The Coal Shed in Southwark

Mi otra mitad y algunos amigos fuimos aquí un domingo para un asado dominical después de escuchar tantas cosas buenas que tuve que probar, no estuvo tan mal, sobre todo fue agradable hasta que llegué a la papa asada que tenían ese sabor y textura recalentado / microondas distintivo. Les dije como retroalimentación y les pregunté: Cómo cocinaban y decían que estaba fresco, sí que decía bien si lo están no sé cómo los haces pero saben a microondas/recalentado, se disculparon y quitaron un cupé de lados de la factura, aparte de que no estaba tan mal.

Faultless experience. The host was warm and welcoming. The gentleman that looked after us was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was relaxing. The food was delicious, perfect portion sizes and had a very nice French red. Will most definitely visit again.

The starters were awful the ribs were around an inch long and two in number, the cold meats were curling at the edges, guest requested bread which took ages to arrive. We both ordered Fillet steak which were both not cooked as required ,guest had to send it back, so we had our starters and mains at different times not together. As for the “mashed potato” I have never been served anything like it, it was liquid it was a mixture of milk and cream without any visible potatoes, in 50+ years working in London I have never been served anything like it They must have a new chef as I dined there a month ago and the food was good if unremarkable. Sadly following this experience I will not return

Una gran experiencia y un servicio excepcional. Vinimos a cenar antes de ver a Ricardo II en el Bridge Theatre. Todo el personal que encontramos fue cortés y extremadamente servicial. Preguntamos si podíamos sentarnos junto a una ventana y, aunque fue difícil, el gerente logró movernos. La comida era deliciosa. Tenía el pollo y estaba tierno y húmedo. Vino con una porción generosa de papas fritas y la guarnición de verduras verdes también era muy generosa. Para cuando salimos a las 7 pm, el restaurante estaba lleno y me alegré de que había reservado con antelación. Pensé que el precio final de la factura era justo y valía la pena, especialmente dado el tamaño de la porción.

Do you know what you want from a restaurant? If you do, you’ve probably already experienced it at The Coal Shed, London Bridge. The food is exquisite and prepared and presented beautifully. The staff are attentive, without being fawning, and their knowledge of their food and drinks menu is extensive. Fantastic value for money and a great evening out, whether casually dropping in or a planned “event”.

My family and I went there for my birthday. The restaurant was busy but we were seated very quickly. This has to be one of the best Sunday roasts I have ever had. 500g of perfectly cooked sirloin for 2. The roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding and vegetables (including cauliflower cheese) were all cooked perfectly. We had had starters before (the salmon was very good) but couldn't manage anything more after the roast! We had a bottle of red but a selection of wines are available by the glass and carafe. Unfortunately my wife discovered she had lost her phone when we were leaving. Despite the efforts of the staff, it could not be located. She returned early the following morning and despite the restaurant not being open, thy let her in a finally found her phone. They also gave her a much needed cup of coffee! So overall a great experience and would certainly strongly recommend.

Absolute gem of a find. Food was superb which was only bettered by the team of Anastasia, Aaliyah & Westly….this is how you run a restaurant…

Excellent food and wonderful service from Wesley who recommended several dishes which we wouldn't normally have chosen but we thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks to all the staff, particularly the lovely Wesley.

I came for the dinner special. A group of 6, I was 5 min late and they refused the special. However it took 10 minutes to get service. Food was average for other guests. I ordered a hamburger came cold (frozen butter on bun), so ask if could heat up, burnt to a cinder in an inedible. I wouldn't go back. I as told I was rude and lucky to be served as I was "5 min" late. I was very polite. Group were shocked. Dog had hamburger.

Coal Shed lived up to expectations and beyond. The food was amazing and our waiter, Wesley, was brilliant. He was very attentive, made some great recommendations, and is an all round nice bloke. He made our experience that much better. Don Wes.

El restaurante estaba ocupado y eso afectó el servicio. Tardamos más de una hora en recibir nuestra red. Cuando llegaron uno estaba frío, y el otro, un filete medio raro, estaba bien hecho y duro. El aperitivo de ostra cruda que se pidió en hielo llegó sobre sal caliente sin ninguno de los condimentos mencionados en el menú. Los tomates ampollados no estaban ampollados, y el otro lado que pedimos llegó 15 minutos después del resto de la comida. Cuando le mencionamos estas cuestiones al camarero fue grosero y desdeñoso. El resto del personal era encantador.

