The Chippy in Newport

I place an order Saturday afternoon on 15th April 2023. The delivery was on time and that's the only positive. The chips was an odd colour, had a hint of grey to then and didn't taste right. The fish bites batter was hard and the fish meat inside was though and rubbery, as if they had been reheated. The mince beef pie didn't tate right, I opened the pie it was dry inside. I smelt the inside and I vomited. Can't even describe the smell. The lot was thrown in the bin. I never write reviews, but I was disgusted with my poor food quality. I'm also worried that someone could become seriously ill, if this continues. The owners need to be held accountable and need to be checking what's being produced on there premises.

I phoned up to order a pizza only to be told they didn’t serve it. But it’s on a brand new menu?. So I thought maybe they don’t take pizza orders over the phone, so I went in and asked again. Was told very rudely again that they didn’t serve them. Take it off your menu then. Liars as well as bad mannered

Orders a delivery in Just Eat called because it was late and they said it was on it’s way and it never arrived but they took out money!!! Avoid at all costs they lie and stole our money !!!!!!!!

Zero food rating. Just been on BBC news for mouse droppings in food. Avoid and save your money and hsalth

Got a take away here and was really nice and the staff were nice also. It did not take long very efficient.

So far the chippy is the nicest chip shop in Newport I’ve been to. Staff are always friendly and chatty.. cod chips and curry sauce taste amazing. My sister loves the chicken wraps here. If I’m craving a chippy this is where il go.

My partner ordered from the Chippy through Just Eat. He ordered me chicken curry and rice (could either have rice or chips with the curry, not half and half) and in the extras section could not find chips. So instead I also had potato fritter and a corned beef rissole. The food arrived and when I opened the box which held the chicken curry and rice it was only half full, the curry was the powdered stuff you add water to and they threw in a few little strips of chicken pieces. It was also only lukewarm. The potato fritter was appalling, worst I had ever eaten. The potato was too thick and not cooked through and the batter was not crispy. The corned beef rissole was average. I would never recommend this place to eat, cheap ingredients.

Food was cold and not good at all, been sat around is my guess as it was an hour late

poor quality food, extremely long delivery and the chicken curry and rice was such a small portion I wouldn’t even pay £2 for it let alone £5.99!!! very disappointing, order elsewhere!

I am ordered from you before and we had to wait two hours this time out gave us a time of 6,50 then changed it to 7,25 then it was still 20mins late and the food was warm

Drinks changed and no mushrooms in batter replaced for garlic mushrooms no phonecalls to ask if the changes where OK, resulting in me going with out! Fish and chips where amazing! But the "special burger" the chicken fillet wasn't spicy was just a normal chicken burger disappointed this time unfortunately

Food took over an hour and a half to arrive, once arrived it was lukewarm. I know weekends are a busy time but on this occasion the service wasn't good at all.

Fish was huge, batter could have done with longer but lovely all the same!

Terrible service, added 15 minutes to order time that was fine. Then 20 after they marked the delivery on the way they called to say there where out of the curry we ordered so agreed for them to replace it with gravy. Then they show up 25 minutes later still no apologies the staff member on the phone was very rude and no apology was given.

Items from my order missing and when I phoned to inform them they offered to send them out in over 30 mins, umm pretty sure the rest would have been cold by then!

Batter on fish only crisp on ends the rest was undercooked and soggy. The rest of the meal was fine.

I am so disappointed by this experience. There was not one single food item that was enjoyable. The Chips were tasteless in a way that I am speechless - like not what is expected from a Chip Shop - to get that wrong. The Chips tasted stale - like they had been recooked. I just felt like I was tasting something disgusting - so after only two chips I had to stop. The Batter of the Fish tasted bad and the gravy - you could really taste the powder. I can honestly say that everything was so bad I would not recommend and I will never order from this place again. I threw away £19.78 on the entire order. As for the delivery - the owner explained that the driver would be here later (than the 1:45pm expected time) - at 2pm. 2:15pm arrived and still no food. I called the restaurant and the landlord gave me his explanation that the driver didn't get on until 2pm - so this restaurant messed with the Just Eat system just to get the extra order when they should have went online after the drivers got online. What else to say about this restaurant, just a messy set-up from start to finish. Never again. Very disappointing, but the abysmal food - I'm shook!

