Food was top notch, very fresh and tastes great. Lovely setting too. All the staff were friendly and helpful

Never been here before, but had a very warm friendly welcome, fish and chips was very good, with light crispy batter. We were served by Orla, who impressed us with her customer care and attentiveness. We would definitely recommend this restaurant.

The finish was well made and the chips, however the packaging that was used had an odd smell that the whole food smelt of old cardboard , it was a real disappointment so we decided to throw it all away

We were served today and waited on by Orla she is a credit to your business, the food was superb , best curry sauce I've had in years, cod was lovely, but your assistants service was overall second to none, really polite and attentive to our needs, nothing was too much trouble for her and all with a little happy smile, we will return and highly recommend due to staff member taking great care of us, absolute credit to your chip shed in Bourton on water.

Very bad service if you pay take away box they will be very rude and remove you from their table. That’s incredible.

The service is bad. They kicked me out of the indoor sessions because I took the box order. They did not allow me to take ketchup either. The worst restaurant service ever. I don't recommend it at all

I was tired from touring the villages by car, so I decided to take advantage of this option. As with the Cotswolds itself, I felt a strong sense of Asian hatred that is unique to rural areas. In fact, I couldn't really understand the accent because it was so thick, but the clerk at the back was actually yelling abuse with a scary expression on his face. I was told it would take 7 minutes, but I had to wait for 30 minutes, and I don't know if that's what it meant, but they didn't provide any sauce or disposable cutlery. Since it looks like a tourist, I thought it would have been nice to have at least some information about the sauce. I've been to the UK several times and have eaten in Scotland, Ireland, and other places, but this was the worst fish and chips I've ever had, with ridiculously thick batter. The fish and chips I had at a restaurant in the same village were better. We recommend that you make a reservation. It was our last dinner in the village, and it was very disappointing. I really hope everyone in Asia doesn't waste a meal here.

Food was OK but not mindblowing. 8% discretion charge marked clearly on menu with a little sad face for if someone opts out. Bit of a cheeky practice really.

Some of the best chips I've had. The normal chips are cooked in beef drippings, which I went for, but you can also go for the veggie ones cooked in palm oil

Great and delicious , staff very friendly and smiling , thanks for the lady who served us . We ordered 2 fish & chips , calamari & soft drinks . Very recommended and they also have take away service if you like to take your lunch and eat it beside the river ( if not so crowded 😉 )

Pop in for fish and chips, scampi and chips couple soft drinks £42 bit steep I thought so checked my bill outside to see they have added a gratuity charge of 10 percent with out telling me.its a chip shop not a posh restaurant.plus meal came so quick it definitely wasn't freshly fried

For "award winning" chips, I can honestly say that we were really disappointed with our food, chips were dry and rubbery. Expected a lot better. A big let down to end a fabulous day.

We had a marvellous meal in the Chip Shed in Bourton on the Water on 27th April 2022 and it was worth every penny. Laura our server was a fantastic ambassador for the restaurant. She took care to check that she had taken our order down correctly & was very attentive to us throughout & was unfailingly polite. Our starters - prawn cocktail and the scampi were delicious and there was no scimping on portions either. The chicken and chips were cooked perfectly and were very tasty. I would heartily recommend that dish even though it didn't give me the option of recommending it in the menu below. We loved the place so much we stayed for dessert and coffee! Heartily recommend the sticky toffee pudding too. It was so light, not the stodgy standard which is the familiar fayre of most other restaurants. The meal ended a perfect evening drive and we shall be back. It's a wonderful place to eat & absolutely spotless into the bargain....and that is also the reason it sticks in my memory.

Did ask for 2 portions of fish, chips and curry sauce. We got 1 portion. The curry sauce was disgusting, the chips were all very bitty and the fish was dry. Batter was tasteless. Very disappointing

Maybe it's award-winning if you dine in? The takeaway was okay but a little soggy... And it would have been helpful if they had written which was the haddock and which was the cod on the takeaway boxes. The mushy peas desperately needed salt. The cod (I think?) was significantly better than the haddock but honestly I'm not sure which fish I ended up eating. Chips were a little hard and soggy.

Absolutely lovely food don't be fooled by smallset portions easily enough for an adult, really good value for money definately worth a visit 😀

Nice chippy! Sat in the restaurant part. The portions were about right too as some give loads of chips but you had a smallish basket here which was good to see. No complaints with any of the food at all.