Un amigo y yo nos intoxicamos por comer ostras en el restaurante. He comido aquí antes y es un buen restaurante, y agradezco que la intoxicación alimentaria pueda ocurrir. Sin embargo, el aspecto más decepcionante fue no recibir una respuesta del restaurante. No buscábamos compensación, simplemente una advertencia de no vender más ostras. Fui hospitalizado debido a esto, y no puedo creer la falta de respuesta.

El menú del teatro era una buena relación calidad-precio para Londres, pero el menú en general carecía de brillo y originalidad. Tenía la hamburguesa que estaba demasiado hecho pero bien presentado y buenas patatas fritas. El servicio era excelente y los servidores tan atentos y sonrientes.

A pesar de reservar para una comida a la hora del almuerzo nos dijeron que no tenían Prosecco, ya que había una fiesta que llegaría más tarde esa noche. Como estábamos comiendo con amigos por un cumpleaños pedimos el siguiente vino espumoso en el menú que era más del doble del precio. Más tarde tuvimos cócteles que contenían Prosecco sin ningún problema. Pregunté si el entrante de langostinos necesitaría pelarse y la respuesta fue ‘no’. ¡Mal! Tuve una comida principal vegetariana que era normal, pero a los amigos les encantó su comida principal y todos los postres eran muy agradables. Estaba en un lugar encantador y tenía un bonito espacio exterior, pero no me apresuraba a volver.

We were meeting friends (with teenagers) near Tower Hill and wanted somewhere reasonably priced for lunch, which isn't easy in this area. The Coal Shed has a set lunch menu which is available on a Saturday. £20 for 2 courses and £25 for 3. We'd reserved a table online, lovely staff who seated us even though we were early. Place itself is pretty cool, has great toilets which I also appreciate! Kids had the tacos to start and burgers, all got the thumbs up. As did the cheesecake and fig pudding. The staff were kind enough to bring out a cake a sing happy birthday for one of our party - would recommend.

We ate off the pre theatre dinning menu - tiny steak & was a £5 supplement - cheesecake tiny too Definitely not value for money!! Staff were lovely - food not worth it. Feel very disappointed as had high hopes for this restaurant.

Myself and my hubby went to The Coal Shed recently whilst on a trip to London and we were both so impressed! The food was absolutely divine and melt in your mouth good. Our waitress, Charlie was so warm, friendly and accommodating and took great care of us. We had such a lovely time!

Visited for a client lunch. The sea trout starter was very nice, service was attentive and friendly and the pricing was not outrageous ( 3 course meal for 2 with drinks and service for less than £100 seems rare these days in London). Only slight criticism was the burger. It’s described as a double smash patty burger, but to me it seemed like a standard burger and something perhaps you’d find in an average pub. Given the level of burgers you get from your average street food chains these days, you’d expect a restaurant like this to come up with something really decent, but as it was it was just… fine. It was however cooked exactly medium well which was what I asked for, so that was a plus point. The place has a nice atmosphere and nice decor.

What a disappointment we felt very let down by the complete experience. We had booked a night out with work colleague's and partners which doesn't happen often so we had high hopes for a good night. The food was over priced and underwhelming when you pay good money you expect good quality and the food was over cooked and the portions size a joke. We ordered a bottle of wine which was so poor we sent it back, but at £50 a bottle you could have done better with a £6 bottle at the supermarket. The staff did try to make this better but just agreed it was all very poor.

Completely overpriced poor food, felt bad for the staff bringing it out who then had to justify what on earth they had just put in front of us, definitely tried to pass off a salmon fillet as a tuna steak which was so small it was actually really funny. Steaks were dry and unseasoned, and most things cold or luke warm, we recently at another restaurant nearby for a work event and the food and drink for 14 people was not as high as the bill for 6 of us at the coal shed this was after removing the cost of the 'tuna'. Absolute rip off, not the staff's fault.

As a family of six adults who had eaten at this restaurant before, we returned today for Sunday lunch. We all chose to share the roast sirloin beef (between two people at £27:50 pp). Sadly the meat itself wasn’t to the standard we were expecting, so much so that my parents sharing beef main course was completely taken off the bill as my father had complained. The roast potatoes, veggies and gravy were tasty. Desserts were good. The highlight of our meal was the exemplary service by our waitress Charlie - she was fabulous.

Group of 8 for a birthday lunch . Good value set menu ( no veggie options though ) . Good veggie options on a la carte menu . Fab wine choices . Nice private room upstairs . Lovely service .

