Normally I would be eating this chip shop no less than a 5 but today I can honestly say I am disappointed. Had we not driven home I would be taking the food straight back. The chips served were shrivelled up and dried out, clearly left overs from the night before and reheated. Normally the food served is of a good quality. Next time instead of driving away I will be checking the quality. The staff were very friendly and it was good to see that the cleaning was being done, but surely cleaning should be undertaken outside cooking and serving times.

This is probably the best fish and chip shop in Aylesbury. I just Wish you’d cook your food the traditional way in beef dripping - then it would be five stars. That would elevate it to the next level. Vegetable oil is pretty tasteless.

Fish was extremely disappointing as the batter was soggy underneath. The curry sauce didn’t taste like a traditional chip shop curry sauce. Won’t be rushing back.

Anyone who has ever had decent fish and chips will realise that these just don’t cut it. The fish were small and the batter was soggy. Chips were ok but the curry sauce had a funny taste. Wouldn’t go back in a hurry.

Terrible! I used to love this place, but every time I order now, they do not pay attention to the receipt order. Many items get missed, and if they are there, they are wrong ( missing ingredients paid for ) Or the wrong items in the order. Absolutely ruined my families evening ! And this has happened more than 5 times, so this needs to be sorted. You have lost us as customers now. While waiting for your food too, you see customers come back in and complain items are missed. Delivery sucks even more ! You can't complain about it because you need to wait for the receipt to be generated. It's disgusting that so many peoples money and time get wasted having to sort this out. You'd rather have your food be late than not there at all ! Pay attention to your receipts and notes on the receipts! Not happy at all and evening ruined.

I came to the Codfather because of it's great reviews, I ordered haddock and chips, the fish was cooked to order so it took a while, that I don't mind. When I got home I was very disappointed in the meal. The portion was generous but the fish was dry and not very tasty as if it had been in the freezer for too long. The chips were very thin cut rectangular in section (presumably so that they cook quicker) so they were also quite dry, I wont be rushing back.

Wouldn’t go anywhere else, the best fish and chips!! So many tasty options on the menu! Great service and never have to wait too long, always very happy!

Jay at the Codfather is so friendly and helpful. He has arranged several meals that have been delivered still steaming out of the heat bags. We are talking 40 - 60 meals so to have them all arrive hot is a task in itself. The food has always gone down well and I can highly recommended them as the best Fish & Chip shop in Aylesbury. I wouldn't use anyone else.

The food was good, my only complaint is that as part of my takeaway I ordered battered halloumi, double checked that it was vegetarian with the assistant, and then when I got home found that it had been put in the same bag as the battered sausage. No good for a vegetarian, my daughter could not eat it.

Husband just brought steak and kidney pie (ticket n.o. 71) plus chips and small battered sausage ,pie was stone cold when temp checked it was only 18.5. Not good enough . As I work with food knowing that a temperature of that is unexceptionable please check your temperatures off the food before you make people ill

My go too chippy but last night the service was shocking, I ordered on the app as I usually do for a 7pm collection. When I got thier it was empty and I said I had placed an app order, they confirmed this and said just waiting on chips.. Then after about 5 mins they asked the fryer about the cheese balls and halloumi, he had no clue and they hadn't been put down, I ended up waiting 25mins until my order was given but at no time was I apologised too or said sorry for the wait. This has happened a couple of times, I'm aware of new staff but simple manners don't need training.

This is usually a great fish and chip shop. But our little group of friends ordered 5 fish and 2 large boxes of chips and when we got home there was only one box of chips. And we were really hungry. We had to fill up with lots of cake. Bit disappointed.

I posted last week about Codfather because I was so surprised that the food and service were nowhere near their usual standard. Well, I am very pleased to say that I had fish and chips from them last night and everything is back to normal. Excellent food and service!

Speedy service and friendly staff.

Love their chips so much but today was so thin. Food is delicious as always, however the senior lady staff didnt provide a good customer service and also bad attitude to junior staff which make all people in the shop so embarrassing. If she knows how to respect everyone which will make the shop atmosphere much better.

