Chiverton tap never disappoints. It welcomes everybody. Great selection of cask ale. Good atmosphere. Almost always something good yet different on the bar. Staff generally superb. Exclusively British fayre; no foreign muck. Only complaints would be that it can be too “dog friendly” & the bar can feel like a post office counter at times due to the wooden uprights.

Been coming to the Chiv for a few years, on and off, to meet my brother for a few good ale's that never disappoint, but today we were confronted with more baby buggies and kids than you might see at a McD's Trust me, Im not an "old fogey" but surly this should be an ale house where you can get away from that? Its going to be a while before those kids buy your ale landlord!

Always loved the Chiv. However, very disappointed tonight to be asked for "last orders" at 10pm because we're the only customers left in the establishment. If you advertise your opening hours you should stick to them.

Well as the title suggests this was an establishment that favoured locals. Went to this bar early evening with long time friends. As we entered, a staff member asked how long we were staying as we surveyed an almost empty bar. Not a good start, but worse was to follow. Can we start a tab was met with leave your card behind the bar for security reasons. Never in a long drinking career have I been asked that question. We were all retired and my wife was on crutches, hardly likely candidates for running back to the station without paying. Ordered 3 pints of Jaipur cask and a white wine. Beer was passable but lost its head very quickly. Just had the one round and paid, then retrieved my bank card as the glitterati of Cheadle Hulme were arriving, more important 30 somethings. Left for Archive next door where the welcome was much better earlier in the day. Will not be back.

After suffering during lockdown venues like the Chiverton Tap are coming into their own now. Great selection of beers, chalked up on the blackboard with full details and the staff are very knowledgeable and personable. Screens between areas in some parts where the seating is close. We've always booked post-reopening, but they do walk-ins. If you get a window table, excellent for people-and-train watching. Card payments only (I think).

Just great to have the Chiverton Tap back! Went yesterday to try out Post-Lockdown Chiv and Mary, Bob and the staff have done a brilliant job of reinventing this fabulous pub for these challenging times. It’s lost none of its charm, friendliness or quality but they’ve gone above and beyond to ensure everyone is as safe and protected as they can be - from hand sanitisers throughout, table service, the ordering app to carefully distanced seating and bar screens. Really well done, chaps - we had a fabulous afternoon.

We called in early afternoon for a drink, when it was very quiet, although friendly service from the poor lady suffering with a cold. We needed to eat and although the Tittertons pies with interesting chutneys looked nice, we left to get something more substantial. When we returned, it was really busy with a nice friendly atmosphere. Very doggy friendly, in fact there were nearly as many dogs as humans. Lots of children early evening too.We liked the pictures on the walls of the pub's former life, and the amusing route to the toilets although not everyone is comfortable with the communal sinks. I'd like to see some "girlie" beers such as fruit beers or wheat beers, although the lager was good and they had some interesting spirits - toffee vodka and Kendal mint cake liqueur for example. Enjoyed our visit and will return.

If you’re looking for a model micro-brewery pub, come and have a few drinks in this one. There’s quite a variety of beers - although I’d love to find a craft brewery that produced a good, “cooking bitter” like Tetley or London Pride, as well as all the hoppy, wheaty and fruity stuff that’s becoming commonplace in these spots. I can drink one or two of these crafty beers, but I’d really struggle doing a proper session. But the bar staff were great - happy to provide samples - and friendly about it, whilst the vibe in the place was relaxed but buzzing too. Happy to go back & search for my dream bitter.