My. Husband and I went there for dinner before heading back home to Essex I’m so glad we tried it . I’m coeliac which wasn’t a problem as the waitress went through my choice of food, then checking with the chef . Unfortunately my steak was a little underdone but delicious anyway . They noticed I hadn’t eaten it all and asked why . They asked me if they could get me anything else or could they take it off the bill. I said no that wasn’t necessary and that I was full. The food was fabulous, best chips and green beans I’ve tasted and the staff were amazing , so attentive . I found the price of the food fine as it didn’t seem to be any more expensive than other places be it in london or Essex Thank you guys for a perfect end to a perfect day Wouldn’t hesitate to visit again

Absolutely fantastic hidden gem. We chose the Sharing Roast, from start to finishe no complaints. Manager Daniel was so attentive which was lovely to see and gave us free prosecco as it was my birthday. Would 100% recommend and cannot wait to return.

Good food nice atmosphere but the 37 plus pound service charge was a shock . I would have left a tip but to have it added was a surprise to say the least

Very mixed experience. Starters and sides I had were great, service good but we received two steaks which were cold to touch. When we raised the issue we were told steaks cooked medium rare or rare should be expected cold to touch (on the outside). A lot of money for a very average (and cold) steak. There are better steak restaurants available in the area. Suggest avoiding!

Fantastic service, fantastic food and lovely ambience, nothing was too much. Pre theatre menu with extra for steak. I nearly cancelled this booking due to negative comments I saw, so glad I didn't very professional staff and great experience.

Had an absolutely lovely evening here last night before going to see Guys and Dolls. I chose from the pre theatre menu which was absolutely delicious and had the most wonderful steak! Probably not the best place to come if you are a vegetarian or vegan but if you like meat and seafood I would highly recommend. Wasn’t rushed and enjoyed a leisurely meal with great service and ambience. Will definitely return!

Very disappointing experience. We booked this for my daughters graduation meal. Food was overpriced and the portions were small. The food was rushed out to us with virtually no time in between courses. We ordered a bottle of prosecco and it was warm, we did complain about this and were told that it was the only temperature available. On average we paid £80 per head for a 3 course meal and a few glasses of warm prosecco. Would not recommend .Waiting staff very pleasant though.

Superb family meal! 6 of us ate here recently and it was wonderful, if a little pricey. Our group comprised of 4 adults who all had the set three course menu at £30 per person. The children thoroughly enjoyed their dinner too, but I do feel that £6 for a very small portion of chips is a bit steep. Having said that, our waitress was excellent and the location was ideal for us too. We’ll definitely come back!

Unfortunately the worst steak I have attempted to eat. I didn’t think that you could go far wrong with a steak but sadly this was the case. There was a peculiar smell in the restaurant and when our steak arrived, they both smelt and tasted off. I attempted to eat some of it but only managed to stomach 2 pieces before I was gagging due to the smell. Only ate the chips but still ended up with a £115.00 bill- highly disappointed with this and will not be returning.

Fabulous food and service and in a decent so close to Tower Bridge. The champagne list could be better!

The overall evening was a disaster unfortunately… from being freezing cold inside the restaurant, to a starter of belly pork that was so dry it was inedible, a well done fillet instead of rare and then 2 other steaks being given to the wrong guest, cold side dishes and our choice of wine being unavailable. The staff were mostly friendly and the manager did attempt to offer apologies in the way of a glass of Prosecco each, but then spilled one all over the table and 2 of our party. We were so disappointed as had booked this weeks in advance as a treat on our weekend away in London.

Went with 10 friends for the sharing Xmas menu - portions were embarasingly small and left feeling robbed for £80 a head. Very limited options for those with allergies despite advising in advance and waiter was reluctant to offer any information on allergies and seemed to be making it up as he went along and gave conflicting advice throughout the night!

Went for a set pre-theatre dinner with friends, food slow to arrive, but restaurant not over busy, so rather rushed the food to leave in time. The burger was possibly one of the worst in London, tasteless meat in a bun with a smear of cheese, thin slither of gherkin and relish. No salad on the side. This was followed by an equally tasteless chocolate nemesis. Never again.

Much enjoyed the two course pre-theatre dining menu. Steaks and cheeseburgers were excellent as were Pavlovas and cheesecake that followed.

Order the beef short rib for two, trust me, you won't be disappointed. We asked for rosemary and garlic on the fries (they do this on the potatoes) but that was a bit complicated so dont deviate from the menu. We orfered the short rib, triple cooked chips and tenderstem broccoli... Perfect for two. Pair with a good red such as the tuscan sangiovese. Full flavoured and satisfying. The background music in the restaurant is nice and not so overpowering that you can still hear eachother and enjoy conversation. Service is attentive. One to visit. Good location to tower bridge and nearby bars.

Food was absolutely beautiful. Tried things we hadn't tried before and was perfect. Cocktails are the best I've tasted and the staff were extremely polite and took the time to speak to you.
