Still the best, freshest, tastiest fish & chips available anywhere. Been enjoying Jackson’s for around two decades now and, while we enjoy others elsewhere too (we live in Wiltshire so not close enough to enjoy it as often as we’d like) we still unanimously agree that nothing else comes close. Great takeaway but sooo much better & fresher in the dining room. Another perfect fish & chips tonight (& home made tartar sauce, best mushy peas, incredible curry sauce & amazing vinegar) Already looking forward to our next opportunity, especially to dine in.

I've been here a few times with my parents, & the fish & chips have been great. It's good to have the option of a smaller portion, which was spot on!

Nice but not cheap . Asked for curry sauce and got gravy, but that was the only thing I was disappointed with!

We had a take away tonight and it was awful. The batter wasn't cooked and was wet and soggy and the fish tasted stale. We've had take aways before and it's always been good. We won't be coming back which is a shame as I always tell people how good it is here. Such a disappointing treat for the kids as we couldn't eat it and now I'm having to cook them something!

Was passing through and found this gem on google maps. Tucked in behind a fishmonger of the same name; I thought to myself - that bodes well! My cod and chips was cooked fresh to order and the staff are friendly and have an efficient system going on. The fish - was without a doubt the nicest bit of cod I’ve ever had in my life. It was perfectly cooked, big flaky chunks of white fish in a light and crispy (not too oily) batter. My only regret was not buying a large portion. 100% will be going back for more. Must be the best place to get food in Newton Abbot, and the price was spot on as well.

Saw the good reviews so decided to give it a go.. Shop is clean but the haddock and chips was so bland and the curry sauce is so bland, watered down and runny. I was very disappointed that night after spending that much for it..

I am a taxi driver. Jacksons is Best in Town. Crispy very thin butter. Great service. I drive there with three old ladies with young heart ( 82-96 years old) every Thursday and I got myself fish and chips every now and then. Very high standart every time. Staff always smiles, very helpful. Assists elderly customers to the car safely. True Gem. Thank you Jacksons.

Ordered a cheese burger today and found the burger was dripping with grease, just completely wasted a meal 🤢 cheese is very mild. Soggy batter and not battered enough. This is not what I expected with a 4.6 review!

Absolutely fabulous fish and chips made from quality products. Everything was hot and very tasty. The service was also excellent. Having the addition of the fishmongers stall outside adds interest to the place. We have also ordered smoked salmon from there and were not disappointed. All round a great experience.

Avoid unless you're already a regular. I want to believe that this is a fantastic small Independent business, supporting the community. The kind that we were all very happy to help during the lockdown. I've been there before and the food is good however the customer service definitely needs work. I passed by after a very long day of travel and they told me that I could go away and get a drink and call in my order. As long as there was 10 minutes advance notice the food would be ready. When I called 20 minutes later I was suddenly told that the wait was more than half an hour. So I walked over again and asked them for whatever they had ready. They told me that was nothing available. When I asked them about the three pieces of fish behind the counter that they weren't wrapping up, they said that those were for other customers. I guess they have a two-tier system, where regulars get priority and everybody else is disappointed. I went elsewhere. If you're considering taking a chance on Jackson's, be warned. And for the owners, repeat business isn't something you can take for granted, it needs to be earned.

I had an excellent experience! The chips were superb, but the true stars were the fresh and fantastic fish. Truly one of the best fish and chips places I've ever tried! Highly recommended!

Had the takeaway. Fish was awful batter was under cooked slimmy, chips were overcooked and soggy, paid over £30 for 3 portions, this is the 2nd time we have been here 1st time was just as bad. Will never go again.

Very disappointed with my fish and chips I had tonight the batter on the fish was soft and soggy not crispy like it should be and the chips we nearly cold and soggy too so not enjoyable at all I'm afraid

I don't think your fish are fresh, I can definitely say that your fish smells really bad. I bought a £50 fish from you, it was the first and last time, I definitely do not recommend it.

Ordered the daily special and were not disappointed. Two pieces of fish...Pollock and Lemon Sole. All fish cooked to perfection, lovely moist large flakes of fish and light batter. The chips were lovely too. Staff were polite, attentive and very helpful. Ordered lattes which tasted great, the only negative was that the lattes were supplied in a small teacup and saucer, so expensive for what you got, they should really have been in larger cups......Overall though, it was an excellent experience and great food and we would definitely return.

