After having take-away from here a few times (and a little while ago), the opportunity came up to dine in and I was keen to try it out. We arrived early and it turns out sat next to the owner, who was very friendly and we ended up eating her recommendations. We had water boiled pork (excellent - some really deep and complex flavours going on), sweet and sour aubergine (delicious), cumin lamb (also delicious) and the deep-fried snow white mushrooms (delicious also - you get the point). They also had a significantly better beer selection than the pub down the road, we enjoyed a couple of pints of the new beer from Double Barreled. Can't wait to go back.

Overcharged us and thought we didn’t realise. Gave us dirty glasses that he (specifically) charged us for. Food was not as described. If possible, I would leave 0 stars rating. They also kept running in and out of their 2 shops and taking food in and out, which is a health and safety hazard.

The food was delicious, but the experience was soured by the behavior of the owner, who was rude and domineering. We witnessed her publicly berate and embarrass her staff over minor mistakes, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere for everyone around. She barely acknowledged customers waiting to be seated, curtly calling out “3 people” and ordering her staff to prepare a table before walking away. This, combined with a service charge after an error in our order—one she blamed on us while scolding her staff—ensures we won’t be returning. On a positive note, the man behind the bar was kind, handling our bill with professionalism and apologising on her behalf. The owner is sat on a gold mine but she needs to sort her behaviour out and learn some manners. I hope she reads this and turns herself into a better person.

Where to start. My husband has already written a review but i really feel I need to back him up with this. We only get 1 night a week together due to work commitments and always try to go out to new places for food. We have driven past a lot and decided last night was the night to attend. Worse mistake. We were given a table and left to look at the meal (all normal at this point) a young gentleman came to take our drinks order and after I ordered my drink, my husband said to the server that he had a red bull in his pocket if its OK to drink in here, he pulled it out of his pocket to show him and the serve says "yes thats fine and just to confirm 1 coke" I then received my drink and nothing was mentioned about just the 1 drink. After waiting 20 minutes to be served, we flagged a server down and he was great and went through the options with my husband to what he could have and also showed me another option as I just wanted the chicken and sweetcorn soup but on the main menu it was a shareable bowl. Also at this point the red bull was on the table fully visible. We started to receive the food at all different times however there was a big party in so this was fine we didn't mind waiting. The lady came over and just pointed at the table, she was carry rice so I mention o i am waiting for rice thinking this is what she meant. However she just shouted and said no outside drinks and pointed at the menu to say its printed on here no outside drinks. We apologised and said we did check with the waiter and she just got more and more angry. we said what would you like us to do, we can throw away if you want but she just walked off. The server also then lied and said we never showed him however multiple people attended our table and didn't say anything. He seemed very young and maybe new to the role and we understand this can be hard to admit when wrong, we have all been there. Every time she walked past us she made a point of no outside drinks, my husband then said what would you like us to do, and said the way you are speaking if really disrespectful can you please just explain what can be done. But no she just got worse and worse to the point after 2 mouthfuls of my food I stood up and said nope we are not excepting this. She was shouting at us across the restaurant in front of all the guests making us look to be the worse people in the world. This went on for about 20 minutes, this was because she said she called the police so we didn't want to leave and cause more problems for ourselves. Myself and husband both apologised multiple times to the other guests and wished them a good evening. We ended up just not answering her anymore as you couldn't possibly get a word in and just made it worse so dealt with 2 other staff members who unfortunately had to deal with the after affect. It was obvious the police were not called and we came to an agreement with the 2 staff members that we would happily pay for what we had but would not be paying the full meal as we have not been able to eat it in peace. After reading through the comments on here you can see we are not the only people to have an issue with this woman. She is truly a disgrace and should not be in this industry with her attitude. We could have just walked out and not paid but thats not who we are, state why we paid for what we had. I would highly recommend you avoid this restaurant or even just avoid when she is working.

I have been living near this restaurant for nearly 3 years. I have very good friends from Thailand Hong Kong Malaysia Philippines. I have eaten food all over the world in 1000s of different restaurants. So tonight I decided to try this local Chinese restaurant I have been passing for work a long time, debating to go in. I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A WORSE RESTAURANT IN MY LIFE ! They have a female manager that has zero business running a restaurant. she is an embarrassment to the trade. She thought it was acceptable to raise her voice at me in front of a full restaurant of people. If you were thinking of going here I would choose literally any other place in Reading. I left a £50 full table of food practically untouched paying for what I did eat on my exit. worst £18 bill I ever payed. What an embarrassment ! do not ever eat here it should be closed down. Disgrace

KungFu Kitchen is by far the best Chinese Restaurant in Reading. I've tried lots of food from different Chinese restaurants but this is the best in terms of quality of ingredients, quantity taste, and presentation. And the extra attention to detail for every single order I've placed because i have lots of allergies and dletary requirements. Their black bean sauce it very authentic and sweet and sour sauce too . They never disappoint.