Visited in July 2018. A warm and welcoming place to enjoy a beer or two. It maintains the remnants of the old Chiverton haberdashery. So nice to chat and relax without the usual disturbance of slot machines and loud music. It's mainly for people who want to enjoy good ales and conversation, so the crowd is older than most of the bars in the area, which is fine for me and friends. In contrast to the totally absurd and offensive review to the hundreds of people, young and old who frequent the Chiv, here is my view. This micro pub is an absolute gem as confirmed by CAMRA in awarding it pub of the year. We have been here many, many, times with family and friends of all ages. The decor is in keeping with the original premises use i.e. a drapery and millinery shop with clever use of the tools of this particular trade. The seating is purposely designed to encourage conversation with other customers creating a fabulous atmosphere where new friends are often made. The drinks offering is superb with plenty of choice of both cask ales and keg beers which are carefully chosen by the owners to both delight and sometimes challenge the taste buds (in a nice way). The is also an extensive range of bottled beers, gins (around 20 different types last time I looked), vodkas (a similar quantity), whiskeys and various other spirits and liquors.Obviously some people have no taste or concept of how a proper pub should be or alternatively have some agenda to move custom or awards to another public house. This place was first "billed" as a community pub and it continues to achieve this aim by bringing local people together to enjoy a chat or a board game or a game of cards or an Italian language lesson over a superb beverage. Finally the staff are excellent. They know their stuff and are happy to recommend drinks based on your personal taste. So in summary John H and his "care home for the elderly review" is utterly ridiculous. I also note that this person has only reviewed two pubs and didn't have a good word to say about either. So maybe he should stick to his beloved Circus Tavern or Grey Horse and spout his poisonous reviews there.

Well I marched up to the top of the hill – to the vaunted Chiverton Tap – and then couldn’t march down fast enough. If you’re under 60, vegetarian, claustrophobic, or female this may not be the place for you. It’s a bit like a miniature care home for the elderly – full of the soon to be departed longing to put their chairs in a circle; too much dribbling and wobbling all round. I was expecting someone to ask for my bus pass. It’s called the “Tap” and I guess that’s the clue – it’s modelled on the Tap Rooms of yesteryear – poky, soulless bare-floored places hidden at the back of normal pubs: where old-timers with personal hygiene problems were exiled to cuss, smoke, tell dodgy jokes, discuss whippets or pigeon fancying, eat meat pies, play board games, and spit of the floor. Well it’s like that, but without the spitting or smoking (or sadly access to a ‘normal’ pub). Another name for the Tap Room of course was the Vault, and this is a clue – it should perhaps be renamed The Chiverton Vault, for there is something decidedly funereal here; too hushed to be genuinely existent; the last lair of the undead. You can however get food. Well if you call a tiny pork pie (at an exorbitant price) food that is; and yes they’re kept in a glass cabinet, just like at Roy’s Rolls in Corry. In fact apart from the beer that’s virtually all you can get by way of sustenance (although the pies are served with a teasing option of mustard or chutney – “yummy” as one TripAdvisor reviewer put it). The bar area, to me, although cosy, lacks atmosphere and looks like it was constructed quickly and not that expensively. In contrast to the equally small but much loved Circus Tavern or Grey Horse in Manchester, this is a former draper’s shop – and it shows, with what stock was seemingly left being used, economically, to decorate the walls (cotton reels in shabby-chic cabinets etc). So it’s all a bit cheap but not that cheerful – the easy butt of jokes about being bobbins or soon to be curtains. Indeed, it’s also too easy to think that, unlike the Circus Tavern or Grey Horse – which have both been around forever – this won’t be. Easy up, easy down. I give it about five years – until the novelty wears off and the (craft) beer caravan moves on. And on the subject of the beer, it appears that some of the products on offer may be in danger of losing their appeal. A guy I talked to suggested that, notwithstanding the unchanging Bollington stuff (which is apparently standard in similar shops-turned-bars locally – e.g. Mounting Stone in Bramhall, Cask in Poynton), the choice isn't as varied as one might expect, with several offerings (e.g. Torrside; Squawk) appearing all too regularly for some people’s liking. So that’s it. In sum, if you want a small, blokey, Tap Room/Vault experience (plus expensive pork pies) then this is for you. If not, then it’s possibly time to return to a more established kind of public house. In fact, the train station is opposite, and so you can use your senior rail pass to get to more time-honoured pubs of Stocky or Manc. Oh and yes dogs are allowed. Grrrr.