Haven't been in since before Covid so as a special treat we booked a table (a definite must) the food was as amazing as we'd remembered if not better, if that was possible, (definitely reccomend wearing a stretch waistband) I wish I could have taken a second stomach it was beautifully cooked and the restaurant was immaculate 👍Well done Jacksons we will certainly be back but won't leave it so long this time 👌

Simply the best fish and chips. Between us we had cod n chips, haddock n chips and lemon sole (with rice cones) n chips. We’d never heard of ‘rice cones’ but it was an almost batter free coating. Wonderful cod and chips. Light batter, moist fresh fish. Chips are perfection. Well worth the 64mile round trip. And the service was excellent; friendly, helpful waiting staff…with a cracking sense of humour. Thank you

My 5 star rating has not changed from last time. Jackson's are well worth a visit. The monkfish was gorgeous and the so was the cod. We drive a 54mile round trip so that says it all. The batter is so light and very similar to tempura. Without having any chips I had room for dessert, pineapple fritters and ice cream. I was in heaven. A shout-out to Megan my apologies for last time and thank you for serving us today. You're a star.

Absolutely delicious ,best fish and chips I’ve had in ages. Discovered Jackson’s yesterday and what a find. Cooked to order the haddock was succulent and sweet with super crispy batter, also traditional chips rather than the frozen that most places do. They have fishmonger business alongside the chippy so won’t get fresher fish. Really friendly service as well. Definitely looking forward to next visit.

Fish was small for a normal fish and could not eat the chips. It's not worth the cost that we were charged. Place to avoid. If you don't manage to park on the main street, it is a bit of a walk from the pedestrian area.

This is the second time we’ve ordered from Jacksons. The first time we ordered 2 cod and chips. We both enjoyed this. The chips and batter was very tasty and the cod was very white. Yesterday I went for cod and chips and my husband had plaice and chips. My cod was tasteless, but more alarmingly my husbands plaice was coloured pink and slightly wet….we were worried that it might not be cooked enough and could make him ill. He ate what he could around the edges and threw away the rest. So disappointed. We would have returned the food for replacement but we had other commitments and there was no time to do this. It’s really put us off now.

Although the quality of the meal was good the waiting system,which is has been in place since lockdown seems to require excess staff. This is reflected in the price.

Loved the cod and chips and peas.freshly cooked and very helpful staff as we had cases with us as stopped at Newton Abbot before we got our train connection home.well worth going if you are in the area

Fish and Chip shop with a really large selection including several veggie options. Very reasonable prices. Definitely worth visiting. Not obvious as it is behind their wet fish shop.

Went mid week and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Fish chips mushy peas and tartar sauce. Beautiful white fish in a very light crispy batter, chips cooked to perfection and the award winning sides completed the meal. Prices very reasonable. Service quick and very pleasant. Highly recommend

Truly the best fish and chips I have had, the chips are cooked!! And cooked to perfection x staff so kindly welcomed our dog to the restaurant, every time I go to Devon now I will have to make a trip here, delicious food.

We had take out so the atmosphere was fab at home. Lovely fish the chips were a little soggy. Portion size was good. Would recommend, the fact they deliver to your car is epic because parking can be tricky.

Asked for large haddock but was served cod , heard from different server to mine that haddock not available! Would have been nice to have been informed. So the large cod and small chips arrived with a wedge of lemon that was soggy and had been kept in water to stay fresh ( doesn’t work ) . £18.00+ for a just ok lunch I won’t be returning!

had a great lunch here yesterday. we both had the large catch of the day which consisted of a fillet of coley and a big piece of hake each . as you would expect for catch of the day the fish was ultra fresh, beautiful white flakes of fish and in a light crisp batter, nice chips and nice homemade tartar sauce. the place was pretty full by the time we left and everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals, very nice friendly staff and seemed very well run. will definately be back.

