We had a really lovely B&B stay here. The rooms are in a separate building to the pub - so nice and quiet. Super comfy beds and cosy bed linen. The breakfast was fantastic - a perfect old school English Breakfast - with butchers sausages and black pudding, eggs cooked how you like them, hash browns, tomatoes..... Yummy. The staff made us feel very welcome and we were well looked after. They were particularly kind to our children - sorting them out with Hot Chocolates and unusual breakfast requirements. They even went to the trouble of posting home some much loved cuddly toys that had been left behind. Thank you Billy and Team.

It was the best breakfast out I've had in a long time. Good atmosphere, friendly service, a well presented, perfectly cooked plate of quality food . The black pudding so often an overcooked afterthought in similar establishments was really tasty.

I have eaten at the Coach and Horses many times but never had breakfast there before. We rectified that this morning. As I have come to expect, the breakfast was of the highest quality. Good quality food, cooked to perfection. The staff are always lovely and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. Thoroughly recommend the Coach and Horses whether it be for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Always delicious!

Lovely relaxed atmosphere, food was great and plenty of it. I had salmon with sweet potato mash and vegetables - all were cooked perfectly. Friends had lasagne and the brie wellington, and they were very pleased with what they had, too. Big portions. Ice cream was particularly good too!

Dated decor. Dated ambience. Dated food. This place might just have passed muster if it was 1975. But it isn’t. It’s 2024. Pub is like a cemetery with lights. And there aren’t many lights.

First time visitor to this pub. A great welcome by the lady Michelle. Log fire burning added to the welcoming feel. The landlord took great pride in his work and he had a great choice of beers. My purpose was to eat and I ordered Cod and chips with mushy peas. Beautifully presented with the hand-cut chips cooked to perfection (I think they were Maris Piper). The tartar sauce was home-made and the taste was more to my liking than the famous branded names. Too often in restaurants garnish can be treated as an extra of little importance and diners can invariably not bother eating it. However in this case the garnish was not to be outdone by the rest of the food and was given a deserved prominence on the plate---absolutely wholesome. Great value, most welcoming and I shall return. Visited on a Sunday lunchtime. Such wonderful ‘homely’ cooked Sunday roast. Wife had roast beef and I had the roast pork, both came with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower and of course gravy! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a homely cooked meal in a relaxed atmosphere. Will be back for sure!

With respect this public house does not really do itself any favours from the outside as there is a fairly scruffy car park with an abandoned car and a pile of old wood nearby but looks are certainly deceiving. I had the marinated steak with peppers in a Mexican sauce with rice which was sheer delightful and my dessert was spotted dick with ice cream, perhaps the best dessert I've had in a pub. My main was very spicy and full of taste and service was friendly and prompt too. A very traditional old pub which serves exceptional food and has a small bar area too. ( just tidy up a bit as the place is superb) Visited 26th May 2022 for lunch

My wife and I popped here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon for some lunch on the way home from Birmingham. My wife ordered the pork loin with a drizzle of sweet and sour sauce , which was on the specials. I ordered the burger. When both dishes came the pork was swimming in the sauce and the burger was dry. The pork it’s self was tasteless and the sweet and sour sauce tasted of nothing. The burger was okay but the meat was dry. The chips it was served with were the best part of both meals. We came to the pub for Sunday lunch a couple of years ago and the food was far better. Unfortunately we won’t be retuning again. Such a shame.

In this day and age, I was very surprised to find no mention of special diets on your menu, despite the law requiring this to be mandatory. The chef offered to make a main course gluten-free but there was no dessert available at all. As a clinically diagnosed Coeliac, there is no cure. The only option is to eat a gluten free diet. It is not a choice and it is essential to my health. Sadly, my visit was reminiscent of when I was diagnosed 23 years ago, when there was less awareness of the condition. Incidentally, it is Coeliac Awareness Week from 9-15 May!