This is my go to place for fish & chips and has been for years. The fish is always battered perfectly and cooked to perfection and this is still the case if it is a mini fish or a large. The in house made fish cakes are delicious and well worth trying. The staff are polite and friendly, the premises is always clean and tidy. There is plenty of free parking and it's conveniently next to a Tesco Express should you need anything else.

Fantastic fish and chips here, just like the seaside! Got 1 thing wrong once and was followed up professionally and quickly - that's the way to do good customer service!

Update: Owner was kind enough to followup on a voucher and ensured that I get what was promised. I hope this was the last time I faced this issue. Extremely bad experience with Codfather. I ordered via app and picked up my order. Only to realise at home that one large cod was missing from my order. Called them back and their simple answer was that they will send me a voucher. Though I am still waiting for a voucher 2 days later but our whole evening was ruined as it take lot of time and effort for pickup and to realise it was all gone for a waste.

Great food and a great selection of food. One of the best chip-shops I've ever been to. The quality of the ingredients and the high standard of hygiene evident are very reassuring. The staff are competent and courteous the speed of service is impressive. The location is very convenient and parking is easy and plentiful. Overall, an example of how a chip shop should be operating. One of the few local chip shops doing Spam Fritters, and the salted caramel churros are highly addictive, BEWARE.

Service was very fast. The staff were lovely, very friendly and inviting. Inside was very clean. Food was cooked to a brilliant standard, possibly the best fish and chips I've ever had. Plenty of choice. Over all impeccable expirance will be returning. Would recommend to anyone looking for a lovely meal.

Just called in here tonight on the way home from work. Well once home to my surprise was a tiny cod mainly covered in batter accompanied by the smallest portion of chips - very disappointing. Not recommended at all! #codfibber #£11 rip off!!!!

The Cod here in my opinion is the best i have tried in the South East, the fish itself it buttery, delicious and clean & has no strong smell which indicates its a good quality grade of fresh/fresh frozen fish. The batter is what makes it though, its light, crispy and has amazing aeration which results in it holding no excess grease from the fryer which is what makes some of best fish and chips shops around the country. Cant comment on the Haddock or other cuts of fish as i have never tried them, but im sure they are equally as good. The chips on the other hand are decent, but i can name 2-3 others in Aylesbury that do better ones. The problem i always found is that the chips here dont get enough time in the fryer and as a result are a bit soggy, cooked through of course, but not exactly on point like the fish which lets it down slightly. Having said that i dont go often in at all in a year (although wish i could), so since that point things on the chip side have improved as i always thought it was preventing them from being the total package. Side note the menu is really varied, i see they have started doing milkshakes now as well and not got around it much, but the choclate Churros are a must, seriously an amazing desert option to try as they come hot. All in all i'm rating them 5 star as i have been going for many years, albeit not as much as i would like to visit as previously mentioned. However one slight problem.... Yesterday looking forward to returning, i went around 9:10-9:15pm and and i was the only one there, however they told me they stopped cooking and they only have chips and a saveloy to offer, i declined and left. I see a few other low reviews mentioning this and if they want to shut at 9.00pm then please to the manager i suggest updating Google as it clearly states closing time midweek is 9:30pm, if you say your shutting at a certain time then all food should be served till then regardless if its quiet or not as its a wasted journey. Items running out i understand but staff shutting down early in a non sit down place, because they just feel like it due to it being quiet when 15 mins difference is not reflective of the timings on Google, then this should be way more clear. Anyhow, hopefully next time i can get a meal here again as its been some time since my last takeaway from this great establishment and irrespective of this i will keep my review as 5 stars.

The day before the party I popped in to confirm the order which was now 31 varying portions of fish and chips, pie And chips and sausage and chips. They tallied up the balance to be paid on delivery and confirmed all the delivery details. Upon delivery, which was bang on time, all food was piping hot, every box was labelled, and everything was correct, which for an order that size I think was pretty impressive. Balance was paid with a receipt provided. Everyone finished their dinner, even the 9 year old ! Everyone commented on how fresh and hot the food was and obviously delicious by the empty boxes. The stress of organising a surprise party was immense but the one thing I didn't have to worry about was the food! Codfather, you were efficient, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I cannot fault the food or the service and will continue to use you as we have done over the years. You certainly have 30 new customers from our party guests ! A* !

