Cut Your Wolf Loose in Brighton and Hove

As a long time whisky drinker and having done a few whisky tasting, this is easily the best whisky tasting experience I have ever done. We got to try a variety of rare and delicious whisky, backed by detailed knowledge and stories from the host. We will definitely be coming back

An impressive whiskey outlet, with a very good selection. You can also sit down to enjoy a better glass of Whisky. Pleasant service with good service and a lot of knowledge.

This is one of the best whisky places I have ever been to. I am sorry that this review is not short but it is worth it. Then when you go you will see what I said stacks high. 1. The Dranks.... This place is run by a few awesome people who care about what things taste like so at the bar they have a LOT of open bottles of various colours, shapes, sizes, casks, strengths.... and a lot more. They have Chichibu, Stagg, single cask stuff i have never even seen anywhere else.... and also they do their own bottlings. 2. the Humans Hugo, Seb, Paul and Fergus are randomly there on random days and they know their stuff. The service from these guys and the way they are is as if you had known em for ages. You feel sad when you leave the place as if you were leaving a friends house and wanted to turn around back and see em the next day. Reality is most of us have work to do and so on.... lives to live and all that. Shame. I would work from this place if i could with laptop and drams. 3. the bar and place itself. The bar is not far from Brighton station. almost round the corner really. so you can just get here from London quickly or even if not quick... worth the mild pilgrimage. It is a cool as hell place. Upstairs. Downstairs. Walls with graffiti and scribblings that make you laugh with enough space to have mates as a gathering, cool lighting, cabinets that are lit with whisky. 4. The Doolars The prices here are spectacular. Stagg is at £13 and in London you need to pay £25 or more. The drams are at reasonable prices for pretty much everything. Even the rare stuff. When i am there i do not order more than one even if it is rare out of courtesy for other people since whisky is for drinking and should be drunken and enjoyed. This is a gem of a bar and for all the tourists out there... it is an essential visit since they have great drinks, collaborate with local artists for bottle releases, have cool merch to grab when you're there like t-shirts or other things (take a bottle back away to your own country cos you ain't gonna find em there for sure) and you will think about this place for a long time, if not maybe eternity, from a visit to the establishment. I can only really say, thanks for making the effort to look after people who want to drink something better, this lifetime around.

Gorgeous cocktails. Super helpful and sweet server - we had 3 cocktails, reasonably priced and they gave great suggestions across the menu, and made us feel so comfortable. Couldn’t recommend more highly - wish we could have stayed all night and not ran for our train! (Great board game selection, too!)

Fantastic little place, knowledgeable staff and excellent selections of whiskey

A beer and whisky lovers dream in the heart of Brighton. Perfect place to stop by after browsing local shops and hot spots. A small walled patio outside, floor to ceiling wall displays of whiskies, with accommodating and friendly servers. Wide range of interesting and refreshing drinks on offer.

Just going to slap another five-star review on the pile. Fergus and Hugo were great hosts for this whisky nerd and served me some really interesting drams that I wouldn't normally pick. This is a best-in-class modern whisky bar and a must visit for anyone in Brighton who wants to get the drams in.

Went there for a whisky tasting and mixing session with a stag group, Learned alot about the history of scotch and where the flavour characteristics come from. The scotch blending challenge was great, and we even had a couple of pallatable creations come out of it! Cheers guys!

Popped in for a couple tonight, had a great chat with the friendly chap working the bar and was recommended two delicious bourbons! Astounding selection on offer, you've gained a new regular!

Stopped in for cocktails. We hadn't realised until we got inside that it was a whisky bar. Even though not all of us were whiskey drinkers, the bartender was able to suggest cocktails that worked for all of us. Would very much recommend drinking here, even if you're not a particularly big fan of whiskey... maybe you'll find yourself converted.

We go every time we visit Brighton, especially easy as it’s just down the road from the station. Staff are always super welcoming, answer any questions and give great recommendations. Cocktails are all spot on.

It has become my favorite place in Brighton. There are just so many whisky to try, like a whisky museum! Sometimes I went there for 'afternoon whisky tea', or after-dinner digest drinks, or a proper tasting organized by a distillery. The staffs are very knowledgeable, and the vibe is so relaxing.

The best whisky & bourbon selection on the south coast! 300 open bottles from all around the world, served by friendly and knowledgeable staff inside a truly fantastical space. It’s a hidden gem in plain sight, CYWL is nestled in the heart of Brightons famous North Laine district and easily missed, but don’t miss it because it’s a great experience every time. For whisky lovers it’s Christmas every day with every bottle on sale in the shop, also served in drams so you can try before you buy which is great when a rare single malt can cost 1000’s! For whisky novices it’s also Christmas, as the excellent staff will guide you through the maze of choice with great knowledge of provenance, history and the intricate flavour profiles of all their whiskies & bourbons. And the cocktails are off the scale, with whisky being the main event. Craft beers are also curated to accompany the dram selection which I found very helpful to have a crisp IPA as a low ABV interlude in my whisky journey! Cut Your Wolf Loose is a tiny, intimate space, jam packed with insane creativity and the best whiskies on the planet. Go and let them whisk you away from the drab & ordinary into a world of colour and joy. It’s like Willy Wonka on acid!

