The Cods Scallops (Mansfield Road) in Nottingham

Ordered as a takeaway as a family but I am very disappointed ordered mini salmon fishcakes and just got one battered and tasteless salmon with an hair in it unfortunately and didn't receive salt and vinegar on the chips. These together came to around £13. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food so think I just drew the short straw. Also their bag leaked a werid blue ink (I believe it was from the picture on it) onto our white table. I understand mix ups happen but was just a downer to our evening.

Came here tonight, was served by a lovely young lady named kaiya. She was extremely polite and answered our questions about the portion sizes and which would be the best for us. Definitely the best of the staff here, unfortunately the young lady with glasses came across as extremely rude however we will be returning. Thankyou!!

When ever time has it we will go to the Mansfield Road Scallops. Great service very friendly Manager in James and great service and food. Not cheap but the quality is very good. And worth the money. Reccomend

Delicious, by far the best fish and chips I’ve ever had in the UK. No seating available in the shop anyway. Not expensive, big portion.

The best thing about my meal was the mint at the end. The food was not bad but just average, more value for money from a local chippy. I ordered the cod tacos, they are not tacos it is just a wrap. And also ordered the soft shell crab, maybe I am greedy but you only get one and it was not as tasty as I have had before else where.

Omg. Their cod and chips are still the best I have tasted in all my travels. Delicious. Get those extra bits with your chips if asked. Fantastic.

Been before, it was pretty good, second time was exactly the same.

We took our grandchildren for lunch over half term. They loved it, and so did we. The best fish and chips I've had in a long time. The children's portions were generous, and the chicken nuggets were chicken breast meat.

Definitely not as good as it used to be. Chips were like they’ve been cooked twice. Fish was thin and hardly any batter. Muscles weren’t good. Like they were in water, no flavour. £7.50 for three panko breaded prawns. The only thing that was nice was the black pudding fritter.

The waitress forgot our starter. Then when we finished eating we waited 10-15 minutes for the table to be cleared & to be offered a dessert but this didn’t happen. A shame because we usually really love it here.

I was working nearby and colleagues recommended this place for lunch. It was some of the most delicious fish n chips I’ve had in a very long time. I had the fish taco which came with great chips. The fish was amazing and I loved the crunchy, fresh salad that came with it too. Service was great. 100% recommend!

Whilst on the pricier side of fish and chips you can tell that you get really good quality produce. We had a large haddock with chips, Scampi with mushy peas and curry sauce and it was all very tasty. Will definitely return as it' a great Fish and Chip shop

This restaurant claims to be award winning and I can confirm this! My partner and I have been here several times now when staying in Nottingham and it’s a golden gem if you love fish and chips! My partner always opts for the sausage and chips as she’s not a fan of fish and she absolutely loves it! I always go for the cod and chips and the fish is perfectly battered, the fish is thick and flakey and the chips are divine! The ice cream is to die for if you have a sweet tooth or love your ice creams and deserts. I could not recommend this place enough! Honestly, the staff are lovely, the decor is lovely and rather quirky and cool! Show this amazing chippie some love because it really is the best.

We used to enjoy coming here but visited last night and the food was not nice. Chips were found to be chewy.

I went for the plaice, chips, curry sauce and a bottle of sprite. The fish was very overcooked and dry, the chips very bland and non-descript. Considering that this was over £20 for this meal I found extortionate, especially seen as I've had better and larger fish and chips for less than £3. Staff seemed to be rather ignorant and flat. Not somewhere that I'll be visiting again. Only gave the atmosphere 3 as was having a great time catching up with a friend I hadn't seen for a while.

First time using this shop for takeaway. The food was poor and that is being kind. The chips were like rubber, and so many just little hard bits. The fish was overdone and had hardly any batter on . For the price which was extremely expensive I was expecting a lot better, Unfortunately I don't think I will risk that amount again on this being a one off.