Probably the worst takeaway I have ever had. Food took over 2 hours to come. when I rang they did the car had broke down but I had to ring a further two times after they said it would be 10 minutes. ordered they’re “special burger” and I assure you there is nothing special about it! To top it off food was cold.

Food was nearly 2 hours late. Freezing cold even after asking at the door if food was fresh before handing over money. Nothing but hassle trying to get a refund. Abysmal customer service.

Just eat stated our food would be delivered at 17:40, this was then pushed back to 18:10, according to the Just Eat app. We then did not receive our food until 18:30. It wasn’t until we called the shop and the excuse given was ‘the car has broken down.’ We pointed out if that was the case, why didn’t the shop call us to make us aware our order may be delayed. Also, after confirming we would not accept the order if it arrived any later that 18:30 and would demand a full refund, the food arrived at 18:30. We are extremely unsatisfied with the customer service delivered.

Food arrived late. I had to call to find out why and when the food eventually arrived, it was poorly presented, stale and greasy.

Very bad customer service, I have used this eaterie a few times and have always been pleased but not this time, the food arrived on time, but one of the fish looked like it had been in the bin and part of my order was missing, when I rang to report this, I was told I would have to wait up to an hour for the rest of the order. Then they rang me back and said I must have made a mistake to check my order again, they then told me I was wrong. Very poor. I won't be using this eaterie again.

Fantastic food, very tasty & good value. Food was piping hot & will definitely be using this chip shop again. Nothing was greasy & the food arrived over 30 mins early which was great.

I was told it would be with me at 18.55 not here at 19.05 phoned take away was told he had left 5 mins ago food didnt arrive till 19.25. And when it arrived it was cold

shocking. waited two hours and they still didn’t know when I’d be receiving my order. felt sorry for the worker as the manager obviously doesn’t care. had to cancel order and try to organise getting our money back with just eat, generally abysmal. WONT be ordering again.

Food arrived late and not even an apology from delivery person. I ordered a burger with salad and all I got was a piece of lettuce which looked like been left for days!! I am really not happy with food quality why ask if u want salad and then not put any in!!! won’t be using them again

Unbelievably rude and apathetic service on both occasions I’ve visited here. I won’t be making the same mistake a third time.

They added 25 minutes into the delivery time. When it did arrive the gravy had split and was everywhere in the back and an item was missing. Rang up as was told that I should have been refunded in cash as the missing item was not available (I was not), but they’d send a gravy and some chips (plus refund for said item) back out. Nearly an later the the items and refund turned up, but by this point most of the food was in the bin as the chips were hard and the fish was slimy. We will not be eating from here again.

Batter not crispy. Battered sausages look as bad as they taste. Took ages to deliver, with the order being delayed by 30 mins with the delivery being half hour after the delay time. Avoid. Much beter chippys in newport

Knew there was going to be a wait but waiting over 2.5 hours for food is disgusting to only have an extra sausage and batter... wow disgraceful.

I ordered food and a bottle of diet Pepsi. Delivery guy turns up with normal Pepsi? When I question this he said " they don't have an diet" I said I would ring shop. I phoned shop only to be told that they didn't have diet and would I accept a free bottle on next order?? I said no thanks and could they send delivery driver with £2.00 and he can collect the normal bottle of Pepsi. Was told that they didn't have any deliveries in my area for at least an hour but would get to me that night. That was last night and I'm still waiting for them to reimburse me and collect the wrongly delivered item!! Just not good enough!!!

Fish and chips were amazing and come in a box saving on washing up. Had to pay £1 for delivery and then another 50p was sneakily added on as a service charge, unjustifiable.

Food was amazing but having to wait almost 90 minutes for fish & chips seems way too long! Would still order again though!!

I had requested that the food should be drained of oil, the chips to be crunchy and to be labeled. none of these were taken into consideration. The food was oily to the extent that the wrappings were quite wet with oil.

Food was lovely but ordered 2 small sausage in batter @ 90p each but sent a large cut in half @ £1.30 and forgot to send battered mushrooms. Rang them and very helpful will give us free items when we next order.

