I recently was lucky enough to be treated to a meal at the coach and horses and boy what a treat. I was greeted not only by a charming pub which oozed character but genuine smiles from behind the bar,the welcome was as warm as the fire that glowed. The food was absolutely delicious, and trust me this is a real understatement....proper homemade food and at exceptional prices. I went for the steak and ale pie and WOW,every mouthful was beyond mouthwatering(the pastry my golly.).horseradish laced mash and vegetables cooked to perfection. The staff went above and beyond to make our visit one to remember.I had to privilege of meeting the manager Oli and what a lovely chap he is,the staff food, service are a testimony to the hard work and dedication he must give to his job.If you get a chance I highly recommend this amazing proper pub(a rare find these days)it won’t disappoint.

Visited here last month as a family. I ordered the lamb shank for mains and salted caramel tart for dessert. The lamb shank was delicious and really enjoyable. Unfortunately, my dessert was forgotten which meant I got a free dessert! I wouldn't pick the salted caramel tart again (own preference) as this was the first time trying this type of dessert, but would definitely come back to The Coach & Horses Pub to try another dessert!Staff were friendly and overall, we did receive great service.

Been before for the Sunday lunch. Excellent. Cosy pub, with a very traditional, true brit feel. Fantastic. plus Tangle foot on tap! What more could you ask for. The food prices are reasonable. The views at the back during the summer in the beer garden are fantastic and really add to the atmosphere. A wonderful location. NOW....I ordered the pie and my girlfriend ordered the lasgne. Lasgne, burnt. Pie never came. I got sausages, so had to ask them to be taken back to the kitchen for my pie. Not great, but immediately resolved and taken away from the bill. EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. CANNOT FAULT THAT! The food, when sorted, was very good for the price; pie £13, lasage £11.....very reasonable for the quality. Recommend this pub and I will return.

We decided to walk down to one of our local village pubs for a midweek dinner, we choose the Coach and Horses on this occasion.Pub not very busy so there were plenty of free tables available. Drinks ordered at bar, my beer was an exceptionally nice seasonal pint. Food ordered unfortunately one of the specials wasn’t available.Staff very pleasant as always, our food dishes were served in approximately 20 minutes which was fine.My wife’s fish cakes were of very poor quality, they didn't appear to contain much fish so not very enjoyable, my pie wasn’t very good either they used to use beef brisket in them suggest they revert back to it. My daughters Katsu chicken curry appeared to be the best choice on the evening. Not such an enjoyable meal on this occasion.

I went to the Coach and Horses last Sunday for lunch with 22 other members of our MG Owners' Club. I understand that the current owners are relatively new but they made us all feel very welcome (even though we were a bit rowdy at times..in a good-natured way of course!!). The service was excellent and Paula, our waitress, has a great sense of humour and went out of her way to make sure we enjoyed the experience. Even to the point of arranging the chef (Caroline) to knock-up (technical term) a Jam Roly Poly just for the occasion!!! What a star! Caroline actually admitted to me afterwards that it was the first time she'd made a JRP but I awarded it 9 out of 10 as it was top-notch! All in all I'd recommend anyone to visit the Coach and Horses for a super Sunday lunch and, who knows, Jam Roly Poly might just feature on the menu once again!!

We were married in the village church and had our reception at the village hall. Prior to the service, many of our family and friends - and, indeed, the groom - met at the pub for a bit of sustenance (and Dutch Courage!). We now live a half hour ramble across the fields away on the edge of Hook and see the Coach and Horses as our ‘local’.We don’t come often enough to really be acquainted with the landlord and barmen - once a month or so. However, when we do walk over to Rotherwick, the level of welcome and service is personal, friendly, and meaningful. We particularly like to sit at the back, with a view over the fields and preferably a pint or two of something Badger, and chat the afternoon away. Like the very best establishments, this truly is a pub that truly enriches community in which it sits.

