Absolutely stunning! The pub boasts a beautiful view, delicious food, and incredibly friendly staff. Will definitely be returning!

We went to the bar to get drinks and received a very sharp and abrupt welcome. The lady serving appeared to be a manager. I asked politely for a pimms but the response I got was as if it was too much effort to make it as there wasn’t some already made up. So I didn’t end up ordering a pimms as I felt very uncomfortable. Not in any rush to go back.

Very good food, lovely setting, good service - what’s not to like! We’re looking forward to going back in summer and enjoying the terrace and view.

I am severely dissapointed with my meal here, food took over an hour and a half to come out, atmosphere was very loud and hard to hear people next to me. Food got mixed up by waitresses and ended up with wrong meal. Severely dissapointed considering I had heard good things from other people

Fantastic pub,lovely atmosphere with cracking views.

Roast dinner was yummy, and the wine we chose was a local one which I would absolutely go for again. The whitebait starter was pleasant, but perhaps as the fish themselves were larger than I have had before, they were a little less flavourful than I'd have preferred, but the accompanying sauce made up for it ☺️ Coffee to finish was delicious. Service was great; attentive waiting staff took care of all we needed, and the place itself is beautiful with stunning views of the local countryside.

Had Sunday lunch today. Generally positive, it is a lovely place with a well stocked bar. However, standing room only while we were waiting to be seated. Terrific starters, whitebait, pork medallions and hummus. Main course roast a bit disappointing, potatoes could have done with another 10 minutes and weren't crispy and I almost asked for a steak knife to tackle the roast beef - it tasted good but the texture was a bit rubbery. Portion sizes were generous. Also, none of our meals could have been described as piping hot. Service was good. Perhaps they are simply trying to cater for too many people, it is certainly a popular venue.

We went on a night when they were short staffed. Steak was great, pie was quite dry and the ham was disappointing, expected nice thick carved ham, looked more like out of a packet. The lad serving us was out standing, spent his whole evening apologizing to one table or another, couldn't have worked any harder.

We were really looking forward to returning to the Black Boy after quite some time, but unfortunately the experience was not very good. The food was a massive disappointment, the starter was minimal for the price and the main course was even worse as the potatoes were uncooked and inedible. The whole meal was like nouvelle cuisine and both my wife and I left still hungry. It will be a long time before we consider going back . Such a shame ..

Locally sourced food. Free range eggs. Proper ONE TIME COOKED CHIPS,(None of this three times reheated from last night rubbish) nor frozen, but thick cut proper chips. Staff friendly and chatty. Very dog friendly. Wish it was in walking distance not a 15 min drive. A very clean and cozy country pub.

11th December 2023 Had a quick couple of drinks with a customer on a cold, wet mid December evening. The place is a gorgeous brick built 16th century Inn which is lovely outside and in. The Fire was ROARING when we went in and we managed to get a seat right next to it which was very lucky and cosy. Was very pleasantly surprised by how busy it was for a Monday night (GOOD - THIS is how to run a successful boozer that serves it's locals beautifully!!). Barmaid was exceptional and offered us tasters of the on tap offerings. We wanted a Guinness but she suggested Black Heart (BrewDog) which was a worthy replacement (although nothing can top the Original Guinness). Hope she can forgive me trying to chat her up.. i mean, let's be real a gorgeous girl like that was always bound to give an old gargoyle like myself the 'jog-on' but she did it with such class and kindness that she made me feel ok about getting blown out.. Now THAT is a skill! A real credit to the establishment. i Will certainly revisit given the opportunity again. i NEVER give 5 stars but this place came very (very) close and i would give 4.5 (nearly perfect) if i could. MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL.

A real gem, even on a cold, wet and grey December Tuesday, but a warm welcome still. We will return.