Popped in on Friday for some dinner. Small thin piece of cod, chips dry a shrivelled. Very poor for the money Over priced tourist food.

I recently visited this restaurant for lunch with my family on May 29, and the experience was extremely disappointing. Upon arrival, we were given a buzzer and told the waiting time would be approximately 15-20 minutes. However, after checking in multiple times over the next 45 minutes, we were repeatedly informed that we were still waiting. To our surprise, we were later shouted at by the manager for not responding when we were supposedly buzzed. The buzzer never worked, and instead of addressing the issue calmly, the manager snatched the buzzer from us and threw it away. This behavior was incredibly rude and unbecoming of an establishment with such a reputation. The whole incident spoiled the rest of our day, and I would never recommend this place to anyone.

The Fish and chips taste horrible, the fries are moist, the fish is very greasy and no seasoning is added. The clerk has a poor service attitude, the store is very messy, and the floor is greasy. Very disappointed, this lunch ruined my day.

We ordered take away cod +chips + mushy peas. Food was tasteless, peas wasn’t fresh, asked about salt and vinegar on chips and that was ignored.

Absolutely love it here. We visit any time we go to the Cotswolds and recently sat and ate our food by the river on a hot day! The fish is absolutely incredible, as are the chips, battered sausage and curry sauce! We have also eaten inside the restaurant but much prefer the vibes of sitting by the river!

We pre ordered haddock, fish cake, chips, curry sauce and tartar sauce from the chip shed. The chips were dry and frankly awful. The fish was ok but had the skin on and the curry sauce was a cross between gravy and curry- not very nice. Also the tartar sauce didn’t taste like it should have. The fish cake was however, very good. I would not go here again and pay £19.50 for a poor meal. Trouble is, this chippy is the only one in Bourton so they have got a monopoly on price and food.

I purchased a bag of vegan chips, and to my disappointment, I found them to be soggy, undercooked, and comprised of a mix of fresh and stale chips.

The ambiance is great, but the reception staff lacks warmth. Upon arrival, they hastily offered to put us on a waiting list or suggested takeaway. It was disappointing, especially considering their stellar reviews. Ultimately, we opted for takeaway. While the fish was tasty, the chips were disappointingly dry. I wouldn't recommend this branch to a friend.

Ordered a takeaway and would like to have it near riverside. Freshly made battered cod and the tartare sauce tasted good. One bad thing is they said they don’t provide a fork which the fish is very hot to hold with hand. Not expected a “award-winning” restaurant won’t provide takeaway cutlery. A bit disappointing with the service.

Loved it. Brought back memories of good fish and chips. Terrific onion rings and cider. What’s not to like. Fabulous friendly service. Spotlessly clean even with a very busy day and great location. Hopefully will be back tomorrow to taste their scampi.

Epic fish n chips. We had to see what the "award winning" fish n chips was about. The curry sauce was awesomesauce 👊🏻 and an amazing pint. The bathroom had absolutely no toilet roll and noticed it hadn't been checked since 11am it was around 4pm the next check on the chart was 5pm so might need to more often. We had really friendly service. Not a fan of mandatory gratuity snuck onto bill though.

Enjoyed cheesy chips for take away. Although the restaurant was busy the service was fast. However, staff at the till could be a little friendlier. The food was delicious and I will most likely be back to dine in next time.

Visited here for an evening meal and the food was lovely, fresh, refillable chips just brilliant. If I could have put more stars for the service i would have but Tina was just amazing really made the experience! Such a superstar and really should be made aware of how amazing she is. Well done!!

Absolutely disgusting! Chips tasted like that had bin there for hours or they were recooked,! Sausages were cold. Over priced & tasted awful. Certainly would not recommend this place for takeaway or to dine in!!

Good food. Quick service. We had small plate of fish and chips + chicken nuggets and chips. Both were very good. I preferred chicken nuggets and chips personally. Sadly Draft beer was finished by the time we reached. Overall 5 star rating.

Whilst I’m a huge fan of the chip shed Warwick, this was a disappointment. Maybe we came at the wrong time, 3.30, but black chips do not appeal to me. They had no curry sauce which is a must for my chips, and maybe would have made the chips better.

Scampi was tiny, undercooked and soggy! Bland catering style sausage, thin cod that was also very greasy/soggy/undercooked, sauces were ok as were the cheesy chips maybe I came on a bad day but I wouldn't return... Disappointed to say the least

Staff is very kind. The server saw I could not pick my dip, so he brought some of each to taste. Also fries are delicious, golden and crisp exterior, and soft tender potato interior. They also refilled my fries free of charge. :)

It was the best fish and chips I've had in the UK. The salad was delicious and the staff were friendly.

