Always great fish and chips, and great service! Food is so so good, chips are perfect, fish is tasty and curry sauce is so good!

Family run restaurant serving the best Fish n Chips I’ve had. Light crispy battered flaky cod and chips. Best I’ve ever had. My spouse had the savory pie and enjoyed it as well. Staff is attentive and friendly. They make you feel appreciated which is lacking in much of today’s service industry. Great experience and value all around.

I ordered 2 standard chips and 1 vegetarian, all three were cooked in beef dripping. This was obvious by the look and smell. However they were inedible all 3 portions! They weren’t chips they were more crisps! They were rock hard and either reheated or just way overcooked. I’m aware some potatoes can cook darker due to sugar content but this wasn’t the reason here. They were just appalling inedible chips. Maybe I should’ve listened to the review Gary eats put on YouTube! Update on 12/3 I received an email from Dan asking if the order was click and collect or at the counter, and what was ordered and the time. Following this I received another email asking which location! Seeing how I reviewed the Bourton branch this should’ve been obvious! I replied confirming Bourton as we had been to birdland. No replies since so I’m not really sure how Dan is putting things right!

We were disappointed to be turned away at 15:40 today. We had hoped to dine in the restaurant but were told that there was not enough staff on duty, some were on their break and we were told to return at 5 pm

Best cod I’ve ever had from a chippie, nice crispy chips too. Not greasy at all. The vegetarian pie and chips got top marks from the wife too. Great portion size too so good value for money. We had takeaway from Bourton On The Water, staff were very polite friendly and helpful. Will be back.

Very delicious fish and chips, the cod was not fishy at all and the chips were crispy. A waitress was friendly and since I couldn't figure out the difference between the two dipping sauces, she brought me both and asked each customer if they were happy with their food.

On holiday in Bourton and fish and chips is a treat on all holidays. We ordered using the app and went to collect. It was a large order of nine meals. The good. The curry sauce one of the best I have had and would be worth getting on its own. The batter was light and crispy and not too oily. The fish cake was also good too. Sadly that is where the good ended. The fish. We had a haddock and cod. Both were very dry and tasted frozen. The haddock was grey and didn’t taste that great. The scampi portion was very small and was very over priced. The chip portions were very expensive. £5.50 for a large chips which wasn’t that large. The chips themselves were poor quality, with many ends which lacked potato, I understand that with one portion but all 9 had similar issues and left you crunching through chip ends. The mushy peas were watery and thin, and most of left them. It was disappointing after paying so much money. The place is wonderful and light inside, the packaging is quality, but I would rather pay a few pounds less and have them wrapped in paper.

Brilliant fish and chips and chicken bites. The batter was good, very crispy coating with good quality fish. 100% would recommend But it is expensive

Our local chippy, so we've tried a few times, but sadly, plenty of tasteless chips and lots of batter, but not a lot of fish. Curry sauce is nice tho. Over priced. Won't bother again.

Probably the tastiest fish and chips I’ve ever eaten! The curry sauce was delicious and the portion size was fantastic for me (I went for the small cod and chips). We dined in on a sunny Saturday and even though it was busy, we were seated pretty quickly as a table of 5! Fab that they have Hawkstone available too. Only minus a star as we had a wheelchair user with us who found it a little tricky to fit and sit down with the tight tables in the back of the restaurant. Great that they have ramp access around the side to get in!

First tried around a year ago, chips & pies were really good. Tried on & off 3 more times since then, all really poor - pies overdone & dry, dry chips, we threw most away so complete waste of time & money. We gave them repeated chances as they’re local. Won’t be back again.

Had a chicken pie meal, ended up coming to £12.60!! Just a chicken pie, chips and a pot of gravy. The chips were nice, but unfortunately the pie wasn’t worth the money. It was hard to cut into, the bottom of it was hard and stale, and it really didn’t taste like chicken. I went in to ask if it was definitely chicken and they said yes, so wouldn’t recommend that. Service was nice other than that

we were almost put off by the reviews on here, it definitely seems like a mixed bag. We had an eat in meal (which could mean we had a different experience to those who take away) and our food was lovely. We had a normal fish and chips with curry sauce and a small fish and chips with mushy peas. Fish was delicious, very light crispy batter, chips were ‘ok’ not chewy or over done like over reviews mention here - maybe even slightly under done, but still nice. Curry sauce was very good, lots of flavour. Overall a nice meal!