Food tasty but salad was basically rocket with 2 slices of cucumber and a bit of pepper. No one came to check food ok or offer further drinks. Had to get someone's attention for the bill

First time I have had a disappointing meal here. This pub is usually my first choice for a good pub lunch. Sadly, on this visit I was let down. Pie of the day was ‘Fish pie’. My friend and I both went for the description of what promised to be a classic. The waitress said they would be running out of this as it was proving popular. When it arrived, it looked promising. However, mine was mainly made up of al dente carrots and, after we inquired what the white hard vegetable was, parsnips in a fish sauce! Hardly any mashed potato topping. I told the waitress that my fish had definitely ‘swam’ away and that it would have been a fairer description to call it vegetables in fish sauce pie, as there was no evidence of fish in my portion. My friend’s portion was mainly the white vegetable with one tiny piece of white fish and carrot. We were given our coffee for free, but on reflection we should not have paid as the food was was not as described. I think they had obviously run out of the filling and made up this concoction (the waitress told us it had been a popular choice that day and they would soon be running out) . Very disappointed indeed for a £17 dish of food! My friend did enjoy her dessert of coffee cheesecake. I decided against a desert, and will think very seriously about returning there for future lunches.

Service incredibly poor and inattentive; had to chase/ask for menus both for mains and deserts (twice), to order first drinks, then for condiments and the bill. Never got asked if we wanted another drink. Chips got dropped on floor and wrong pudding arrived. Lots of staff standing around chatting rather than interacting with people or being helpful! Food decidedly meh (hoisin wraps were just bad and the tiniest fish/chips), not great seating if you have a dog with you (only one normal table, rest are sofas which isn’t great for eating)

What a lovely little find hidden away in picturesque Oving. Although we hadn't booked the wonderful staff did fit us in. It was snug where we were situated but we were comfortable. The views and the garden are simply beautiful and food was delicious.

We LOVE the Black Boy, the food, especially the roasts are AMAZING!! and they even put a candle in my dessert when I mentioned it was my birthday, it really made my day :)

I called to book a table yesterday. Luke who answered but very blunt in saying “the bar is busy, call back in 1 hour” Didn’t bother so we spent £100 at the Five Elms in Weedon instead. Food and service was amazing

Fantastic, historic pub in a gorgeous village location with amazing views! The food was delicious too, all of us had the Sunday roast (one pork and two veggie) and all of them were very tasty! The honey and whiskey cheesecake was also one of the best desserts I've had! Friendly service too! Highly recommended 🥰

Came here for my birthday lunch. We ordered alot of food ( 3 sides, 2 starters, 2 mains ) between 2 of us. The mains were absolutely lovely, the starters and sides were okay. A couple were missing items, but the service, atmosphere, place itself was perfect. Would deffintely reccomend.

We had a group of us so booked a table in the garden. The view there is spectacular. Sadly the evening we went it rained and the clouds descended, but we're hardy souls so stuck it out. The food was fantastic & the service friendly as always. Highly recommend this place

Very nice Sunday lunch at a pleasant pub restaurant. Traditional roast with aubergine roast as vegetarian choice. Pleasant setting and attentive staff but parking can be problematic. A little e tucked away but worth a visit.

One 🌟 because it looked clean! Tonight at 6.30 pm Tuesday evening the nicest day so far this spring. We parked in the carpark which had roughly 10 cars parked up, the bar had a handful of men who had just walked in before we had, (note they already had drinks lined up on the bar) The garden had 3 tables with a handful of people sat at them. Now try and grasp this. As soon as we entered the bar area we were pounced on by an extremely anxious middle aged woman, who asked if we had booked for the restaurant which was empty, No, we responded we only wanted a drink. She then went on in a very hypervexed way how we could not be served a drink only because they were too busy! The bar was more or less empty, and how she had 40 people in the garden and couldn't keep up with drinks. WHAT? We said but the bars hardly full, and the pub was more or less empty, but no she refused us a drink, even the other customers looked perplexed, including the bar person. This was a Tuesday it's not a busy night, this pub was not even slightly busy. So Bizzare. GOD help her on a FRIDAY OR SATURDAY. The black boy needs to address their policy, seemingly this person has far too much money to turn down serving customers on a very quiet evening especially after no business for 2 years. The woman serving behind the bar seemed calm and unstressed, and everyone at the bar had been served. Whoever this woman is, who then followed us out, was leaving on such a busy night to work on another job??? NEEDS SACKING, if she is the owner, she shouldn't be in the hospitality industry. In all the times I've been to the black boy or any other pub or restaurant which is many, I've never ever known this. Ever!

