Good food and beer in a lovely setting. Service quick and friendly. Looking forward to my next visit.

Visited here for mothers day, had the ham terrine for starters, very well done and exceptionally presented. Mains was roast port, with cauliflower cheese and extra potatoes. Very generous portion, the meat was delicious and a whole host of veggies that lay underneath the massive Yorkshire pudding, it was like a real adventure, red cabbage and the gravy were so stand out. It took some time to arrive but we didnt mind this as we were chatting. The pud I chose was a mint semi freddo (most delicious paired with a single espresso). All in all a very good experience, we didn't mind the slightly higher cost as it was off set by the quality of produce and skill full cooking and presentation. Visited the garden for a vape and was taken aback by the breath taking views, can't wait to visit again in the summer. Well done guys n gals. Highly recommended.

Visited for Mother's day lunch, for a Roast rib of beef. The beef was extremely tough, not good at all, but the Yorkshire pudding was the best I've ever tasted

Beautiful gastro pub in lovely village with incredible views over the valley towards Buckingham. Super service, lovely and friendly with great food. We will be back Update: March 2025. Just a quick visit for ham, egg, and chips lunch. Wow, perfection. Absolutely beautiful food. Such a beautiful pub in a beautiful part of England. And you are doing everything right. Thank you! We stumbled across this pub yesterday. It is now our best country pub. Stunning views, great village location, great food and nice staff. Can't wait to go back.

Lovely food and lovely staff! Really enjoy it there - can imagine it only gets better as the weather gets warmer. Only issue can be it’s too full and too much ordering going on so it’s a wait for food but that’s expected in extreme cases they cope well

Very slow service. Food was ok but after waiting so long you start to loose interest.

Absolutely fantastic experience. The staff were truly amazing and attentive, nothing was too much and totally accommodating to every request. We had fish and chips which was delicious and 4 meals with drinks was very reasonable, no service charge automatically added but I was extremely happy to include this as it was a great experience. The garden and location was also really, really nice. I would highly recommend a visit. P.S, included in the price of every the fish and chips ordered was a small donation of 25p which the pub doubled and went towards the upkeep of the beautiful village church which i thought was a really nice touch. Head on there if your in the location as you will have a lovely time.

We came for the Italian menu weekend. It was lovely from start to finish. I had the mackerel with the beetroot risotto and it was bellisimo! Top marks to the chef

We came in at 6pm for dinner and we would highly recommend. They had a special Italian menu running and we all ordered a variety of dishes. The aranchini was spicy but not overwhelming. Full of flavour and well presented. The chef is exceptional and the food didn’t dissapoint. You could tell the pasta was homemade, what more can I say! Georgia is an amazing chef and is incredibly talented

We Have been loads of times to the Black Boy as we live close by. We always have a great time when we go. They have lovely staff, really nice food and fair prices! And we always really enjoy the monthly quiz! We waited about an 45 mins for our mains on a very quiet night this evening. We ordered the lentil Wellington which was very nice! Only let down was the ‘gravy’ very thick and didn’t taste of anything. We also had the burger, vegetarian curry, pizza and garlic bread with mozzarella for starter, I can’t recommend the starter enough! Very delicious! We were all very full and enjoyed all our meals!

Enjoyable lunch. Had pork steak with gratin, red cabbage and green bean. Lots of nice sounding choices. Friendly and helpful service. Was a bit quiet but there was a blazing fire to warm up with. Great to have mini desserts. Had a mini cheese plate with coffee.

