I went to penarth and I was craving some Indian I came across spice delight as soon as I went it the vibe was immaculate and the customer service was great I ordered some curry and it was fabulous I would definitely come back to spice delight since was amazing definitely recommend to come here

We had a Christmas party last night at the Clay Pit and really impresed with service and food. Delicious 👌💯✨We ordered everything when we arrived. Lots of varieties. Highly recommend!

Food was great but a bit lacking in atmosphere... probably because the time of day and weather meant we were the only people dining. Saw several friends (mostly walking their dogs) go past!

Just an update for September 23, still a good place to dine the food is still the same exceptional quality and just ever so tasty. Thought I would just reconfirm my previous comments. This is a post Covid update, just had another amazing meal, yes we chose a quiet time to dine in, the service is still like the food exceptional. Felt really safe there, the tables are well spaced out and good precautions by staff. WOW an another amazing meal to end an busy year. Brilliant food great service at a reasonable price. Just had another family meal here one of the tastier meals again not hot but full of flavour. Superb indian cuisine at a reasonable price. Excellent staff and good service. Don't tell everyone one it's not a large place . Best indian food in the area beats more upmarket places.

Ordered a takeaway from this restaurant for the first time. It was excellent food and good value. We told them it was our anniversary and they sent us a bottle of wine with our order - a lovely touch! This will definitely be our go-to restaurant next time!

This is the first time I had attended the restaurant. The staff were excellent and the food was outstanding I had asked for less oil in my Chicken Bhuna and the curry was made perfectly. I will definitely come back with friends to this restaurant. I normally go to the restaurants in Canton.

Very saddened by our most recent experience here. For a long time our favourite Indian place, with wonderful food, great staff and funky interior. We deliveroo-ed a meal the other day, however, that was absolutely horrible. Flavourless. Cauliflower was obviously rotten. Spinach was burned to black husks. Absolutely horrible and inedible. Contacted after the meal and got no response. Such a pity - so many wonderful meals that will now have this grim memory hanging over them

Nice mushroom rice, but my plain makhani sauce was so thick it got a film on top of it really quickly. Service was very fast especially compared to most curry houses I've been to! I was particularly impressed when they brought my friend dates to break her fast 😀

My partner and I went for a curry at the Clay Pit and I think I probably had the best Jalfezi I've ever had! Both meals were super and the 2 guys working were really friendly and chatty and gave me some great advice on cooking home made curries. Brilliant service. We will be definitely going back there again and I will be recommending to family and friends

We ordered at the shop and sat and waited for our food. Our food came out hot. Getting it home the cauliflower bahjee had no extras with it, it was cauliflower with a few spices on. I ordered mango chutney which wasn't in the bag and we ordered Poppadoms and usually get an onion chutney too but not tonight. Our chicken tikka massala was also more like a chicken madras. We have been quite a few times but tonight was a disappointment and will question a return visit.

Have recently had a sit down meal here and also use it regularly for Friday night takeaway curry, and never had any problems with their quality or quantity. Good variety of specials and a reasonable cost across the board are also pluses.

First night in Penarth and this place was recommended by my son who lived here for a while. We booked a table because we were unsure of capacity during post COVID restrictions but we needn’t have worried. It was nearly empty but was doing a brisk trade in takeaway. We had the vegetable sharing platter to start which was varied and very tasty. I asked the waiter for recommendations and went with a lamb dish for main that had Bengali limes and a chickpea sauce which was delicious. Andy had salmon shashlik which he declared best thing he’s had in a long time. Son and girlfriend had vegan options - they love this place for the wide vegan menu. We had a lovely evening in this no frills Indian, the service was good and the food excellent value.

We ordered a meal this week, spending around £45. We've not ordered from this place before, and had read good reviews, so what a disappointment this was. We struggled to feed two adults and two children due to poor portion sizes. The bombay potatoes consisted of 6 rather small spuds and felt like a total rip off. The dish I ordered was more liquid than prawns, with 1 and a bit pineapple rings and not a single sultana as promised on the menu.The portion size was also on the small side, half a small container full and, as I've said, mostly liquid. The tikka was nice as were the samosas. The daal was same as anywhere else but cost considerably more. For the money, this was a poor meal and very disappointing. We ended up filling up on the naan bread. I wouldn't recommend this place at all, and we won't be ordering again.

Just had a fantastic experience with the Clay Pit, we had a takeaway for five and from the moment we gave our order over the phone it was easy and friendly. The food came very promptly, and the colour and smells of the dishes were amazing. They were truly tasty, definitely one of the best, and my own dish was one of the best Indian meals I've ever had. Even the vegan and fussy teenagers were completely happy.

