Mint and Mustard Penarth in The Vale of Glamorgan

We simply loved this. The restaurant is warm and beautifully turned out. The team were so friendly and welcoming and on a Saturday night there was a huge cohort working. We were shown to a large table with plenty of room for the pram holding our sleeping granddaughter. The food was something else. The home made samosas had flavour so exquisite I have never tasted anything like it before. The chilli squid had a perfect kick, and the chicken domo were superb. Together with other Bahjis poppadoms and a wonderful spicy scotch egg we commenced our meal. The main courses too were exceptional. I had the Calicut beef, round and flavourful with a big hit of ginger warmth. Our daughter the panneer curry which had a glorious tasting Marsala. The boys had the coconut chicken, excellent and the lamb rogan josh , also superb. We had been recommended by other family to visit and we will certainly be back. We only visit Penarth a couple of times a year but this should become a tradition.

We found this lovely restaurant by chance early Saturday evening and so glad we did. Lovely interior and a warm welcome met us. We were seated immediately wherever we chose and immediately provided with menus. We were offered advice with choosing our meals as there were so many which looked lovely on the menu. We chose poppadoms and chutney tray and shared a portion of onion bhaji to start all of which were very tasty. My husband then had the chicken in a crackpot which had spices and a coconut sauce which was delicious. I chose the Railway Lamb which was equally delicious in a beautifully flavoured sauce which was not spicy but had beautiful flavours. We shared mushroom pilau rice and a roti, both of which were very tasty. We both said the food was the nicest we had eaten in such a restaurant for some time. Flavours used are Kerralen, Nepalese aswell as Indian. Service was excellent and the two gentlemen who served us were clean, smart and friendly. Will definitely return when in Penarth.

Honestly one of the best Indian dinners I have had in a long time. Phenomenal and great service. Really unusual dishes compared to the usual “curry places”. Worth a visit. Naan was out of this world

We chose Mint and Mustard for an early dinner one Saturday night. So glad we did! Lovely place with intriguing decor. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The food was top notch - absolutely delicious. We both had dishes we had never encountered on other Indian restaurant menus and found them great. Highly recommend this restaurant.

The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered Tiger prawns and Scotch egg as starters. Main course - Mango and coconut stuffed naan, Wheat roti and Highway Dhaba Murgh and Mushroom rice. Followed by dessert of Chocolate and cherry cheesecake. Portion size was spot on. We were attended by - Mr. Alex and Ms. Moon. Both were quite warm and welcoming. Excellent service provided by both of them. Second time visiting it. Would definitely love to bring my whole family along.

The Mint & Mustard is brilliant! We booked to be certain of getting a table but they also allow people to walk in, which is great to know if you are in Penarth and wanting some quality food. The welcome was great, meeting us as soon as we stepped in, we were sat straight away and looked after throughout. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Our starters were awesome, recommend the Gobi, we had to wait a little for the mains - but this was helpful as we had a breather to really enjoy the mains - dish of the night was Saag Gosht - really tasty, but saying that everything was perfect. And for what we had very reasonable too. Recommend to everyone.

We had an amazing experience at Mint and Mustard in Penarth. The £10 lunch deal was incredible value for money, with authentic and delicious food that was all amazing! The staff were friendly and attentive, making the whole dining experience even better. It was the best meal I’ve had in a long time – well worth the visit!

Waited over an hour for cold food to be delivered. Really disappointed considering how high all the other reviews were. Food was tasty but when it’s delivered cold and sweaty it’s not what you expect, especially when spending over £40 for a meal

We’ve just had a lovely meal at the mint and mustard celebrating our wedding anniversary. Staff very lovely especially our waitress moon, who gave some really lovely menu suggestions will definitely be back. Can 100% recommend the scotch egg starter !

Very good food. Very good and friendly service. Loses a point on atmosphere because I use hearing aids and the universal use of noise-reflective surfaces is seriously detrimental to my enjoyment of conversation with those in my company.

Normally great food here. Tonight was a massive let down. Railway lamb (gluten free) was a disaster, may be a different chef. India gate across the road may have been a better option, albeit not a restaurant, just a take away.

Excellent, delicious food and friendly efficient service. I dropped a star for atmosphere as only a few tables were occupied during our visit so the place felt a little underused. With the standard and selection of food this place should be packed out. Plus they serve excellent cocktails at very reasonable prices!! We'd love to have an Indian restaurant of this standard where we live. Will definitely go to Mint and Mustard if we are visiting the area in future.