Had chips to take away at lunch time yesterday, they were hard and dry with no flavour. Very disappointing and a waste of nearly £20 - most of them went in the bin.

Went in to get fish and chips for my birthday lunch with my family. Told they weren't seating anyone due to 'Staff Illness' however there were still plenty of staff members and the place was full of empty tables. Massive queue for the takeaway food, which was seemingly using up their reduced amount of staff, however the queue was only that long due to their insistence on not seating anyone. Many servers were dithering around. If this was a better managed establishment then they would be able to take seats, rather than halving their daily revenue. We were met with beligerence and indifference. I am very disappointed as I have been a customer previously and thoroughly enjoyed the food, however I will not be returning after this affair.

We ate here on a day trip to Bourton on the Water having eaten regularly in another Chip Shed in Stratford upon Avon. They didn't mention the refillable chips at this one, but confirmed they were refillable when we asked. I had haddock chips and mushy peas. Partner had chicken bites chips and curry sauce. He thinks the chip shed curry sauce is the best he has tried. Chicken bites perhaps a tad overdone and dry. My fish perfectly cooked and nothing greasy.

Touch on the outside and inside. Nice taste Crispy and soft fish and chips Is it tartar sauce? They give it to you for free. Just ask for it. Salad is also delicious

We’ve been visiting England and the Cotswolds from the southern United States for over a week so fish n chips has become a quintessential favorite! This place was probably our favorite stop yet for this classic dish. I chose haddock, chips, and curry sauce and could not have been more pleased with this simple but fantastic meal and atmosphere of this sweet place in a wonderful town.

We sat in and had the cod and chips with gravy and curry sauce. The food was cooked fresh. You get a small portion of chips in a metal basket and can ask for as many refills of chips as you like. We had 2, which was plenty. The fish was gorgeous and flakey, and the batter was really crispy and not greasy at all. The gravy was lost though next to the curry sauce, which was the best I've had. Overall, it was the best fish and chips we've had to date and well worth a visit.

Stood inside for 20 mins wait to be seated, and they seated 2 people instead of us when we were there before them and they clearly saw this! And then when it come to us they said you gunna have to wait another 20 mins. Really? Wouldn’t of had to wait if you served us in the first place!

Oh dear,this place is my local chippy and used to be so good.Keep trying in the hope it had improved . The chips taste like they have sat a while and the fish is not the best with scraggy bits at the end. Tried again this week my daughter had the scampi as a takeaway when we got home it was to find that the 6 pieces of Scampi were no bigger than pieces of pop corn battered it was a total disgrace and we felt totally ripped off. We will not be back,doubt they care much about repeat customers but in the quieter months it is us locals who would use them

We had the best beef burgers, calamari and cod in a long time at this restaurant. Lidia and Sergiu, two of the employees there, took very good care of the four of us. They explained the menu, had great suggestions, and they were friendly and welcoming. We’ll definitely be back as those double beef burgers were to die for!

I’ve never left a google review before, however my shocking experience here made me want to warn others off. I now see why the reviews are so terrible for here. During my time in the Cotswolds, we popped in here for a quick dinner. We were greeted in a deathly quiet restaurant, where despite only the one customer, we still had to wait for a while to be seated. After placing our orders, my partner was given a flat pepsi max with no ice lemon etc in a dirty pint glass, which was a great start. After receiving our food, we both could not believe how awful the chips were- shrivelled, dried up, and chewy like the ones left in the bottom of a frozen packet. On top of this, I had halloumi as my main, which had gone off and had a disgusting aroma as it was brought to our table- after smelling this, it was very clear the cheese had gone off and it made me feel quite sick. After the meal, where I left all my food, we had to wait 10 minutes before I found a waitress to be able to ask for the bill. I politely mentioned that I think the cheese had expired, as it did not smell or taste right at all. I then had an arrogant and cocky waiter stroll over with the bag of frozen cheese and say " look its in date", to which I mentioned that if something had been opened a while ago or left out, this would explain why it was off as I am 1000% certain. To that I received no reply from him or the waitress. I then paid £38 for this delightful meal- absolutely shocking food and service, we then had to go and get a pizza from down the road which was much much nicer. STAY AWAY FROM HERE- THE FOOD HAS EXPIRED AND CHIPS ARE DISGUSTING