Had my traditional weekly takeaway curry from the clay pit again and as always the quality is perfection. Highly recommended, without doubt the best curry house in South Wales if not the uk. Chicken jalfrezi is cooked to perfection, with an extremely tasty plentiful sauce and the chicken is always very high quality, tender and delicious. Naan breads are excellent too. Food consistently ready within 10 to 15 mins from ordering, and this is a great lockdown antidote. Can’t rate them highly enough!

We decided to have a takeaway from The Clay Pit on the first day of the December lockdown in Wales. Ordering online was easy and it was ready to collect in 30 minutes. The restaurant section was closed and sealed off and the tables made into a safety zone with sterile wipes and hand gel. The food was of excellent quality, much less greasy than many that we have had from elsewhere. it was clear that it had been freshly prepared - the king prawn biryani being just right. Whilst it has been open for a while, this was our first visit and we will be returning soon!

Had a large meal from the clay pit last night for a Wedding night celebration (caterers let us down last minute) and the guys at the clay pit were happy to help. Pre ordered to save on time. Honestly couldn't fault any aspect of the meal. Fantastic as always. Thank you

This lockdown that was imposed on us by FM prompted me to try a home delivery. This turned out to be a great decision.The Clay Pit may not be the cheapest take away but the quality is without a match in Penarth. No names but some local Indian takeaway dishes are difficult to differentiate because they seem to be made out of the same base and little variation in taste. The Clay Pit is different. All the dishes we had (family of 3) were well differentiated from a taste point of view, well prepared and well presented. Could not fault anything. Ok £50 sounds a lot for 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 side dishes (plus popadums and chutneys) but the quantity of food makes it all good to go for at least a second meal for all of us.We will return.

In Penarth we're spoilt for choice when it comes to curry, but as far as I'm concerned, you can't beat The Clay Pit. The food is fresh, tasty and excellently prepared. Portion sizes are good - we generally order a vegetable biryani, one meat/fish main and couple of sides to go between two and we're always able to make two meals out of what we get!The service is quick, friendly and, during the pandemic, they've adapted brilliantly with socially distanced takeaway and collection services. We are very lucky to have such a fantastic establishment on our doorstep :)

Clay pit special mixed grill was delicious and had a large amount of meats with lovely masala sauce and nam bread.

My wife gave them a try based on good reviews. Takeaway delivery order was late, wrong and barely edible. The curry was like water and the lamb was literally just bones. Wife rang to complain and told would get a refund but never came. Do yourself a favour and get a collection order from Royal India in Dinas Powys instead.

Quite disappointed. Had a sit down here before and thought it was good. But. For the cost of the take away I thought it was not very good at all. For the cost I expected more. No discount offered for take away which is unusual for any curry restaurant. May look at other alternatives in the future. Shame.

Called on spec after having travelled from North Wales and met up with family who had travelled from London. Accomodated after a little wait . Food excellent, service excellent and good atmosphere, My son commented that it was one of the best Indian meals he has had. He travels a lot and eats out in London

Having become increasingly disappointed with our usual takeaway. We decided to give the clay pit. I have to say this is lovely. Just what we needed. Great service on collection and delicious food too.

We found The Clay Pit completely by chance whilst walking from the lovely Cardiff Bay. The welcome was warm and the staff were genuinely pleased to welcome us to their lovely restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious, served piping hot with impeccable service and served on starched white linen tablecloths. We had the £15 special Monday evening Menu - so to be honest was not expecting greatness - but actually we had a wonderful three course meal served with delicious pickles and popadoms the Tamarind seed pickle one was a first try for us and beautiful. Sometimes when you opt for a special price menu it is not always a good idea but on this instance we had the most marvellous meal and service so thank you very much for making our evening special.

My family & I came for the Sunday lunch Buffet. I pre-booked a table for 1.30, just to save disappointment. We were given a warm welcome and were given a choice of tables. The waiter took our drinks order and showed us the buffet. There was a selection of starters such as poppadoms, salad, chutneys, followed by bhajis, samosas, pakoras, then a choice of 6 curries from a korma to a spicier option. A variety of chicken dishes, a lamb dish and a prawn dish. This was then followed by rice, naan bread and chips. It wasn’t a massive selection but what was there was of good authentic quality which I believe is better than quantity. You must appreciate that this is a small establishment not a chain restaurant. The service was attentive and my children got to try new foods. I would definitely go back.

My husband and I love Indian food and have tried many different curries from all over the world, and this is one of the best! The flavours were simply superb, and the food was served hot and in good time. Service was excellent, and the house white wine was served beautifully chilled and complimented the meal perfectly. We couldn't fault it and look forward to our next visit already!
