Simply isn’t very good.. I’ve had a few great meals in the Clay Pit but I’ve had as many poor meals too.. I’ve just eaten a chicken korai which on the menu is listed as Spicy and it simply wasn’t.. to me it was a poor medium chicken curry with added green peppers and onions. Sorry guys it was less than ordinary.

Really good take away meal, dhansak was the best I've had for ages. Off the menu saag channa was well above standard fare. We'll definitely eat from here again.

Having heard much about this place we booked for a family get together as we all love Indian food and have eaten in various places, but this was very disappointing. We each chose a different meal and all of us commented how bland and tasteless they were, they lacked something. As poor as the food was, the Staff are lovely and cannot be faulted, but I am sorry Clay Pitt, we won’t be returning.

The Clay Pit is near to where we live, so we love eating in and taking away! The good is great- and very ‘clean’. The service is lovely and the staff are great. Our all time favourite Bangladeshi restaurant! 😘

My family visited on Friday 1 March and enjoyed food of tremendous quality, beautifully cooked and the service was fantastic, very friendly. And the bill for food and drinks was aa very pleasant surprise! We all recommend the Clay Pit very highly, thank you!

Dissapointed.... nothing sizzling about this Sizzling Chicken Tikka. Had this in the restaurant so thought I would order as a takeaway. Big Mistake 🙁

/ we have been there twice, unfortunately. The first time the food was late, cold and the wrong order. No apologies and reluctantly brought the "fresh" order by which time the party I was with had finished their food. The restaurant was not busy so I have no idea what the reason for the errors were. The second time I went was to take some friends and the only reason we went is because we wanted a curry but our favourite restaurant, was fully booked. Anyway, this time around the poppadoms came out, stale. We sent them back and we're sure the same poppadoms were returned. When we eventually got our food, it was again cold. The service was truly appalling and the staff ever so rude. The food is very overpriced as well, in my opinion. I will pay good money for good food but here, one will be wasting their money on poor quality food. Avoid and head further in to town for a much more enjoyable time with quality food.

Extremely cold and wet Sunday lunchtime, Clay Pit looked inviting so stepped inside. Great choice, food absolutely superb from the starters to main course. As it was a buffet no shortage of choice, so many delicious curries to try. Nevertheless tried them all, couldn't fault a thing. It is great value for money, lovely setting and friendly attentative staff. Loved the experience and will without a shadow of doubt be back, best Indian restaurant I've eaten in, shall sing your praises far and wide.

The food here is absolutely delicious. Eaten here with friends from Surrey, better than their local ones they said.

Food was good and reasonably priced . Arrived at 8.35 pm and think staff were hoping to go home. Staff polite but not friendly and felt that we were being rushed .

I'm not to good with this type of food but they had an entirely different menu from the norm, and it looked interesting before you decide what to order. I enjoyed my meals and everybody else in our party thought it was great.

Noticed this after parking outside waiting for the kids, lots of people going in and out, asked around and those that had been recommended it! It was well worth the visit, glad we booked on a Frday night as it is quite small inside and was fully booked most of the evening. Authentic Bangladeshi cooking, quite a lot of fish and sea food as well as the more traditional food us brits go for. They even had Crocodile, venison and lobster dishes - spoilt for choice. Had king prawn purree and shami kebabs, followed by Goan sea bass on a bed of coconut potatoes and the sizzling platter with bhajees and naan, coffee and several roaunds of drinks for 2 people only £65. Really nice furniture etc, nicely spaced out and very friendly young staff - obviuosly locals. Felt very welcome and they helped choose things t go with dishes. thanks. Agreed what we had had just the right amount of spice and heat.

Interesting choice on the menu of Bangladeshi food. Well presented dishes and excellent service from Mo and Ali. We'll be going again next time that we're in Penarth.

The restaurant provided excellent customer service. The food had plenty of flavour and was not too hot! Would recommend this restaurant but must book a table in advance. They also provide a take away service which is also worth looking at.

We called the day before to book a table, and I am glad we did - the restaurant is quite small, so I would recommend booking in advance. We enjoyed the food, starters of onion bhaji, mains of Balti, Saag Paneer and Nan.

Great choice of dishes which seem to offer something different to nearby run of the mill restaurants. Nicely decorated with great ambience.

With a menu containing all the usual favourites, executed to a standard well above the norm, The Clay Pit is a very welcome new addition to Penarth's already excellent array of restaurants.

We have eaten in the restaurant and had numerous takeaways since they opened, always very good until last evening - have they changed the Chef? Tasteless and lack of chicken in the Korma, too much oil (gee?) in the Chicken Balti, dissapointing.

We visited for the first time tonight. Delighted to find the owner used to work at The Balti Cuisine in Cardiff: our favourite curry house. So some stiff competition!
