A great family afternoon and evening with live music with a local band Children and adults all dancing and having fun. Food was great Lovely pizza.Staff were brilliant. Well done the coachmans and TGM.(This Ground Moves.

Cracking Sunday lunch. Beef cooked to perfection. Literally falls apart in your mouth. Staff are really friendly. Lovely ambiance

Been a couple of times now and this place is just terrible. Lovely property, clean and plenty of outdoor space for the warmer months. But there’s very little positive left to say…. They tried to cram our large family into a corner which was totally unsuitable, having to ask 2 tables of people to move each time we got up.after asking they did then show us to a much more suitable table in the back, why this wasn’t offered in the first place I don’t know as there were 4 unoccupied tables. After waiting 15 minutes to order drinks at the bar (no table service) we then ordered food. Another long wait. After waiting over an hour it food arrived - cold! Every dish in the order came with items missing such as cheese and salsa for the fajitas, onion rings and mushrooms for the steak, etc. There was no point asking the staff as the 2 staff they had were awol the whole time. Poor kids were run ragged. Just hire a few more staff!! There wasn’t a table cleared the whole time we were there and no one cleared glasses or plates as we ate. Cutlery almost thrown at us and don’t bother requesting sauces, no staff to ask. This place clearly makes a few quid so just hire a few more kids to work there and this would be a nice family bar. Until then, unless you have hours of time to waste I wouldn’t bother!

Absolutely fabulous food and value - we called for the first time a fortnight ago and were blown away by the food and value for money (two for £15 - amazing!!). Consequently called back Fri 15/12 and opted for fish n chips (2 for £20 - again amazing!!). Food portions were large, all food cooked impeccably and two happy customers.

I’m disabled and in a wheelchair my friends and I went here about 6 weeks ago was served by this brilliant waiter who used to work at some posh hotel but said his best mates parents bought the Coachman’s so working here and have to admit his service was second to none pity the waitress that served us was half as good as him. I got the gammon steak wanted it very well done it came out perfect and the triple cooked chips were probably the best I have ever had. So I came today with friends and expected the same. The waitress was good at first I told her I wanted very well done steak with egg and pineapple but it came out wanting to run to the vets. I asked to be cooked more then the waitress was miffed at me, she brought it back out 4 mins later didn’t look any different but I took it, then noticed no pineapple I asked but was told they couldn’t find any, it would of been nice to be told, the chips were not that good either not like the amazing ones I got a few weeks ago, I asked the waitress at the end that I got a brilliant steak a few weeks ago and all I wanted was a very well done one then she said it must of been a different chef, what has that got to do with a well done steak. I haven’t been back to this pub for about 10 years but after the previous meal I was definitely going to make it my regular but honestly after this meal and service that will be it for probably another 10 years. I’m very sorry to write this but whoever the waiter and chef was last time I would definitely come back every week.

Came for Sunday lunch - great value for money! The portions size was spot on and the quality of the food was good too. The gravy is nice and think and the Yorkshire pudding was massive, the veg is fresh and the mash was silky smooth. The staff are polite friendly and well trained they came over took drinks and our order and then they kept looking around the dining area watching over the tables incase anyone was wanting anything 5* service. The pub it’s self is very clean and has a great atmosphere we will be back !!!

Really picked up since under new management. Excellent food and service, burgers were great. Would recommend a visit.

From entering the venue felt welcoming warm and friendly, lovely happy staff who could not have been more friendly end happy... First class service along with the best food I've had in many many years. Great menu and outstanding service. Thank you to you all for making our visit so welcoming. Your going to be a great hit with the local people and visitors to the area too. I look forward to another visit soon. Cheers y'all.

Under new management, new menu and new chef. Popped in for lunch today and have to say we were very impressed. There were three of us and we all chose different dishes. The chicken and prawn in garlic cream sauce served with rice was divine. Chicken and king prawns were lovely and juicy and tender and the cream sauce really complimented the flavour of the chicken and prawns. The sizzling Cajun chicken with wraps, dips, salad and chips was fantastic but I couldn’t eat it all. It didn’t need the chips even though they were really crispy and well cooked. (Got them boxed up to bring home for supper) Finally the black and blue burger - tastiest burger been served in any pub in the area for a long time. Could have done with a bit more blue cheese in otherwise it was fantastic. The chips were of the chunky homemade skin on type and just Devine. Will definitely be back soon. After a really disappointing experience on Mothers day against our better judgement decided to give it another go... Again the experience was similar to the previous occasion...ridiculously understaffed. Granted it was a really warm and busy day...but it was just chaos. Choosing to sit outside after clearing our own tables ...we ordered food...kids pizzas were great but the rest rather basic...no cutlery brought out...you could just see that it was unorganised madness. In all fairness to the staff they couldn't have been more polite but were running around like headless chickens. This place has so much potential.. just don't head there for any kind of special occasion.