So I’ve given this a 3 but I would rate as “good” but as there is no 3.5 rating available I felt 3 more appropriate than 4.They don’t have a separate children’s menu but will smaller portions of the main menu and were able to swap mash for chips etc.We had 3 of the “mixed meat roast in a Yorkshire” which were HUGE!Cannot knock the size of the portion for the price. The quality was good, yet compared to others we’ve had, not amazing.Husbands fish and chips were good and very fresh with a light batter.Puddings took quite some time to arrive and we had to chase them up.They said because they were busy, but others ordered after us and received them sooner. I got the feeling ours got overlooked, and as the chocolate brownies were a little over baked this seemed to be the case.Still, very tasty brownies and the cookies & cream ice cream was delicious. The edges had been over done so had become quite hard - still managed to eat the lot though!I think on another day / time I may well give this place a 4 or more. You can tell they can do good food and I’m sure there are other dishes on the menu that showcase that a little better.I feel like I didn’t get the best of this place today - busy Sunday with the England game on! Will have to come back for another try :-)

My pint of Red Rye was spot on, the ladies settled on a bottle of sauvignon blanc. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Warm welcome from Landlord and locals to this dog friendly country pub which is so very hard to find these days. Good selection of well kept beers and comprehensive choice of home cooked food at reasonable prices. Will certainly visit again.

Country pub /restaurant looks lovely but so let down! Very poor across the board! It took an hour and quarter to get food, 6 of us, 2 meals cold, 2 meals lamb shank that was very tough. Asked to send back, but returned microwaved! Gravy now dried on plate, gammon now hot but all trimmings over done! We did say that we were disappointed but told that they were busy and nothing they could do! Shame the place has such great potential, were not moaners but this was a very poor meal! We paid a lot without any effort to reduce or offer towards bill as any form of compensation! We look forward to managements thoughts and comments. It's a great looking place but this was let down by slow poor service and food that was far less than standard we all want.

We were recommended this pub by a friend and was expecting high quality food and service. However our order was wrong when it arrived with one main course missing. This was rectified in reasonable time but really should have been correct in the first place. The food was well cooked and hot served on hot plates which is always a good sign. Two of us had a traditional Roast Beef dinner which was ok although the beef was a bit over done and the roast potatoes and roast parsnips and bit under done. The other members of our party had Roast Chicken in giant Yorkshire pudding. Chicken was ok but same issue with the veg. Finally one of our party had Gammon and chips which was alright. Overall the food was ok but not fantastic, service to the table was good and the staff were courteous. Not sure I would rush back for lunch although I do think trying somewhere a second time and having something different is a good rule of thump unless the food was truly awful which is not the case with The Coach & Horses. It was full and we had to book so is obviously a popular location in the lovely village of Rotherwick.

We met friends at the Coach and Horses to celebrate a big birthday of mine and what a fantastic evening we had. We felt welcomed from the minute we walked through the door, every member of staff was smiley and friendly and the food was amazing! I cannot recommend this pub highly enough. The photographs on their website just do not convey what a little gem this pub really is. We all wished this was our local, but unfortunately, we all live about an hour away. We will certainly be meeting up there again in the future. Many thanks for a great evening!

We'd booked a table for a Saturday evening dinner, it had been several months since we'd last been in for dinner. We weren't disappointed as the service, good and drinks were all first class. We decided on a large sharer for starters and then we all choose from the specials board, all our dinners were nicely presented and of excellent quality. So pleased that The Coach and Horses hadn't lost any of it's appeal, a great return visit.

Had lunch here on a miserable winters day. The pub was busy in what I would describe as typical 'English Village Pub'The staff were friendly and the lunch good. I had the Lasagne, my colleague Suet pudding, both with chips. Tasted good and hit the spot. With a couple of pints the bill was £26.I would return.

Came here on Sunday 13th which coincided with Rememberance Sunday. It was my first ever visit here. The pub was quite busy but staff made me feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The food was good, nothing special - not bad but not memorable. It was the staff that really made a difference here, they really are a top drawer bunch.

