Proper country pub , excellent variety of beers and ales from abroad and local breweries. Friendly atmosphere one of the best pubs in area. If you like traditional then this pub certainly ticks all the boxes .. would highly recommend.

Great pub. Traditional..... drinks only, no food. Free House, with an awesome selection of English and German beers. The Landlord (Andrew) is very friendly, as is his Wife and the Staff. No TV, no wi fi, phones are discouraged. People actually talk with each other there. You will love it.

I previously gave this pub a 5* rating back in May last year. Im sure it is still a wonderful pub but I was so disappointed to see they now close at 10pm every night. The pub is fairly remote and by the time I get there I would only have time for a quick couple of beers before closing. I write this as a bit of constructive feedback as the owners have allways seemed to strive for a very traditional pub, but traditionally rural pubs closed at 11pm. Unfortunately I wont be able to go there while they are closing early. Hopefully they may rethink!!!

We visited the Cock Inn after a very unpleasant experience at a neighbouring pub. The staff here were extremely warm and friendly. The beer was lovely and nothing was too much trouble for anyone. This is a proper country pub and you would go a long way to find one as lovely as this. Thank you to the owners and team.

We had not visited The Cock Inn for quite a long while. What a relief to see that it is still so cosy and welcoming. It is decorated uniquely with shelves of old books, beer mats displayed on the ceiling and many attractive spitfire pictures on the walls. I commented to my husband that there was so much of interest to look at, but everywhere was spotlessly clean. Six real ales and a wide range of unusual lagers too. We shall be returning sooner rather than later.

I have been to The Cock In many times, but this is my first review. Partly in response to KentTracey. She said there was no food on offer, but The Cock Inn is an English Pub, not a restaurant. Perhaps a McDonalds would have suited her needs better. There is indeed 'stuff everywhere' giving The Cock Inn its unique and interesting Character.Drinks are fairly priced, not Weatherspoons prices, but this pub isn't a Weatherspoons.Keep up the great work and please don't change the pub in any way. I for one cant wait to be over the Covid-19 restrictions and get back to fantastic traditional English pubs like yours.

Looks good from the outside inside tells a different story, We stopped in as passing through our first and last visit. Couple of people in there and bar staff only wanted to chat to them we interupted that chat and was not made welcome. No food on offer only overpriced stale rolls and over priced drinks . There is stuff everywhere on the walls and ceilings even in the toilets. Very sexist and old fashioned. dirty too needs to be refurbished asap. Landlord was older man loked to be on his death bed . He needs to admit defeat and let some new blood take it over and make it a good place to go we wont be returning anytime soon nor will we recomend it

Outstanding pub in beautiful surroundings. No food served these days but plenty of excellent ales, busy with a friendly vibe. No under 18's permitted which is fair enough. Given the difficulties in finding and retaining decent kitchen staff and associated costs, its tremendous to see this magnificent pub keep going successfully on wet sales alone - long may it continue!

I like to go this pub and sit with my book while he has a drink or two or three . This is a traditional English real ale pub. You will NOT find a juke box, fruit machines or a pool table ... but you WILL find a bar billiard table, a dart board, cards, shelves of books to read, great beer and pleasant friendly people. They don't do meals but they do sandwiches and snacks. I love this pub, because there are not many pubs left like it.

If a lifeless branded chain is your thing don’t bother stopping here, if however you want to savour a traditional English Country Pub then step right in.This place does not promote itself as a modern watering hole with all the noise and technology that comes with it, it prides itself on being traditional and part of the local community in the countryside in Kent. Want to know what a traditional village public house was like in days gone by.... then visit The Cock Inn.You will be welcomed by the staff and clientele alike and you will no doubt find a nice quiet place to enjoy your drink and/or food in peace if that’s what you want to do.Ample parking and large gardens to sit in during the warmer weather.Go for it, there is more life and character in this one pub than a dozen of the branded chain pubs put together!

On our anniversary thought we would drop in as we had driven passed a few times and had looked like a good old fashioned country pub, we looked at the menu and plumped for a stake and ale pie beans and mash as it was a cold day, well the pie was shop bought but ok the mash was instant and dreadful, the beans were beans what can you say, and the gravy instant too, over all I have had better in some transport cafes. As I then needed to relive myself I was both amused and shocked to find vintage pictures of naked women in various states of undress plastered all over the walls, Totally inappropriate for a public house.

I used to live near this pub as a child so was really looking forward to actually going inside this time (notice on the door says 'No children allowed inside). The friendliest thing about the pub was a visitors dog who vaguely looked interested in the fact that two people had come into the space. The bar lady was not welcoming at all. She didn't smile and one could have cut the atmosphere with a knife. We were saved, while we were drinking our £4 each lager shandies, by another visitor and struck up a conversation with him, otherwise we would have been left to whisper to each other as it felt like there was a sign up saying 'No talking/laughing/being friendly allowed'

The Cock is rightly famous for its friendly ambience and it's great selection of well kept real ales. However, the fish and chips we ordered were a massive disappointment. The battered cod looked very much as if it came from a freezer pack, ready battered and the the chips had the mushy texture of oven chips. In retrospect, the sausage rolls and Cornish pasties in the hot box on the bar might have made a far more appetising choice.

