Calverton Fish Bar in Nottingham

Downgrading my review from a 5 to a 1. This pains me a bit because it's really good food but they are constantly forgetting items in my order and they also recently stopped taking card payments so it's no longer convenient. I mean I'm ordering a battered sausage and chips and when I get home and open the bag it's just chips. 50% of my order missing and this has happened multiple times

I ordered a small fish with chips and peas. Whilst the fish was freshly prepared it was very under cooked and jelly like. I wouldn’t recommend.

A first class Fish Bar, immaculately clean, the food was very good, fish was moist and flaky, chips were golden brown and the peas were spot on, service was very good, I highly recommend Calverton Fish Bar.

Went here to get chips and a fishcake.the chips were aneamic and the fishcake was very dry and cold.the chips cost £3and the fishcake £1.70.and you don’t get a good portion for the price either.I normally use the one in the precinct it’s much better and it’s cheaper too.I won’t be using this one anymore,I would rather travel if mine is closed.

Food is good when they have it tryed 3 weeks on the trot to get steak pies and they had wouldn’t mind but it was only 5pm told cook fresh daily ,even rung in advance there not getting the message to have more available but when they have it it’s great But if u want choice when u want it go village fish bar in the square

Really nice chipshop. There's good seating inside if you want to eat in. Everything was freshly cooked the day we went and was very tasty.

Popped in after dropping rubbish off at the tip. The shop is so clean that you could eat off the floor, the toilets spotless. I bought the lunchtime special, fish, chips and peas, to take away and thoroughly enjoyed my dinner. The fish was cooked to perfection, the batter crispy and beautifully cooked chips accompanied with peas. And the guy knows how to put on salt and vinegar. By that I mean lots and lots, thank you .

If you are in Calverton or even passing by, call in to this fish bar, they offer take away or.sit in. The staff are amazing and the food cooked fresh and is very tatsy and piping hot. Large selection from Cod, haddock, pies and all the chippy faves, or if you fancy have a kebab. I had cod chips and mushy peas (ofcourse lol) and it was gorgeous crispy batter not fatty or greasy at all. Highly recommend. The restaurant area and serving area are spottless A real nice place to sit and eat

STAY AWAY!!! NEW REVIEW..... this is different people, or seems it! Brusk! Not pleasant service, almost like you was putting them out! Chips tastless! Small fish, cooked fresh, was , the batter dry and tastless! Cardboard has more taste! Fish was tastless too, left it all and threw it away and it was seven quid over! Curry sauce was also watery? WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!

A couple of months ago on our way home from Covid injections in Mansfield we randomly called at Calverton Fish Bar for a late supper. Since then it's become our chip shop of choice. A friendly team of staff running a very efficient establishment serving consistently good food. A well deserved 5 stars from us.

Not good im afraid. Just paid £12 for a short order and chewy fresh cod. Sorry. Wont visit again as this has happened a few times before. I think we will go to Arnold

My wife and I both rate here highly, food always freshly cooked and it’s the only chippy around where we can always get anything gluten free. Good gluten free batter. Also good that they do Halloumi.

It's a good local chip shop, all the things you would expect are done well. We visit a couple of times a year, have been for 10 years.

Had fish and chips meal ate inside staff helpfull reasonably priced tables clean .

Not liking the chips anymore. Very thin chips and portions are smaller. Third time disappointed. Will try somewhere else next time.

Popped in a few times over the years can’t deny the chips are nice hoping it’s a one off but when last went for my early tea they were hard as if they were stood for a while and served out... il go back in a few weeks and hopefully it was just an unlucky day for me other wise I’m going else where

all freshly cooked great cod bites good portions served in lovely boxes great prices Normally have the chidrens portion which is ample big enough for an adult. Been in there great looking fishes which other people have had in restaurant part

We like to go at lunchtime ,when the special offer is on .Fish ,chips ,peas , bread and butter ,and a drink for £5.50 .what bargain .. Freshly cooked to order ,good portions, and a nice seating area . Staff are great ,especially Tina ,who is always friendly and efficient .

When passing through calverton tonight I decided to call in to my favourite chip shop...I was looking forward to seeing a happy face and a nice welcome this did not happen instead I was greeted by people with there arms folded others eating and on phones behind the counter.On top of this some of the girls had long nails which I know should not be worn and covered up...Needless to say the food as usual was lovely...please get your standards and customer service back to normal befor someone ends reporting you....I still love this chip shop and will continue to use you just please address the issues

This place used to be really nice, however on a recent visit we chose to sit in. To find the vinegar to be watered down and the chicken tikka meat to be lacking in taste. This place has recently changed hands and was really nice with the previous owner. However the chips were well cooked.

