Ordered the Kotthu - Roast Chicken on Deliveroo and this is the worst portion I have seen in my life. It is like kid's meal and the taste is just... salty but bland at the same time? The only good part of it was the egg.

From the warm greeting to the spacious dining, our visit to the Coconut Tree was a joy. There was enough variety on the menu to please the carnivores and vegans in our party. All dishes were delicious and we will visit again!

Food was too Salty , most restaurants provide sides that go along with dish. Would have tasted ok with lesser salt and accompaniments. Packing was good. Quantity a bit too less for the price paid.

I had the worst Sri Lankan food I have ever had. I ordered egg Kottu Rotti, and it was simply horrendous! It was oily, with no real flavour. The egg was fried separately and just left on top of the he kottu rotti, which is not the real thing. It was just a waste of money and time.

We had a lovely family lunch here. Sithira & Hasitha were friendly and very helpful. Great to have a family-friendly Sri Lankan restaurant in town.

Sensational Sri Lankan food with beautiful vegan options. It's tapas style so you order lots of little plates. I had a creamy cashew curry with sambal and a fiery and flavorful mango curry. Skin was a tad tough but otherwise delicious.

We came to celebrate a birthday. Our waiter, Keyo, was extremely polite and helpful recommendations as we experienced this restaurant for the first time. The menu is varied, and they were extremely accommodating for specific allery requirements. The atmosphere was great, staff were helpful and the food was delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

Everything has so much flavour you are spoiled! So many flavours you could not get bored!

Rubbish for allergies. Extremely overpriced. Not accessible for those who can't manage stairs. More staff than customers. Staff were overbearing and didn't speak English well enough to get the order right.

The menu offers a great variety of cocktails, and the service was impeccable. I also learned that they are introducing many new dishes with a significant update to the menu. I’m definitely looking forward to returning to try them. It’s well worth the price, and if you're looking for a place that combines delicious food and great cocktails, this is the spot!

I had an amazing experience at The Coconut Tree in Reading! The Sri Lankan food was absolutely delicious, full of authentic flavors, and the Sri Lankan cocktails were fantastic. I tried the Pasan cocktail, and it was exceptional—highly recommended! Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and a unique dining experience. I’ll definitely be coming back!

We go every year for our team night out, someone always says "when will they take our order" or "whys the food taking so long", it's true sometimes it takes a while for the order to be taken and the food to arrive, (it actually mentions that on the menu) but I always say , tell me at the end if it was worth the wait, and it's always a unanimous yes. Hence we go back the next year. One of the best food joints in Reading.

Visited this restaurant and while there were some highlights, a few things really stood out as disappointing. Drinks: We ordered drinks first, and while they came out quickly, the service was less than professional. The waiter handed over the drinks carelessly, spilling some in the process and leaving the table and menus messy. Instead of cleaning it up, he just walked off, leaving us to grab tissues and sort it ourselves. Additionally, when serving drinks, please don’t grab the glass from the top—no one wants fingers near the rim of their drink. It’s unhygienic and unappealing. Food: The food itself was great. It was my first time trying this cuisine, and I was impressed with the flavors. While the portions were on the smaller side, the pricing for the food was okay—so it balanced out. That said, I couldn’t help but feel the prices on some items were unjustified. £4 for a single, tiny roti? Come on. That’s a rip-off. On top of that, I was surprised by the lack of attention to detail. When my food arrived, I asked for a fresh chilli, and the waiter simply said “No.” This was odd, considering my friend’s dish, right in front of me, had fresh chilli in it. It felt like the waiter couldn’t be bothered to accommodate a simple request. Drinks Pricing: While the food was reasonably priced (roti aside), the drink prices were shocking. £4 for a fizzy drink is excessive—easily the most I’ve ever paid for something so basic. Overall: The food was tasty, and I enjoyed trying something new. However, the service needs serious improvement, especially when it comes to professionalism and attention to customer needs. Drinks and roti pricing were definite downsides. With a few adjustments, this place could be great

Warm welcome by Waylen. Service was prompt and on asking for suggestions was well advised. No bottled water plenty of tap water. Food was spicy.. thankfully was steered clear of the ‘chicken on the bone’ which apparently is super hot! The alcoholic mojito and non alcoholic were both great. Atmosphere is active. Be warned the dishes are very spicy but flavourful.

For the size of the portions, it’s very overpriced! The goat curry wasn’t properly cooked. The chicken on the bone curry was just ONE drumstick and the cocktail was basically juice. I definitely don’t recommend!

Food quantity is very less for the prices. Drinks served with dry fruits eg. Passion fruit drinks were served with dry passion fruit. Don’t recommend.

We had a brilliant time at the restaurant for our work Christmas party. They venue was accommodating for dietary requirements, very relaxed about the booking and pre ordering process, even for a large group. A very enjoyable experience and I will be returning!