A lovely evening with very tasty food and generous portions. We had a wide selection of dishes - highlights being the tarka dal and the rogan josh. Beautiful rice, roti and naan. Plenty of advice and patience and good humour from our exceptional server Moon.

We went on a whim one night with friends for the evening offer menu - 2 courses for £20. Portions were very generous indeed, and the food was amazing. Choices were very good, too. We frequent high end restaurants, and honestly I can't wait to go back here for the coconut lamb once again. Stunning. My only criticism was, despite the offer, it did end up being £35 a head by the time you add a poppadoms, drink and a Naan. £70 per couple for a curry is still on the pricey side for me.

Fab food Fab service Lovely atmosphere

One of my pet peeves is a description on a menu that then doesn’t turn up on the plate. Had the sea bream that was described as served with green mango and rocket salad, curry leaf herb dip, garlic mustard and ‘spiced’ chips. What was served was fish, highly salted chips, garlic mayo and a mountain of ‘bagged’ salad of beetroot/ carrot/ lambs lettuce/ red cabbage - undressed and dry. Please guys, if you don’t have the ingredients listed on the menu in the kitchen for some reason / explain this when a customer places an order for a dish. Was left underwhelmed and quite disappointed with a dry and over salted supper. On the upside - my partner enjoyed his beef dish.

Booked a last minute curry because we were near by, the staff were very accommodating. We went for the clay pot curries which were served on hot plates. The food took over an hour but we did arrive at a very busy time. I would not recommend the £8 cocktails they were of poor standard. The service and the food was great

Couple why it was only 2 stars. Why I gave it two was purely because of the food which I cannot fault. Four of us went, my partner and 2 friends, it was their choice as never been here before. Had poppadoms to start. Nothing special and dips were small portions for four people and I only liked one. My choice. While we were tucking in a waiter came and took our plates way before we had finished. So shocked we never said a word. Called another waiter over and said he was new. Never even apologized. I had one small plate which was delicious as small appetite but others had full size meal. The rice was so delicious. When my partner ordered another cobra the waiter leaned over my friend sitting next to him so friend had to lean back so his arm could get past. Plenty of room the other side. I do not want to visit this place again . Didn't leave a tip as usually do. No apologies, nothing. No greeting coming in either. Hospitality is important to us

The chips tasted like they were microwaved and were soggy. The curry was just pure salt no flavour ! The Keema naan was the nicest thing and even that wasn’t even okay. Don’t know how the reviews are so high

Called in at a lunch time and the place was empty apart from one couple. It has a pleasant comfortable interior. There was a special two course meal on offer but opted to go for a regular tandoori chicken meal. The meal was of a very good quality but I feel the portions could have been a little more generous for £16.50. Will probably go there again.

Have visited this restaurant many times however the other evening I was left quite disappointed after always ordering the same food you get to know how it should be cooked and served the food was burnt we could tell things had changed the person who we complained to had a list of excuses and made us feel we were in the wrong and we should have ordered something else in fact I thought the person was quite rude the service has declined since the last manager left

Used to be a Fantastic place for food which used to be beautifully presented Visited all the time but recently we have been disappointed with the service and food, since the old manager left things have slipped, I had a burnt curry and was told its because its cooked in the pot, that's just the way it is, nope I've had that meal many times and it was never burnt. There was no apology just a comment "well we will have to make it a different way and then put it in the pot. Then as soon as the food was put on the table I was asked how is your food (hadn't even tasted it) Your paying for Premier quality (as it is pricey) but not getting a premium service. Not sure will be returning as standards are slipping.

Great food and service. Let down by turning on all the overhead lights up as bright as they could go, at 10.10p.m. When I queried this they said they were getting ready for the next day. You are paying a premium price so would have expected a more pleasant end to the evening.

Another excellent visit to celebrate a family birthday. Food is exceptional as always, as is the friendly service. I ordered the mixed grill and safe say it's my new favourite. I've visited many times and never been disappointed.

