The Coach House in North Somerset

Had a large group of 17 friends pre booked in for our Christmas party yesterday, the food choices were placed and deposits taken well in advance. One person had a starter which came out over 3/4 and hour before any of the main meals arrived. The main meals were good on the whole , but the chicken tikka masala didn't taste right (and for this reason) it wasn't eaten, it should have had cream or yoghurt in the sauce, but neither of them appeared to be present. My Mediterranean salad was mostly lettuce and had no olives or feta which are commonly used in this dish, also my tequila tiger prawns were a small portion considering the price, another of our group had a Waldorf salad which was not very large considering it was a main meal on the menu. One of our party asked if we could have some music and was told they couldn't do that, but the TVs were on and showing football, even though we didn't want to watch them, and nobody other than our group, were sat in the area.

Finally home made chips. Burger was absolutely spot on. Cracking bun and bacon in it. For pub food you won't get any better at all.

Really good service from the staff. The food overall was good. The fish and chips wasn't as good as usual. Would definitely recommend.

Had a really lovely meal for a Saturday girls catch up. Everyone was so friendly and looked happy to be there and the food was really good. I had the fettuccine special which was super tasty! The faggots and chicken tikka also looked great and very generous portions. Can highly recommend and will definitely be back for more!

This place used to be good but now it's run by Buttcombe it's gone down hill and is more expensive. As it's the only pub in Locking village it's packed with local villagers who act like they own the place. I won't be returning there.

Pleasant pub with friendly staff. A small limited menu, we had 3 meals which were well presented but there were issues with food overcooked. When advised the staff said they would let the management know. Unfortunately I won't be going back.

Just popped in for a quick bite. I had a rump steak and my partner had the chilli and both were delicious. Though they have Pepsi on tap they also sell cans of Coke/Diet Coke.

Been here a few times and I always enjoy my visits. The staff are super friendly and will help in any way they can. Their chips are lush! They present the food well and the atmosphere is great.

Good food in a rustic local pub, good drinks options too.

We have not visited before and I had heard good things about this place. I booked a table for four, four weeks previously and asked for a quiet table. I was given table 10. When we arrived we were greeted by a lovely lad who asked for our booking name. I said it and also mentioned that we were given table 10 when I rang to make the booking. A very loud female said ‘you can’t have that table, that’s for a regular’ . I questioned why I had been offered that table when I made my booking and ‘you shouldn’t have been’ was the reply from said female. We were ushered to a different table which was in a quiet area and was fine. Such a shame that person felt the need to be so abrupt, especially as it was our first visit. The food was nice, nothing special but I would hesitate to return or recommend to anyone else based on that experience.

A surprisingly large pub with extensive outdoor seating as well as lots of seating indoors. Food cooked freshly and helpings more than adequate.

Stopped over in Motorhome on route to Cornwall, phoned day before, Jess told me where to park when I arrive. Parked up staff very friendly knew we were arriving and table reserved. Dog friendly. Food was excellent we had the steak and was cooked perfectly. Good atmosphere mainly with locals. Would thoroughly recommend as stop over from J21 on M5 only a couple of miles, so easy to get back on again. Location in heart of village with plenty of parking. Good nights sleep.

Stopped by as was just passing on a Sunday, had not booked but staff found us a table for 2 Excellent food, nice atmosphere and friendly staff, good range of drinks.

Pensioner's special price deal. Excellent all round. Will revisit when I'm next in the area. Recommend other people try it too.

We were trying to find a cosy pub with a garden and found this gem in Locking. I'll be honest, from a glance at the photos, I thought it would be cheap and cheerful hungry horse type. I had 2 starving kids so we made our way over to the pub. To our surprise, they had a gorgeous pub garden in full sunshine but plenty of parasols to keep little ones in the shade. The outside is kept clean and tidy! We ordered white bait, calamari, falafel salad, scampi and chips and 2 kids meal deals (cheesy pasta). It was absolutely amazing! So good I forgot to take pictures, we ate everything. Best part is how reasonably priced the menu is! The staff and service was wonderful. Truly friendly, happy and the customers reflect the atmosphere of the place which is warm and welcoming. Thank you so much for your hospitality, hopefully see you again soon!