The cocktails are super overpriced, and for the price I paid, I was expecting at least a nice drink. After waiting for about 15-20 mins, I got a tiny glass of liquid (which I was not sure what was in it) with a huge ice cube. When I complained that this is not really what I ordered, they gave me a lollipop and said: 'ah we forgot to add this'. I wish at least the drink tasted nice, but it was very disappointing, and this was their "award winning" cocktail apparently!

Such a disappointing experience. Table booked for 6pm. Drinks took forever to arrive but even worse was the wait for the food. We had to ask a couple of times, especially when larger parties that arrived long after us had been served. Eventually, a few dishes arrived, but then we had to ask again for the rest that went with it such as rice, by the time these arrived the first lot of food was cold. We raised this with the waitress who was quite confrontational and said they had done the best they can and nothing else they can do. We spoke to the manager later on, didn't seem to care about our experience and no offer to discount the bill due to our awful experience. Will not return due to the way they dealt with the issues.

I almost don’t want to write this because it’s my favourite place to eat in Reading and I don’t want to share! The taste & flavors are outstanding along with the price!

Very nice lovely bar serving up authentic Sri Lankan food. Some beers where not available when we visited which was a shame as I would've liked a Sri Lankan beer. Food is good and has plenty of flavours, portion sizes are good, we were advised to order 3 dishes each bit that was too much food for me. Staff are friendly and polite

First, but not last, visit to the coconut tree. Absolutely DELICIOUS food. So much gluten free gorgeousness. Try the cashew nut curry, it's sublime. Thank you to Waylon for running across the road with my coat 😍 will definitely be back, thank you. The musician was brilliant too!

A welcoming and spacious Sri Lankan themed restaurant which is good value and caters for gluten free and vegan diets. The staff were welcoming and my friend enjoyed his peppered pork coconut curry while I enjoyed a mix of vegan fried rice with veggies and chilli, juicy beetroot baduma and succulent coconut sambol (since I didn’t feel like a rich, creamy meal which you could also have, maybe next time) all washed down with Tiger Beer (Red Stripe also available). I would definitely return here.

Some of the best food and certainly by far the best value of any restaurant I visited, there is a great variety of interesting food and drink in a charming atmosphere with excellent service. Definitely start with a coconut crêpe "hopper" for yourself, with the egg and condiments on top you will not want to share. Be open to adventure, most of the dishes I had not heard of, and there are quirks like the sticky rice being served ground in a cube, rather than as individual grains. But you'll be richly rewarded, the kottu in particular has a swirl of textures, flavors, and spice. The fried chili paste is spectacular, if you can handle some additional heat above the already decently chili-laden food. And the cocktails put most "craft" cocktails to shame. Showing off the best of tropical fruit and interesting contrasts of tart and sweet, they're also very reasonably priced, especially if you get a pair. Wow!

Loved the food had been longing for hoppers for long now. Everyrhing we ordered was just delicious and the staff were really sweet and helpful. Good cocktails as well. Portions are small but not going to complain since we were stuffed ! Music selection too was nice while we were there. Its expensive we paid quite a lot for 2 people.

Having been to Sri Lanka I would say that the food we had was pretty much spot on for the real thing. It scratched that itch we had for Sri Lankan food. Whilst it's not cheap, not like Sri Lanka itself, it's not overly expensive either. If you get between 3 - 4 dishes each, you will have more than enough food and, with a drink or two, you're looking at spending around £35 - £40 each. The staff were friendly & helpful without being too in your face. The music was at the right level. We went really early in the evening, 17:30, so it was quiet but it will starting to fill up by the time we left (and that was a Tuesday evening). We liked the enjoy the food, and the ambience so we'll definitely come back.

Amazing atmosphere and service. Was let down a bit with the cocktails as there wasn't enuf liquor in them and was too sweet. Food was good but there definitely can be some more improvement. Since we are veg and we had only starters we felt there could be some more spice added(or could be asked to the customers if needed) also the spices felt a bit burnt while preparing the potatoes. It was good but not great. Just had another meal today and this is my feedback. The service was as average today. Got plates that had their skin peeled off and wasn't keen on eating on them but continued to do so. Would suggest that the staff look into them. Food wise the pumpkin dish(fat sister) had the skin on and that made it a bit unappetizing and some people can't digest the skin so would suggest to look into it. The other items like the 5c, chickpeas were wonderful as usual. The basmati rice was ok. The raspberry mojito(virgin) was ok too.

A Sri Lankan restaurant in Reading town centre, most of the dishes were delicious especially the prawn fried rice, prawn gravy, chicken wings and the chilli chutney they gave on the house. The hoppers were not that great, it was a bit of disappointment. The jackfruit kothu only had lots of vegetables, and I wasn't able to enjoy it much. The prices were expensive for the portion they served. The portions were a small amount and was not enough to share between two people. The tables were available when we went but it's better to check before you arrive.

