in this superb cafe. The vibe is lovely: great music, nice people, superb food. The ruben sandwich (a triple of three halves), or the eggs benedict or their version of the full English, and then the cake - polenta and lemon, and so on. Just brilliant. And, of course, superb coffee too! This is what cafes should be!

Always a friendly welcome, lovely staff and great service. Owned by a really nice guy who works incredibly hard to offer something different to the usual Brighton 'white walls/communal wooden tables/too cool for school' style blandness.

The Coffee Counter has to be one of my favourite spots in Brighton. Quirky and friendly with great music, amazing toasted sandwiches (cheese and balsamic mushrooms a big fave of mine).and fantastic cakes (including gluten free).

Went for breakfast this morning after reading rave reviews. The waiting staff very friendly and pleasant despite being yelled at and verbally abused by the chef who was obviously having a bad day. Very long delays and my husbands food arrived about 15 minutes before mine. When mine arrived I gave most of the bacon to the dog because it was inedible. A real shame as my husband's breakfast was really good and the staff offered us another coffee while we waited, which was good. But the behaviour of the chef was deeply unpleasant.

Best breakfast I’ve ever had... if you’re in Brighton it’s the place to visit for the halloumi naan breakfast! Brilliant for vegans veggies and meat eaters. I cycled London to Brighton one morning just for this!!

Absolutely love this little gem of a cafe! Some of the best coffee in Brighton, a lovely quirky interior and really nice, friendly, chatty staff. And all at incredibly reasonable prices. I love their grilled cheeses, and have possibly developed a bit of a habit!

I visited Brighton with my family and came here for the morning coffee and something to eat. We had really nice food and staff were friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit.

We ate breakfast on a Friday morning. The counter waitress was welcoming, attentive and helpful. I loved the 80s mix tape! We both ordered "I-av-a-car-do", which is avocado paste on toast soldiers, great for dipping in the poached egg yolks. But beware, they come with chilli chutney, which was a bit fierce for me, but my friend loved it! He then ordered a 3-cheese toastie, which looked amazing and he said tasted even better than it looked!

Cappuccino not hot, place is grubby, and the owner rude. I didn’t have the great experience other reviewers did.

First time in Brighton and what a warm welcome. Excellent service, quirky warm cafe with a rustic feel and nice music. The food was affordable, fresh and delicious. I’m not vegan but had the vegan breakfast for £6 and was incredibly tasty and filling. Amazing coffee , fresh ground to order espresso and wonderful vegan friendly cakes. Thanks to the team for a wicked morning and looking after us! Will DEFO be returning when I come back to Brighton xxxx

I was recommended the coffee counter in the summer but only just managed to go. I’m quite set in my way with breakfast and get always think I won’t find anywhere better.

We are here for Sunday brunch and loved every dish. The menu is varied and inclusive for all as in veggies, vegans and meataholics!

Enjoyed the sandwiches and vegan cakes were so good! Not vegan myself but have no aversion to plantbased foods and wholeheartedly recommend the food here. Consistently friendly service and non-pretentious fare. Will be back for sure!

I went here for lunch today and found their vegan bagel burger amazing. They also do a vegan breakfast, vegan toasties and good coffee too. Also gave me a free brownie because my burger was a little delayed. Such nice staff with fantastic service.

We have been here a couple of times at night time when it becomes Iceberger (which is awesome) but this was the first time we visited in the day.

Stumbled across this little coffee shop when looking for somewhere else to eat and decided to give it a try when I saw the veggie & vegan menu, I asked for advise as the sandwich choices were different to those usually on offer and was told the smoked Tofu with vegan cheese & pickles was a good pick. To be fair I wasn't sure but went with it and I am so glad I did as it was simply the best, most flavoursome sandwich I have EVER eaten. I will be going back as soon as I am back in Brighton.

This is a lovely spot to relax and tuck into the wonderful menu options. Very light and always a lovely atmosphere. I'm not a vegan myself but they are well catered for. For meat eaters, The Reueben is an absolute must!

Usually coffee shops supply a boring array of dry sandwiches and the odd cake. This isn't that. Amazing cooked food, breakfasts sandwiches you name it. All using fine local ingredients and served at an affordable price 5 stars.

Have been a regular at the Coffee Counter for three years since its original location in Vine St. Hayden and his team are super friendly and always find the time to greet each customer, even if busy.

This is a cafe that treats sandwiches with the true respect they deserve. They have an abundance of vegan and veggie options and everything I've eaten there has been spot on.

I have frequented many coffee establishments in brighton since moving here 6 months ago.