After numerous good reviews of this establishment I finally rolled up. A lovely clean place with an array of unusual beers to go for. I tried a couple of pints of which was stunning to my taste buds.101% try here if want a real ale experience.

Visited the Chiverton Tap and had 2 great evenings, the beer was spot on and I enjoyed the Beer Tapas. The pub was friendly and the staff very knowledgeable about what they were selling. I will be back

Lovely place to drop in for a drink especially a beer with local brews allways available. Not particularly cheap but staff and surroundings make up for it. Bar snacks only available i think.

Shuts a bit early if you are planning to have an evening out here, or like me you can't really get out until 9.30 after the kids are in bed. Last orders is at 10.30 then they put pressure on you to leave from about 10.45.On the upside - the beer is truly excellent and the ambience pleasant.

First time we have been to the Chiverton Tap even though it is on our doorstep. We really enjoyed our experience. The staff were warm and friendly and recommended drinks to us based on what we liked. The toffee apple vodka and sparkling cloudy apple juice was delightful.Lovely atmosphere.Pork pie and chutney was very tasty and a good bar snack. Will be back.

I love this place. It's not for everyone but it's nice to have in the village. Welcoming, great beer and relaxed atmosphere.

Really nice little bar. Has a community feel to it .Lots of real ales to choose from. Not cheap but that deters the riff raff. Gluten Free bottled beer available which is great as lets face it this is not a big seller. Although I feel a sign in the window stating this would bring in more passing trade as a coeliac myself you assume they wont sell it. Anyhow great atmosphere here. Dog friendly too! Board games. One of the owners a bit standoffish but pleasant enough.

This is potentially one of my most local pubs but I tend to use it infrequently. Went in last night with friends and enjoyed the place. Good beer and lovely Malbec...Shame they don't do a 250ml large. While this will never be my local, it's a good place with a good atmosphere.

Great selection of beers, wines and spirits from around the country and supports local small brewers. Whilst wide choice on drinks the choice on food is limited because of the building size the Pork Pie is to be recommended Pie & Pint for a fiver - can't be bad.

Friendly atmosphere and a great selection of drinks from independent brewers - even the spirits are non mainstream.

Went to see what it was like having heard many different views, both good and bad. It's a bit of a quirky environment but it was perfectly comfortable with good beer and wine even though there's not a lot of room. Then it was invaded by three women AND small children who are noisy and who's mothers proceeded to push past both my jacket and walking stick and sat at the adjoining table, NO APOLOGY proffered. We and another table all drank up and left. Its a reasonable place with a very good range of drinks BUT NOT a place suitable for small children (at any time) and people who have to shout their requirements to their friends at the bar.

This is the antidote to noisy pubs with TVs and loud music. You can actually have a conversation here without being drowned out by background noise from "musak" and televisions. Just like an old pub used to be, a great selection of real ales, many of them from local micro-breweries and some lager and cider. There are books to read and board games to play if you are so disposed. No food served but there is a wonderful variety of crisps. Great for a night out with friends. Beer was also cheaper than many of ther other local pubs.

The menu offers everything you’d expect to see in your average British cafe. Food is always cooked wonderfully.😋 All of the staff are kind and helpful and will do anything to make you comfortable. The coffees are lovely too! The play room at the back is perfect for after you’ve filled your belly! I meet here all of the time with my mummy friends! They have a little gift shop too where you can find kids gifts 👌

This pub had a warm, friendly vibe and wood burning fire on. Upholstery throughout with wooden panelling on the walls.

I have been coming to this fab cafe since it opened with my children when they were younger with other mummies and have also used it as a business space. The staff are always really accommodating and since the pandemic have worked really hard to accommodate everyone they can whilst making everyone feel safe and welcome. The food is fantastic and we always recommend it to everyone. Even during a difficult time with the rules changing all the time they are still smiling and making everyone feel very welcome
