We had a wonderful 3 days stay at the City Inn, Truro The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. In the seating area of the bar, there is a lovely log open fire, where you can sit and relax. The regular customers were very friendly and all of them spoke to us . Sonia and her team, were very friendly and interacted with us all throughout our stay and nothing was too much trouble for any of them. The room we stayed in was well decorated and had everything we needed. It was lovely and warm and clean. The food was excellent, prepared on the premises. Everything was cooked to perfection and very tasty and the steak was just as we asked for it to be done. The portions were more than enough and excellently presented. The location of the City Inn is 5 mins walk to the Town Centre and there is an excellent local taxi service if required. We are going to stay there again in December and look forward to seeing Sonia and her friendly team again then.

I visited with friends to have food and drinks, when I finally got my meal after a long wait (which is expected in these busy times) there was a big blonde hair in my cheeseburger! I complained and the waitress was very lovely about it but then what I've come to know as the chef took every opportunity to glare at our table! Made us feel so uncomfortable as a table of young women, won't be returning!

No landlady on the premises. I read a review that said 'banging breakfast' well I think the person that wrote that must've been banged on the head...see pics I had booked to stay 2 nights but just about managed 1. If you have mobility issues this is NOT the place for you, nowhere close to park, nothing inviting to make you want to eat...see breakfast selection pictures. Would I reccomend.....NO

A 4-day visit but ended in 2 as we were asked to leave, because we complained about the room we were in, their were no facilities such as tea bags, etc nowhere to put your clothes, we had a 8” bracket on the wall with two coat hangers, no bedside cabinets I had a arm chair, no bedside lamps and when we came back from a N.T visit the beds were not made, not their jobs to do that or Hoover. Breakfast we had a 6” slice of bacon and a egg plus toast, no saucer to our cups of tea/coffee on, sorry about this revue but we were not happy at all, a d I just like to tell other people who are likely to stay.

I booked three rooms for six people for four nights, Through Buy A Gift.We initially had to walk through a passageway and then up stairs. The cleanliness left much to be desired and was a real turn off.The pub is bordered by a main road at the front, literally six feet from it,and a main line railway at the rear. For light sleepers do not expect much sleep!! The Flat was adequate, but the two other bedrooms had little or no hanging/storage space, and one of those rooms had water ingressing from the bathroom floor. That room was changed but the replacement could just take two single beds only.Breakfast was adequate, but toast was served in whole rounds, coldish,on a plate.Saucers were not in evidence. The owner could not accept that a pub should offer daily making up of rooms,or that clients views are important. Both of which were ignored and I was told how rude I was because I identified how below par things were.Cleanliness left much to be desired, there was no atmosphere in the pub and it was noticeable that no guests frequented the pub, neither did locals!! We were told to leave as she was not used to dealing with such a rude and difficult person, even though my friends fully agreed with my criticisms. A sad episode never experienced before in over twenty years of booking two to four night breaks. This pub should not be on any list of accomodation available to the public.

I made a mistake with my booking online and the 'owner' Sonia Forgham refused to credit me back even though I had re-booked with the right date. I sent several emails and made at least six phone calls over a three week period. She made every excuse not to credit me and insisted it was the agent Eviio's responsibility, This was completely wrong and Eviivo also chased City Inn on my behalf for the credit. Finally she credited me but also cancelled my booking for the correct date. So inconvenient and very, very rude.

We booked a two- night stay through buy-a- gift, to visit relatives. After a 250 mile trip,we were "greeted" buy a rude lady, who when asked about parking, said there was none, and said we should park on the path outside, or in a carpark down the road by some shops, which was free afer 4pm. When we said my wife had mobility problems, walking any distance, she said my wife would also have to access our room.None of this was mentioned when booking. She went on to say, that she lost money on our vouchers. Needless to say, we had to book another (very nice hotel) at more expense. My niece who works in the council offices across the road, say they no longer eat or drink there, due to the atmosphere, and quality at the inn.

Stayed here for one night , on walking in to the pub, it smelt of coal and soot, no fires were lit and I'm guessing by the smell of soot hasn't been for a while, which was a shame because it was raining and freezing, there was two half walls full of wood aswel. We were greeted by a woman don't know her name as she never introduced herself, we were given keys and showed the stairs that led to all rooms , it was s basic room , that was ok as only staying 1 night , it was dated not very clean there were hairs caught on dressing table top, it had central heating but it wasn't on , we had a couple of drinks down stairs in the evening, but still no fires lit , all in all I wouldn't stay again not overly friendly staff didn't get much of a choice at breakfast as they didn't have some of the breakfast products in coffee machine wasn't working,

Delighted with my one night stay for a work visit. Arrived at 2000 and was the only one eating but chef had no issue with cooking me steak and chips, which saved me a trip into the main part of town. Friendly atmosphere in bar. Single room was spotless and I loved the decorative touches. Excellent breakfast with cereals, yoghurt, fruits, full English and perforated coffee. The owner seems to be working through the Inn and doing it up bit by bit in an attractive style. The helpful staff had no problem with me staying a bit later on the comfy sofa in front of the fire to do a bit of work before heading off for my meeting. Nice to stay in a place with a bit of character and would reccommend .

