Disgusting prices at Bramcote Lane, Wollaton! £3 for small mushy peas is same price as Goose Fair & the portions are smaller. They even charged £1.50 for mayo. They cheated us out of £10 on our gift voucher, too. Never going again.

Went for my husband's birthday, with our daughters - food was good, although monk fish portion was very small for the price. As a birthday celebration we took a cake with us. We were not allowed to light the candle, a standard birthday cake candle..... 1 candle.... as it would set off the fire alarm. Couldn't believe my ears!!!! Sadly our caterpillar cake had to remain in its box until we got home as we weren't allowed to eat it either. Think I'd go elsewhere if you want a bit of a Tuesday night birthday celebration.

Not been here for a while. The menu has changed. No boards up for out at sea. No catch of the day. No choice of fish to choose apart from the set menu. No fresh fish to buy. No notices of where the fish was caught, our by what boat. No fish soup in a mug, made from the fish or shell fish of the day. Loved that .was a meal In it self, always tasted different every time you had it. Think you could have gone a little bit to commercial and lost sight of your great beginnings. Food was great as usual, but lacking the ambience of the old days. We are a £ 175 plus customer. Please go back to what made you great.

You can tell this place is packed often. Food is amazing and fresh. Staff are friendly and it's a nice place to sit and eat great fish and chips.

I went to Wollaton at 4.30 Tuesday. Ordered Haddock and chips. The staff were amiable no problem but the food was terrible. Haddock soggy and small,chips were unappetising and looked like they had been fried twice. For over £12 I won't be coming again. You used to be so good!!!

This place used to be exceptional, but it's sadly on a decline. While the food remains delicious, the portions have noticeably shrunk. The real disappointment, however, is the service. The atmosphere that once made this spot so inviting has faded, and the staff now seem unmotivated, leading to sub-par service. It's a shame to witness a once vibrant and welcoming establishment lose its charm.

Now much improved from my last review - but I did stay away for around 3 years. Today the service was fast and ‘can do’, The fish was fresh with that unique ‘seaside’ taste (I know we are in Nottingham). Much better whole chips (not bits) and cooked to the light golden shade that I prefer. Peas and bread and butter both spot on too. And all for £10 on the daily special (bread is extra). Much more like the great concept that the Cod’s Scallops was originally. Well done and thank you.

After a not so chilled out after at Woolaton park where my two terrors 6 and 3 ran me ragged in the park and fun faire. I needed to feed my brood and they wanted a chippy. So I found one just 5 mins down the road we can actually sit in. It's easily spottable from the road and there was loads of parking. We walked in at about 4.30 and we were greeted with loads of friendly smiles. The menu has am amazing choice for a chippy loads of choices of fresh caught fish and loads of things you don't see in your average chippy. The kids meals we £8 each but it was worth every penny it came with a big activity pack and the portion sizes were huge. I tried one of the kebab with were served wrapped in warm naan and loads of salad and a portion of chips on the sides. I also tried a portion of there battered black pudding which could the nicest battered thing I've every tasted and I've lived in Scotland so have tried a fair few things. The only improvement I'd make is that they should have a branch in Worcester

Family meal Saturday evening. Seated promptly. Ordered starters of scallops calamari and chicken bites. We were told that they only had 2 scallops left and we would get a discount because of thus. The starters arrived the calamari arrived disappointed was very small bits of squid and loads of batter. Chicken bites first my boy were very hot and spicy which he couldn't ear. Drinks ordered no cider left. A jug of iced water we received 3 glasses of water no ice or jug. Mains ordered monk fish baked and a haddock. Previously when ordering monk fish it was one decent piece this time we had little goujon bits. Overall we shall not be recommending or returning feel conned to be fair. The food has definitely gone down hill. Prices have gone up but portions have shrunk. Come on Jon sort it out , it used to be our favourite eat out.

Ordered the lobster and chips, waste of money the lobster was tasteless and I'm marks and Spencer you buy 2 of these for 8 pound so a rip off 20 for lobster and chips , no sauce , no lemon I would day very poor and wouldn't go again

A big thank you for all the hard work this branch put into delivering fish and chips more my mum's funeral, it was a bit ask. Everyone from start to finish gave great customer service, everything was delivered on time and piping hot. All guests really appreciated it. Mum loved fish and chips and we visited quite often. It was even delivered with salt and vinegar, what more could you ask for.

The food was delicious as you'd want for Cod Scallops. But what really made it a nice experience was the staff. They were all really helpful and accommodating for me and my family. Some of the best customer service I have experienced.

Lovely staff, clean and tidy. The chips are really tasty. My only issues is with a lack of GF products, I can't eat 98% of the menu. But the staff seem very clued up on allergens and cross-contamination, which is really reassuring. Prices are a little high in my opinion.

