What a let down on all aspects. Tiny room, dusty kettle, inside pourer too. Chipped furniture, tiny bathroom, horrible view of the top of the kitchen, noisey fans and clanking of pots and pans, and smells. Was told we couldn't dine in restaurant as full, only to find out after we had trecked off somewhere else in torrential rain, and two dogs in tow, that the hotel was quite happy to feed the regulars, but not the residents, disgusting. Staff acted as if you didn't matter, and the breakfast so mean one tiny sausage on the cooked breakfast, and had to share a tiny bottle of juice for two. A case of all fur coat and no kickers, as the saying goes!! four star you must be joking, All show and no do!

I had a dinner date here on a wonderful summers evening very recently. Upon driving to the hotel through country lanes, you could be forgiven for thinking you were entering a film location. To The Manor Born, Upstairs Downstairs or even Brideshead Revisited spring to mind. The hotel is situated in idyllic surroundings. the restaurant and bar were particularly quiet on Saturday night. The Bar staff and waitress were excellent and gave you the royal treatment from start to finish. For the main, I ordered the rack of Herefordshire lamb, spinach, green beans, dauphinoise potatoes, rosemary and gravy. My date ordered exactly the same. I was tempted by the sea bream but the lamb it was. In preparation, we ordered two gin and tonics, and were also given complimentary small cherry stuffed tomatoes with cheese and pesto. The dishes were served fifteen minutes later and were delicious. The lamb was cooked to perfection, succulent, and a medium rare finish. The gravy was rich in taste and the greens, crisp and crunchy. I thoroughly enjoyed it and ordered two more gin and tonics whilst I sat back and soaked up the ambience of the dining room. The young waiter was extremely polite and friendly. For desert, I chose the chocolate ganache and cherry ice cream. This indeed was very rich and textured. It was very cold, so obviously chilled so the ice cream didn't melt immediately. The cherry ice cream was sweet and one scoop was all it needed to perfectly balance the rich velvety taste of the ganache. We went to the bar and chatted for a while after the meal. The décor was very traditional and pleasant, highly recommended.

Stayed for a few days, walking distance into town was up hill but not a problem for us. The room was quite cold considering it was early March & the stairway up to the room had a strange smell. The 1st breakfast was so salty it was not very pleasant ( haddock & scrambled egg ….& poached egg & mushroom) all other breakfast & the 2 evening meals we had were, however, delicious

Just had our fifth meal at The Cliffe since moving into the area. It was a six course tasting menu. Every course was excellent - a big well done to the chef. The pan fried cod was superb … and the presentation of all the courses excellent. The staff were friendly and efficient. Excellent value for money . We will return!!

We came as a group of four and ordered three courses, all of which were excellent, however, the evening was spoilt by the very poor training of your staff. At a resaurant of this calibre, I do not expect waitresses to refer to us as 'guys', as in 'Hi guys, how are you doing? Food ok?' This approach is what I might expect in a cafe, but not in a good restaurant. After we had eaten dessert, another young waitress came over and said, "D'you want tea or coffee?" That is not the way to ask! Please train your staff in how to speak to customers. I left feeling annoyed and slightly insulted.

I booked this hotel after looking at earlier reviews I was expecting a lot more. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly receptionist, and was told the town was about 15 minutes walk away true it may be , if you are very fit but the hill was far too much for us ,so if you are in later years you need to be fit. We booked evening meal, but the menu had nothing that we really liked so we made do , hoping the breakfast would be better. Alas their rare breed sausage is not as good as others I have tasted and I defy anyone to cut the smoked bacon with a knife. The plus point, the bed was very comfortable and the cottage was well equipped with a good walk in shower.

Having read the rave reviews I was very disappointed, as was my companion, with our Monday lunchtime meal on a very hot day. After ordering sea bass 25 minutes later I was told it wasn't available as there was something wrong with the fridge and the fish was still frozen solid! I then chose the fillet steak which I asked to be well done. When our meals arrived my steak was very very dry, the chips tasted very odd and were not cooked through properly. We then sat outside on the terrace with others on very hard metal chairs and were only brought the cushions for them when someone else complained. All in all not a good experience for the price.