Food is amazing aswell as atmosphere. Staff lack communication, drinks are over priced - £4.50 for a postmix pepsi.

Came here for my partners birthday. Food was amazing. Great views and big shout out to Holly for making us feel super welcome. We will definitely come back.

Lovely pub, great views of bucks countryside, was in need of a roast dinner because it was Sunday! Past experience, it's tough to find a great roast so finding somewhere you can trust is hard. It's a little on the pricey side but it's well worth it! Trio of meat was my choice 😋, 2 children with us 2 empty bowls. 👍

Went for a late Sunday lunch on route to Waddesdon Manor. Very cold day but a warm welcome and friendly service. Not a cheap option but a very good quality Roast had by 3 of us. Fishcake main was also declared lovely. Limited choice of starters and 3 of the options were cheesy. Decent wine choices and several ales. This pub is tucked away in a small village but worth seeking out.

Lovely pub in a beautiful location . Let down by food and service on this occasion unfortunately. Food was dry and a bit bland ( I had pie of the day) And service was very slow with staff that didn't seem like they wanted to be there. ( and it showed) . When asking a waitress for her recommendation she couldn't give it as she didn't know the menu .. Maybe a bad night as have heard many great things about this pub ..

Super place, fitted us in, great Sunday dinner

We live nearby and frequent the Blackboy quite often as it has a lovely garden and great beer. We went for lunch on Sunday and were very disappointed. They had run out of the only vegetarian option on the menu. I therefore requested a roast but without the meat and assumed the price would be lowered. I was informed the price would be the same because you get extra vegetables! I was also informed the gravy was based on meat so I could not have that either. No vegetarian option was available. We then waited for 50 minutes for our food to arrive. We had to get up to go to the bar as the waitresses did not seem to be taking any notice of their customers and asking them if they needed anything. There was a lot of wondering about. We had to ask them if we could order our food and dessert as they did not ask us. The food on arrival was very good and the peanut butter cheesecake was amazing but the service does need to improve and they need to consider vegetarian customers - there are quite a lot of us now. We had paid a deposit but the first bill presented to us did not have that deducted. We were about to pay it when they then provided us with the right bill. Watch out if you’ve paid a deposit. We will definitely go back but probably for drinks.

Absolutely brilliant pub. Great food, great beer and VERY dog friendly! Anna and the team looked after us really well and we had a lovely evening. We were able to stay overnight in our campervan, which was really handy. Call ahead and book a table if you want to do this, just let them know you've got a van. We'll definitely be back!

Been a very long time since I've been in, organised a joint birthday party for family members. 90 minute wait for food, beer served in glasses straight out the dishwasher and almost too hot to touch, mediocre food and terrible attitude of the bar staff. Won't be returning.

Service was great, but I found a lack of variety in the food. Would have loved more pub classics like cottage pie or sausage and mash.

My friend and I stumbled on this fabulous pub by chance, it is very small from the outside but once inside we were very pleasantly surprised. Staff are lovely, very helpful, the pub is lovely inside with great features, the outside seating area is large and spacious and the food lovely...only moan is the tiny starter and the price of it , I would definitely return.

One of the most beautiful pubs I have visited in a long time. Large inside and a huge garden with the most scenic views. We have heard good reports of this place before, so decided to pop in for a drink, but will definitely be going back for meals soon. Sunday is roast all day for about £15. So good value. A good varied menu the rest of the week.