Eventually delicious food. Service very poor. The restaurant was very busy. My hubby and I walked in, no queue to be seated, and we were ignored. No “welcome”, no “we’ll seat you asap”. Eventually I asked and we were seated shortly after. Not a great start. Our food arrived and I had to ask that my fish be changed as it was under cooked and the batter was “soggy”. The waiter didn’t hesitate and said he would arrange for a new fish. To his credit, the whole meal was replaced, however my hubby had finished his food before my replacement arrived. The waiters never asked if we were happy with the food. No one told us the chips were bottomless! I appreciate the restaurant was busy but the service needs improving and customers need to feel valued.

I'm having to change my review as they have recently lowered their standards in terms of food quality but not the price. This used to be one of the best chip shops in the area but sadly not anymore. I've just had low quality plaice and chips today for the first time: the chips were dry and the fish was about 90% batter. I won't be coming back.

Smells nice, but service was absolutely terrible, too lazy to wipe tables when we have been waiting for over 30 minutes and the waitor said he is too busy making drinks. Cutlery arrived dirty. Another table’s food arrived earlier than ours but they sat down 20 minutes later than ours, also refused to give sharing plates. Probably due to our skin colour. Absolutely recommend avoiding.

How about rip off unsuspecting tourists. If you think it’s a chip shop, you’d be mistaken. I could literally hold the chips in my hand for £4. Avoid!! there’s a green king across the road.

Expensive kids sizes starting at £8 per portion. March 2024. Too much for what you get. I wouldn't bother going there to eat. I think there rent is £50k pa. That's why they are charging silly prices for locals.

Fantastic fish and chips! The Chip Shed in Burton-on-the-Water is a hidden gem. Fresh, perfectly cooked fish and crispy chips - delicious! The friendly service and charming atmosphere make it a great spot for a casual lunch or takeaway. Highly recommend!

Excellent plaice for lunch (but no flat fish on the menu ;-). Good fish and chips nicely served and presented if you eat in. Nice booth style tables inside. Friendly efficient service. Small set meals are good value and salad and asparagus in batter was enjoyed for a lighter bite. Nice touch to offer free refills of chips too.

This was the first time we tried fish and chips from here we had it new years eve and it was really nice we had it as take out so went in and ordered it we only waited about 10 minutes the staff were very polite and welcoming the food is cooked in beef dripping and there is also vegetarian/vegan options as well which is cooked in a different oil highly recommend will be going there again, we've had the chip shed lots of times since last year now can't fault it

Very good classic fish & chip restaurant! Fish is very large and even better, you can order as many fries as you want at no cost! So there's little waste and you'll be full! Also delicious. If you want something different, there are alternatives too, e.g. pies, sausages etc. But it's about fish & chips!

Extra £10 for sitting inside and not having a takeaway then added nearly a £3 service charge so for fish and chips sausage and chips and two drinks almost £40 food was greasy . And yes I know it’s cooked it oil but plate was covered in it. No flavour to the mushy peas Think the additional service charge should be mentioned wouldn’t eat in there again

If you’ve been brought up on chips, you know a good chip. These were not good chips. Good service but taste and texture of the food left a lot to be desired, wouldn’t return sadly. Smaller portions of higher quality food would have been much better value for money.

Very good quality fish and service

I was the only customer in the shop - the food was ‘ready’ in less than 2 minutes, meaning it had sat there for however long. The chips weren’t good, the fish was dry and all of it was somewhat stale compared to freshly cooked fish and chips. Not great. Didn’t get the curry sauce I paid for either. Bourton-on-the-water needs to get much better staff all round, the kids working in the restaurants and take aways don’t enhance any element of the visit.

Easily the best chip shop from anywhere in the UK. The fact that they're already award winners is unsurprising. The food was exceptional. Not top greasy at all. Fish was very fresh and home made fish cake was lovely. Only negative was that we found the typing lady who served us our food on the takeaway to be a little abrupt to the point of coming across rude. Everything and everyone else was 5 stars all the way. Would not hesitate in recommending.

Good, old fashioned fish and chips. Batter was good, fish was too and service friendly. At first sight I thought there were very few chips but you get more for free, if you want.