Came across this place during a stroll on a sunny Friday lunch time. The was very pleasant and put cushions and an umbrella outside for us . We were the only customers and just wanted s snack and a drink . Our sandwiches ( one BLT and one Welsh rarebit ) were very disappointing and overpriced for what we got . On the plus side the accompanying chips which we hadn’t really wanted were home made and delicious. The waitress and ?possibly the manager offered us a complimentary dessert or coffee when we expressed our disappointment

This restaurant with rooms is in a lovely quiet setting close to Ludlow town centre and has ample parking. The ground floor rooms, a bar, dining room and breakfast room are pleasantly decorated. However, we couldn’t say the same about the deluxe King-sized room we booked. Room 5 is quite basic and decorated with old wood-chip wallpaper which appears to be keeping the plaster in place in some places. The bathroom is basic and in need of a full refurbishment. There was only a bath and no option for a stand up shower which was annoying given the hot weather we enjoyed during our stay. We had dinner on the first night, limited menu but the rack of lamb was tasty. I was put off the steak option as I was told that there was no sauce option with it. What AA rosette chef can’t provide sauce for a steak? The real issue we had though was with the lack of ambience/warmth in the place. The staff members were all polite and mostly efficient but all of those we encountered only communicated when they needed to i.e. to take an order, put down food. Another niggle was having to ask on two evenings for the cushions for the patio chairs so we could sit out and have a drink (chairs uncomfortable without). The cushions were stacked up behind a door inside even though the sun was shining and the likelihood was people may want to sit out. No one passed the time of day with us, or anyone else as far as we could tell. No one made small talk about where we were going/had been, or to make recommendations, etc. When we checked out we weren’t asked if we’d had a good stay. It was as if no one really cared whether or not guests felt welcome or their custom appreciated. This place could be so much more but as it is we wouldn’t return.

I booked this hotel in January for my friend and I to have a May break of 4 days. I was attracted by its situation and the fact it had free parking, plus it looked really nice from its photos. It is a nice place to stay and the room was ok, but quite basic. The bathroom was good apart from the shower caddy which was completely rusty on the bottom and it looked awful in what is a lovely, roomy shower. The staff were all very welcoming and pleasant. My criticism is with the menu and the price of the dishes on it. The menu was the same for the 4 days we were there and there were only a few choices. The sea bass was delicious but was priced at £22 and the Halibut was £25. There were a few starters including soup and mussels ( very tasty). Vegetables were charged as side dishes and so were the chips. The wine selections were expensive too. I ordered the Gnocchi on Wednesday night which was billed ast Blue Cheese gnocchi, there was no blue cheese in it at all and they were like mini dough balls, I couldn't eat them all they were too heavy. The car park was a good size and the patio had tables and chairs for visitors to use, but you had to ask for the cushions. The external appearance could have been more appealing with flower tubs at the front and there is no garden to sit in, but an area of grass that could be made more of, there is the space. The crowning glory of the hotel is their breakfast which was wonderful with several choices and, of course, a full English which was excellent. If I was ever in Ludlow again I think I would choose somewhere else that was hopefully less expensive. But each to their own.

Saturday night, couple’s weekend away. A nice evening but nothing special and a lacking in some ways. Service friendly but a bit chaotic and clearly not properly under control. Decent mussels starter, but £30 fillet steak main not brilliantly done. Closer to medium than medium rare as ordered, weirdly dry presentation with no jus or anything else at all, and triple-cooked chips limp and simply not good enough. Cocktails to start and reasonably priced wine- £130 or so. Compare this with The Oak Wigmore the previous night and it’s not in the same class.