We tried The Coachmans after hearing it was under new management. Well, they certainly are having teething troubles. We booked Sunday lunch and arrived to find it less than busy. On ordering we were told there was no beef, so my wife changed her order. Twenty minutes later a waitress returned to tell us my belly pork was finished too. We both then waited for our changed order but nothing appeared. After forty minutes and still no sign of any food, I asked the staff (all young weekend schoolkids, with no management in sight) what was happening. I recieved no response other than that the kitchen was busy, despite most of the room having finished their meals. We paid for our bottle of wine (chosen without a wine list available and being offered red, white or rose) and left, never to return!

Took my family for a birthday meal, waited over 50mins for food, only half the order turned up. When food did arrive dishes were incomplete; speaking to the manager they blamed it on a new chef who wasn’t aware of what the orders should be served with. Can I suggest keeping a copy of the menu in the kitchen so they know. Whilst they refunded the money for the meal and boxed up what did get served on returning home the gammon steak was raw! Avoid!

First the positives: the food was tasty, the service was quick & efficient & the staff were all very friendly. On the negative side, they seem to have abandoned covid measures. Staff not wearing masks, etc. It was nearly empty for Sunday lunch so no ambience. But perhaps the lack of covid measures are putting people off. We won’t be back until the infection rates are a lot lower.

Had to ask for a Menu 3 times when given they had clearly put on cheap quick fix menu for the eat out for less days . Food came ribs were still frozen so sent them back . Nothing great or left on the menus so I got a chicken salad oh got a pick mix meal what can I say my frozen friend were revoked and put on his mail meal !!! Nothing in the box yes box no plate was edible unless you wanted to loose teeth . As for my salad it was swimming in some kind of sauce that couldn’t be eaten . We never went for the eat out for less just a nice tea out for a change after looking at the menu while drinking there before lockdown .. I’m no great cook myself but even I can knock up a edible salad !

The sunday roast from here was absolutely delicious!! I ordered the pork and was sooo impressed. Can't believe the portion size, taste and general experience for the price - amazing value for money!! You can tell the chefs take a lot of pride in their food. All of the staff were so friendly and respected social distancing. Very good experience all round and I can't wait to be back for more drinks and meals.

Called in last minute with the family for a meal out. Nice staff and food of fish and chips and burgers was fine. It is nothing special but fine for a week day meal.

We booked a table for four @ £13.95 per head,Great value, The food was superb with a free bottle of wine per couple and a great service One of the best all round meals We have had.

Arrive and enter the back room which although had few tables seated had no atmosphere it was set out weirdly & so quiet no back group music just felt uncomfortable. Any way we approached the bar & was seated few minutes later but not given menus. Waited & waited for staff to come over. Ordered lamb & pork dinner which arrived in good time & looked tasty, but no veg... sat and sat waiting for veg with dinner going cold and no arrival of vegetables so had to go ask at the bar! Not what you want on a relaxing Sunday having to chase up what should obviously come with a Sunday dinner and staff admitted they “forgot”. The dinner was lovely but the restaurant just had an uncomfortable feel. Laid out all wrong drafty and really cold! Also the diet coke was poured from a bottle (witnessed this) and was flat! Decided to skip dessert and I’m so glad as a man opened the door to the men’s loo which is near the area and the smell was horrific! I felt physically sick at the dirty smell.... I’m so glad I didn’t smell this before my dinner had been eaten or I’d have left without eating. We asked for the bill and the man who was taking payment also smelt ... this was of strong cigarette smoke. So I was happy to leave after this smelly end to the meal and not in any hurry to go back. Service needs improved, toilets cleaned and staff hygiene/smell addressed. But the food was nice which is a shame for the chef who obviously works hard.

We came for food to the newly opened Coachman's Rest which is housed in what was the function room. We were greeted by friendly waiting and bar staff and shown to our table. Once seated out waiter introduced himself, which I found to be a lovely little touch and made it a pleasant experience by removing some of the awkwardness. I had the Venison Carpaccio with blackberry to start and it was delicious, well seasoned and the horseradish gave it that little kick needed to balance the sweetness of the Venison. My main was the Chargrilled Mackrel with creamed leeks and new potatoes. Mackrel was perfectly cooked and the leeks too. Would have liked a little more seasoning in the leeks, however this was easily fixed with the pepper mill. My friends and I were given the right amount of attention throughout our meal from the waiting staff, which was great as no one once to be disturbed every few moments. The ambiance of the Coachman's Rest was nice, a little back ground music was welcomed. Only downside was, as the pub began to fill up it became noisy and was slightly distracting whilst we were eating and catching up. Also the dessert was disappointing, ginger and apple cake... It was dry and tasted like carrot cake. All in all a wonderful high end meal for a reasonable price. I would easily go again to enjoy more of the menu.