Service was slow, to non existent. Over an hour from arriving before food arrived, had to order drinks from the bar myself as waiting staff were not forth coming, the same applied when it came to getting the bill. The first disappointment was when I asked what type of fish was used in the 'fish & chips' and was told it was pollock, otherwise known as poor man's cod. I would have thought they would use a better quality, more flavoursome fish. The same applies to the sea bass shown on the sample menu that has now transformed into coley, a fish I used to give to my dog when it wasn't feeling well. Now on to the food we actually ordered. The turkey pie x 2 was nice except for the mash which had a dry skin on it, presumably from being left under the warmer lamps way too long. The portabello mushroom burger was served virtually cold except for the mushroom itself and the fries, which were warm. This dish also seemed to be missing the baked mozzarella as advertised on the menu. Lastly, the pork and mushroom stroganoff was served luke warm and had no flavour, mushroom or otherwise. Overall, pooly prepared dishes using cheap ingredients at gourmet prices. I will not be returning.

I had the rib eye roast beef but the beef was no where near rib eye! Chewy with hard fat and I left most of it. All the rest lacked flavour and bland! Very disappointing for the price they charge!

We had a failed booking at a pub up the road so called The Black Boy and fortunately got a reservation. We arrived and learned that we’d actually called The Black Boy in Solihull 🤦🏼‍♂️ The staff could not have been more helpful - sat us at a table by the fire, got us drinks, and promised to make arrangements to squeeze us in. We had 3 courses - all delicious! The service was friendly and attentive - we could not have felt more comfortable. Whilst it was lovely in front of the fire, we can’t wait to return in the summer to experience dinner on the lawn with the fantastic views! Thank you for a lovely evening.

Me and my husband came here when we stayed in Buckinghamshire. We had a lovely meal here and brought our springer spaniel. It is a very traditional pub. Lovely scenery. The staff were so lovely and accommodating. The roll the dice game was fun too! Shame we didn’t get the lucky number, however to food was worth every penny qnd our dog lovers his meal too!

Sunday lunch not very hot. Hard potatoes. Shrivelled veg. Only two small slices of meat. Waited hour and 15mins for main. Staff friendly

We went for an early evening meal and was really impressed with the food quality 👌🏽 Service was friendly, the atmosphere for early Tuesday evening wasn't too bad. But the food was great, one of the best homemade burgers 🍔 😋 I've had 🙂

A visit for a special birthday meal. A lovely pub and great atmosphere. If I complain about anything the initial service was slow and our drinks order was completely wrong. Barmaid was young and very embarrassed. Food ordered was prompt, well presented and cooked extremely well. Good value and I look forward to returning so we can observe the wonderful views from the restaurant

The staff are friendly enough, but the service is incredibly slow. Tables left with food on, no cutlery. We didn’t turn up at a busy time, 5:15pm, but 10yr old left waiting for 90 mins after ordering is too much. Can only suggest avoiding.

A hidden gem! We found this pub via a random search. We decided to have a bunch of the nibbles to graze on. All really great, apart for the doughballs that weren’t as interesting. Nice Tring brewery ales on tap and a great location with views of the surrounding countryside.

Food was OK, not as delicious as I was hoping for. Service was incredibly slow from the kitchen although the floor staff were great. It wasn't overly busy either so I'd avoid peak times

Popped in here just for a drink one afternoon, a pretty pub in an idyllic location boasting great views. And the lagers were cold and delicious. What more do you want?

Went with a friend for lunch. I had ham eggs and chips followed by mini apple crumble with cream and a cappuccino. Friend had fish and chips, mini brownie & cappuccino. Prices are reasonable. Would highly recommend it. Staff are very helpful and polite, and there is a relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely go back.

Dropped in here for a late lunch on a weekday. My friend has visited before & reccommended it. The car park is fairly small but we managed to squeeze in. There is parking in the village but I suspect it could be difficult at weekends. The pub has a very attractive exterior & is next to the church thus presenting a very quintessentially country pub image. Inside it is very cosy & not over modernised. There is a paved terrace immediately outside the back commanding fantastic views far into the surrounding countryside. Steps take you down to a sloping lawn & garden with more tables & chairs. Staff were extremely friendly & attentive. I only had soup ; very flavoursome tomato & basil, adapted to be vegan. My friend had a main meal. I would say that the food took a fairly long time to arrive considering that the pub was not hugely busy but it was freshly cooked & not a problem for us on this occasion. Would certainly visit again.