Food was stated as delivered on the just eat app but bever recieved althou the card transaction has gone through. Tried to ring the chip shop directly and it closes at 10 so no reply.

30 minutes late resulted in the food being cold. Never again.

All of the food was hot and the gravy and fishcake was very tasty. Would definitely order again!

If you couldn't be bothered opening why bother you have charged me for a full order, full orders of chips are missing, curry sauce is missing the food isn't hot and I call straight away, and I hear you answer the phone to then cut me off. I am not one to complain publicly usually but I am very annoyed I have always had excellent service and food, the batter is doughy and below par and now I have to peel potatoes to make food for people. So Merry Flipping Christmas and thanks for that. Money hard earned and wasted.

Only slightly late, but the food was great. Massive piece of Cod with chips was really good. Sausages in batter were still crunchy when arrived and the onion rings were really good. We only love a couple of miles away so further out may take longer and not be as good but would def recommend. Considering this is proper chip shop food it was great for the price. Well done

Delivered on time , nice and hot and fantastic service.

Even though the food came a little late, the service was fab. They had the wrong address and sorted it out for us with no problems and the food was hot and tasty on arrival

Food was fine, went down a treat. But I must praise you on your absolutely fantastic delivery driver. The restaurant forgot our drinks so he went into the shop to buy some for us, unfortunately I didn’t have any cash on me to tip. So I’ll be re-ordering just to find this guy. So happy and pleasant, an absolute gentleman!

Scheduled delivery time changed after we ordered but we didn't mind. Food is always really good, if you pop in to get your food the owner is always friendly and chatty too. Best chippy in Newport

Very poor service, I ordered food over an hour ago and when it arrived there was no apology from the driver and the food was freezing cold. I phoned the restaurant twice and on both occasions I was told the food was 5 minutes away. I will not be ordering from this restaurant again, their delivery service needs to be improved.👎🏽

The delivery driver was absolutely shocking, he was extremely rude and almost broke my communal door trying to get in with his aggressive behaviour. He didn’t even ring the buzzer, instead he just started shouting ‘I’m getting wet’ and ‘I’m going to be soaking now’. The attitude on him was horrific! And to top it all off, they then delivered me a pie instead of a pasty, I then phoned them to tell them of their mistake to which they informed me that they had ‘run out of pasty’s! They said the driver would be up with a refund, but considering the driver acted like the rain was acid on his first trip, I wanted to save him the second trip (I can just imagine what he would have to say this time, I’m sure it would be a lot more abusive than the time he got wet)! So I then contacted just eat because I value my life more than a corned beef pasty! Overall I would definitely not recommend. Even beyond the spawn of Satan delivery driver, the food was mediocre. Curry sauce was powdered, chips were just cooked. So nope, I won’t be ordering from here again.

took over an hour for delivery from somewhere that’s less than 2 miles away, food was quite cold barely warm and they forgot one large sausage in batter (which wasn’t a great loss as it’s probably the worst I’ve had in the area) called the fish shop who said they would send another sausage but never materialised. complaint is also going in to Just Eat for this sub par experience and food would not order from here again and do not recommend the sausage in batter it’s like a sausage in a sponge

Always liked this place after ordering fish and chips from here for a year. Went for something different tonight, burger, pie and chips. On the plus side, the chips were as good as usual, the down side, the order was delayed, order was incorrect and there was grisle in the burger. Definitely a lack of care and attention and will not be ordering from here for a long time

After extending the delivery time half an hour, the food still managed to be just over half an hour late on said extension. When it arrived, the chips looked anaemic and had very little flavour, as was the case with the fish. The sausage was poor with hard bits throughout. The only redeeming feature was the curry sauce which was very nice in its own right. The owner was apologetic regarding the food being marked as delivered yet it had not arrived, and it being (at that point) a little bit late.

Did get a call to arrange a time due to traffic. Lovely food as usual.

Good food and fast delivery, although the driver was a bit abrupt. Food wasn't very warm so by the time we were half way through, it was pretty much completely cold! Would order again though as prices and minimum order is good.