Called in on passing with friends for lunch. Excellent service, good range on menu, quick service, reasonable prices and lovely food. Not much more I need to say! :)

We booked Sunday lunch and unfirtunately it was our worst ever experience. There was a function in the bar area, do I assume that the staff forgot about us. We entered a vast lounge area with only two tables occupied. They were at the furthest point from the serving area and we were placed between them. Three toddlers amongst them. They were not badly behaved but why sit us there? The fishcakes have been mentioned before, aweful and seved with hard broccoli and cold peas. Main course wad cold and served with yes hard broccoli and cold peas. We had to ask for cutlery, then for accompaniments then for the bill(when I had to go looking for staff). Never again!

Absolutely fantastic refurbishment first impression s great. negatives kids scooters everywhere outside/bikes and football s generally kids running everywhere. Nevertheless we still decided to try it out. The place inside has been refurbished well . We were with family 7 of us in total, few drinks and we decided to try some of the food, we all had different mains ,burgers / fishfinger sandwich / gammon/ pie/ haddock fish cakes and mince and dumpling. And an extra portion of proper chips ,All the food was nice nothing outstanding though but the gammon looked the better value for money as a lot of the meals were served on little metal pie plates ?I just don’t think they work really small child s size,My fish cakes were a strange texture not nice and I think they would be better served with something else other than poached eggs and broccoli sorry. And maybe a better quality bread for your sandwiches.The staff were friendly and helpful they aimed to please which is great sign .

First visit since renovation. What a lovely place, caring service and lovely well cooked meals which weren’t overcooked or bland in flavour. Prices about right, not too cheap nor rip off prices. Would come back again. Thanks so much.

I love this place, great pub, great food, dog friendly, the staff are fantastic , I can’t recommend this place enough, it’s the new community centre for Whickham

Family visit on Saturday 2nd February at lunchtime. Having visited a few times recently, we decided to pop in for a bit of lunch due to previous very positive experiences. Unfortunately on this occasion, all 3 main areas of the pub had large wall mounted TV’s showing the Newcastle Utd football match, with the volume turned up quite loud. Despite popular stereotypes, not everyone in the North East of England is a devout follower of their local football team, in fact some people don’t even like football and have other interests and hobbies! Which leads me to my point, that devoting the entire pub to the sights, sounds and smells of groups of blokes grunting at a television set is a bit excessive. It would have been nice to not have my lunch punctuated by grown men swearing loudly in front of my 8 years old daughter at 12.30 in the afternoon. There seemed little point in complaining at the time, because the match was already partway through and it seemed highly unlikely that one of the tv’s would be turned off to accommodate us.The service was efficient and friendly, the food was good for the most part except for the tuna and red onion sandwich, which came in extremely bog standard, cheap sliced brown bread. A bit disappointing.

Last minute decision to have Sunday lunch out. All meals were lovely with a great service provided by staff.

Really well done out since refit,seems disorganised,starters mostly ok but main courses average at best beef not a nice taste veg ok,watery gravy,being generous with 3 stars.

Just had Sunday lunch here today. Lovely friendly service, excellent food with good value for money. Will definitely be back. Plenty of parking available too.

Just been to The Coachman for an early evening Christmas meal with our friends (X 2 Couples). It has a great atmosphere, & the food was brilliant. Staff are friendly & attentive. Highly recommend ! 👍🏻

First time in the Coachmans since the refurb, so impressed! Lovely food, friendly staff. Excellent evening, family hasn’t met up for quite a while, one of our party is vegetarian and there were really good dishes for him to choose from. this venue made the evening perfect

Nicely situated with plenty of parking. We went for a pub meal on the steak night and it was pretty good value. On another occasion I wasn't so lucky with the pulled pork burger which was rather poor. The service however was very good.

This place used to be known as an old mans pub and if your face didn't fit.... ANWAY its been taken over, given a facelift and hey what a difference.

Called in for lunch after the recent re-fit. Everything still new and clean and a far cry from when I was a regular in the 80's! Good selection of cask and mass produced beers. Reasonable food menu and the food ordered was all cooked ok and served hot and quickly. We were there as 2 couples on a weekday lunchtime and there were not so many of us there so it was quiet but I have been told that it is manic on weekends!

Visited at 2.30 pm. Very quiet, staff were very welcoming and could not have done more to make sure our visit was a success. There were 7 of us so had a varied menu but no one complained and plates were cleared, easy access for wheelchairs. Even sell ice lollies which seemed popular with kids during hot weather. Reasonably priced and decent sized portions. Food orders stop at 3pm but dessert orders were taken at 3.30 without any difficulty. Toilets were clean and tastefully decorated as was the whole restaraunt .