I was thoroughly pleased with my experience here. A truly authentic Cantonese dining experience which is rare or butchered at most places; Kung Fu Kitchen excels with both cuisine and atmosphere. Our waitress was lovely, and the host was incredibly welcoming and charismatic - throughly entertaining, knowledgeable, and fill of good tips and tidbits. I had spring rolls, crispy squid, and black bean beef with crispy noodles; all of which were delectable. I will be returning time and time again.

So pleased we finally managed to visit this authentic and tasty Chinese restaurant which caters extremely well for gluten free and vegan diets. It was bustling on a Saturday night but the staff were efficient and friendly. My wife loved the gluten free chicken sweet & sour and I’d like to try the vegan version next time but enjoyed my spicy home fried tofu plus a shared seasonal veg, all washed down with local Loddon beer with gluten free options. The full meal with drinks worked out about £25/head including the service charge that I was happy to pay. Overall a must visit for anyone in the area

My wife called this place on the off chance when our usual local was closed and WOW, we are never turning back now. When my wife gave our order the lady said(very nicely) our order "was not Chinese food". She explained that they were an authentic Chinese food restaurant and said she wood send us food as close to that my wife had ordered. WELL, the food was absolutely deliciously fantastic and I always tell people when they say about getting a Chinese tonight "order from Kung Fu kitchen. It's a little more expensive than your run of the mill takeaway, and I mean just a "little" bit(about £4 more than I would have expected for four people elsewhere) , I tell you I am more than happy with that as you certainly get what you pay for. And you know what, the lady even phoned us back to ask us if our food was satisfactory. OUR WHOLE EXPERIENCE WAS MORE THAN SATISFACTORY LET ALONE THE FOOD. YOU AINT HAD CHINESE FOOD LOCALLY UNTIL YOU HAVE HAD IT FROM HERE.

Food was great and authentic. Generally large portions and full of flavours. Would highly recommend the food. However, one aspect really ruined the experience for us, namely the owner of the place. She would loudly and over-enthusiastically greet, help and tend to 'certain' customers, sometimes bordering on aggressive. As the customer on the next table remarked to me after her order was taken, "She's quite a character isn't she". I get that this type of customer service might be well suited for some because it shows friendliness and willingness to help, but others might prefer a more laid-back approach, and might even interpret her actions as rude or overbearing. We just found her to be especially loud and it ruined the atmosphere for us a little. More importantly, on the 'certain' customers, we noticed that the owner (ethnically Chinese) would only tend to white customers. As a fellow Chinese customer, we were seated between two tables with white customers, and the difference in customer service cannot be overstated. She would enthusiastically greet, help them and tend to their every need; but pretty much ignore us or immediately delegate her two other employees to serve us. We weren't 100% sure at first, but after observing her customer service to other Chinese and white customers around the restaurant, we noticed that she couldn't spare any of her time and attention to her Chinese customers and would rather be over-friendly to our white counterparts. At the end when we asked for the bill (to one of her employees), since she seemed to be the only one able to operate the register, she took a long time to get to it. She literally tended to every other white table before generating our bill, and again asking one of the employees to come to our table instead of herself. Weirdly, we were told we would get a discount if we paid cash instead of card (is this tax avoidance I'm not sure), but none of the white customers sat beside us were told this when they paid, and they paid with card. (And the owner brought the bill to their tables personally) I'm not sure what was going on, but that definitely smelled fishy. All in all, maybe there was a reason for the different ways we were treated compared to the white guests, but we definitely walked away feeling unimportant and deflated because of our skin colour. In conclusion, if you're white and don't mind a bit of over-friendly customer service, I'm sure you'll have a great time. If you're ethnically Chinese, I might suggest getting takeaway from there instead.