This pub has a very traditional feel where the focus is on the drink rather than the food, so many local country pubs which have turned themselves into Gastropubs. I visited around lunchtime and it was refreshing to see people enjoying there drinks and talking rather than feeling like you were in a middle class restaurant. There is a great selection of beers at resonance prices. The pub also serves good basic home style food which was ok and great value.

Idiosyncratic pub off the main drag. Very interesting ambience. For example must see the lad’s loo, for the glamour pics. Apparently the ladies loo is the same. Food good but would advise the veggies are not very fresh or seasonal as described in the menu, the meat dish was a little on the dry side. Biggest problem was the dogs. If your gonna ban kids why not dogs as well. Plenty of room in the big outdoor area for dogs. Nearly tripped over a dog sitting in the gloom at the top of a step.

The staff were excellent and when I asked what the three pump lagers were that I had never heard of she straight away gave me a sample of each to try, nice touch. We had lamb shanks with all the trimmings which were delicious washed down with good beer. The food was piping hot which we appreciated having been given luke warm meals on too many occasions elsewhere. Only disappointment was they didn't have any desserts which we found strange as it was a Friday and although not full there were plenty of other people there. Whether there was a particular reason for this we didn't ask but had coffees instead. Well worth another visit but expect a muddy car as it is down a narrow country lane.

this cosy pub with two bars & a large conservatory could basically be described as a gents only club ...sleazy ancient photos of topless women in the gents loos ( completely out of character for the type of pub) & no kids allowed. We visited on New years day after a family stroll in the beautiful surrounding countryside and ushered our 17 year old kids straight into the conservatory at the back while we sought permission for them. We didn't have to SEEK at all as we were pounced upon immediately...they must be keeping a weathered eye on the horizon for kids/young adults. NO CHILDREN/TEENAGERS ALLOWED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. We were told we would have to sit in the garden in the rain !! Shame such a pretty pub is devoid of atmosphere and friendliness. There were 10 of us all wanting different food: some pies/pasties, some hot mains and some sandwiches. It all arrived pretty quickly: well-presented, generous and tasty portions. Great real ale selection as well, including a guest ale which many tried. There was even a pretty cat to stroke! All 10 of us were really impressed. I have the good fortune to reside close to the quaint village of Luddesdown, near Meopham. Set amidst beautiful countryside The Cock Inn is truly superb. Andy the licensee maintains a top class cellar with an extensive range of delightful real ales. Adnams is the main offering but several guest beers always add to the excitement when you visit, not knowing what will be available until you gaze in wonderment at the long list of ales. The bar staff are friendly and pleasant, the bar food excellent and tasty and very competitively priced. With a traditional atmosphere, beer mats plastered to the ceiling and Battle of Britain memorabilia adorning the walls, it is like stepping back in time to a somehow more settled era. I have visited this venue many times over the years. Every season. I have never had a bad experience, not even an average one. Always memorable. Lovely pub out in the Countryside near Meopham, Kent. The pretty garden is set out to invite birds (of the feathered kind) and many species do turn up to use the many feeders. Shame about the garden furniture which is tired and not comfortable. Inside the pub offers good beers and drinks but the food is very average and not really inviting. The best dishes are the sausage (local butcher) and chips and the scampi and chips. Board games of many varieties are on the Conservatory tables for those that want a little more than a drink and chat. The pub is ideal for walkers and those just seeking a lunchtime or Sunday drink. There is a large car park. Worth a visit but don't expect too much. Upping the quality of the menu/food served could make all the difference.

Sometimes you can walk into a pub or club for the first time, or even as a regular, and be met with miserable or even rude staff and those that are wrapped up in their own self-importance - but not here in The Rum Puncheon. I came in here today on recommendation from a friend called Simon who is a fire chief at Eltham. Sat for almost an hour talking with a lovely young lady behind the bar called Tess. What a credit to The Rum Puncheon she is, though she is leaving this Sunday. I'm sure she will be missed. There were two Ales on tap from Horsham's Dark Star, those being Hophead and Orbiter. I only had the hophead which was nice. With the explosion of Micro Pubs and tap Rooms though, I would like to see perhaps one or two locally produced Ales such as from Iron Pier who even brew a Pale Ale called West Street - ironic as that is where The Rum Puncheon is. That said, the two ales available here are two more than some places have that stick to their same ol same ol monotonous regular ale. I'll definitely be back base don conversation alone.