We often visit the Chip Shop at Bourton on the water to sit in and take away, and have always been bery impressed. However, Yesterday we ordered battered sausage and chips for 4 of us to take away. The chips were very disappointing, hard, dry and hurt my teeth when chewing. This was not their usual standard. If we were local I would have gone back for a refund. There's no contact details to feedback directly.

Absolutely fantastic sausage and chips was had great smiles from all the staff :-) If I have to be honest, a little bit pricey but the food quality was fantastic no complaints here :-)

Hey we had horrible experience on this outlet I will never ever visit this place again. Me and My Family visited to try some Fish and chips as it was raining outside and chilled out side. First of all Staffs were rude no greetings,No Hospitality not even a smile on face to the customer however keeping that part a side we spent £50 for the meal to try and give a shot after taking this chips were cold and stale,No taste, fish was not cooked properly after having a bite of it we just binned all the food and went to small cafe and had some pastries and coffee. Please look in to your Business and Hospitality.

Great portion size, fish was delicious and batter perfectly light and crisp. We also had the tempura battered asparagus, which was the perfect shade of green despite being cooked! Will absolutely come again

I visited here today after placing an order to collect. As I got to the entrance a chef that works there came storming out and shut the door in my face. Then I went in and he came back in within minutes and went back behind the chips etc. I was then the only person waiting at the desk and I could see my food waiting on the side in a bag. The lady serving completely ignored me and carried on with something else and then around 5 minutes after served me. When we drove to our Airbnb (2mins away) the food was cold and all chucked in together to 2 trays. Considering we spent over £20 I thought we deserved more than everything crammed together. I ordered separate dishes that were thrown in together. The food being cold ruined it for us and even though I chose a specific time to collect it clearly had been sat there awhile. No workers seemed welcoming they all stared in the chip shop. Would not return or recommend.

Rrived at Burton and looked for somewhere to eat saw the chip shed expecting take away only.was surprised when there was seating and the welcome and quick service meant food was hot and served promptly god quality and the endless chips are a good idea

My favorite Fish and Chips that I’ve had. Got hooked up with a really nicely sized piece, crispy and nicely salted and a great portion of chips with a Curry sauce and a Tartar Sauce. Took these out to eat on the riverside and would recommend it if it’s packed in there.

What an amazing place this is. The food was delicious and the service amazing. The staff couldn't do enough for us, we were served by a wonderful man that was so accommodating. The quality of the fish was so fresh, not greasy just perfect. The curry sauce packed a punch and was equally as delightful. I cannot wait to return. Thank you to you all.

We've eaten here several times and the food, service and staff were fabulous. However, this visit was very disappointing. We wanted to sit in and eat, but it was very chaotic. There were people sitting in the front area and by the window, eating out of take away boxes. There was no organization. When I asked if we could sit, I was told there was a 45-60 min wait. We ordered a take away, and a table then became free at the back. However the lady was so unhelpful, I just wanted to leave. The young guy serving was lovely - polite, and helpful. Overall a very disappointing visit. It has put me off going back any time soon.

We had the cod and chips and the scampi with tartar sauce. We visited 2 years ago and it was excellent. The Chips were inedible and we noticed that most people had left their chips untouched. The fish was just ok but oily and such a small piece of actual fish for £17. Tartar sauce was nice.

A perfect dish and excellent attention from the staff made our lunch a unique moment! The staff was very friendly explaining the menu that we couldn't understand (hello, foreigners here). The traditional fish and chips were delicious, it wasn't oily or anything like that. I highly recommend pairing it with mushy peas, which are an excellent accompaniment to fish. The price seemed good to me, although later exploring the area we saw it a little cheaper.