Unbelievably cool whisky bar! Great atmosphere, quirky decor, staff who are so friendly and knowledgeable they rapidly feel like friends. Great whisky cocktails for those who don't love the neat amber stuff, and a dazzling range of the amber stuff, from traditional to VERY modern. This is the opposite of a mahogany and leather whisky bar: when we're next in Brighton we will be back with bells on!

If you're in Brighton, interested in whisky, and don't check out CYWL, you're doing yourself a huge disservice... Their whisky collection is second to none, their cocktail menu is excellent, and the staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgable (shoutout to Hugo!). I can't wait to go back for a sampling session asap!

Fantastic place to learn whisky, and my go to recommendation in Brighton for a bar.

What an amazing place! Walls full of every whisky you can imagine. I went for a tasting session and was blown away by the variety that was stocked. The knowledge of the person running the place was just fantastic.

Hidden little place in the lanes which is an absolute gem of a find. The guys in here make you feel welcome as soon as you come through the door and don't over sell their whisky knowledge. Very friendly atmosphere and not trying to be something special. Could not recommend more. This is the whisky bar Brighton has packed for a long long time.

What can I say, a hidden gem in Brighton. Wall to wall of whisky from a multitude of distilleries and bottlers (including this rare William Larue Weller!). Cost wise it varies from £4 dram to £38 drams (a birthday treat). My girlfriend doesn't like whisky so they made her a soft whisky cocktail but they also had some beers, to wash the whisky down. Played with a couple of their boardgames including exploding kittens! To finish I had an Ardnamurchan (£6) and was given pens to leave our mark on their walls. YES, they let you write on the walls, so we left the obligatory "we were here 7/9/22. I would highly recommend this place and makes a nice change from your regular haunt.

I'm not a huge fan of whisky but organised a whiskey tasting for a stag do and it was so good! They were so knowledgeable and passionate that they made it into a real experience. The whisky's were great and they were so flexible on how many drams and what whiskeys you tried along side making a banging Irish coffee cocktail

This has to be the best place in Brighton for Whisky lovers! Super chill and comfy ambiance with an amazing selection of whiskies and bourbons, perfect to accompany a nice conversation. I visited the place twice and would recommend it to anyone. Vivian definitely made our evenings extra special, as she is extremely knowledgeable and will guide you and help you choose from a dizzying collection so you can have the best experience. Looking forward to visiting again!

This place is amazing. The woman working there really knows her stuff, and is great at asking the right questions to find out which whisky you'd like. I had 3 completely different shots that I never would have thought of trying, but was really glad she recommended them. If you want to splash out on a rare one you can, or if you just want a fairly priced one you can do that. 10/10 :)

What a place! Walls and walls of glowing whisky. Not just your regular run-of-the-mill whiskies, this place has a truly amazing collection. As a whisky novice, the team are always super helpful in recommending new drams to try and there's always a lovely crowd of people there. Highly recommend!

Been here a few times and it's brilliant. The staff are fantastic and the knowledge and passion makes the experience one of the best in Brighton. I believe the girl working was called Vivian and she made out evening truly special. A huge selection of whisky to suit every budget. I just wish the council would extend the license a little! Well done everyone involved in this fantastic venue.

Introduced a friend to the place and he absolutely loved it! Zack was lovely, welcoming and managed to brighten up a grey Thursday. Had an amazing old fashioned and couldn't resist ordering a second. Can't wait to visit again and try out more of the huge selection!

Came here with my Dad last night as a present so he could try some unique whiskeys he had never tried before. Very chilled out atmosphere, staff were really nice and knowledgably and took time to pick out my Dad some different whiskeys to taste, plus made me some top notch cocktails :) Defo worth a visit and I will be coming back again.

I don't think I've ever felt instantly connected to a bar, it's staff and the ethos of any establishment as I have to this one. Beautiful staff, beautiful whisky, beautiful place. I couldn't recommend it more and I can't wait to go back.

Popped in after hearing good things and it exceeded my expectations. There’s a really nice selection of whiskey (I focused on bourbon but they had a lot of scotch and world whiskies as well). Staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. Prices were great too. I’d highly recommend.

We popped in when my boyfriend found out about this place. Really neat little place in Brighton with lots of selection for different types of whiskeys (though I am not an expert). Really friendly staff who knew their stuff. They made me a very nice whiskey cocktail to enjoy whilst the others drank their whiskeys so I wasn’t left out. The cocktail was really great and everyone was super friendly.