Before I start I'd like to say I have eaten at the Coach & Horses a number of times before and had always enjoyed their food but had not tried their Sunday lunch. Unfortunately, on Sunday 2nd May we chose to try it for the first time, and definitely the last. I'm generally fairly forgiving with food and it doesn't have to be top notch to satisfy me, but it does have to be decent and edible. I chose the roast sirloin of beef. I was presented with a large plate containing two slices of meat with a Yorkshire pudding, mash, Roast potatoes, roast parsnips, carrots and cabbage, with plenty of gravy (which I usually don't get enough of but there was plenty here). Looking at the plate, it seemed like this would be an enjoyable dinner. As I started to (try to) cut one of the slices of beef, it became evident that under the gravy these slices of beef were riddled with gristle and fat. The meat was difficult to cut and after separating the meat form the gristle, there was probably only about half left. However, the meat that was left was extremely chewy and tough. I tried to persevere with it but had to eventually give up and left about a quarter of it with the pile of offcuts already on the side of my plate. But this isn't the end of my bad experience. The parsnips were so undercooked I couldn't get my knife through them so they were basically inedible. The roast potatoes were nice and crispy, but on eating them it became obvious the kitchen had cheated somewhat and deep fried them to make them crispy I reckon. You could taste the fat which gets soaked up in the deep frying process (I apologise to the kitchen if I'm wrong but this is how they seemed). The Yorkshire pudding was lovely and the rest of the veg was ok, bit overall this was the most disappointing Sunday lunch I think I've ever had. When the waitress asked how our meal was, I was honest and said it was disappointing, explaining that the beef was extremely tough and far too gristly and chewy. She said she was sorry and scuttled off I assumed to the kitchen. She didn't re-appear though, and about 5 minutes later another waitress asked if we would like anything else. We were on our way somewhere and had cake to deliver which we knew we would be served a slice of, so we declined sweet and asked for the bill, which was duly delivered with no offering of explanation, apology or disappointment consolation discount. I wasn't looking for anything to be knocked off the bill, but it seems that they didn't know how to handle even a polite complaint like this one. Customers won't come back without some recognition of their dissatisfaction. Even offering some consolation like "would you like a pudding or coffee on us", even though we would not have taken it up, it would have been enough to satisfy that our dining disappointment had been acknowledged. Sorry Coach & Horses, you’ve lost a couple of customers here, I don’t think we’ll be back again.

5 of us ate at this pub in the same social bubble. We all had starters and they were not good and tiny. The main courses were even worse. Chicken Wellington had raw pastry ok the bottom and was tiny along with boiled carrots and cabbage. The Szechuan pork looked like a starter, the lamb dish had 4 chunks of lamb in and it was one of the worst meals I’ve had! I can’t get my head around the prices they charge aswel. I’ve eaten in some lovely London puns cheaper! Avoid avoid avoid

I have visited The Coach and Horses twice, both earlier this year before lockdown. Both times I left staggered at how poor the food was. The pub itself is dated, tired and several years overdue at least a thorough redecoration. It has an awkward layout meaning we had to squeeze past drinkers at the bar in order to get to the dining area. The dining area smelt of old dogs. The first time i went with my wife for lunch. I ordered the steak sandwich whilst she asked for a basic omelette. The steak tasted like it had been cooked for a week and astonishingly they had managed to undercook the omelette. Despite that experience we returned with our kids a few weeks later out of desperation as we didnt have any food in the house and we thought we should give it a second chance. What a mistake. Unfortunately our previous experience was repeated. I ordered the curry which i would have been disappointed with if i had bought from the value section of Happy Shopper. My sons chicken baguette actually contained off chicken and was inedible. If you are happy with very low quality cheap(ish) food then maybe you wont be disappointed. In my opinion, I am sorry to say, the food was simply awful and if we ever forget to get food in for dinner we’d rather go hungry. Avoid.