Had a lovely night with great service and delicious food. Went for the pork belly from the daily a la carte menu and every mouthful was wonderful. Crunchy crackling, tender pork and the best mash ever!! Compliments to the chef :-)

We stumbled across this place when out for a drive near Aylesbury. I’m glad we did. We sat in the garden and shared a freshly cooked home made style pizza for a light lunch. It was really nice. One each would have been too much for us. Really nice ale on tap. We sat in the garden with our dog. Very pleasant. Great staff

We didn't book in advance and sadly Pub was fully booked. However, lovely Pub manager managed to squeeze us in and we had amazing food and kids had blast running around. I like this place

Booked a table for 4 adults took awhile for drinks order so ordered starters and main meals starters arrived about 30 mins later after that waited about 1 1/2 hrs before getting main meal after speaking to waitress and the manager it was simple door 3 fish and chips and on gammon the gammon was almost rare in the middle so had to speak to the manager who was very helpful First time such a bad experience had another meal booked this week but going to cancel it after today 😡

Just got back from visiting this pub and had to write this review to vent our severe dissatisfaction. I hate writing poor reviews and always take time to praise great places and customer service. We have visited this pub a number of times over the past several years. The last time was a couple of years ago when we left disappointed due to the poor service time. The food standard then was good. Fast forward to today where we decided to re-visit this pub after a lovely family day out on a Saturday and booked ahead with the hope of service improvement. What a total disappointment in many areas. After nearly 20mins of being shown to our table there was no sign of menus. Going inside and requested them I was told, after an apology, that yes this had been forgotten. Once the drink order had arrived we asked if we could order at the same time. We were told yes but then the waiter disappeared - (please note reader that the pub was not packed). When we finally got to order, the painful process began again of the “wait”. How silly were we to believe that after 2 years this may have possibly improved…no it had not! After a painful wait for starters we eagerly waited for our mains, and waited and waited and waited…… The pie of the day was a severe disappointment. The meat was chewy. The flaky pastry which is supposed to be served risen with a cooked complexion was as flat as a pancake and a half cooked appearance. As I type, the pastry is sitting heavy in my stomach. The portion sizes of all our main courses were small. We decided not to order puddings as we really could not tolerate more waiting time. We left still hungry and severely disappointed. Upon leaving the pub at point of paying the bill (which by the way we asked for twice as the first waiter forgot to bring) we were asked if everything was ok and when we replied “not really” there was no follow up of asking the reasons why or how the situation could be resolved etc. In conclusion, this pub has really dropped in standards, notably waiting time for food, standard of food and portion sizes. If however you want to go just for a drink, where you order in person at the bar and then walk into the garden without wanting to eat, then this pub offers a good pint and beautiful garden views. Ps. Though we had petite sized ladies in our party, both stated the ladies toilets were very cramped, so do note this if you require space for wheelchairs etc.

Ambience was absolutely fine. Unfortunately, the waitress said she would bring us menus and after 25 minutes I had to ask for one at the bar starters came after a bit of a wait. Whitebait was ok but nachos were from a packet. Then we had to wait for 40 mins for mains. This was ok but very very greasy. A little dispatch as we've always had good experiences here. Staff were young and new so we tried to be patient as they have to to learn the menu and the drinks available. It was busy but we had booked for 7.15 and didn't get mains until 8.45pm. I will go back but not for a long while .

Had drinks on a hot evening at this stunning pub. Slow service at the bar, no one came and asked if we wanted any more drinks whilst sitting in the garden. Pub and view 10/10. Staff experience disappointing.

Lunch with the family for my wife's "Big Birthday" Food, drinks (particularly the Waddesdon Sauvignon Blanc) and service all excellent. A very warm welcome from Vicky and the whole team. One small bit of feedback, with such an excellent view here, the one window could do with a good clean! Overall a great experience: we will be back

Great spot . Fantastic gardens and superb food. My wife's friend lives in the village is how we knew it was there. Took friends for Sunday lunch.

