Market house food and rooftop bar in Reading

Unbelievable; Tonight, they showed the Arsenal PSG game on all the TVs, we sat watching the game upstairs, chilled and having a good time. Against the run of play, Arsenal scored and we celebrated the goal. Bar tender came over and chastised us saying "keep it down, this is not a sports bar". A few minutes later, another chance and the same bar tender came over to "tell us off", at which point I told him "if you're going to show the football, don't get annoyed if people are excited by the football", at which point he told us all to leave!!!! I have never been asked to leave a bar/pub/restaurant IN MY LIFE, this is a ridiculous way to treat customers.

really enjoyed the evening there, dj was great and the shuffleboard was good fun.

My Daughter and her Husband chose Market House for their wedding reception. The atmosphere was relaxed and the wedding not at all formal. All who attended ( about 50 people) had a fantastic day on the Third Floor roof Terrace. Makana who managed the event worked tirelessly to ensure that the day went well and without any issues. On the day she was lovely to deal with and nothing was too much trouble. Both Makana and the staff who worked on the event deserve a great deal of credit for the way it ran. Thank you all x KD

Had a fun evening, playing on the shuffleboard and drinking shots. Kasia kept us having loads of laughs. We will be back - Slainte!

Had the best time at Market House. Came with a group of friends. Good atmosphere and lovely friendly staff. Enjoyed the shuffleboard and karaoke room. Will definitely be returning again soon !!!!!

Reserved the karaoke shack for a get together with my friends and we all had a ton of fun! The shack was cosy, private and the decor was aesthetically pleasing. The karaoke machine had a wide range of songs to search and select from. Highly recommend for a fun get together activity! Although I think the little window would do with a little blind or a curtain and it'd be great if there was an option to have more than 2 microphones but overall an amazing experience!

Had my dreaded 50th here in early March. Booking online was easy and great comms. Tables all reserved as expected. It would have been good to get the heads up that the games get booked up but we managed to get a couple of shuffleboard bookings. Pizza was okay and great atmosphere.. thanks

Great bar in Reading centre. Been a fair few times. Always excellent vibes with a great selection of drinks. Had their pizzas a few times and they're delicious, and great value for money. Well maintained shuffleboard, dartboard and take tennis table, which are easy to book. Always love it here.

Went on a Friday evening for some food and gathering with friends. Pizzas were nice, although took a while to get to us and not as hot as expected. Good range of drinks. Staff members were all nice, aiming to be very efficient to serve all customers. Not able to use QR code though. Atmosphere is nice as something for everyone I suppose but music way too loud when actually everyone is sat down and talking (well yelling) with each other. Facilities- not a fan of toilet paper on the floor...

My friend and I popped in to check the place out and found a pleasant surprise in the heart of Reading. Drinks were spot on and our pizza was very good, nice and hot, and very prompt even though the place was busy which created an enjoyably lively and cheerful atmosphere. The blonde Polish woman who looked after us was friendly and attentive and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely return.

We really enjoyed our time doing karaoke here - would highly recommend! The karaoke booth is decorated beautifully and we love the entire venue. The team is super nice and flexible too, and they make fantastic cocktails! We’d love to come back :)

It's hard to know how to condense what I want to say about this place and all of its staff... I organised a 2 day event here, with the help of Makana and Olivia. Around 40 people with 15 needing rooms. The team were flawless, friendly, professional and beyond helpful. Once at the venue I was in awe. The website and photos don't truly capture the size or more importantly, the vibe. It was closed and empty when I arrived (apart from staff setting up) but the lights were on and music playing and immediately the anxiety I'd had as the even organiser evaporated, being replaced with a building excitement for the days to come. Every single one of my attendees commented on how spectacular the rooms were, how good the food was, how smoothly the events ran. Shout out to Rich, Kasha and Ben behind the bar for keeping us going with our food and drinks, making my expenses easy to pay and file. Huge thanks to Olivia for being on site and on hand at all times, so often not the case with event managers! Will definitely be back again some time!

I stayed at the Market House Hotel for one night in December and everything was as expected and nice. The reason I wanted to write this review is because of how impressed I was with the customer service I received from Market House, when a small incident (out of anyone's control) caused an issue with my stay. The team on site were lovely and management were extremely forth coming to compensate me for the issue, even though I was a new customer and not a regular. One person I want to mention specifically is ANDREA who deserves a medal and a pay rise because she spent countless hours of her time assisting me liase with the third party I used to book the stay and she was efficient, friendly and communicative. She is the main reason I can imagine myself returning to Market House for a dinner or stay if I am back in Reading, because she and her team have left me very impressed with the customer service I received. Friendly service at an affordable price

A really fun place to hang out. Plenty of things to do with friends like the darts and table shuffleboard - just make sure you book as it was very busy!