My wife and I cover a 14 mile round trip for a chip shop dinner because it is the best chippy in nottinghamshire. This gem of a chip shop is a must visit scene. Everything is of the highest quality.

Lovely friendly service. I had the haddock and chips which was really well cooked and tasted great. Very good value too. We are in and as the tables are to the side of the counter you can watch people come & go and the food being cooked so nice atmosphere.

Stopped by for a quick Lunch on the go. ‘Lunchtime Special’ advertised on counter. Pie, chips & gravy/beans/peas or curry etc £3.50.

Was visiting family in calverton and as it was a Friday only one thing to do ‘Chippie Tea’. And again wasn’t disappointed. Like the fact that the fish is always fresh ( so don’t actually mind a little wait)batter was crisp and light, been using it for years. Definitely recommend if in the area

After years of phoning through orders i am sudenly told they are no lonver taking phone orders by a very rude member of staff. Avoid as food wasaverage anyways

After years as a loyal customer me and my family where suddenly told of pointless policy change and in a rude and horrible manner

Where really rude reffusing to take an order after years of placing the same order in the same way because of a new policy from the owner who proceeded to be abusive on social media and the staff at the time where veey rude

We have had lots of fish and chips from here and they’re just the best. Always cooked to perfection. The staff are so friendly and the service is fab. We are moving out of the area soon but will have to return regularly just for the fish and chips.

Very good and quick service. Typically more of a take-out place but they do have tables if you want to eat there. No alcohol served but not an issue. Fish and Chips (Cod and Haddock) served as small or large portions and they are quite large. The small portion is more than enough if you aren't very hungry.

Visited yesterday to sit inside for fish and chips have been before a while back and has always been nice but yesterday left a lot to be desired. Had been sat down for literaly 30 seconds and a girl appeared out the back room for our order not really had time to look but ordered anyway no hello or anything .Do you do bread and butter i asked yes was the reply i was expecting how many slices white or brown etc with that drinks ordered ; she comes back out slaps a dirty glass on the table and grabs a can of pop from the fridge in the shop and disapears again,next time she pops out with two of the worst slices of brown bread we had ever seen looked like it had been spread by a toddler,well we dont like brown bread especially with fish and chips but she had disappeared again next time we see her she brings the food suposed to be large fish and chips very small portion of chips so i take the oportunity to ask for the bread to changed to white bread i will have a look she says comes back no we dont have any white bread my husband then says we will have bread roll instead no we havent got them either no offer to take it away or take it of the bill then the next thing we hear is people in the actual chip shop,ordering chip,cobs so she obviously couldn't be bothered to fetch them quite disapointed really as it cost £20 so not cheap i think the main focus is obviously the actual chip,shop,and not the restaurant bit you dont feel looked after at all .

It is worth a drive to get large fish and chips .fish is fresh and huge. Batter isn't greasy at all .

Took our grandsons for friday lunch, (school closure _ snow). Had the meal deals, I had pie chips beans gravy, really nice pie. Fish and chips with peas, scampi and chips, chicken nuggets and chips. Bread & butter and drinks. Came to a little over 17 quid. Excellent value, everything cooked fresh and hot, the fish was really nice, the service first class. Would recommend.

Best fish and chips in Calverton. Friendly and courteous staff. Good selection of produce and portion sizes. However, we find that one small portion of chips is sufficient for two adults, and a large is more than enough for three.

Very good choice, and a sit down restaurant with very good value meals. They also do special offers and do a lovely meal deal for the retired people. Very tasty, large choice, very well priced, I recommend them. ☆☆☆☆☆

Good traditional chip shop with seating, food was excellent. Service was provided by Tina who made our visit very pleasant.Good level access for able bodied and wheelchair users.Would highly recommend particularly the specials which are good value for money.

Best chip shop in calverton and surrounding areas, chicken kebab is proper marinated chicken not a big chicken donor, fish is a high seller here, take out or eat in at extra cost, Wednesday night offer any kebab £3.50

Visited here after visiting Peter in centre of town a week earlier. What a difference clean, spotless. Food was excellent fish melts in your mouth... Eat in or takeaway. Friendly staff best chippy in village worth a visit