From the moment we walked in, until the moment we left, the staff were attentive, engaging, friendly and happy. The food was amazing (veggie breakfast and two eggs benedict) and the coffees were perfect. Even more, the playlist coming through the speakers was just right for a Saturday lunchtime, and wasn't too loud or quiet - just right to hum along to (and you'd want to for nearly every song!). If you want a chilled place to go and have a great coffee and bite to eat then go and support this local venture - cannot rate it highly enough! Basically, I want it to still be there when I next visit Brighton!

A corner eatery that's small but very friendly ~ the food is easily the best we have had in Brighton so far. We have been here every morning so far, 6 days, and will be back!

I love this place. It's a big hearted gem out of the main drag of the North Laines, not that far from the station. It's Haden's place and he knows what he is about...from brilliant creative and great value breakfasts, to ACE coffee delivered by Martina and Billy. It's leaning back in time with the great signature playlists while firmly looking forward with a very strong offer on vegetarian and vegan creations. It's relaxed, down to earth but with an ethos. If you can find it, enjoy it!

Made a beeline for this place after family found them on a visit 2 years ago before they moved to current location. Flat whites were pretty good and served as an 8oz instead of only 6oz that most cafes seem to do, if you like a stronger coffee I suggest an extra shot. Although we didn't eat here, the menu sounded delicious and very good value with half size servings on most items. The toasted sandwiches smelt amazing and were massive. Very very good chance of a return visit for lunch, and a vegan cake.

Called in on way to North Lanes looking a cake and coffee. Relaxed, laid back vibe with great home made cakes and excellent coffee. Could have stayed all morning. Easily better than far more pricey joints.

Nice chilled place that makes some of the best coffee in brighton. Great range of veggie and vegan toasties (as well as some meat ones) and breakfast. They also have a fun little resident dog to keep you entertained.

I had a toastie called the Bronx. It was a bit like a Reuben, but they also do a Reuben which is slightly different. But the toastie was amazing. The coffee was good too.

Great little location with good vibes. The reuben sarnies are some of the best in town. This still is a great independent shop doing good food and coffee so always worth a visit.

I work in central Brighton and my Friday morning treat on my way to work is a take away coffee (sad, but true!) The Coffee Counter is hands down the nicest coffee I have tasted in Brighton and the staff are super friendly.

We visited yesterday for breakfast as was staying in the Premier Inn round the corner. From the moment we arrived we received a warm welcome and when the food arrived it looked great and tasted even better. In fact I can say it was the best breakfast ever from the yummy sausages, perfect poached eggs all of it was brilliant. Both of us really loved it. So go and visit if your in Brighton you will not be disappointed.

We went for coffee which was lovely but noticed that they had a large selection of vegetarian and vegan toasties for lunch which looked good so popped back later in the day. We were not disappointed. The vegetarian and vegan options we chose (there were four of us) were delicious. Those of us who chose toasties with Halloumi in were in for a treat. There was so much of it in each of the fillings and such imaginative combination of ingredients. We enjoyed lunch so much we popped back for breakfast on another day and were not disappointed. Just as good as lunch. Would highly recommend this place.

I love this littel coffee shop!! The staff are incredibly friendly and look like they enjoy their jobs!! the coffee is delicious! and then have an absolutely amazing lunch menu!! its a cosy little hidaway for a quick break or a delicious lunch!!

Came from Italy to Brighton for holiday, here I have drunk the best espresso ever in England, perfectly served, with a great aroma, and an excellent taste.

Me and my girlfriend recently visited the coffee counter for breakfast. It was the nicest breakfast we have had in a long time. She had the eggs bennidict with a few added extras which the staff were only happy to add on for us. She now is refusing to have eggs anywhere else! I had the breakfast naan which was so nice that I now look at life as before or after the breakfast naan. Thanks for a lovely morning Hayden and the team will be back soon!

The place is small and full of atmosphere. If you want a decent coffee and a nice toastie at a good price then this place is for you. No toilet (I think).

I started working down the Lanes this year at a nearby studio and been trying to eat at different places as often as I can to scope on the flavours of Brighton. I feel lucky to have found this lovely cafe so close as i now live off there toasties almost every day along with their flat white's which are incredibly tasty. Really friendly staff and the food always is made using decent ingredients sourced from local venders. the inside is really nice and the interior design is on point. I would have to say the best thing I have had there is there Megs Benedict (halloumi on bread with hollandaise sauce) - definitely worth stopping by their when your in the Lanes.