I only just discovered that the Codfather sell milkshakes... the biscoff milkshake is literally the best I've ever had. It's the perfect consistency and unbelievably tasty. I also recommend the halloumi.

Very disappointing 😞.. have heard this was the best chippy in Aylesbury....thought I'd try them out last night.... well well what a big mistake.... I ordered 2x cod 1xmed chips and onion rings... which I will add cost a WHOPPING £21.00... however once I got my order home I looked into my order and was horrified to see only 1x cod 2x chips and 1x onion rings... NOT WHAT I ORDERED AND PAID FOR. Spoke to manager by phone who was very apologetic and told me he would issue me with a £10 coupon off my next purchase... he said I would receive an email with this offer. Nothing received yet.... only time will tell... I do hope they honour this as this will give me the opportunity to give them another chance.. I am a once bitten type of person and generally will boycott a food establishment if I have not had a good meal.... let's hope they honour their word.. I am still awaiting my voucher

Usually very good but on this occasion disappointed to find when I arrived home that paid for items were not included in the food bag. I understand errors are sometimes made but it should not be too difficult to check a few items on the order receipt with the bag contents.

Edit to original review below: Has now been resolved by Nik who has been very helpful and apologetic once he was made aware of the issue. He dealt with it very quickly and I am happy with the outcome. Thanks Nik Ordered through the just eat app and when the delivery came, there were 7 separate items missing from the order. Called them to be told to come and collect and that they could not bring the missing items! The reason I ordered was because I could not collect in the first place! Very bad attitude from the person on the phone and was told to ask for a refund from Just Eat. What great customer service, not! Just Eat it turns out are just as bad and we are nearly 2 weeks on now and still no refund. Very bad experience and will never use them again if this is how they treat their customers.

Went last night as it was the last monday of the month. Checked website beforehand which was updated 2023! Staff said theyve never done gluten free option, so why advertise it? Obviously couldnt buy anything. Very disappointing. Apparently gf is available from their other site on Wednesdays, but still no help to me last night. Rubbish.

Can be variable but today the food was pretty good, apart from rather soggy batter on the fish. Pity the staff are always unfriendly at Jackson Rd. No smile, no greeting, barely polite. And when ordering using the app I hardly ever receive a message to say the food is ready. Really annoying. However, the other chippies in Aylesbury are poor, so this is the best option.

Whenever I visit Aylesbury, not often these days, I ALWAYS make a point of going to The Codfather for their homemade Fishcakes, they are amazing and have to be tasted to be believed. Their chips are great, the staff are always friendly. I highly recommend a visit.

Best chip shop we’ve ever been too- would never go anywhere else. Food is always amazing and service is always great. Oh my days what a find. I’m coeliac and really miss having fish and chips but just discovered this gem with all their fish and chips available as gluten free every Sunday. They are open from 12.00-21.00 eat in or take away. Highly recommend a visit.

The best Fish and Chips (outside of Bournemouth). Absolutely great service and food. They have recently given the branch a great makeover and have kept their great food as delicious. An absolute gem. We've been going to the Codfather for years and, compared to other local chippies, Codfather is consistently brilliant. Fantastic chips, and the vegan nuggets are lovely. It's great to have a different vegan choice! The portion sizes are generous and the service is speedy.

Delicious food and very COVID aware. Max number of people in the shop at any one time and when an extra customer walked in was told to stand outside. Nice and reassuring in these uncertain times!

My mum went to get some chips for the family and was recommended the cod father as it tastes amazing and use quality ingredients. When going for food we always look at hygiene they have a 5 star hygiene rating. When taking my first bite of a chip I fell in love the best chips hands down I’ve had. Highly recommend.

Absolutely scrumptious . Having been in lockdown since March plus being in hospital have really been wanting fish and chips. Had some from Buckingham park shop and they were far better then I was expecting. The fish was so thick and the batter had a lovely taste, the chips were crunchy and fluffy in the inside.