We went for the first time,we ordered our food,found a table to sit at abd we ended up waiting a very long time for the food to arrive, a waitress asked if we had been served as she saw us sitting there for a long time,we said we had ordered a while ago and other people had been served before us who arrived after us,she kindly went to see where our order was and she came back with a plate of food and said once I had paid the person who took our order and payment had cancelled it ! So we sat like fools waiting for our meal that wasn't going to come if that young lady hadn't asked about it, the food was OK, very expensive in my opinion the restaurant was nice,good decor but the toilets need checking as when I used the toilet there was a dirty nappy left on top of one if the bins and the packets hanging out of the sanitary bin, 😏 and it smelled 🤮 Sorry but I probably won't come back nor recommend.

Mansfield Road chip shop. Food was really nice. Ate every morsel. Two adults and two children. Two large cod and chips, childs cod and chips, childs sausage and chips with mushy peas times 4. All the food was tasty. Most importantly the kids ate it all. It was quiet in restaurant. Service was Ok just a tad slow. Grandchildren wanted (but did not need) the sundae dessert of ice cream etc. That was £6.50 each. The cost was a bit of a shock. The meals plus 3 orange drinks and a glass of water. Total price for the four of us was £84.50 Crikey. Food absolutely shocking..chips greasy ..half of them went in the bin..not even chips just hard crispy bits full of grease ( not batter bits). The portion of chips small. Fish was okay.. nothing to shout about. First time here and NEVER again..Over priced £15 to takaway . Can get much better at local chippy for the half price. I would NOT recommend then EVER.

Takeout review: Quality is good! Very tasty and filling. However it is *very expensive* for the portion sizes and serving took 15-20 mins, so not the best if you just want a quick pop to the chippy.A standard battered sausage, chips and gravy cost nearly £10, which is bordering on a rip off! See the attached photo. I'd recommend you visit this place as a restaurant, not for the takeaway, due to how expensive it is. But the quality is great!

We have been a valued customer of cod & Scallop for many years our first and favourite call was at bramcote we have been to 5 or 6 others over the years . We just visited west Bridgeford and my cod and chips where dreadful even though the young lady informed me they had a chef ! I said do you mean head fryer no she said he’s a chef 😂 when we originally went a large cod was full of fish tonight it was dreadful and spot the cod

I went because of the press coverage. I went at lunch time. When I entered the only four customers present were seated and enjoying their meal. I tried to get the attention of the staff but they all seemed busy. After some time i was advised to take a seat. No one came to take my order. I tried twice to attract their attention. I gave up and left. No one tried to speak to me. I won't be going back.

Grabbed a small fish and chips with mushy peas as a takeaway dinner after a long day, and my goodness it was a day-changer! Perfectly flakey fish, crispy batter, delicious chips … excellent!

We sometimes come here if we fancy 'posh' fish and chips. It's more expensive than other fish and chips places but the fish is lovely here. It's nice to eat in and not have the washing up. An alternative to chips is also available, which I really like. I had the Asian salad which was delicious and went surprisingly well with cod. Batter was crispy and edible but rather too poly, otherwise top nosh.

Food good but service indifferent 😐. And not cheap either 😑 Seriously, you pay nearly £15 for fish and chips and you're charged over £1 for a tiny pot of garlic mayonnaise!!! Staff please note, it doesn't cost anything to smile!!

Ridiculously expensive for what it is. Where I come from you would get 2 fish in a fish order, and also the fish was £8.90 and not a supper, just one lonely fish. So a meal was nearly £14 when you include chips. Really??

Family meal last night. Large cod- You’re having a laugh! Tiny portion of mushy peas £2.70!! Greasy tables. Greasy seats. Unbearably loud music. Been a fan of this place since Bramcote Lane place opened. Never again. Trading on past glories I’m afraid. Rip off.

Hugely disappointing visit with grandchildren. Chips were just warm and more batter than fish. Poor service. had to keep going to counter to request items. Puddings were served and dirty plates still on table. Also overpriced. Will not visit again.

Very clean place, I ate the fish & chips but in my opinion the baked preparations are also good. I ate a very good baked sea bass (sea bass) and also an excellent baked salmon, not dry at all. I've also seen good prawns served. Honest prices. The staff work very hard, however they always look smiling and welcoming and the guys at the grill cook very well. They close in the evening at 9pm and clean until late. Truly an excellent place also for compatriots who are used to high standards. Honestly, I wish there was a place like this here too.