This was a huge disappointment having ordered food here many times over recent years. The Lola Cutty’s curry was indescribably bad having tried it many times when it was excellent. the Chicken Khurma was colourless and bland…tasted of nothing and was almost white in colour. What has happened, a new not so good chef maybe?. Visitors and home delivery customers look out. I complained by email and had a call phone back during which I requested a refund but nothing to date. Won’t be dealing with this company again, there are other good alternatives in Penarth

My husband and I went mid-week for a meal. The service was exceptional and the food was exquisite! Firstly, it was a bit chilly outside, but it was lovely and warm in the restaurant... which was a relief! (A lot of other local places we have been have had quite a nip in the air, and no-one wants to eat their dinner in their coat!). We have been before, and I wasn't a fan of the more creamy meal I had... so this time they very kindly cooked me a bespoke meal off the menu, which was more tomato based and spicy (which I requested). The side salad was one of the best I have ever had. My husband ordered off the ´supper club´menu and said it was fantastic. The beetroot starter was gorgeous. We usually choose eat in another Indian restaurant close by, but this is now our favourite. It's a bit more expensive than some of the others, but in our opinion it is worth the extra few pounds. The best in Penarth and the surrounding areas! We will be back very soon - thank you!

As an experienced connoisseur of Indo-Pakistani cuisine, I have had the privilege of dining in numerous households, which has allowed me to develop a discerning palate for authentic flavors. However, I have often found that many restaurants fail to deliver the genuine culinary experience. In this regard, Mint & Mustard stands out as an exceptional establishment, offering the finest curry I have encountered in Cardiff, surpassing all but the exceptional biryani served at weddings.

Just had the Showstopper for lunch which was so tasty and delicious with just the right amount of food and a lovely mixture of flavours, Paneer, dumplings and Lamb Rogan Josh all for £10.. you can't go wrong. My server Swapnali was very attentive and friendly.. definitely be back again .. I came here for my birthday before Christmas with 40 of my friends and the staff and food were amazing.. Quality Curry House that serves old favourites as well as tasty new dishes. In its genre, I would say best in South Wales if not beyond. Did enjoy the Pakora Scotch egg!

Absolutely superb meal. A popular places as it was packed.

Wanted a great but inexpensive lunch, so I went for the set menu, 'Classics' option, for £10. Service was attentive and polite. Water was provided immediately. The place was clean and neat. A glass of wine was on offer at a bargain price of £3 with the menu I chose. A delicious sauvignon blanc was provided. The food was attractively presented and was hot and delicious. I liked the 2 chutneys/sauces, too. I decided to go for some plain Naan (£3.50) and it was essential for mopping up the fragrant chicken curry. The bill came with a chocolate, prize drawer entry and free wine coupon. £16.50 in total. Couldn't fault it all, so 5 stars from me! Can't wait to go again.

Had a lovely meal here last night. Very good quality and very tasty. Staff were very pleasant and the staff appeared to know a lot of customers, so appeared to have a lot of regulars. 21/2 pints of kingfisher, pickles and poppadoms, 2 starters; 2 mains with nan and rice £70 with the 10% service. Lovely. Definitely coming back

The 5 stars across the board may seem a bit bland and thoughtless but this is a lovely restaurant with great food and good service without being too intrusive. I go with friends and always try something new - I haven't been disappointed yet. A great place to catch up with friends or have a quieter night with family. Have used them as a takeaway also.

We moved away from Cardiff nearly 2 years ago and returned on a short weekend break - we made straight for Mint and Mustard. The food, atmosphere and service were as excellent as ever, and the manager, Ram, remembered us and gave us such a warm welcome. Thanks to M&M, with special mention to Ram - we recommend it!

A great place, lovely food , I generally have the salmon which is gorgeous. The staff are welcoming and friendly.

Service was excellent and quick, the restaurant was lovely and clean. We ordered 3 starters dishes, seekh kebab was to die for, onion bahji’s were nice, we were not mad on the tandoori chicken trio, the chicken was cooked beautifully but we felt that they all tasted the same. For mains the kheema nan was tasty, chips were okay some felt undercooked but the rice was beautiful. We had the soulful beef curry which was lovely and the clay pot rustic chicken curry which we were not fussed on, the curry tasted rather bland. The portion sizes were excellent for the price!

Delicious food and fabulous warm, friendly and helpful service from the young waitress. Our meal was served promptly and we were in the restaurant for approximately an hour. Prices are not cheap, but we were happy to pay for quality. We were disappointed to note a 10% service charge added to the bill. We would have preferred to tip our waitress directly and choose the amount. This aside, the experience was a positive one.

Disappointing. Have eaten many times here and food has always been excellent. Today the food was not good. The poppadoms were not fresh like usual and the lamb rogan josh poor. The sauce described as spicy was very.bland. Hopefully this was just a one off.