The service wasn’t very good barring one member of staff (With nose ring). Our food order was Delayed, I’m sure it was forgotten as they had to ask us again what we had ordered. Once arrived the chicken curry was very watery and the paratha was cold. Would not recommend.

A Sri Lankan cuisine restaurant. Good place if you wish to try out South Asian dishes and something different from usual. Ambience is good. Food and cocktails are average. Only concern I would have is with the portion sizes.

Went here with some friends and the food was so good. I had the vegan kotthu. We also ordered the Dahl chickpeas and kale and radish sambol. It was absolutely delicious and all of these dishes were vegan as well. I also had the flaming cinnamon and citrus drink. Which they literally set on fire! The staff were so lovely and did a great job

Today was our first visit to The Coconut Tree, wow! The food was delicious and cooked freshly in the open style kitchen just feet away from us. We chose the "I can't decide" menu option as we couldn't decide...it all looked fantastic. We were not disappointed, our server asked us for some picks and she chose the rest for us. Every single dish hit the spot. Goat curry, blackened pork, calamari. It was all amazing. The whole vibe of the restaurant was great, would highly recommend anyone who likes or would like to try Sri Lankan food to go here. We will be returning once my food coma ends!

This is my 3rd time here, and I can’t be more happy to have this lovely and delicious restaurant in Reading , a friend recommended it to me and now is my favourite Sri Lankan restaurant. This restaurant is like a Spanish tapas bar , so you chose your favourite dishes and have little bits of everything, I have so far tasted all dishes and I can’t get over it! Cocktails feels like they are soft and fresh but after few minutes they kick your a$$ 🤣 They are absolutely delicious too! Plus music is just so cool!! 100%

Excellent food. We ordered 3-4 dishes each, all of which were very flavoursome (be careful how spicy you ask it to be). Very reasonably priced too. Highly recommend, will definitely be going back.

I rarely give negative reviews, but this restaurant left me with no choice. The portions were disappointingly small, especially considering the £10 price for kothu porottas. Taste-wise, it didn't live up to expectations. The seating was equally subpar – uncomfortable benches with no back support and cushions that constantly slipped. Despite booking in advance, our sunny window seat turned into a headache due to the lack of blinds. Either the food, service, or seating should excel, but unfortunately, none did. On a positive note, our waiter provided good service amidst the overall letdown.

Maybe just… don’t go on a Monday! This came recommended. And as I was in Reading and needed a spot for lunch, I gave it a try. The staff were friendly and welcoming. They were also wearing coats - the place was freezing. We were one of only two tables (someone else came in, but left when finding it was card payments only) - and were sat on adjacent tables. We tried the lunch menu, to sample a range of options. The hoppers were tasty but fridge cold (although could have just been the room temperature!). The Pandan rice had no flavour, and was hard and clumped - not the fragrant fluffy side expected. The pumpkin in the curry (or perhaps butternut squash?) was cooked in large chunks with the hard rind left on, making it hard to cut / manoeuvre in the little dishes. Some things were delicious - including the sambals and iced teas. But if you fail on rice - it’s a no from me.

Great bar with with fantastic food, brilliant staff that are extremely friendly and make you feel welcome. Highly recommended Find Dinesh is king of this place.

Disappointing food. Ordered 4-5 veg dishes, didn't like any. Food was not seasoned well and wasn't at all packed with flavours. If you are a vegetarian, you could easily skip this one. I can't say about the non veg food though

This bustling restaurant may require reservations. The standout Sriki Tiki drink features a flaming sugar cube with cinnamon. The lamb cutlet is crispy and spicy, with an unusual but tasty sauce. Avoid the salty, paste-like 'stinky rice'. The chicken curry is very spicy and different from Indian curry, while the shrimp curry is excellent. Friendly service, although they forgot one dish.

Never fails to disappoint. A good selection of tasty well-cooked food (goat curry is superb, and off the bone) and drinks including draught beer. Friendly and patient waiting staff. Toilets also in good clean order (which is a good marker for the general hygiene of a place). Music not too intrusive either. A great place for mates, dates or work meets

It was my first time eating Sri Lankan and it was completely different to what I’ve eaten before. Great costumer service, we were specifically served by Chetan. Definitely worth it to try!

The food was a lot spicier than the menu suggested. Lightly spiced Sri-tatoes were like fireballs. And the bone on chicken was literally one drumstick in a hot curry sauce for £7 so a bit of a rip off and quite insulting to serve. For £59 for two people, your better off ordering a good Chinese or Indian for half that and it will taste better!

Great food and especially good service. Our waiter, Chethan, explained how the menu worked and recommended cocktails and checked that we were happy with things as we went through the courses.