There needs to be a level of understanding here, as I leave my review for others to read. Pubs have just opened after lock down. There are odd processes to deal with which adds to the challenge. I respect any company that is clearly doing their best. That being said there is still a fair assessment to be made of the meal my wife and I have had at the Coach and Horses in Brixworth. First observation- it appears that a lot of the meal we ate, including dessert was heavily reliant on a microwave!I had the duck with egg fried rice. Very tasty, the sauce wasn’t too strong and went well with the duck. The rice was freshly prepared and was nice. Wife’s chicken pie was microwave fresh but tasty. The chips were perfect as you would expect from a good pub. For dessert I had the lemon meringue pie. Pretty awful. The lemon element was claggy and tasted pretty horrible. Struck me as a packet bought pie and tasted like one too. Shame. Wife had spotted dick with custard. Again, fresh from the microwave and was heated to within an inch of its life. Was ok. Service was great. Wasn’t busy but the staff were still very attentive and friendly. I’ve eaten here before, and the food has been previously very good. I put this experience down to ramp up problems and I’ll be straight- I don’t care. They are open and serving people and I won’t hold any of my criticisms against them. I’m certain things will get back in track in time and I take my hat off to them for keeping things going. At the end of the meal the staff asked if everything was ok and I said it was. I stand by this and this review is just a fair review, it’s not a complaint and we will be back.

Its probably fair to say this tradition country pub is rather small but cozy not cramped. Its over 300-years-old as a bed, board and food hostilely and acts its age, a maze of pokey busy rooms to pick your way through and the pub not much bigger than a four bedroom house. Because of that there is not much of an eating area in the winter and so best to book ahead, barely 8 tables, locals supping pints at the two small bars as the waiting- staff and landlord weave their way around the locals elbows, one or two items or cutlery and china going down while we were there. The onsite car-park was not a lot bigger so be prepared on a cold winters night to find a spot elsewhere. The pub was known in 'oldy worldy' times as the fastest in the land to turn around the coach and horses that raced through these parts of Northamptonshire on the way to Old Londinium.....and beyond. The waitress we had was almost as fast and clearly well drilled at catering college with polite and efficient service, and a good looking lass to boot.We were a party of five in the eating room and the food was mid-range fancy fair (smaller portions for more money) . The starters were six or seven quid and not the biggest portion . My ribs came from a cow from the dust ball and ready for the vultures by the looks. My main meal was duck with a ginger and honey sauce with a side order of rice and peas. They never say what type of duck we eat in restaurants and one can only assume it was a mallard, maybe off the nearby Pitsford Reservoir. I'm joking! It was a pleasant eat but not the biggest of portions, at £16 somewhat over-priced, dare I say it. But you expect to pay a little bit more when its not Hungry Horses night with the proles. So summing up a nice country pub to go to for an intimate atmosphere and good food. A meal for all five cost us £!30 and the bar nice and close. Its near the F1 factory and the nearest pub to Althorp House and so the locals have good gossip.

Following the positive reviews on this site we called in for lunch on a horrible wet day and were made instantly welcome and rapidly felt quite at home. This was increased by the wide choice of gins in the bar (blood orange and pink grapefruit sampled and delicious) and by a very broadly based menu which contained all the usual pub elements. We shared the whitebait starter (crispy as advertised and bags of flavour). My wife went for the cod mornay and pronounced it excellent, clearing her plate. I decided on the chicken, bacon and leek pie which was hand crafted, flavoursome and very filling. Dare I say very well priced too. We will definitely return.

The Coach and Horses is a cosy, friendly thatched pub in the beautiful village of Brixworth. We booked an overnight b&b; there but later wished we’d stayed longer as the accommodation was excellent. The bedrooms are in a characterful house across the courtyard from the pub and they are very comfortable. Our room had a bright, clean en-suite with good shower and a window (I prefer natural light in a bathroom!). We had dinner in the pub, which was excellent and plenty of it. Full English breakfast costs a bit extra, but included in the b&b; price are cereals, fruit juices, yoghurts, fruit and toast. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and we were made to feel relaxed and “at home”.