This restaurant transported me back to my travels around China 14 years ago; authentic and delicious! They have a huge dedicated vegan menu, from which we have tried quite a few of the dishes over two visits to date. The salt and pepper white mushroom and beans is a standout winner. So light and crispy, yet not oily at all. The special pot potato, stir fried aubergine & fine bean, mock duck, hot & sour soup and stir fried potatoes, peppers & aubergine are also all delicious. The staff are all super friendly and happy to make recommendations - and there's a great buzz in the restaurant. You can tell most people are regulars. The staff whom I approached for clarification responded with the following words: "I don't know, what do you expect me to answer?" before promptly leaving without addressing my concerns. There was also another staff (does not seem to be able to speak English) coming to our table and asked us to picked up the food left in one dish to another dish ourselves in case she can collect the empty plate earlier. The restaurant has a chalk - written café menu outside, which includes English breakfast from £7.95. I had an English breakfast, and the bacon was rancid. It should have been thrown away and replaced. The sausages and beans did not seem very fresh either. It is unacceptable to serve customers sub-standard quality food, no matter if this is a restaurant specialized in Chinese food. If the owners do not feel capable of cooking decent English breakfasts, then stop serving them altogether.

I say order, I mean request as we were very firmly instructed to change some dishes as we had not achieved the correct balance. All part of the fun, and the food was wonderful. Beer and wine were fine. But it is the authentic food that will draw you back. Any place that serves pig intestines with chili really knows their stuff. Waiter suggested we share aparticular dish, I declined to which he continued to persist that we share for a good minute before conceededing that was not what the customer wanted.

Usually order 5 or 6 dishes for family takeaway. Food still good quality but have noticed on last 2 visits that both portion and container sizes have noticeable shrunk. Also on meat dishes more padding of peppers & onions evident so reducing the value for money. Also less noodles in noodles only dishes. I guess these are ways of keeping the prices unchanged, but feel a bit cheated with less food to eat !

First visit to Kung-fu Kitchen tonight and happy to say it is definitely worth a visit, fresh food full of flavour. If you are after an authentic Chinese meal then you will not find better anywhere in reading. Be aware not to over order as portion sizes are enough for 4. The owners are very friendly so ask for some recommendations to guide you on what to eat. Cant wait to go back.

We had a friend gathering tonight, other than the dishes ordered, one of us ordered a drink, and the other would just like to have tap water. At the end of our meal and check the bill, we found we are charged with a £0.5/person of a 'glass charges' except the one who ordered a drink. This is the first time we heard about this charge, and I feel this is very dishonest, as no one mentioned about that when we ordering the drink or requesting for the tap water. We tried to ask and confirm again if the tap water is offered for free. The staff replied the tap water is free, but the glasses are not. This is absolutely absurd. For the righteousness, I won't recommend this restaurant.

This is a so-so Chinese restaurant. The taste is close to other old style Chinese restaurant, in English variation. Some dishes are not bad, but cannot say delicious. The most ridiculous is the "Water Glass Charge" of £0.5. Service charge is also more than 10% which does not seem to have extra services.

The restaurant serves authentic Chinese food. Every dish we had was scrumptious. The restaurant is welcoming and the service is excellent. Always serving with a BIG smile. Our family's most favourite restaurant.

Authentic Chinese food! Having lived in China (great Chinese food everywhere) and London (can find it if you look hard enough ) was absolutely overjoyed to finally find genuine Chinese food in Reading. Having sampled other "Chinese" restaurants in the area, tried Kung Fu kitchen and got the real deal. Freshly prepared dishes with authentic ingredients. My wife and I had the pork in sweet bean sauce with pancakes and two spicy beef dishes. Each was delicious. Service was excellent and rapid. Top notch.

If you're looking for typical British-Chinese takeaway food, this isn't the place for you. If you're looking for authentic food that you could actually find in a restaurant in China, get booking a table! The food was incredible, and the owners are hilarious. We thought it was a little pricey at first but then realised it's because the portions are HUGE, and the prices are totally justified.

Please tell me one thing, who adds coconut to butter chicken - why would you do that to people?. Butter chicken tasted like a dessert with grounded coconut in it , had to throw away the whole thing.

Waiters were rude and discriminatory towards my friend. They ignored us when it came to our order and grabbed the menu off us when we were choosing what to eat. Very aggressive. Manager just sat at the bar and didn’t help at all. Definitely wouldn’t come here!!

Great coffee and nice service. However, even have-in drinks are served in plastic cups :( I only come here when I have my reusable cup

Not very good value for money IMO, I understand inflation hit everyone but the prices of things like rice or chicken katsu were ridiculous for such small portions. Drinks very expensive too... there are other options around with a better value for money