This is a lovely little cafe in the Laines, serving good coffee and amazing food - my friend and I are big foodies and hard to impress, but the 2 toasties we tried were the best we have ever had! I highly recommend the Reuben and the Tandoori Chicken, and will be back to try the rest of the menu very soon!

Went there with my husband for the first time. The place was clean , well done up and above all very calm . We liked it as we were able to relax and enjoy our coffee. This place has the best coffe in Leicester. The staff are very friendly and professionals. We would definitely recommend it and we will be visiting this place again.

An absolute little gem of a café tucked around a backstreet in the North Laine area of Brighton. The food and atmosphere is great and the chef makes some of the best sandwiches around. Can't recommend it enough.

The best coffee I had in a very long time! The location is excellent for a quiet morning coffee, and they have the most wonderful and lovely staff. Also a great place for a tasty breakfast.

Amazing food, amazing coffee! The actual cafe is small so seats are limited but it is definitely worth waiting for (don't leave just wait for a table!), just makes it that extra bit special!

Lovely relaxed place in a quiet road in the centre. I had the Peppered Fool for breakfast (toasted bread with grilled peppers, pastrami, sauerkraut and scrambled egg) and it was so damn tasty I nearly cried.

The most wonderful staff, top top sandwiches and luscious coffee to cure any hangover! The BEST kind of neighbours to have!

The staff are super friendly and the coffee and cakes are amazing! Always a good coffee here - hot and the flavour is strong and smooth. I can heartily recommend the Chocolate Brownie - next visit will be trying the breakfast!

Check out their toasties selections, they have quite a few surprise combination (at least for me, I find it quite uncommon to see elsewhere). I had their Big Dog, which was two sausages with onion chutney, fried onions, mustard. My friend had their Reuben, it is huge and rich. It was full with meat and it came with sauerkraut, which makes it feels less oily.

Have known about this place for a while now but only really visited the amazing shop attached to it where I always see stuff I want to buy for my pad. Mothering Sunday was my first visit to the cafe to try their brunch, and it was so good I'll be adopting it as a favourite local place for many return brunches.

This place has a small dining area and you can see the staff as they cook behind the counter They can't accept card payments FYI. The staff were friendly and jovial to customers but the older guy was constantly picking on his colleague, a younger girl, I'll get back to that. Had the bacon, brie and cranberry toastie, goats cheese and chutney toastie, a latte and an Americano which cost £15.00. The food was delicious, took 20 minutes to arrive but it was well worth the wait, tasty, warm and fresh. The coffee was also fantastic Worth every penny..Other customers had to wait for their food, some plates arrived at different times so 2 tables of customers had to sit and watch their companions eat. I understand two busy staff working in a small environment serving 10 people food and coffee can be stressful. The older fella was micro managing every little thing the girl was doing. He was nothing but condescending and rude to her during our 45 minute stay. She couldn't do anything right in his eyes and he broadcast it across the room. We felt uncomfortable throughout, she didn't stand up for herself once but continued to smile at customers as she served them. As we were leaving he lost his patience with her again and asked her to leave the kitchen and go outside, as we walked away we turned back and saw her sitting on a chair outside crying then she put her head in her hands.

I live just around the corner from the Coffee Counter. The coffee is amazing and the staff and ambiance is really cool. The do some amazing toasted sandwiches. Worth seeking out. I' very lucky to be so close by.

There are not too many places in Brighton where you can enjoy two amazingly tasty veggie hot dogs (with all the trimmings...) plus two quality cappuccinos for a tenner AND get to enjoy them in such a funky space. We absolutely love this place and have been regular visitors since. Service is super-friendly and you get to watch your food being prepared too. The breakfasts looked wonderfully tasty and really fantastic value for money. It's a tiny place just off the North Laines but we'll worth seeking out for a late breakfast or relaxed lunch. Go and enjoy!

Super friendly and welcoming staff! Delicious breakfasts and one of my favourite Chai Lattes around! The interior is very cosy and atmospheric - would highly recommend.

I have been a regular at this place for a few months now. I am not a coffee drinker but the sandwiches are absolutely amazing especially the Rueban. The staff behind the coffee counter are friendly and fun always making you feel welcome which especially refreshing for Brighton. Whilst small the place has a cool bohemian atmosphere without the aloof hipster pretentiousness you can find in many places in the city. Unfortunately the sandwiches do come on chopping boards. #wewantplates

Friendly guys, nice coffee and surprisingly tasty food. The selling factor is that this is the most Brightonian place in Brighton to have a coffee - you just need to give it a go to see what I mean! I'd have pushed to 5 stars if it hadn't taken me over 20 minutes to get my order on more than one occasion.