First visit to the city inn, unplanned just walked past and noticed they were serving a carvery from 12, we were very hungry and it was 12.05 so popped in. The pub was very quiet. It had a lovely traditional pub feel to the place which is hard to come by these days. The landlady was very friendly and welcoming. The carvery was very good, a choice of three meats and we were allowed to have a bit all three! The meat was all very tasty, perfectly cooked. Reasonable selection of veg, carrots, runner beans and cabbage. Roast potatoes were very nice. The only thing g missing for me was a bit of cauliflower cheese! All in all a very nice roast dinner for a very reasonable price. My only slight complaint was that carvery was advertised from 12 but didn't actually come out until 12.30, I'm glad it was worth the wait!

City inn is situated on the edge of Truro town centre. The exterior is clean and tidy with no on site parking. There is a public car park 100 yards down the road which is free 16:00 to 09:00 7 days a week. 2 hours parking was £3.00 . This was opposite the police station. There is a busy main road running past it with a railway viaduct running to the side. Inside the pub looks in need of a good clean and makeover. Access to the first floor rooms is via a steep staircase. My room was at the top of the stairs and was clean and tidy. The toilet and shower were clean. The shower was access by a wooden step and the floor of the shower was very slippery. The room did not have a wardrobe just a rack on the wall to hang clothes on. I found out that the wardrobe shape in the corner was actually the kitchen extract duct. Very noisy after 8 am.The bar was mainly for ale drinkers. No malt whiskies or decent rum.The breakfast was adequate, although the cheerios in the bowl were soft. The staff were pleasant and helpful.

I was working for one day in Truro, so came in from London the day before. The staff were very welcoming, the food was delicious and the room was clean, tidy and everything that I needed for a very short stay. Opened a tab on my room and enjoyed watching the football in the lounge/bar area whilst eating a very generous serving of gammon, potatoes and veg - good wifi meant I could carry on working both in the bar and upstairs in my room. If you're in Cornwall on a short business trip then I'd highly recommend staying here, far cheaper and more friendly than the big commercial hotel chains. If I work in Truro at any point in the future I will definitely be staying again.

Stayed here on a Saturday night in the midst of the heatwave. We stayed in room 3 overlooking the main road below. The heat meant we had to sleep with the window wide open but the road was mercifully quiet and didn’t detract from the stay.Unfortunately the furnishings did. Whilst the room was spacious and clean, as was the bathroom, the decor was very worn and tired (witness the iron burn in the carpet at the foot of the bed and the very old Nylon valance) and the mattress very lumpy and likely cheap or old, or both. All of this paled in the face of the biggest issue this room suffers from. It’s curtains! It has a charming, if wasted bay window overlooking the road. (A couple of chairs or a small sofa would be great here,) with a pair of curtains set back on the wall, leaving 4ft between the window and the curtain. These curtains have no lining and do not reach the floor. Therefore a 4.30am wake-up call, from which there is no respite is unavoidable as the sunrises onto the front of the pub and the poor curtains mean that they provide no shade from this bright start to your day. This was however the worst aspect of what was an otherwise pleasant stay. The bar has an odd character but was comfortable enough place to sit and enjoy late night drinks and conversation with friends before retiring. The stay was entirely redeemed by a fabulous full English breakfast on Sunday morning to which every component ingredient was piping hot and perfectly cooked. Compliments to the Sunday breakfast chef.Overall, not bad and what should one expect for £50?!Change the carpet, the mattress and the curtains in room 3, stick a two seater into the window add a tenner a night and you’re onto a winner.

On the day of our arrival we decided to have an evening meal, and Sonia had arranged for some superb chefs to do a Balkanian BBQ, which will be a feature on a frIday night in future. All the food came as a surprise, but it was delicious, and very tasty, cooked in the garden by charming chefs. Four of us thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Visited the City Inn on a Sunday. Table of 3! We did ring ahead but on arrival the pub only had 2 other eating customers so we chose a table. The bar maid was friendly & the pub had a good traditional feeling. Poor vegetarian option on the carvery of a veg pie :( I decided to have just vegetables & the Chef did vegetable gravy. The chicken was cooked well. The vegetables were slightly lacking a bit of flavour. No cauliflower cheese, but what was there carrots, cabbage, roast pots, parsnips and swede was cooked very well! Yorkshires looked like Aunt Bessies frozen ones! Nothing amazing - the pub is only in the early stages of offering a carvery! Advertise a bit more, do a better vegetarian option and add some cauli cheese and/or red cabbage & raisins to give the veg some zing! Thanks City Inn! Very clean & modern toilets! The placemats, cutlery and tables could have been cleaner! Very friendly traditional pub on the outskirts of the City :)