Ordered online many times. Last 2 orders was sent large portion of chips but they were completely raw. Not sure how that happens in a fish and chip shop… unable to get a refund. Won’t be doing any more business. Shame because we used to order every other day.

Normally eat in and take out from this place and food is Normally good. Just ordered for a delivery and the food must of been kept warm all day at restaurant. All the food chips/fish the award winning pie was serious all dried out. It was that bad we couldn't ear it. I don't normally leave reviews but I was that disappointed.

Good range of seafood dishes however unfortunately most of them off the menu when we went. To be honest just slightly above average fish n chips so seems overrated. Booze being available with meals was a definite positive.

The good is brilliant. I had the cheese pie and it was very, very delicious. The staff are pleasant and nothing seems too much trouble. A very nice evening meal with a glass of wine. I mean, what's not to like.

This chippy has got a great reputation for a reason! We decided to sit in and eat and the service was great, lovely staff members, the price is perfect for what you’re ordering. Good selection of drinks too. I had the small battered cod, chips and curry sauce and the portion sizes are amazing.

Visited yesterday (Saturday afternoon) after vowing never to return after being served a below average meal in the Wollaton branch a while ago..Cannot post any photos of our meal as there wasn’t one….was told to sit down and our order would be taken,the restaurant was fairly quiet but after sitting for 17 minutes and being ignored we walked out….no zero rating so begrudgingly you earn one star…brilliant 👎

Got a takeaway. Up from London visiting family. A bit disappointed with my haddock and chips as they were a bit overdone. Not terrible, but a little disappointing. Great service, so would give them another go as I was told that this place does excellent fish and chips. The venue was extremely popular, so I think and hope that maybe I was a bit unlucky with my meal. Will give them another try when I'm next up in Nottingham.

Following a hospital stay and surgery, I was driven down to pick up a comforting takeaway 20 mins before closing. My family love fish and chips, but I am vegetarian and usually can’t have anything at a chippy… (sometimes I can’t even have the chips) so it isn’t usually my first choice. However, The Cod’s Scallops had plenty of veggie and vegan options which is why we ended up there tonight. The entrance and restaurant was bright, clean, inviting and warm. The young woman at the till was so friendly and welcoming, as were the chefs. I’ve worked in hospitality for years and have never met such lovely, hospitable kitchen staff. I was feeling unsurprisingly unwell in myself, so this meant so much to me tonight. I got home to realise my chips were missing from the bag, however when I phoned back (already after closing) someone was quick to answer the phone and passed me through to the manager. To my surprise, the manager very kindly offered to drive out to my home address to deliver the chips and make up for this mistake. He was with us very quickly, was very polite, apologetic and helpful. These mistakes happen, but as a family we’ve never seen such good customer service when running into similar issues in the past elsewhere. Thank you to the entire team at The Cod’s Scallops for the delicious meal and impeccable service, God knows I needed it! We will definitely be back.😊

Good quality as usual but in common with other fish and chip places now quite expensive. I do realize though that businesses have to charge more to survive. Will definitely be going back as food and service is very good.

Hands down THE BEST fish and chip shop i think ive ever been to. Insanely good! Had scallops and oysters. Spot on! Especially the scallops. Not overcooked at all like a lot of places. Also had hot sticky toffee pudding. Totally recommend.

I went to cod & scallops at Wilford to pick up code & chips twice and honestly it was terrible ! It was spit the cod in the soggy batter and the chips where like cardboard! Not great for the fish & chip shop of the year

Fish was really tasty and very filling. Excellent menu with a range of items to choose from including drinks. The restaurants own 'Scale Ale' was a great along side the fish. It was not busy when we went with plenty of tables. Staff serving were very friendly and attentive, checking back that everything was OK after receiving the food. Good attention to detail with restaurant theme from lobster pot lights to octopus wine bucket. Just adds to the experience of eating there. Just been for another excellent meal there.

