This is the second time we have been to this pub,and once again, was not disappointed, the staff are superb, but the food, in particular the pies are amazing, they are literally a 10/10. Age 55, food snob, loves pies.

Sunday roast at its best, we enjoyed it all. The servings are generous; each plate served with a gravy boat. The cauliflower cheese was delicious and enough to share between 3. The Cob & Pen has a wood burner, crackling in the background adding to the ambiance of a cosy old English pub. We’ll definitely be going again.

Attention to detail appears to have slipped recently, male and female rest rooms were lacking hand cleaner, toilet roll missing, broken toilet seats.tables were dirty and sticky, cobwebs on wall light fittings. Ran out of beer early in the evening. Overall is a nice comfortable and friendly pub, but the cracks are beginning to show.

Has been a favourite of ours for Sunday Lunch for several years. On our visit 2 weeks ago we were surprised to see the prices had gone up without prior notification. Today we had never seen it so empty. We understood why when we got the bill. They have now added a 10% service charge on top of the price increase. Unfortunately, having a bill rise by £10 will mean they have lost us as customers. Too greedy!

Booked a table for a group of 6 of us for Sunday lunch. We were initially a bit concerned that the weather looked "iffy" as seating is currently only allowed outdoors but were pleased to find we were seated under cover of the marquee. My friends all commented on how much they enjoyed their roast dinners (as did I) - between us we ordered the beef, pork and turkey plus one lasagne. All equally scrumptious. Great roast potatoes, Yorkshires and generous meat portions.Service was spot on - as was the beer....The mobile app for ordering/payments worked well once you've set up an account the first time.My friends have already said we must book again next time they visit Fareham at the end of May.Thanks Suzy and team!

We decided to swing by on day 2 of pubs reopening (couldn’t stay away any longer!) and I’m so glad we did! I had the scampi and chips and I honestly think it was the best tartare sauce I’ve ever had (I asked for extra lol) . The kiddies and husband cleared their plates too. So nice to have food cooked and cleared away for me after so long doing it all!The new marquee and play area is amazing and we could have stayed much longer if our table wasn’t booked out after us (that’ll teach us for not booking!)

Went last night to support the reopening. Really gone downhill since the lockdown. Straw bales out the front (every dog on the world has urinated on them) are growing weeds, garden area had rubbish strewn around, Xmas decorations still not packed away, broken fence in kids play area/car park, dirty glasses, toilet not cleaned! Staff didn’t observe social distancing, they wore masks but couldn’t tell if they were staff or customers as really scruffy. Such a shame as used to be a lovely pub but just slowly going downhill over past few years.

Just the two of us and of course the most important guest, my little dog. We were made very welcome.Staff and service was spot on. Obvs this might change if they were allowed to pack the place out. Though without 'rules' they would do a good job too.The Pub is a bit off the beaten track though just minutes from town. Go there. I like my roast beef rare and i know it is not to everyone's taste so i swerved that and had the turkey crown. Very nice. The vegetables were cooked exactly as they should be. Roast potatoes perfect though i couldn't eat all three. What i found so good about this place was if you were there...other people who were there would be happy to talk to you. Can't say better than that.

Visited the Cob and Pen today with my family (group of 7) after hearing countless stories of how wonderful the roast dinners were! Upon arrival we were seated inside as requested and were greeted by a friendly waitress. We were given menus and our drinks order was taken. After returning with the drinks we placed our orders and waited with hungry bellies! The food didn't take very long to come out as the restaurant wasn't overly busy. When it arrived it looked every bit as good as what people had told me! I had the beef and it was absolutely delicious! We were given extra gravy too which I would recommend if you like your dinner with a bit extra So far....so very good! Unfortunately it was at this point that the service completely deserted us! We had finished our meals and the plates remained in situ for a good 15-20 minutes after the last person had finished their meal. In addition to this we had numerous empty glasses on the table and hadn't seen a waitress for a good half an hour at this point. Eventually after going up to the bar to ask, the plates were taken away. We were not asked if we wished to see the dessert menu/after dinner coffee and we were left feeling a bit 'forgotten about'. Because of this we decided that we didn't wish to stay any longer and asked for the bill. After 10 minutes the bill still hadn't arrived so I went back to the bar to ask again and was greeted by the same girl I had asked, folding napkins. The bill did eventually arrive and one of our group members said to the waitress that we had felt a tad forgotten about and that we weren't asked if we wanted desserts to which she replied "Oh, I am sorry about that". Overall not the best experience. Food was awesome but the service was not what I had hoped or expected. It wasn't overly busy inside either so I was struggling to defend it. Unsure as to whether I would go again.

Very strange pub... got asked to keep the noise down in the beer garden as the Landlady 5 year old daughter Abigail is trying to sleep. Obvs we first thought the bar man was joking and we carried on. When the Land lady came down to clarify she said it was because of the neighbours and denied is was because of her daughter. When I asked how do i know your daughters age and name she did not seem to have an answer. Bar boy was very rude and was doing his best to agitate the situation and actually call us names. Extremely unprofessional and rude staff who lie when they realise how stupid their request was. Land lady could not smile if she tried and pub in general was very dirty and clearly not been deep cleaned or anything before opening. Would not recommend at all.