The pub was empty upon arrival. Staff were friendly and polite. We asked where the garden was as we came with dogs. We were shown out to a courtyard style rear space. Immediately out side the back door you were hit with the stench of cigarette butts! Obviously the area outside the back door is used as a smoking shelter and the butt pots & buckets aren't emptied regularly enough! The floor was also covered in ash and fag butts! The garden benches look tired. They appear to have been jet-washed which has left them very splintery! We ordered from the limited lunch time menu of sandwiches (4 fillings to choose from) or omelettes both served with chips. The kids had tuna and we had cheese & pickle and BLT. The service was quick enough but the bread (white and brown) was a cheap 'toastie loaf' type. The sort you get from the corner shop as a last resort when you run out! Sandwiches were ok but I'd expect a decent bread for the money. The chips were good. Condiments left something to be desired! A small pot of sachets. Had to ask for more as there was only one ketchup & 2 mayo! Switch to bottles of sauce and vinegar and you'll win more points! All in all an ok visit but wouldn't make an effort to come back. Revamp your beer garden, empty your fag bins, sweep up the fag ash and use decent bread!

We booked a few nights here at the weekend as were down visiting family. On Fridsy night we could hear the bar music a bit at night but we did to an extent expect that. This is situated in a great location and it's a very very short walk into the city centre. Parking is limited but we did manage to park right outside one day. Pub itself looks lovely and the staff were friendly but we only went in to collect the keys. The stairs are extremely steep to get up/down so caution to elderly/young families, the room itself was ok, basic but sound. On this occasion we requested a cot but there wasn't one in the room. The double was too small to fit a baby in with us (obviously in a safely made area), and our other son was in the single bed.The window in the room was at a very low level and opened low so you must be cautious with small children, although that said I was a bit on the cold side so didn't open it too much.Decent amount of tea/coffee and whilst you get clean cups each day we didn't get anymore milk so couldn't have a brew the next day. Decent amount of towels and toiletries. TV in room.Wouldn't stay here again if the kids were with us due to stairs/window/lack of cot even though we requested but would be possibly if on our own/as a couple.

Visited for a three-night getaway. I wanted a reasonably central location and that's what I got! Less than 10 minutes from the main shopping and restaurant area of the city, though be warned; it's a long walk up that hill back to the room when you've had a long day!The room itself was very comfortable (Room 5). The bed was very good, duvet soft and ample pillows. Shower room also excellent, good pressure and plenty of hot water. And the breakfast: what can I say? Good local ingredients cooked well, with lots of choice and good-sized helpings. The hosts were friendly and very helpful, especially Peter who provided front of house at breakfast. So why only 4 stars? Well if I could I would have given 4.5. The only downsides were very small but did stop that extra star! There was no water glass provided. A small thing and I'm sure that if I'd asked for one, it would have been given to me. But I think this should have been automatically provided. And the only other off-note was the soap! Perfectly fine bar of soap provided when I checked in, and used slightly by me. But when I returned for my second night, the used soap had gone and was not replaced. Nor was it replaced for the final night. Again, a little thing that could have been rectified, but like the water glass, I shouldn't need to ask.So as I said, a nearly perfect stay and I will be more than happy to come back again. Thank you

We are a family with a 4 year old, 5 month old and a dog. We wanted to get away for a few days to visit friends in and around Truro. The selling point of this place was allowing dogs.I had various email contact with Tina prior to arriving which was helpful in me planning our trip. When we arrived we were shown to our room which for a family room was a fantastic size and very clean. The tea making facilities/ tv were good. The parking is opposite the city inn, in a council run car park, parking charges and in operation between 9am - 4pm due to our days being so busy we didn't need to pay.The only slight negative point was the inn faces onto a busy road so can be a bit noisy, ear plugs are provided but travelling with small children wearing them were not an option however it didn't effect my sleep but for a light sleeper may be an issue.Overall a great stay in Truro and would certainly stay at the City Inn again.