Very good Sunday lunch for 4 of us. A family get together. Lovely, light dining room. The beef was well cooked lots of veg - extra arrived on table which was nice. I could have certainly eaten more roast potatoes because they were tasty and the Yorkshire pudding was huge. It’s very clean here. The staff were polite, attentive and efficient. I will certainly come back. It’s quite modern inside but has retained a friendly atmosphere. Plenty of parking and the location is very open and green. It’s on the outskirts of Ludlow down a small lane. The only (tiny) thing I didn’t like was being moved after we finished our meal into the bar/hallway to sit there. Two of us sat on a small settee and the others had hard dining chairs around a coffee table whilst we had our coffee. We were last diners and I appreciate they wanted to clear the table but it didn’t feel comfortable.

A 20 minute walk from Feathers hotel, Ludlow. It's dark so take a torch or phone to light the way. Dining room is a rather stark conservatory but comfortable enough. The menu was very adequate for most tastes and the food was delicious. We had no starter. I had perfectly cooked and tender loin of venison and my daughter the same quality fillet steak. I finished with poached pears, which was very good. The wine list has a comprehensive range of wines at a variety of prices. Our red, at the cheaper end was really nice and paired well with the red meats. Service was friendly and timely.

....which surprised us given the gushing reviews.Firstly, whilst we appreciate the safety measures in place in relation to COVID-19, is it really necessary to be greeted with shouty signs DO NOT APPROACH THE BAR? Surely a polite notice would have been more acceptable. We all get it.We ate in a room that can only be described as sterile. We had the tasting menu (nothing else available apparently, pity we weren’t informed of this when we booked). We opted for the wine flight. Unfortunately, everything felt rather rushed, and we struggled to drink our wine before the next course arrived. We weren’t bowled over with the food, finding some courses lacking refinement. The crab was nice, but was served on a stodgy little scone. To be frank, we were still hungry when we got home.I don’t like posting negative reviews, but based on our experience we wouldn’t rush back.

Evening dinner... this review is based on our experience for evening dinner and not the accommodation, that’s on a separate review. The food was excellent after ordering our meals we were served with some canapés, an unexpected delight. The food was phenomenal, it was really good and I have no complaints... However, the retro design does not fit with the finesse of the food presented. The water jugs and glasses look like something you could pick up from IKEA, my red wine was served in a white wine glass of cheap quality, also I noted that the table across from us was served white wine which was poured in a vase instead of being left in the ice bucket. I would only expect red wine to be decanted in a decanter and not a vase! The last time I was ever served white wine in the jug was in Spain after ordering a menu del dia! I’m certainly eaten in some fine restaurants, but found it very difficult to comprehend the ambience of furnishings and styling.

For the past 2 decades Ludlow has been living on the ruins of its reputation as a leading foodie town. Too many chefs left in search of stars and not enough came to repopulate the gastro landscape. Finally things are changing though. In the very very good category: at one end is the high-faluting Mortimers, at the other the marvellously relaxed C&sons (ex Green Café) who work miracles, curating and riffing on beautiful ingredients. I would now add the Cliffe at Dinham to this category, though with a bit of caution. It would also sit nicely in the middle in terms of ambience. We have just had a very welcome new experience. New only for us who, as jaded and slightly cynical locals, had pretty much given up. The Cliffe has been going for a while, but keeps refining its offer. Which is just as well: we had a fantastic meal, but with almost too many flaws. So this review just aims to be constructive, as all the mistakes would be easily remedied. My starter of crab on corn muffin with grilled corn was delicious and fun, but it was also a bit dry - just a smattering of butter on the muffin or more dressing ? The main of Shropshire beef came beautifully cooked on an extremely delicious and moorish sauce of black garlic and anchovies. But the dish was almost COLD and there wasn't enough of the sauce - is it too much to ask to bring the dishes out nice and hot? The dessert of poached peaches with fennel sorbet and vanilla ganache was one of the best desserts I've had in years, but it looked a mess, just pilled at the bottom of a bowl - easy to make it look as good as it tastes no ?So please Cliffe just get these few things right and you'll make Ludlow proud again.

Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. The room had a very large comfortable bed, a rather pokey bathroom but a great view of the castle. The cooked breakfast was rather spartan and the toast was was about the size of one standard slice cut into 4 pieces - for 2 people. We had one evening meal. The food was decent for the most part but I agree with someone else's comment of "pretentious". If you randomly stabbed dowñ with your fork you were far more likely to hit the plate than the food. Despite ordering a portion of chips I left the room hungry. Speaking of the chips, how can you triple cook something and it is still not cooked properly? We got the feeling that everything served up had been weighed first and costed to the nearest penny. It really doesn't cost much to provide a decent quantity of vegetables or bread with the soup or toast with the breakfast.

The staff are very friendly and very helpful and the food is very good, the hotel is in beautiful settings and we enjoyed champagne on the terrace, it was simply magical.

Set in a beautiful location this establishment provides a wonderful backdrop for lunch. Staff were friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. The menu is simple with plenty to choose from. The plates for each course were a picture and were a pleasure to eat, the flavours fresh and tasty. Each course was superb, this lunch was a real treat and will be repeated very soon!

We were are party of five celebrating two birthdays. The staff realised this and put birthday decorations on the serviettes - a very nice touch. After we had ordered, two more friends came in, and the waitress happily moved a table so that they could join us. Two of the group chose the Veloute as a starter and praised it. For the main course I chose Blade of Beef with Garlic Mash which was well presented and very tasty. A vegetarian enjoyed the Celeriac and Apple Risotto and the pan fried Sea Bass was also praised. The sweets were also excellent, and I enjoyed the Star Anise Crème Brulee with Rhubarb and Ginger. This was an excellent meal in pleasant surroundings with first rate service. As well as the attractive restaurant, there is also a conservatory with additional tables.

Dinner with my wife where we had a most warm welcome, excellent meal and first class service. We were most impressed on our first visit and will definitely return as well as highly recommend The Cliffe. Our food was delightfully presented, cooked exceptionally well and featured excellent ingredients. The whole ambiance added to a very enjoyable dinner. Thank you to all for the dinner.

We enjoyed a very pleasant Sunday lunch in relaxed, attractive surroundings. The choices were limited, but eerything we ordered was beautfiully prepared. My husband's main complaint about the ham terrine starter was the portion size - it was almost too generous for a starter! The highlight of the meal for me was the roast potatoes - fluffy, crunchy, and probably the best I've ever had.

A Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday. Very nice location with a nice drive down passed the Castle. The booking didn't seem to work through open table - good job I phoned and confirmed!

Unfortunately, although our meal was delicious and the waiting staff were brilliant, friendly and efficient, my lasting memory of the evening will be of the horribly rude lady that settled our bill. I don't think she's even heard of the phrase 'customer service'.

Cancelled reservation even though we called to try to warn we would be 10 minutes late - transpired kitchen closed some time earlier. Surly and unhelpful manageress.

Dining at the finer end of the culinary spectrum is a rare event for us. As such we want a meal that is worth what we pay and which we could not produce at home. Each of the four of us enjoyed the offerings here. My venison was succulent with tasty accompaniments. Both the Sea Bass and the Sole were reported as excellent, and the risotto, eaten by an aficionado of that dish was the best he had ever tasted.

A collection of friends and two small children so it was important to get the right table and placing. Both fully accomodated and with a good menu where out of 7 adults, all starters were tested and 4 of the main courses, every one very pleased with meal quality and quantity.

A large group (11) of us attended Sunday lunch at the Cliffe. Whilst the menu was pretty limited the short choice was adequate and all of it was well cooked and served (the exception being the Treacle Tart which was poor. The atmosphere in the busy, airy dining room was good - sadly we were there on a day when the bar area was turned over to a rather too loud Jazz band and so seats for pre or post luncheon drinks/coffee were very limited. Notwithstanding this, we would return in future encouraged by good value and pleasant surroundings.