Ordered 2 med steaks, could hardly put knife thru or chew. Asked if could spk to someone, a girl spoke to me re my concern, she was holding a young child and had been eating on table next to us, along with dog. Piped in here for Sunday Roast. Beef, port and Turkey were on offer. There was way to much meat on the plates, honestly it was piled high. The pork came with crackling and it was well cooked. The roast potatoes were definitely home made not the a frozen one in sight. They were crispy and lovely. The veg was fresh and nicely cooked, not mushy. Loved the flavour of the carrots really sweet and tender. We asked for an extra portion of roast potatoes but because they had bookings they couldn’t do them.

We went to the Cob and Pen for a birthday meal - the birthday boy was 80! There were 6 of us and we had the round table at the back. We decided to share 3 starters and it was a good decision. The nachos was enormous, a plate of tortilla chips, sour cram, guacomole and salsa with some jalepeno pepper slices covered in melted cheese. The pork terrine was perfectly accompanied by a grape chutney and the whitebait were tasty even though the crumb was a bit on the hard side. For mains we had the Vegan Burger, sausages, fish in batter, duck confit, sea bass and fishcakes. All very good but the duck, vegan burger and sea bass stood out. We had delicious veg on the side - peas, carrots (super tasty) and peas. We also ordered totally unnecessry a portion of the chunky chips. All delicious and large portions. The waiter was excellent and so helpful in trying to get the fire lit. A bottle of Malbec complemented the food. We did not have room for desserts but coffee was also good. It was worth the trip for the nachos alone but the rest of the food was superb. Lovely friendly pub with a huge garden which would be great for children in the summer. Thoroughly recommended.

I have to say, the roast dinner was very good indeed, with a good portion of top quality Beef. The staff, although very young were absolutely brilliant, and nothing was too much trouble, especially as the pub was very busy. If we did have a little niggle, it would have been nicer to have had a few more vegetables with our meal, as there was quite little for the two of us.That said, it was a first class meal, and we will be back very very soon I'm sure.

When my partner went to order the food he asked them to come and clean it.... that never happened so I had to do it myself. Waitress brought cutlery over but assumed we already had some but I corrected her as these were the dirty ones left on the table. Literally less than 5 minutes after we ordered, our food arrived. That was the quickest roast dinner ever! The veg was hard, the potatoes, pudding and lamb was all a struggle to cut! I left most of it on the plate because the more I tried to eat the more frustrated I became at struggling to cut my food! Honestly the worst roast dinner ever would never go back.

We had chosen this family pub because of the good quality food that we had in the past for Sunday lunch. We knew that it was able to accommodate the children as the garden is fantastic. But what made the day great was the chef, we had organised a cold buffet. This was excellent home made food. The chef was very attentive and accommodating. The bar staff were excellent too. I would strongly recommend this pub for any occasion. 5 stars

Family Sunday Roast time - 5 of us and we all chose something different, Gammon, Pork, Lamb, Beef and Vegetarian options.easy parking and the welcome was good when we arrived.Food arrived within 15 minutes, good portions, really well cooked and presented. Table service also very good.Reasonably priced for the quality of the food.Would definitely recommend but suggest you book before you go to ensure you get a place :-)

Went in for a business lunch and was happily surprised to see Steak Rossini on the specials board. After our drinks and food order was taken, there was quite a wait for the food (in excess of 30 minutes) and as we were the first people in, and they were not exactly busy I expected a quicker service. My steak was cooked almost as I had asked, and had a slightly funny taste. The leeks were undercooked, the cauliflower various stages of cooked, and the swede, while tasty, was a little wet. There was a hint of pepper and butter and not exactly unpleasant, but not overly tasty either. The dauphinoise was obviously warmed up as it has a very crispy top and the madeira sauce did not taste of much. All in all the food lacked substance and seasoning. Unfortunately you do not get a second chance at a first impression.Based on this visit I would not be in a hurry to go back.

It was really nice having a choice of gammon, chicken, lamb, beef or pork - and the food was delicious, really generous servings and nice selection of vegetables, great yorkshire puddings and choice of accompanying sauces! We'll definitely be back. Excellent value too!

This dear little pub has changed hands many times over the years and is currently in a safe pair. A good team and scrummy food makes any visit a happy one. There is a fun area for kids outside and bbq for hire. A good venue to celebrate those special occasions and a large outside area to use in the warmer months.

I really enjoy drinking here in the summer and the pub garden is roomy and has adequate seating. I would not however recommend the food. I ordered a burger and chips - when my food eventually arrived, it was cold - the burger tasted like bland cardboard - no flavour and really dry. As it took 20 minutes to get served by the not so happy landlady, we didn't bother complaining. No one came to ask us how our food was or even took the dirty cutlery away for the whole 2 hours we were there. Disappointing. Would return for drinks only.