Absolutely vile ! Like physically how can someone serve these and not see they are just not fresh or upto standards. Positive was they were so DRY , you actually did not need to squeeze off the excess grease in a napkin . The battered cod was as expected that's about it.

We have been fans of Cod’s Scallops since they first opened in Wollaton and have always raved about the quality of the food, friendliness of the staff and often defended them when others have mentioned how expensive they are. But I’m sad to say from our experience today I think the critics have got a point. The portions were small… fish was incredibly greasy…. Chips were tasteless and the service was poor - or rather the attitude of our waitress who was simply aloof. The icing on the cake was that we had ordered ice creams that were described as being served with the sauce of your choice and a flake. They arrived without a flake so I asked if they should have come with a flake to be told by the waitress that she could go and get us a flake but it would be 50p extra each. I politely pointed out that the menu says they come with the flake and her response was to ask if we wanted her to go and get the flakes. Errr….. yes! She then stomped off in a huff and 5 mins later someone else brought the flakes to the table. We spent almost £100 between the five of us (only three had ice cream) and all of us left feeling disappointed and that it just wasn’t worth it. Sad to say Cod’s Scallops seem to have become complacent and that shows in the food and attitudes. Perhaps that’s why there were only two other sets of diners in there at the same time. Such a shame.

Food excellent service excellent especially Hannah. Be careful and check the wine prices before you order!! Asked about red wine was told they had merlot, Malbec and Pinot noir pretty standard house wines where ever you go I thought’ so ordered a Malbec. Turned out to be classed as a fine wine and cost £16 a glass thought I was in Scott’s Mayfair!! My loyalty card was stamped a few times as a form of compensation which softened the blow very slightly. Got home had a glass of Malbec £8 a bottle !!

Good food, vegetarian options available. Subdued lighting, a bit dark for me but will dine there again.

One of the best fish and chips in the UK. The portions aren’t that large but the ingredients were clearly high quality. Fish was so fresh and tender. Chips were buttery, flavoursome, crispy. I like that fish and chips comes with tartare sauce and lemon wedge.

The choice on offer is amazing. I had baked hake whilst the Mrs had some amazing scallops. So far removed from a traditional Fish 'N' Chips as you can imagine, yet not pretentious nor over priced. Well worth the hype and the awards it has won so far.

I ordered a large fish, chips and curry . The fish was a good size but the chips was just enough to feed my 5 year old son. There was even enough room on the tray to place the curry sauce. They also offer batter bits to fill the tray up. Disappointing the lengths takeaways go to just to save that little extra.

I enjoyed fish and chips with 4 of my good friends. The food was delicious, will definitely be coming back.

UPDATE, will not being going anymore since they switched to commodity vegetable oil. The last two times, the portion size of the cod & chips was really mean for £13 and I thought the traditional beef dripping was the main reason for the premium price but that no longer applies. Personally, I believe the chips are better done in the vegetable oil, but the battered fish is just like any other half-decent chippy's but smaller and more expensive. It is no longer worth the special trip or the premium price for what is the size and taste of a £5 mini fish and chips special at other places.

I have visited The Cod's Scallops on several occasions and can see why they have been awarded as the best fish and chip shop. They have managed to make a fish and chips meal feel so special with the quality and cleanliness of the place and also the excellent customer service. For me, the chips always feel and taste a little over cooked but that's just a personal preference. Excellent overall.

Really gone down hill. The chips were burnt, the fish was dry, the pie was dry and the service wasn't great either. The manager was able to sort us a discount but I wouldn't be going there again. The original one on Bramcote Lane is much better

Visited with family and two of us had fish n chips and three vegetarians had haloumi and chips. The food was piping hot (freshly cooked) and tasty. It's not quite as good as it used to be, when the big fellow with the beard was...

We hadn’t visited the Carrington restaurant for the last couple of years . We don’t live nearby. The prices have increased so much . The staff don’t seem friendly and the quality of of the food has changed so much . Not at all tasty...

Best fish and chips I have had for a while. Very friendly and polite staff. Will visit again. They also do their own tomato sauce. Had to buy a couple bottles to take home with me. Also enjoyed the play list.