We phoned at 12.15 on the Bank Holiday Sunday in the hopes of getting a table. We were quickly booked in for 1.30 which was a pleasant surprise. On arrival we were greeted immediately and allowed to select a table. Decor is perhaps slightly tired, but it didn't spoil our enjoyment of this beautiful old inn. We ordered drinks which came pretty much immediately, then ordered food. I had the Sunday roast beef and my son had lasagne with salad and chips. The food arrived within 10 minutes - very impressive - and it was absolutely delicious. Every element of the roast beef was perfectly cooked and the lasagne was properly 'home made', cut from a larger dish rather than an individual portion. My son was delighted with it. We didn't have room for desserts but will certainly return very soon - a lovely place for a relaxed Sunday lunch!

Still suffering from post xmas roast dinner overload we both chose the bacon cheese burger with chips. The chips were just like they were from a chip shop and the burger was lovely and fresh. With such a large portion we were soon satisfied so settled the bill, which for a village pub seemed a little steep at £38 for two burgers and Colas, but left happy to return again in the future. #burger #coachandhorses #pubgrub #foodie #foody #instafood #restaurantreview #englishpub

Having just arrived for a 2 week visit to brixworth we were looking for an early dinner and unaware of hours when meals are served in English pubs, we thought we would try this pub. It was 4 pm - not a soul in the place. We were greeted however by the cook. Owners were on holiday (apparently business is typically slow this time of the year). All that he could offer was fish n chips so we agreed. It was ok. Being from Canada we are not used to fish n chips done with the skin on. No matter, we still ate it. It was ok. Bit pricey. I had a pint of beer...my husband 1/2 pint. Bill came to 35 pounds. We didn’t return to see if they would be better 2nd time around.

We were met by a woman when we walked in who had noticeably been drinking who we didn't know who was asking if we wanted to eat. I presume she was the landlady. My partner ordered a T bone steak which was a bad cut, was all fat and very hard to cut through so we sent it back and had apology from the waiter saying he would get another as he agreed with us. Unfortunately it was the last T bone so we were offered an alternative. Then the landlord came to our table and proceeded to tell us that there was nothing wrong with the steak and he will cook it again and show us!! 1. If someone is not happy you apologise and rectify 2. Do not patronise and Cook the steak again! The landlord came back out with the steak which had obviously been washed due to sauce and argued with my partner at the table! This man is extremely RUDE and unprofessional!! We left immediately due to the service which is disgusting. I would not recommend this place at all.

The menu has an excellent selection but was disappointed with the Sunday lunch due to the soggy Yorkshire puddings. That said the service was very good.

We went intending to elect off their excellent value 2 courses for £7 menu. It was difficult to resist the excellent Full menu available. The food came promptly and was very well presented. Quality was great and portions good too.Atmosphere lacking slightly due to no other diners but pleased with first visit.Wine list expensive for label choices available.

A warm and quaint watering hole. A rustic and earthy smell greeting me upon arrival. Possibly radiating from an older gentleman in the corner. Approaching the bar I requested a tall glass of lancaster bomber. To which the barmans face was blanked with bemusement. And he replied 'we dont have any crabbies'.... TREACHERY!!!! After some guidance from the young fellow adjacent i was greeted with my fine ale. Sumptous and refreshing to the last sip. Pleasant outdoor seating area with cusions for a tired travellers rump. All in all a positive experience. Offering and insight into the seventeenth century and the times subsistence farming. E.N. & T.R.

My husband and I love this pub.... the food is always cooked to perfection and we can always guarantee a warm welcome. Whenever we bring friends to eat they always say what a lovely traditional and friendly pub it is. I have also had family stay in the B & B when they come to visit us and they speak very highly of the accommodation and of course the breakfast.. My Thanks go to Anthea and Les for a great village pub ....

Haven't been to the pub for food for ages but decided to book a table for Sunday lunch as my mother was up to stay for the weekend. All four meals were great. Well presented, extremely tasty and plenty of it. The blade of beef was excellent, so was the Sunday roast. Also the Wainwright was well worth sampling.