Not impressed. Popped to Bourton from Banbury on our way home to Birmingham to see the lights and xmas tree and had some chips from here. They were disgusting! Chips were chewy, dark brown and had no potato in the middle. If I didn't have work at 5am I would've turned around and got my money back. Don't recommend.

We visited early today and had a take away lunch. The pluses..... My steak pie was very good and so too was the cod purchased. However the mushy peas were awful, bland in fact, maybe some butter/pepper could be added? The chips were also bland and for £30 paid, the food not worth it unfortunately. I'm genuinely guessing that this chip shop relies purely on the tourist. Im sorry to leave poor reviews and I wish your business well but this was not a good visit. Visited 6th December 2024

After trying to escape the Winds of Darragh on the 7th November in the Cotswolds, me and my partner thought we would pop in to the The Chip Shed for a bite to eat and dry off - However after ordering a regular portion of chips and curry sauce, the chips were served in 2 small chip baskets - They were lovely however couldn't get my head around the pricing - I was charged £9.30! When leaving i noticed i could of ordered a regular chips, sausage and side for £8.30 i believe. Very disappointed with the pricing and felt ripped off.

I can't think of a better fish and chip shop that I have eaten in the UK. Our trip to Burton on the water was planned around having dinner here, and it did not disappoint. Every meal we had was cleaned away and the waitress asked if we wanted extra chips at no extra cost. I will definitely be returning.

I was looking forward to this meal but. The fish was so flat my wife said is that a scollops, the chips was awful and the steak pie was dry and greasy.

Visited The Chip Shed during my trip to the Cotswolds. The fish was excellent—crispy batter and fresh, just as you’d hope for. The battered sausage was tasty too, though I couldn’t finish it. However, the chips didn’t sit well with me and left me feeling quite nauseous after the meal. The place itself was decent, with a casual and welcoming vibe, but the overall experience was dampened by how I felt afterwards. Perhaps it was just an off day for the chips, but I’d approach with caution.

One of the IF NOT* The best fish and chips shop around! Service was great! Jim was able to accommodate a party of 15 people visiting the local town. A family friend was celebrating her birthday and Jim and the team did really well to manage us. We had a great time and we enjoyed the food! PLUS THEY HAVE UNLIMITED CHIPS! 😍 WOULD COME BACK AGAIN to Bourton on the water solely for this place! Thank you Jim and the team who served us on 12/11/24 3pm ish time. ❤️

Wouldn’t visit again, dead atmosphere, cost a fortune for not great food. Fish was tasteless and most chips were just batter and hard. Added their own gratuity of £3.99 and the service was rubbish! Would rather find a smaller local chip shop next time because this was awful.

Just ordered a takeaway fish and chips for seven. Order on line , then collected order it was ready on time. Pleant of chips , did not need to order so many, one chips was good for two people. Fish well cooked and very nice

Delicious fresh fish’n’chips! A regular of ours for a week night treat. You can’t beat the Chip Shed. The fish is cooked so well and so fresh. Delicious chips…..the staff are happy to top up if you need more. Great service and all round what you would expect from a great little village chippy!

Mediocre fish and chips, Avoid the scampi and the chicken pie. The scampi was greasy and the pie was dry. They need to raise their game.

Great food - especially the mushy peas. Veggy meals cooked in groundnut oil and rest cooked in beef dripping. Only things I’d change is then to cook asparagus in veggy oil and to batter the halloumi. Ask to sit in back unless you want to people watch at the front. Very brightly lit - could turn it down a bit in evening?

Easily the best chip shop from anywhere in the UK. The fact that they're already award winners is unsurprising. The food was exceptional. Not too greasy at all. Fish was very fresh and home made fish cake was lovely. Only negative was that we found the lady who served us our food on the takeaway to be a little abrupt to the point of coming across rude. Everything and everyone else was 5 stars all the way. Would not hesitate in recommending.