Dreadfully greasy haddock, sodden with grease, the fish was small for a supposedly “Large Haddock, it was a small medium at best. Lacked flavour totally bland. Chips very average with lots of hard little pieces. No nice taste of dripping on the food just oiliness. Curry sauce at £1.70 for a “small” tub was ok, nothing special, expensive for just an average curry sauce. Mushy pease dry flavourless and not worth £1.70 for a small tub For £28.80! This felt like a rip off Most got thrown to the birds, sorry birds! So very sad that this once lovely place seems to be trading on it past good name. Maybe we got an off day but will not be back to find out as it made us both feel quite queasy. Not nice to review this so harshly but cannot pretend it was good when it was so disappointingly poor. Sad because we were really looking forward to a tasty meal.

Amazing. Deserves all the compliments. Just make sure whether you are eating in or take away - if you are not asked by a staff - at the time of ordering, to avoid an awkward moment. It's not a big deal, but it may cause an awkward moment once you sit, but realise there is a different menu for eating in and taking away. Other than that thumbs up, well done.

The Cod's Scallops is the one chip shop I will travel to get to. The menu is great and even if you only get the mini fish and chips it's worth the journey. The food is all cooked in beef dripping and reminds me of the chippys I remember as a kid. If you like them, don't forget to ask for batter bits! I know its not good for you but OMG amazing. The staff are really nice and even in these times are coping with the orders. Just order online with them, its really easy, and turn up. Thet do have more than one shop so check out their locations around Nottingham. Highly recommended 👌 *****

Really disappointing takeout. Ordered the fish taco and it was so small, it was a wrap with a bit of fish and salad I could have done myself for £2! Similarly the Tempura prawns got 3 small ones for £8.50. Definitely won’t be ordering again from there. Taste was ok but nothing exceptional for the price.

Well done, The Cod's Scallops at Bramcote we had the 'Lunchtime Special' fish, chips and mushy peas. It was as amazing as we have previously found it to be. Crunchy batter on the succulent fish, great chips and wow, the mushy peas really complimented the meal. They are by far the best 👌 in the area and beyond. All accompanied by a mug of proper tea. Great yet again. The only niggle is there's not much room to move to and from and into your allocated table. You are sssooo popular you need bigger premises. Thank you.

I visited today as I was in the area and wanted a treat. I had a large haddock, mushy peas. bread and butter and coffee which were all sublime but the chips were so disappointing they were no where near as good as I remember. I suspect they were infact ( Horror of horrors ) oven chips!!! I can understand the need for all of us to eat healthier these days but this is a chippy which built it's reputation on deep fried moorish , golden pieces of heaven and not the skinny dry offerings that were served up to me today ! What's it all about? The service and atmosphere was as good as ever but lordy I can't gey used to these chips!

This place has really gone down hill !!! The fish & chips was not up to “Cod’s Scallops” standard. Ordered a takeaway, got home to rock hard chips & a fish which was not even eatable. There was so much salt on my meal that I binned it. I’m sure they put the salt on like it’s vinegar ! When I walked in to collect it I had to get some one’s attention to serve me. (Staff on there Moblie phone) so not busy at all as I was the only customer at the till. I don’t recommend this place to anyone. Unfortunately I will not be returning!!!

ordered from here many times and never had a problem, but tonight the food was only just warm when received, the batter on fish was really soggy/not cooked enough chips were not cooked to the normal high standard, definitely not the high standards they normally reach!

We used to be here many years ago ! It was fair before , but now ABSOLUTELY disgusting!!! We went to eat seafood, it was only chips and frozen small pieces of something that had been fried in an old oil . Can’t explain how horrible was !👎🏻

Lovely food and service Popped in to here for a bite to eat today. Was very clean and cosy. Served by a lovely young chap who was friendly and very polite. Table service was prompt. Good was piping hot and fresh. Had fish and chips with a pot of delicious curry sauce. A little bit pricy at £29 for 2 servings and a couple of drinks but do you know what, when food and service is good I really don’t mind paying a bit more. The chap that served us (he had glasses on) is a little gem and what ever you are paying him hourly wise he needs a pay rise. He was polite to every single customer who came in. Consistent. Well done guys and thanks for a cracking fish and chip dinner 😄

The food was on time but not from when it first stated which was 1:35 -1:55 it then proceeded to go up to 2:15 Food was cold and left a horrible thick grease layer around the mouth as we was eating it and the squid tasted like it hadn't been cleaned properly....its a lot of money to be sent inadequate quality

We have ordered Fish and Chips at The Cod's Scallops on a number of occasions. Yesterday 15.12.23 at circa 13.30), when we arrived it wasn't very busy, the young woman behind the counter completely ignored us, she continued to fiddle with the till roll before asking for our order (in a very brusque manner), as we were ordering she walked away! Her arrogance and bad attitude were unfathomable. The order was eventually placed and we waited an age. We noted that someone has a loyalty card stamped. Previous to this we were not even made aware that there was a loyalty card and as our orders are always over £15, it would have been nice to know about the loyalty card. When the order arrived, we took it home, most of it was cold, we did ask for salt and vinegar on both meals and neither had vinegar and there was salt on the lid of the curry sauce only; the lid of the sauce pot was the last thing that needed seasoning! The majority of the chips were burnt, the curry sauce thick and the fish was tasteless. When we next decide to treat ourselves to Fish and Chips we will NOT be going to the Cod's Scallops.