I spent several days exploring the southern half of Cornwall during midsummer. I had looked at staying in some of the coastal towns but the prices can be nearly as high as central London during high season. Instead, I stayed in Truro and I was grateful that I did. Truro is centrally located for driving to the coastal destinations and the City Inn made my stay affordable. It was rainy one of the days I was there so rather than explore the coast I toured the city. The City Inn is exceptionally well located for seeing Truro on foot. Truro Cathedral is less than 10 minutes away and the High Street is just beyond. After a long day exploring the pub is a welcome place to come back to for a good meal and a drink. I recommend the locally brewed Betty Stogs ale. Take a few moments to appreciate the array of beer mugs that adorn the ceiling, many of them are clever and funny majolica. My room was quite spacious and although it faced the street the noise level was negligible late at night. The shared bath worked beautifully and I never experienced a wait to use it. The full English breakfast was very generous and included some delicious local sausage that had won an award. The staff was exceptionally friendly and provided me with advice on places to visit. I could not recommend it more highly.

The hosts/landlord/lady were the perfect hosts as nothing was too much for them. My overnight stay was business related & although I didn't dine there during the evening of my stay, the Full English Breakfast was to die for as it kept me going until late afternoon. They have a wonderful Chihuahua (trust me, I had to check the spelling of that one !!) by the name of Titan would you believe. He's the most affectionate, loving dog I think I've seen in a long time & does Meerkat impressions. Pete the landlord knows exactly what I'm talking about. This is a very pleasant place to be & would fully recommend an overnight stay as they also serve up a couple of local ales.

Another meal - Fish and Chips this time, before my friend and I visited the Hall for Cornwall. Top class meal, the St Mawes supplied fish is huge and SO fresh. Such a nice atmosphere in this Pub, and an easy walk down to the Theatre afterwards.

Spent 2 nights at this great pub/hotel. Situated about 1/4 mile from the heart of Truro. Everything about the place was great. Great hospitality from the owners, Pete and Tina. A great welcome for our dog from their chihuahua Titan. Excellent breakfast, great choice of lunch and dinner menu at reasonable prices. Great real ales available. The rooms have been recently decorated and our room was ideal. Allowing our dog to stay with us was fantastic. The locals were all very friendly. Could not have asked for a better place to stay. Will use again and recommend to the rest of our family.

I was so upset that when we booked this place on line they said the had ensuite bathrooms . We book only 2 people staying .I feel this was miss advertising. Also the breakfast was not good and very expensive. It's a very over priced place to stay . It's was clean and I did sleep. 5

Fantastic service, unbelievable quality and value on every dish along with the most welcoming, warm and accommodating hosts. The rooms were kept in immaculate condition, the food and drinks were spot on and the Inn really felt like a home from home. Have yet to stay away anywhere better.

Thank you to Tina and Peter, what a welcome, we were made to feel at home as soon as we arrived. Although they have only recently taken over they have made the inn theirs, everything about it is welcoming. We had room 5 and it was a treat overlooking the beer garden, all refurbished and so clean the on suite bathroom was lovely. We were there for a party and the food cooked by Tina was excellent, the garden looked very sparkly with lights all round, and the bar staff were able to cope with loads of people without loosing their smiles. The breakfast again provided by Tina was freshly cooked and most enjoyable. We are looking forward to our next visit, well done to you all (particularly Titan)

Popped into the City inn one evening last week and what a welcome!! Tina and Peter are the friendliest landlords we have come across on our travels, they could not have done more to satisfy our every need. Food was great, hot and tasty. The selection of real ales wonderful, didn't get time to sample them all but will be returning very soon. If you want a warm welcome in a really friendly pub, just off the beaten track you couldn't find better than The City Inn. I will defiantly be returning with family and friends and recommending the pub to others. Good luck Tina and Peter. See you soon.

We were so surprised when visiting again. The new owners have transformed it to what it should be- a traditional old Cornish pub, with a cosy, inviting, warm and friendly atmosphere rather than opting for another Gastro pub. Furthermore, the food was excellent and we have since been back again. I can honestly say they serve the best fish and chips I have ever tasted! The menu is good and the food is all locally sourced and homemade to perfection. Well worth a visit!

The City Inn serve locally sourced food freshly cooked - menu not huge (which I think is a good indication of quality and freshness), nevertheless something there for all tastes with vegatarians being catered for. Prices are reasonable and portions are sufficient (nothing worse than a plate pilled high - so off putting). Recommend the fish pie served with seasonal veg. yum !

Beautiful building. Amanda the barmaid/waitress was very helpful and friendly. My family had the ham egg and chips, which was outstanding. I had fish and chips, the fish was delicious and fresh. The puddings were sinful and beautifully made.

We stopped for an ice cream while on the search for our car keys which we lost on the beach!! 🤦🏽‍♀️ The rum and raisin ice cream was AMAZING and no complaints from the kids and hubby with their choices! The lovely gent who served us got his wife Zara to help us with locating the keys which luckily where found and left at the RLNI across but was closed, she managed to find someone who got the keys So thank you so much for your help lovely people and for the ice creams! 🥰 wishing you all the best x