Visited today with my Mum. Thankfully the lunch menu is just £6.95 for two courses, as I would have been gutted if I'd paid any more. I had steak and ale pie with chips. The pie pastry was soggy and it had so obviously been microwaved. The chips were oven chips and not very good ones at that. My mum had the vegetarian pancake which she said was 'ok'.The restaurant was chilly and lacked any atmosphere. We will not be returning unfortunately.

Our daughter and future son in law will hopefully move to Brixworth in July so I wanted to start checking out the local facilities. I said we'd just go for a drink but we walked into the Coach & Horses restaurant side. They'd had a cancellation and we suddenly found ourselves at a reserved table straight away. Great Wainwright beer, nice house red and 4 superb meals: Thai curry, fish and chips, lamb chops and beef. The best meals out we've had for some time and huge. Very relaxed atmosphere. Really good, friendly and attentive service. So glad future son in law was driving home. We need to check out the other 2 establishments we've seen but we will definitely be back to the C&H soon

A lovely village pub with open fire. Especailly when u get the table in front of it on a cold winters night.Food a little on the expensive side for a village pub although was enjoyable and plenty. The real ales were very good.Appearred to be over staffed however seemed to be a very popular place to eat.. so assume must get very busy as evening progresses.Overall very good and will return.

Our kitchen is being refurbished so we decided to take in a local eatery. It's a lovely old pub with a real local feel. The food was freshly cooked though my husband had expected vegetables with his pie and just got peas and a rather inappropriate salad. My jumbo cod was exactly that.

Cannot speak more highly of this place and how great Les and Anthea's hospitality is. I've stayed here a few times now with friends and it's never let us down. Would definitely recommend to anyone. From a well laid out bedroom with all the necessities provided. To a fantastic cooked breakfast custom made ready for you by Anthea or Les in the morning. It's a perfect way to start any day. Even if there is no plans to do anything with the day. It's a great pub to just chill out an watch the world go by. All the staff are friendly and very helpful. All the local customers are very friendly too and make you feel more welcome to the area. The beer garden is well looked after and is a great place to sit out in the sun all day till the late evening. We've all had various options off the food menu and cannot complain. Food was well presented and very tasty indeed. The location is perfect too as there is a few nice walks to go on around the area. And not too far of a drive from the nearest motorway. Looking forward to our next visit in July this year 2017.

When entering i found it really awkward as it seemed every member of staff was just hanging around staring me and my family down but we got taken to a really pleasant booth. I have to say that the way the specials menu is presented was annoying and inconvenient as it was on a board right behind another table with very small writing and hard to read around the corner without getting up and peering over another table, just irritating. Ordered our starters, our waitress was sweet but seemed like she was new as she was quite timid and didnt really talk to us. One of our starters did not come until all of the rest were basically eaten and we found it hard to get down a member of staff to let them know we hadnt received it as the starters were placed down then we never saw our waitress again. Just an apology when they found out. The starters were delicious all round and so were the mains and desserts. For 5 people the bill came to over £120 for 4 starters, 5 mains and 2 desserts.. seemed like an awful lot to me but it was tasty and i couldnt fault it. The toilets were also pretty run down and freezing cold. I'd maybe go again just for the food but nothing you couldnt really get anywhere else for cheaper (meat pies, fish and chips, steaks ect) but there were also some unique items. Quite disappointed but am willing to give a second chance.

Positives. We were welcomed by two young lads behind the bar on arrival. A credit to the pub. They were very polite and attentive. The open fire looked inviting.Negatives.We felt a chilly breeze on our legs and back during the meal as the main door didn't seem to stay closed. Even though we were sat right next to the fire we couldn't really feel the heat. This was very off putting when all we wanted to do was enjoy a nice evening meal in front of the fire and feel warm. If we weren't cold enough a trip to the toilets certainly were a reality check! The toilets felt like they were in an old shed/stable. We have never felt so cold when going to the toilet. The seats were ice cold. Apart from the hand dryer there was no sign of any heating what so ever. The food was very average and didn't really reflect the pricing. Our coats now smell like a chip pan from being on the back of our chairs. Not good. It's very unfortunate but we won't be visiting again. Went back out into the cold night feeling disappointed and freezing