This is a great dog friendly village pub with a lovely community feel. We stopped here for lunch after a Sunday morning walk and were fortunate to get the last table! The Sunday Roast was a generous plate and although the roast beef was a little over cooked, it was still enjoyable. I noticed the little feminine touches in the ladies' room and love the little potted plants on the tables outside. There are blankets available to use on cooler evenings in the rear garden which has a lovely peaceful and panoramic outlook over fields. I will be back!

I live in the next door village of Hook and come to the Coach for a drink and/or something to eat about 2-3 times a month. My friends and I are always made to feel so welcome, as if we were drinking there every night. The general approach of the family and staff who run this pub is absolutely spot on. The food is always unpretentious, simple, good value and delicious. The atmosphere in the pub is perfect for a drink or a meal, no juke-box, fruit machine or telly. Just great food and beer and a warm welcome every time!

The food was amazing and there was plenty of it, so much so I still haven't managed to try the puddings because I'm always to full but this is my next mission next time I visit..

Went there today on the off chance passing through for my daughters 18th for lunch. Unfortunately we arrived after 2pm and the kitchen had just shut however the kitchen rustled us up 3 smashing plates of fish and chips. Fantastic food , fantastic super friendly staff and a lovely pub dog. Love this place will visit again . The view from the garden is beautiful. Such a lovely pub. Staff should be very proud of themselves, not the robotic staff you get at the Harvesters/ Befeaters etc really genuine staff.

Came for night out for friend's birthday. Sadly they had no big bottles of prosecco when we arrived but they did eventually manage to source some.Ordered the ribs which were delicious. Would definitely recommend that meal.Friend ordered red Thai curry which was to be accompanied by popadums, but they served her green Thai curry with prawn crackers, so a bit odd.Main problem was when a friend was having her coffee served to her at the table, and another member of the party came back and asked for a coffee. The young man serving us called her a name (female dog - cannot type the actual word here due to trip advisor filters and guidelines) which was very clear to hear by those of us at that end of the table. When questioned he said 'it just slipped out'When paying the bill we mentioned this to another member of staff who told us it was the owners son and nothing could be done about himDisgusting! I don't expect to go out and be sworn at by a waiter, so will never return to this pub despite the excellent food.

This was our first visit to this unpretentious well run country pub which is obviously extremely popular with the convivial atmosphere contributed to the o locals, so if you are eating it is advisable to book a table. We felt the service was a bit on the slow side visit. The food from a very extensive traditional menu was well presented, extremely hot and we all had large portions. Very much home cooking using local ingredients meant that the dishes were not fancy and overall were good value for money.

Been here for a meal three times; first time last year sensational, second time still good just one dodgy dish, this time, pretty woeful. :0/After ordering, we waited an hour for our food without being informed at point of sale that there was any wait at all, when it came I had to ask where part of the dish was as it was missing and subsequently had to be cooked and brought out five minutes later and mash was brought out instead of chips with the other meal. When the suet pudding (which looked much more like a pie than the described pudding) was cut into, it revealed it was only about a third filled, leaving a ton of pastry to get through by comparison! This wasn't made by the pub, but they should still be aware of what sort of quality they're dishing out as it reflects on them.None the less, the food WAS tasty, but it was a little odd that the staff were leaving almost all the tables dirty as they were going back in instead of doing what normally happens and taking stuff with you as you go back; we had our entire meal including wait and drink beforehand with the last customers plates & cutlery sitting next to us, and it was only a square table for four people so not spacious. When I eventually went to pay, there was nothing said to me about how the experience had panned out; the 'pie' filling, the missing food, the chips, the plates, the guy just took my card and charged it. Very disappointing, especially bearing in mind how good it was the first time we visited.Friendly staff, and it is busy with the drinks being reasonably priced, but with no incentive to return to dine again apart from past reputation, we'd only be returning in future for a beer. So, so disappointing.

I would describe my experience in the coach and horses average. The food was good enough but we waited almost an hour for our main then another 30-40 mins for our dessert, our waiter was a very cocky individual who reminded me of someone from that TV Show Made In Chelsea. The dessert however was worth the wait, all 5 dishes looked and tasted incredible.
