We visited The Cleave on Easter Sunday with a big party. The service was impeccable! There was an impressive choice on the menu despite the fact that it was a busy day. The quality of the food was outstanding and the atmosphere just perfect. The Cleave offers the coziness of a country pub with the professionalism of a metropolitan eatery.

We had the most amazing Mother's Day outing with our entire family, including our dog, at The Cleeve! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that exceeded our expectations. In a beautiful rural location in amongst thatched cottages and rolling valleys, The Cleeve is a hidden gem that radiates charm and vitality. We indulged in fantastic food and were pleasantly surprised by the exceptional selection of wine and beer. The atmosphere was buzzing with local spirit, and the Landlord's charisma added an extra layer of enjoyment to our experience. It's heartening to see a village pub like The Cleeve thriving, offering a truly memorable and delightful outing for all. Without a doubt, we highly recommend paying a visit to this wonderful establishment.

After a walk around Trenchford Reservoir we 6 had booked for Sunday lunch. Generous portions of tender roast meat with large homemade yorkys, very tasty veg and 4 large roast potatoes, with extra jugs of gravy brought to the table automatically! Which was very welcome. A relaxed affair with attentive, friendly staff. Home made delicious desserts where of a generous size too. All very reasonably priced considering the size and great quality of the meals. They were happy that our friends dog lay quietly under our table, with gravy dog bones offered on arrival, a very nice touch. Shall visit again and recommend too. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Run by a young, friendly couple, this is a simply lovely pub with excellent beers, amazing food and really good cheer. The four of us plus dog arrived at lunchtime after a long walk, there were already a few cheery locals with ruddy cheeks who beamed at us over their pints. We we had a table by the window overlooking a garden that had obviously seen lots of Devon rain and sunshine - very lovely and green. We drank loads of real ale and wine and were also tempted by the delicious Fanny’s cider. We ordered a massive lunch, freshly prepared by the chef, Matt, who is clearly a perfectionist. I had the fishcakes - honestly mate they’re like creme brulée - you crack open the fried breaded outer layer with your fork and there’s all this creamy chilli fresh fish stuff inside. Yum. We stayed there well beyond our welcome, for 3 hours, just laughing and eating and drinking, then waddled back to our cottage. What a stupendous afternoon. Thank you Carlotte and Steve for their joyous hospitality and generous humour.

Called in quite by chance whilst on a break within Dartmoor National Park. What a gem to discover! Genuine 'Olde Worlde' building set amongst others in a truly picturesque village. Pub has two bars/dining areas - one larger with an open fire and more akin to a dining room, the other small cosy and despite natural granite walls it was kept warm by an effective wood burner. Further warmed by a happy helpful welcome from all staff, good selection of beers including local ales. Cheering atmosphere was increased by chatty local patrons playing the mysterious card game Euchre (familiar to us North Cornwall dwellers but I still don't quite grasp the rules!). A surprisingly varied menu available on an out-of-season Wednesday evening enticed us to stay for dinner and we are glad to have done so - chicken and leek pie utterly scrumptious and filling a healthy male appetite, plus gnocchi equally delicious for my partner. Scrupulously clean toilets too - always a mark of standards and customer care especially in a place serving food I believe. PS - limited parking means you might get blocked in by a Volvo driver who gets grouchy when he's asked to let you out, but hey, we were content to see a Mercedes pull into 'his' space as we left! Couldn't fault the place. Didn't want to leave. Will certainly be back.

We wished we'd found the Cleave Inn on the first night of our holiday rather than the last. We only dropped in for a drink but ended up staying for a delicious meal. The atmosphere was heartwarming, as we relaxed with our drinks the locals gathered for food, banter and Eucha! Everybody, including us, was greeted warmly and with humour. It's such a shame that our visit was tainted by the person who blocked my very old Honda in with his very new Volvo! The chap didn't even have the decency to apologise. After staff alerted him, he barged past me & marched through the hall to the front door, bearly hesitating to hold the front door as I followed. I really hope the Mercedes that slid into the space left by my old banger did not incur the wrath of Mr Volvo!

I booked a table a few months ago as we were staying the village and when we arrived there was a slight misunderstanding with our booking. It was rectified immediately and we were taken straight to a table and given drinks on the house. The staff were so friendly and welcoming and despite being busy nothing was too much trouble. We visited today as we used to stay in Lustleigh some years ago and loved the pub and its magical location in the centre of the village. We were greeted by a snarling pit type dog in a worryingly loose muzzle in the front bar, and then pointed in the direction of an unheated room at the back, with great views of fag butts bobbing around in rainfilled ash trays outside the window, as we hadn't booked and there was no room for lunch, just a drink ( fair enough). Unengaged staff, cold dismal interior. What a shame for such a lovely village as Lustleigh.

Firstly, nothing to do with the pub, sat nav sent us on a tour of the ares so just use a map. The staff were very good and called me sir and not guy(s) and didn't say 'no worries ' once, thank goodness. It was made clear to us that there would be a slight delay taking out order, that was fine. I chose the pork loin off the specials menu. It was beautiful cooked, placed on a bed of dolphinoise (nicely cooked with a dash of garlic) accompanied with a selection of vegetables that were first class and nice and hot. The sauce with the pork was sensational. Afters: apple and blueberry crumble, the fruit was nicely cooked and 'tart' the topping was ok.

There are lots of good things to be said about this quaint country pub. We were there for lunch with a car group of 12 and had been asked to send our orders for main meals in advance. There was a good, but limited choice however the choices and prices on the website menu did not reflect the menu presented at the table. Orders for starters and drinks were taken promptly and we were not waiting long for them to arrive as the pub was not particularly busy.