My experience did not fully match that of other reviewers, but I think I may have chosen the wrong dish - monkfish - which as I know personally, is very difficult to cook perfectly.

Well worth the short walk out of the centre of town - or drive as there is a car park. Excellent quality ingredients. Interesting combinations. Lunch or dinner. This is worth a Michelin star in my opinion.

Had a great meal whilst staying The Cliffe. Very tasty and nicely cooked. (Find it very hard to believe anyone could describe it as tasteless!). The service was friendly and efficient, and it had a nice relaxed vibe. One minor aesthetic point - more subdued lighting would be better for the evenings, and would make the atmosphere more cosy - specially on cold, wet autumn nights.

Was really looking forward to birthday dinner at The Cliffe. We arrived and I ordered a pint of Neck Oil and were told "please take a seat and we'll bring it over". A pint of Peroni arrived. Not a problem as I like Peroni but not quite what I ordered!

Tucked away close to the beautiful market town of Ludlow is the Cliffe at Dinham, a restaurant with rooms. We found it through Travelzoo and took advantage of the special two course lunch for two for £29. We are so glad that we did.

A warm friendly welcome and excellent food. Nothing was too much trouble. As a family with small children and 2 dogs we were so well looked after and made to feel welcome. The dogs given water and then enjoyed a walk after lunch across the fields opposite. Kids spent time playing on the lawn and enjoying the open space. The Sunday lunch was fantastic. All beautifully present and hot and perfect portions. Desserts were wonderful. We will defiantly be back. Thank you for a wonderful long lazy afternoon spent on your lovely terrace

Enjoyed the 5 course tasting menu. Excellent value at £40 for food and £25 matching wines. Highlight was very impressive roasted beetroot veloute. The chef needs to have more confidence in his sauces and make the flavours bolder , but overall, a very good evening.

We were worried by some of the very negative reviews, but we found the food and service to be excellent. My crab starter was followed by sea bream with couscous. My wife had salad with mozarella, follwed by duck breast. All the courses were really good (the duck, in particular, was cooked exactly as my wife requested). The staff were very friendly and pleasant and the service good.

This is a superb restaurant. Although it’s not cheap it’s very reasonable for the quality of food served. The service is excellent and it has a good wine list. If you are there for a special occasion treat yourself to the Puligny Montrachet. The food presentation is first rate and the combination of flavours is to die for. It’s more expensive than most pubs but it’s worth the difference and you can always starve tomorrow. If you are staying in Ludlow then the walk down to and across the river makes a perfect entree. The walk back up a steep hill seems easy after eating with a glorious sunset and views of the castle a distraction. Look no further.

Had Sunday lunch here with friends on a very hot day. The venue is tucked away along winding lanes and the very busy streets of Ludlow though it is right at the back of the Castle. Sat and had drinks on terrace with a jazz band playing. Very prompt service both for drinks and ordering. Sat in a small restaurant adjoining the terrace with wooden floor and tables.. Limited menu for lunch with some unusual items ie cured salmon, beetroot volute for starters. Choice of beef or pork for the meat dishes . Pork was excellent and veg also. Sweets were good especially the panacotta. All in all good relaxing Sunday lunch. Staff were young, friendly and efficient.

Went for the first secret diner club evening that is run by Jess who owns the fab 'not today seitan' in liar liar..what can i say?.the food was on another level. Litrally the best vegan food in Oswestry and way surpasses anything else available in a vegan cafe in Oswestry. The food was beautifully presented, the flavours were amazing and the cocktails were beautiful too. Really hope the owner decides to run these evenings on a regular basis although once word gets around i imagine getting a table will be really difficult. Its great to see a vibrant young business do so well and honestly the co trading with Liar liar is such a brilliant idea. Two amazing businesses running side by side. I cannot recommend this highly enough, the best vegan resturant/cafe in town by far