Just been for second night off the belt as we enjoyed last night so much. Food was great, the decor was brilliant, staff really friendly and helpful. They are dog friendly (our 2 Cockerpoos are over the moon) and have a lovely IPA on tap what more could you want? :-)))

Visited here many times over the years and heard good things since the refurbishment. There has clearly been a lot of money spent on this pub and is now unrecognisable from previous decor. Good selection of beers, adult meals good but not excellent for the price. Felt the kids meals need improvement with the pizza just appearing to be a 50p frozen oven pizza; I will encourage the kids to try something next time. Overall though I wouldn’t mark down too much for the kids meals and 4 / 5 is fair - wouldn’t take too much to make this place excellent - a small improvement on the food and it would be top notch.

with the pub being recently refurbished we thought we would add our support. We all like the new look very much and its location makes it a good family venue too - so atmosphere it gets top marks, friendly, clean and spacious and comfy. We were however, not so impressed with the food. very small portions and basic bar foods with inflated prices. we will try it again of course to see if it is still finding its place in the market.

Just taken the parents to the Coachmans for Sunday lunch and yet again wonderful food and wonderful staff especially the young man who greeted the old lady out of her taxi showed her to her table and when the lady had finished walked her to her waiting Taxi and helped her in - in my eyes pure class and a local business that deserves to be supported

If you don't have young kids don't bother. It's full of parents with no control of their little darlings who seem to find it socially acceptable to play full on games of football in the, very full, car park as well as running riot indoors.

Visited the Coachman for the first time since the refurb. The place is unrecognizable from days gone by. I was really impressed with the decor and the ambiance.

Visited to check out pub after recent refurb. Brought wife and our two boys. Pub looks stunning a big improvement on previous decor. I’d never eaten there in past but glad I did today. My son and I had burgers, one chicken one beef. Both were really tasty, wife had steak pie which was lovely and tender, youngest had home made chicken dippers. Four clean plates and at £ 41 with a pint of lager, and three pints Diet Coke really good value for the quality of food. We will be back

Very nice interior with some dog friendly areas. Food is good value and a good selection however the vegetarian options were very limited when we visited over the opening weekend. Good selection of well priced drinks and lovely staff. The outside area looks great too.

Lovely proper Sunday lunch. Lamb lovely beef tender chicken succulent veg cooked lovely heritage carrots in mustard red cabbage broccoli roast potatoes. I had trio of meat which wasn't on menu in pub but was on line manager agreed to put it on today said it wasnt popular last week so chef took it off . Certainly hit spot . 1 starter 4 mains 4 large soft drinks £55 can't be robbed either . Staff can't do enough for you but aren't over bearing . Be nice if this place is supported by local community

Fantastic refit at the Coachmans great choice of beer's and good selection of wines very tasty well cooked food and friendly staff what more could you wish for.

The Coachman has just had a fantastic makeover and with new owners it is a welcoming asset to Whickham.

Just been revamped. £550,000 spent. Very nice. Decent meals good beer.

Awful place needs a good clean out carpets and furniture toilets are stinking So many better pubs in whickham

Visitamos el Coachman's en varias ocasiones y tiene que ser dijeron que ofrecen una buena relación calidad-precio. Nunca con hambre ya que las raciones son muy generosas y casera de microondas sin tonterías. Las dos comidas parrilla y una botella de vino por 20 libras es una ganga que la sobresaliente está siempre preparado el camino nos gusta y anillos masivos de cebolla son para morirse. El pescado y patatas fritas también es muy bueno, ya que son verdaderas fichas no congeladas o horno cocinado y la pasta en el pescado es muy sabrosa.

Cuatro de nosotros visitamos aquí para el almuerzo, normalmente es 10 libras por 3 platos, pero había una oferta en, creo que estaba a unos 7 libra (lo siento, no recuerdo exactos precio) todos tuvimos casera caldo con pequeñas piezas de pan que era precioso. Los platos principales fueron tres carne y un cerdo, olla de puré de patatas, roasties, nabo, zanahorias, guisantes de repollo, dos número de yorkies, y nuestro propio barco de salsa. Las cenas eran muy agradables, pero un poco frío en lugares, la salsa era red hot aunque, la calidad de la comida era satisfactorio. Los postres de Yorkshire estaban un poco pesado, no sé cómo consiguieron altura, los postres eran buenas, dos tenían esponja y crema pastelera treacle, buenas raciones, hermana muy caliente y sabroso tenía helado, que era muy agradable.tuve una taza de café ya que la comida era abundante. En general, la comida estaba bien, pero la comida necesita ser caliente todo, no en lugares. Nos gustaría volver a intentarlo, pero todavía no. El servicio de la camarera era excelente, hizo todo lo posible para ayudarnos