From the facade you would never guess, inside and the garden is lovely. This place is a gem. View from the garden is beautiful with nice seating. Staff was so friendly and welcoming. My dog was more than welcome and I even noticed a keg of dog water and bowls available. We didn't eat as it was a weekday and kitchen closed at 3pm just before we got there, so we had a couple beers and planned to be back to eat soon.

Lovely old, atmospheric pub. Attentive staff but the food was a bit average. Too much chilli jam made my calzone too sweet, my wife's walnut tagliatelle was luke warm, a bit bland and had a hair in it. Would definitely go again but this was an off day for the kitchen.

Was left disappointed following my visit today. I waited 25 minutes for my starter a soup, and a further 30 minutes for my main course. This was Roast Pork, and although tasty was very meagre. Nobody asked did I need another drink, I managed to catch somebody’s eye. Wasn’t asked did I want a pudding. Waited ages to pay. Just feel underwhelmed.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here today. The staff were lovely and very welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, I had the lamb and my husband had the trio of meats. All the accompaniments with the roast were lovely including cauliflower cheese and a squash puree. The lamb was absolutely delicious, my husband said it was the best lamb he has ever had anywhere, and he is fussy so that is a very good sign 😃. We will definitely be back again 😋

We went to the bar to get drinks and received a very sharp and abrupt welcome. The lady serving appeared to be a manager. I asked politely for a pimms but the response I got was as if it was too much effort to make it as there wasn’t some already made up. So I didn’t end up ordering a pimms as I felt very uncomfortable. Not in any rush to go back.

I am severely dissapointed with my meal here, food took over an hour and a half to come out, atmosphere was very loud and hard to hear people next to me. Food got mixed up by waitresses and ended up with wrong meal. Severely dissapointed considering I had heard good things from other people

Spent a really enjoyable few hours at the black boy for Mother’s Day. There was a lovely atmosphere, lots of laughter and very Friendly staff nothing was too much trouble for them. We had 3 courses and each one was delicious, especially the chocolate delise. I would definitely recommend this lovely old pub for the lovely atmosphere . the fantastic food and friendly helpful staff.

Roast dinner was yummy, and the wine we chose was a local one which I would absolutely go for again. The whitebait starter was pleasant, but perhaps as the fish themselves were larger than I have had before, they were a little less flavourful than I'd have preferred, but the accompanying sauce made up for it ☺️ Coffee to finish was delicious. Service was great; attentive waiting staff took care of all we needed, and the place itself is beautiful with stunning views of the local countryside.

Had Sunday lunch today. Generally positive, it is a lovely place with a well stocked bar. However, standing room only while we were waiting to be seated. Terrific starters, whitebait, pork medallions and hummus. Main course roast a bit disappointing, potatoes could have done with another 10 minutes and weren't crispy and I almost asked for a steak knife to tackle the roast beef - it tasted good but the texture was a bit rubbery. Portion sizes were generous. Also, none of our meals could have been described as piping hot. Service was good. Perhaps they are simply trying to cater for too many people, it is certainly a popular venue.

We went on a night when they were short staffed. Steak was great, pie was quite dry and the ham was disappointing, expected nice thick carved ham, looked more like out of a packet. The lad serving us was out standing, spent his whole evening apologizing to one table or another, couldn't have worked any harder.

We were really looking forward to returning to the Black Boy after quite some time, but unfortunately the experience was not very good. The food was a massive disappointment, the starter was minimal for the price and the main course was even worse as the potatoes were uncooked and inedible. The whole meal was like nouvelle cuisine and both my wife and I left still hungry. It will be a long time before we consider going back . Such a shame ..

Locally sourced food. Free range eggs. Proper ONE TIME COOKED CHIPS,(None of this three times reheated from last night rubbish) nor frozen, but thick cut proper chips. Staff friendly and chatty. Very dog friendly. Wish it was in walking distance not a 15 min drive. A very clean and cozy country pub.