Chips delivered by Deliveroo this afternoon, was stale and hard. Could not eat them. Waste of time/money!

Popped in here for a quick meal with our 1 year old and got a table easy enough at 530 on a Saturday. The booths are really cosy and there was lots of room for our daughter to play around. We ordered her the kid’s fish and chips and it was huge! Could easily have fed an adult so for £8 which included a drink, ice cream and activity kit it was fab value. I am a vegetarian so be aware nothing fried in batter is veggie as they use beef dripping. I did have the cheese and onion pie and it was absolutely delicious with mushy peas and potato salad which I personally wasn’t a fan of. But hubby loved his fish taco and chips. Seems to be popular for older clientele which I thought was lovely. We aren’t local anymore but it was nice to pop in again.

Okay so unfortunately this was incredibly disappointing meal. Having eaten here numerous times in my previous time in Nottingham pre covid I was excited to get back and stuck in again. However when the food arrived I was presented with the most pitiful piece of cod I have ever seen. Fine it was cooked pretty well but this did not ofset the value lost in its size and the flavour was good but not beyond reckoning as it would have needed to be to justify itself at that size and price. It was thinner than paper and as short as my trump hands. Frankly I would have just been okay with it had it been a mini cod. But for a 14 quid piece of fish it was embarrassing. I will not be ordering again, despite the overall quality being satisfactory for that price I expect. Much MUCH better. Please see photos for reference.

There aren't many tables, so we deliberately turned up early to avoid disappointment. I'm glad we did, there were people queuing by 12:30. £10 each for the lunch special - Mini Cod, chips, peas, tartare sauce, and a coffee. Couldn't fault the food or the service.

Paid £20 for a fish and chips with some gravy sauce you would think you buying gold. It's the most expensive fish and chips I have ever come across. It's too expensive won't be buying from there again It's daylight robbery. I am going back to George's their fish and chips is better and cheaper plus they have a good variety of affordable meal deals.

Was over an hour late, called and they said although they had the details and to Cook at 6.10 for 6.30, it was just eats fault that at 7.15 they hadn’t started cooking

In the area working and came across this place. I ordered chips, sausage x 2 small as no jumbo, peas and a can of coke ...... £10.70 Well by far the worst chips I have ever had. Small bitty tooth breakers with no taste. Sausages dry and so were the mushy peas. Didn't even finish. The bin gobbled them up. The only positive was the overpriced cold can of coke. The fryer may have had a bad day. Massively overpriced and poor quality.

Food was really nice. Ate every morsel. Two adults and two children. Two large cod and chips, childs cod and chips, childs sausage and chips with mushy peas times 4. All the food was tasty. Most importantly the kids ate it all. It was quiet in restaurant. Service was Ok just a tad slow. Grandchildren wanted (but did not need) the sundae dessert of ice cream etc. That was £6.50 each. The cost was a bit of a shock. The meals plus 3 orange drinks and a glass of water. Total price for the four of us was £84.50 Crikey. Granddaughter said " see grandma I told you we should have gone to McDonalds" !!

Just average. It was busy so a long wait which is understandable but I've had better fish and chips.

Nice but very small portions for the price

I’ve been using the Cods Scallops for years. Initially the Bramcote outlet, more recently and today the Mansfield Road outlet. Having found a table I placed my order with an operative who wasn’t the most knowledgeable or confident. I watched as the large takeaway queue disappeared and indoor customers who had arrived after me had their orders taken and their food served. Eventually I gave up and asked to speak with a manager only to be told there wasn’t one on duty. I cancelled my order and attempted to pay for my cup of tea. A surly young woman simply said “ don’t worry about it” but made no attempt to apologise. I won’t be back - appalling service and even worse customer care!!

Very expensive for what you get £30 for 2 x fish and chips. £18 on the North East Coast bigger portion and better quality.

Winner of Best fish and chips in UK Second time have won this. Fish and chip shop really nice chips and a right collection of fish you can pick and he will cook for you as you wait. It's a bit costly but worth it. Chips done in beef dripping and God you can tell it's great really nice. Always hot as cook as you wait so you never get cold old chips standing. Very good place to eat. Can eat in a few tables. Can wait up to 30 mins some times ie Friday for a start. Parking is ok most of the time as it's off road shopping.