Brilliant little place to stay, very beautifully designed rooms and lots of cute finishing touches. Great bar to spend the evening in too. Noisy until 11pm but after then quiet and no problems sleeping. Will definitely stay again!

My place to go when I need to stay a night in Reading As a foreigner, I do fancy the beers but not the breakfast. Good thing it is not included. Next door is a Tesco supermarket where you can get croissants and such. Coffee/ tea on the opposite side of the square. Bed is very nice, room big and quiet enough, showering is a treat.

Booked a group meal for Christmas for 6 people, and the whole experience was a let down. Firstly they didn't offer the Xmas menu on Fri/Sat, then the booking link was poorly designed and didn't have starters or puddings, then when asking if I could add these, our booking manager reiterate that we only had the table for so long, making us feel like an inconvenience. On the day, the welcome was far from warm with no reception area for food bookings. Our table was in the bar area, not the upstairs dining area, so too noisy and crowded, and by the freezing draft of an open door (being a December evening) with no option to move us when requested and a very blunt response. Our food delivery timing was fixed, so god help you if you're running slightly late - and our Luke warm plastic baskets of 'food' were thrown down by bored staff. No one asked if we needed anything else (sauces etc) and they never came back to check on the food. Also, the 'order at table' option was not available with no explanation from staff when we asked why. The entire experience was so poor! Wont be returning and would recommend the place is avoided at all costs, until they get more staff or some clue as to how to treat patrons.

Very loud, 1/10 if you want to go have a chat and a drink with someone on a weekend. Beer was great, though!

I had a brilliant time at the market house! What it made special was the service I Received with their manager. Unfortunately, I never asked her name but she had short blond hair and she was just very kind and full of character on her service! Had a great relaxing and exciting time! Definitely come to you again for a good night out and drinks with a great hostess! Thank you so much! They also make pizza by hand!

Market House has become my go to place. Always served quickly by friendly staff. Have only eaten there once and will definitely be back for food

Do a monthly comedy night which is brilliant plus darts and shuffleboard are great to play in a fantastic atmosphere. Food’s pretty good too!

Everything feels sticky and dirty, no lift although it likes they are doing some work in the place, the stairs are very dark no good for anyone with walking problems, the walls are peeling and very dirty, the noise levels are bad, the entrance is surrounded by rubbish, but the room was very clean which is the only reason we stayed. Not recommend

Not for me! It is loud even when not particularly busy but they are now trying to encourage people in with Darts, shuffleboard, table tennis etc. Drinks were very expensive such that we left and went to a restaurant saving £1.50 each pint! Still, I expect people who choose to live in towns and prefer the bustle will approve.

First, the bad: one beer and one cider on tap, and only three beers in bottle. Not sure if this is normal. Friendly staff, I highly recommend the fried chicken "burger", and if the weather is nice, really great place to enjoy the afternoon.

Quirky but expensive. Door staff friendlier than bar staff. Was a little ‘meh’.

Market place Restaurant and Club had great food, service and company. I know it sounds simple but I have never had better Nachos and cheese. Service was exceptional. Great company and Great atmosphere.

This venue keeps improving- shuffl boards, ping pong and screens with a large and well stocked bar (inc. Draught). Warehouse type feel.

Eaten here on various occasions and brilliant pizza!! Great atmosphere and friendly service!

The table tennis addition is great

Plenty of space, good service and beer, and we played some table tennis. What else could you want!

This is one of my favourite places in Reading. A hip, casual but grown up bar has plenty of seating, good food and brilliant atmosphere. There's always something great going on.

we ordered the chicken wings which were horrific, clearly just frozen wings thrown in the oven with a light pasting of sauce of some of them. The nachos were not as horrific, but not great. Not sure if the Cheese was cheese even.. As for the ambiance, we went on a Wednesday and could barely hear ourselves speak of the drunken shouting. Overall very disappointed.

I recently went here for our company's summer party. It's a great venue with shuffle boards and table tennis. Would definitely go back again.

Used to be a bank. Now a trendy wine bar. Fair selection of beverages and reasonable prices. Lovely staff. Has shuffleboard tables, which makes for a change.

Great find of a bar, beer was good and the food tasty. The staff were very friendly also.

Went to a Monday night rooftop cinema showing of Elvis. Was really well done with popcorn (although we didn't get any as they didn't do enough for all the tickets sold), and the sound and picture quality were great for an open space. You can order pizzas and food to eat while watching and the bar was manned throughout which was handy. They were even happy to make pots of tea. The bar itself is also fab, lots of events on throughout the week. On a quieter night they have bar games and board games to keep you occupied, and the food from the kitchen is fresh and reasonably priced.

Fantastic place for any party or a Business meeting like ours! It was great. Thank you. Will definitely come back soon 🤗

There are some nice looking food places inside, its almost like a box park in feeling, drinks are fairly priced, it also has a cool rooftop bar. This does get busy but its really cool!