Popped in with my 2 children for some chips and decided to sit in. Best customer service we've received for a long time! I think we arrived close to closing but they didn't show any impatience or make us feel at all rushed whilst my 3 yr old ate at a snails pace 😅 Every server was friendly and pleasant and the fish was delicious! Very welcoming, delicious food and comfy restaurant. Thank you very much 🙂

The chip shop/restaurant was really busy when I arrived, which is always a good sign. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant was spotless as were the toilets. My meal was delicious and plentiful. I’ll definitely be returning soon!

The best fish and chips ever!! The fish is really fresh (they have their own fishmongers next door!) cooked fresh for each order with care and expertise! The service was brilliant and fun. If you like quality fish and chips it is worth travelling to experience this special place. We travel from a seaside town to Newton Abbot for their amazing fish best in Devon we think. My husband has worked around fish all his life and he is fussy about fish and chips this is his favorite fish and chips ever!

Sadly not as tasty as in previous times, also rather expensive but them suppose everything is nowadays!

Fast, friendly and efficient with a good choice of fish. Well done and not oily chips. All this even though we were late in the evening and they were just about to start there clean down. Definitely go back.

Had poor food here about two months ago , and even worse service on take away , food served cold 45 minutes after appointed collection time . Posted a review and was asked to try again . Tried again tonight . Fish filet was very tasty but was served in soggy tasteless batter that ruined the fish , within my portion of chips 40% were proper chips the rest were those tiny off cuts pieces we all hate . So , another very disappointing visit . Will definitely visit again . Shame, have been using this chippy for 40 years plus

All freshly cooked by owner the staff are very nice the size is very good for what you pay there are no smells come and try you will go back.

Everything cooked perfectly (think it was Nicola, apologies if this is the incorrect name?) Perspex screens are still in use which is great! All the staff were pleasant and attentive.

My mum and I walked past this place and it looked very interesting as it has a fishmongers aswell as a chippy. We decided to book a table as we were told it gets very busy. We ordered fish,chips and mushy peas.what a great variety of fish . I chose cod,but there was monkfish,scallops and much more. It's the best fish and chips I've ever eaten. The young male who served us was really friendly as were the other members. I highly recommend this place. We were on holiday and visiting family .

We dined in here tonight. Last day of our holiday. It was Excellent food. I do not agree with any of the negative reviews. Fish was beautiful and the chips were lovely. Home made tartar sauce was to die for. We also had a pea fritter which was delicious. Highly recommend this chippy.

Gorgeous fish and chips! Amazing menu choices. We had the 'catch of the day' and got 2 different fish with it, Plaice and Coly. Service was quick even though they were busy. The batter was perfect. We will be back!

As chippie plaice has gone downhill decide to try Jackson. Never again. Chips were so over cooked and greecey they were some dark brown colour. Sausages we’re also over done and clearly left under a hot light for hours. Honestly worse chippy iv had ever from anywhere. Would highly not recommend.it’s also rediculously overpriced.

Had cod and chips with a curry sauce. The batter was a bit wilted and greasy so not the crispy batter I was hoping for. The chips could of been crispy too but they were also a bit wilted and the curry sauce was small for the cost. It was my first time and felt the chippie up the road was better so maybe they were having an off day as they have good reviews. I expect better when paying around £13 for not even a large cod and chips with a sauce.

To be fair.... This was a last minute dinner option, and we googled it. Took a chance, and..... Loved it! Chips were great, and fish... Huge portions and perfectly batter cooked! Light crispy crunchy batter, and fantastic fresh fish. Kids loved the cod bites so much, they ended up fighting over who got more and who gets the last piece!

Not may favourite, the chips I like to be crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle, they're not like this . I know a lot of people like this place so it's according to taste. The curry sauce needs a a bit of pepping up, was a bit watery for my liking.

I tasted twice the fish & chips (Cod and Haddock) : really really flavoursome and firm texture fish, not much fatty chips (freshly prepared chips!) . The homemade tartare sauce and curry sauce are also arguments to recommend you Jacksons Fish & Chips !

We are holiday makers I went to Jacksons fish an chip shop . I ordered two fish an chip daily special at £8 75 each when we opened them there were to small fish an chips in each.When we started to eat them one of the contents my wife had was terrible the to fish were black you just couldn't eat them it was disgusting. I would never go to Jacksons chip shop again maybe it's because we were holidaymakers very disappointed I just hope it doesn't make us ill Mr L Martin.