Ordered the so called catch of the day which was supposedly haddock.we got grease soaked batter with a thin layer of mushy white stuff posing as fish...disgusting and obviously from the freezer!

New chef rolled out his new menu tonight, we were 3 very happy diners. Had the lasagne, homemade burger with incredible fat chips & the best turkey & ham pie, perfect after a long wet run! No fuss, reasonably priced, tasty home-cooked food.

We visited on Mothering Sunday - very busy everywhere of course. We were well looked after and while the food was standard pub fayre, it was nicely prepared and very reasonably priced.

So I love to cook and am quite fussy. Due to having kitchen refurb have eaten 3 times in the last 2 weeks at what is now my local. What can I say? Fish and chips one night. Delicious. Good size portion and very well cooked. 2 nd meal... pie of the day with chips and veg (any choice of potato but of course I chose chips...) absolutely gorgeous. Perfectly cooked veg, amazing homemade pastry, delicious filling and perfect gravy. So... Tonight was 2 curries for a tenner. Been there, done that, been disappointed but not umexpected. Tonight was unexpected. Lamb curry... Tender and tasty. Not from a jar like some pub curry nights, homecooked and lovely, basmati rice was light and tasty, nan and poppadoms to go with it. Good size portions again.

Just had a Mother's Day meal here with my husband and 3 children. Roast lamb was beautiful and they even cooked it to my liking as I dont like my meat pink, potatoes were crispy and everything really well done. Children had chicken and one had a burger and said it was lovely. Puddings were equally as amazing and everyone ate every single bit.Loved the garden as the kids enjoyed being able to have a play and run off some steam between courses. Only thing was kids menu was very limited and only real option for kids desert was ice cream so ended up getting them grown up ones

Came in Sunday 19th March, roast beef was delicious, husband had chicken, pub was so busy they ran out of chicken and beef, son had pork which was also delicious. Crackling was to die for, we were all fighting over it! Banoffee pie was obviously homemade and rustic and absolutely devine! Lovely atmosphere. Entered meat raffle, prizes looked really good but unfortunately we didn't win. Will definitely be booking again. They are advertising several music events that I will definitely look to attend. Had a fab afternoon with a great village pub atmosphere.

First time having a Sunday roast today 19.3.2017, asked for Beef was told no beef left, asked for Chicken....no chicken, no choice but to have Pork...finally arrived after 30 minutes wait. 18month got so fed up with waiting, she got very irritable. Roast was not even a proper joint was rolled pork and full of fat! very unhappy at £9.95 per head, even charged £5/6 for her meal!! complete waste of money. Potatoes were dry and hardly any veg for 3 adults, we hardly ever go out for a roast so will not be re-visiting here again. Certainly not suitable for families.

Quite nice village pub, popular for food, nice area outside to sit in the summer.Roast dinner was good, more expensive than similar establishments in the area.Huge portions of meat, we did need to ask for more gravy but this was bought to the table by the waiter who was a very nice young man.The promise of crackling and crunchy roast potatoes was a little disappointing as chewy rather than crunchy was served, however they bought some more crackling which was true to its name.We didn't have pudding as the portion size was substantial. The pub itself needs to be a bit more homely, it felt quite sparse and lacked atmosphere but that was just my opinion. Was not keen to leave my credit card behind the bar but this was the system that they used so better to pay as you go or by cash. The young waiter was very polite and happy to accommodate our requests.

The food was good, the bar staff very good let down unfortunately by the person on the door. When we arrived she was deep in conversation and did not acknowledge us at all. Most of the tables had reserved signs on so carefully choose one that didn't.Ordered our drinks were given menu's by bar staff, was in the middle of ordering, when the women who had not acknowledge us earlier came over and asked if they were our coats on the table.I said yes and she said you will need to move the table is reserved,I said we were not aware it was and she said we have put a cutlery box on the table that says it's reserved.I did not argue just moved my coat and found another place outside which was very pleasant. My friend however said to her that we were unaware that the table was reserved as it had no sign and perhaps in future she might put a reserved sign on it.She just said well you should have waited to be seated anyway.I found her attitude very rude the young man who brought our food seemed almost embarrassed that we were spoken to in such a way.Won't be going for food there again if she is on.The pub was empty when we turned up so what was her excuse for not coming up politely explaining the system earlier not waiting till the people actually turned up.Suggest she takes a hospitality course.

Have driven past many times and decided that we must give this place a go. Wish we hadn't bothered! The menu is quite limited and what makes it even worse is that both of us have issues with peppers - capsicum and chilli . Only one thing on the menu that I liked and didn't have some form of pepper in it. On the upside hubby had a burger that he really enjoyed but apart from that, considering that the venue is overlooking the creek with an abundance of swans, the food is a complete let-down. Won't bother going back as there are plenty of other venues in the area with more extensive menu's that don't seem to be dependent on peppers!!