We have used the coach house for lunch a number of times in the past finding the seniors menus very good value. Yesterday however we noted the prices had gone up....ok so what hasn't. Unfortunately the quality has gone down in my opinion, the tomato and basil soup was so thick it could best be described as a thick tomato sauce best suited to a pasta dish, the chips whilst home cooked were bland and mostly just scraps. To top it off I made the basic mistake of asking for a bottle of Sauvignon blanc without seeing the wine list....£30 for a bottle of wine in a country pub... really!!!!! I won't be making that mistake again. Such a shame prices up quality down is not the way to encourage customers to return on a regular basis.

A large party of ~15 on a Sunday afternoon for roasts. Roast dinners were pretty good. Child's sausage and mash was awful as the sausages weren't properly cooked but they quickly fixed it. Atmosphere was good

We eat here quite often weekday evenings, but this was the first time we have tried the Sunday roast. We'll be back the food and service was amazing.

Had my Dads wake here after the funeral. Buffet was well beyond our expectations at a very reason price per head. Service was excellent. Staff went out of their way to make it a welcoming, comfortable afternoon. Everything was carried out in a very professional way and I would recommend anyone needing to book a function this is the place to book.

I have enjoyed 6 meals here over the last few months and have enjoyed every one. Idea of price £16 for an 8oz Rump Steak, with all the sides and trimmings included. Our company Christmas party was held at the Coach House, which I knew of previously, but hadn’t frequented in some while. I have to say how impressed I was with the pub. I was greeted in a very friendly manner on arriving, and can’t praise the team enough for this and the service our party were given. I also must mention the buffet provided, which consisted of a chicken curry, chilli and lasagne, all freshly prepared by the owner and chef Mark. Thank you team Coach House for making my visit to the Coach House such a great night.

Wonderful pub which is very popular with the locals so can get very busy at peak times. We had booked a table for Saturday night and unfortunately it wasn't in the diary when we arrived. However; no problem, the staff soon fund us a table and slotted us in. Nice selection of very tasty food on the menu. Good service and reasonable prices. The tables & menus could do with a better clean as everything was very sticky, but this was my only gripe in an otherwise great visit. This pub is family friendly, dog friendly, has disabled access in parts of the pub. Indoor and lots of outdoor seating. Covered areas outside incase it rains. Comfy chairs by the fire and even a large room that you can book for events. Parking available for a large number of vehicles. I will definitely recommend it to others and visit again.

Had a lovely meal at the Coach House. We didn't prebook, but there was plenty of space for us on a Thursday evening. The food was a really good price and tasted lovely. We all had a main meal each, plus a few of us had puddings too. Staff were friendly. Also enjoyed having a game of skittles in the other room!

This was a meal for our 20th wedding anniversary. Everything was excellent. Thanks to all at The Coach House.

Lovely Pre-Christmas get together with Work colleagues 🎄 Really good menu with lots to choose from.. Everyone was happy with the food,everybody's was hot and they certainly don't skimp on the size of meals Lovely attentive staff also 🙂

Our first visit for a late lunch although my wife has been once before (ladies that lunch!) and she suggested we go back as it was good. Nice atmosphere, lots of space in various different rooms and off-shoots of the main bar, friendly and obliging staff, large car park and outside seating area. Catering wise, we had the "old fogies" lunch deal which has a limited but decently varied choice - we had Prawn Cocktail, Fish (Cod) & Chips plus Scampi & Chips, Apple Pie & Ice Cream (or Custard) all of which were well cooked, hot, where necessary, very enjoyable and served on hot plates. Obviously these were smaller portions than the main menu items but for us the 3 courses @ £10 were more than enough. The chips, although not very impressive to the eye, were fantastic - best we have had in a long while! Beer seemed to be mainly Butcombe (not my favorite) but their "Stateside IPA" is very enjoyable and for an American style IPA is not too fruity and hoppy so has a good flavour balance. I thought the wine was a little expensive but as my wife loves Sauvignon Blanc, which does seem to carry a premium, then maybe not too bad. I just think paying 90% of the cost of a bottle of similar very nice wine I have in my rack at home for a 175ml medium glass is a little OTT! Perhaps I am just tight! Overall, excellent and enjoyable. We do not live that close by but we will definitely be returning soon.