My family were visiting so we went for a Sunday evening meal. We were seated by a roaring fire in the bay window. We eat here relatively regularly, but I tried the "Salt Beef" from the specials board for the first time. I still think the blade of beef is the best thing on the menu but this is not far off that mark.Recommended

We stayed here 2 nights and found everything to be perfect. The room was to a high standard 4star ETB and well equipped and decorated also to a high standard. The owners obviously cared about the property and the outside seating area was ablaze with flowers and was a lovely place to sit and relax. We could see why they had won an award for their breakfasts and the evening meals we had were to just as good a standard with very generous portions. We will certainly be pleased to recommend the Coach and Horses.

On calling into the Coach and Horses for Sunday lunch I ordered the beef. The meat was so tough and stringy as to be inedible. I told the waiter as much merely to be informed that 'He would tell the chef'. Fat lot of good that was. My better half had the pork which was fine but, on ordering the profiteroles, they turned up with ice cream and a squirt of artificial cream....never seen that before. On expecting some form of redress for having left all my meat, when telling the waitress with the bill that we were not happy, she simply said 'Sorry about that' and proceeded to charge us the full price. Pure lip service. Won't be visiting there again!

We chose The Coach & Horses to meet up with friends for lunch because of the location & the very good write-ups. The lunch-time offer of 2 courses for £6.95 is an extremely good deal, with no compromise on quality or quantity; in fact we struggled to finish it all. This offer is understandably limited in choice but there are plenty of alternatives on the bar, specials & main menus. The place has a relaxed & friendly country pub feel and the staff and service were excellent. Will definitely go back.

After a pleased game of golf at Cold Ashby Golf Club three villages away from the Coach & Horses I and three business collegues visit this quaint thatched roofed pub in the historic Village of Brixworth for dinner, I had their special Beef Wellington which I must say was the best I had ever had with wine recommended by the very helpful Landlady which was reasonable in price and very nice, my starter was a creamed mushrooms not on the menu but made especially for me by Les the Landlord, two of my colleges were stay their and I joined them for a breakfast meeting the next morning and what a breakfast we had, I found all the food extremely good as was the service and very good value for money, we will be back!

I thought I would try this pub one more time seeing as it's the only one in the village yet again the nasty individual thatworks/runs this sespit was at it again. This time it was a lone man. Absolute disgusting behaviour. Why is the brewery employing someone who knows nothing about hospitality or village live. Time to boycott till the brewery steps in.

We booked for 7.30pm for 4 including our two guests. We shared two starters which were both very good. Of our four main dishes, one was mediocre and for the other we asked for the dip to be on the side only. It wasn't and the dish was rejected. It returned quickly, which made me wonder how it could have been recooked. Neither of the two waiters checked if it was OK. There were no specials which I like to choose from and the massala fries only had a sprinkling of salt and pepper. We were given dessert menus but the waiter did not return for the order. We had to come to the bar for the bill. On leaving, we noticed the waiters were busy cleaning another room. It's unlikely we will return, particularly with guests. If you needed us to leave at a certain time, you could have advised us when we booked on the phone. Meal with 2 alcoholic and 2 soft drinks £107 plus service. NB This is the response we gave to an email requesting feedback. We had a reply saying it would be investigated and we will receive a response but nothing.

Phoned ahead to make sure that the pub was wheelchair accessible, and could also accommodate a mobility scooter. Was assured on the phone that the pub was accessible with a ramp at the rear of the pub. On arrival we found that the accessible entrance wasn't as it first appeared. The ramp was fine, but the the actual entrance into the pub had what can only be described as a metal bar at the bottom of the doorframe in the entrance. This was to high for my electric wheelchair to safely drive over without causing damage to the chair. Equally the mobility scooter would have the same problem. The two members of staff that happened to be outside at the time were very blasé about the issue. Is the purple pound not good enough for this establishment? Such a shame, because it actually looked like a nice pub! Yet again, another business that has an archaic attitude towards disabled customers.