Only went for a drink on Sunday lunchtime........nowhere to sit as all tables marked Reserved. Most still empty when we left. It is OK pub but there does need to be seating for those not eating 😒

Upon arrival, I was told they were fully booked although they managed to fit us in! There isn’t many country pubs that serve proper homemade chips, so Coach House is a winner! Never had a bad experience here. The chilli camembert was to die for😍

Well third time here and sad to say worst visit and won’t be back. Took my mum for dinner….mains average, dessert terrible sent back because it was cold only to be meet with rude sarcastic comments no apology at all. Surly you know how to heat custard….then leaving no friendly bye or help holding doors open.

I like good food and we have got the spot with this one. Excellent beer would have liked a guest ale but the Butcombe is well kept and spot on. We got to play skittles !!! Seriously really enjoyed my time here.

Great pub, food is always 👌 never had a bad experience here it's our go to pub if we want a decent meal at decent prices...not many around the area that are as consistent as here.

Every time I call into the coach house I find it clean. Staff friendly. Happy in their job or appears that way the food and service is very good. Again, I would recommend a visit by anybody travelling past past locking and visit the coach house

We just had a drink but the pub looked nice inside lots of tables for eating and the staff were friendly.

Nice rural pub, large garden area which was nice. Staff were friendly. Good actual parking but be aware at the entrance which is awkward due to cars parked on roadway. Food very good.

Very pleasant place to meet up with friends and have a meal. Portions were more than generous.

We called to stay here last minute as our original plans fell through, we got a space no questions asked. Upon arrival we didn’t struggle to find a space for the van, it was a big car park. There was lots to choose off the menu, we had Sunday roast and BBQ chicken which both meals were lovely, no wait on food and even our dog was spoilt with food and drink for free. Couldn’t recommend this family run pub enough, all the staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Great for campervaners!

Stopped here for dinner on the last night of our holiday in Somerset. This place is a hidden gem and the food was lovely. You could tell that the chef is passionate about food by the ingredients used, the quality of the meat and range of cuisine. Portions were plentiful and tasty and we all had full tummies. My daughter and I had curry and hubby had steak which looked really tasty. My teenage son had a burger which he really enjoyed but didn't like the skin on chips (he's fussy) two younger ones had max and cheese which came with peas and chips and my youngest ate the peas which qas a real shock as she's very fussy. Nice atmosphere too, shame we couldn'tstay longer to play darts. 4 stars for service as room for improvement in communication with young staff (not mentioning anyone in particular) otherwise everyone was friendly. Thanks would definitely come back if visiting the area again.

Amazing salad for myself and my husband's burger was immense. It was a lovely stop on our way to our holiday. It made us feel like the holiday had truly started.

Had a meal (4 people)Sat evening 22April. Food was excellent,piping hot and ample portions and reasonably priced.Although pub was busy service was quick and staff superb.Througherly enjoyable evening. Only criticism was drink prices were expensive.£19.49 for a bottle of Pinot and £5.10 for a Guinness is excessive for an independent community pub.

Recently held a wake here, staff were polite, and the buffet they put on was top drawer.

Been coming here for over 20 years, 1st time back in 6 years if not more, the place is very welcoming, lovely decor outside seating looks great, the Sunday roast wasn't as good as I hoped but would still go again

Definitely recommend for food and drinks, had a family birthday meal and the food tasted fresh and delicious. Price of food was good for the portions, not a five star because it could be more clean-i.e: tables was sticky and dust near where we were sat.

Delicious Sunday dinner with enough meat for two people in just one serving! I had the trio of meats (beef, lamb and turkey) which come with parsnip, a huge Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and lashings of gravy. You also get a bowl of cauliflower cheese and a bowl of veggies - carrots, beans etc) all of which are cooked perfectly. It’s a very homely pub, it’s a dog friendly pub, extremely courteous and helpful staff, a huge selection of beers and a lovely atmosphere….just what you want for a relaxing and enjoyable Sunday lunch. Perfect.