I can see that your business receives mixed reviews regarding quality of your products and service. I would also like to point out that reviews received from your paying customers should be seen as an opportunity to improve or why would people want to spend their hard earned money within your establishment when they can go elsewhere? Also, it is not the customers responsibility to bring to the attention of the owner directly how they should have certain standards within their business, that is the job of the owner. I would suggest you seek business advice if maintaining standards is an issue for you rather than calling out paying disappointed customers. Good day

A lot of mixed reviews for this place! We paid £67 (including service) for 2 kids scampi, an Adult Scampi at £17.70 and 2 Adults shared a Cod for £16.50. (3 Teas were £8.70). This seems a lot of money but the food was fine and the place was light and clean. Perhaps any other meal in 'expensive' Bourton on the Water would be the same cost? Our fish was fine - a reasonable portion but not 'generous'. Nice batter. Not a lot of chips and yes they seemed dry -but we ate them all... Maybe decide where to eat before visiting?

After reading mixed reviews wasn't sure what to expect. Unfortunately the cod was overcooked/dried out. It should flake but it was hard and stuck to the batter and the beef dripping chips were ok but again overcooked or perhaps not fresh. Some of the group were vegetarians and these chips were so much nicer, I assume as they were freshly cooked. Overall disappointing and wouldn't bother going back.

Not quite an authentic experience of a traditional chippy. Tiny portion of tough & hard (refried?) chips in a wire basket, with smallish cod. The flavour of chips was good - (Thumbs Up for the beef dripping!) but texture was beyond disappointing, I nearly sent them back. Cod batter & fish itself was very good though. All in all, the price did not match the quality of the food, and wished we'd gone elsewhere really for the money.

Good food, good restaurant, isn't and doesn't need to be anything particularly special, the fish and chips is good, and surprisingly as well is the chicken burger though they do not specialize in those. The pricing is high though it is a touristy area so it makes sense. The amount of food given is nice, with the fish being quite big, though they could have added a bit more chips, nothing to worry about though, would go again if there.

When a business positions itself as a premium fish and chip shop - one vital feature that is a non-negotiable is the fish and chips. If you go expecting hearty portions of fish and chippy chips - then you may be disappointed. Or meat pies oozing with gravy whe you cut through the puffy or crispy pie crust - then you again, will be disappointed. Instead you get chips served in a small basket. And high meat content pies that are quite dry, with other flavours in the meat other than those you'd expect from a chippy. However if you're after a no-frills dining experience where the menu is inspired by a chippy, this may be the place for you. But be prepared to compromise on what you may be expecting, when in any other chippy you'd typically br served from behind the classic stainless steel counter, by a team in well-worn tabards! Chip Shed? Perhaps Chip Emporium may be better suited to the clientele they're trying to target.

CHIPS ARE NOT VEGETARIAN - please change the small disclaimer right at the bottom of your board which is not obvious (notably if just coming in to order a quick portion of chips) - you should note in LARGE BOLD TEXT that your food IS NOT VEGETARIAN friendly. Very disappointed but your staff were super helpful and refunded our order. I Don't believe in one star reviews due to negative impacts etc so please just take into account this simple request to save people having the issue we did!

Disappointing overpriced and expected much better. Most London fish and chip shops are far better. Seriously you don’t serve chips in a basket at a genuine fish and chip shop, just put a scoop on the side. Fish was small and scampi uninspiring. £38 for this does not justify the price. Sorry guys I’m sure you work hard but listen to the feed back. BTW cash only in this day and age!

We went with our family including 3 children 11 and under. The kids meals were generous and everyone was very happy with the bottomless fries! We had the scampi and fish burger which both came with a soft white roll and were nice. The best part of our experience was our super friendly waitress who made us feel very welcome. The restaurant was clean and the food was quick, which was great for the kids. We would definitely visit again and recommend for families.

Interesting fish and chip shop with many kinds of fish to choose from. Sold separately with the fries. When ordering, you can ask for salt and vinegar, which will be put on the order. As for the tartare sauce, you have to order it separately for 60 cents. It comes in a beautiful box, looks delicious. Half a big fish with a thick batter, gradually crispy. The fish is very fresh, but the fries are not very crispy, they are in big pieces. The tartare sauce does not taste very good, it tastes more like eating cream.

Went to this place yesterday 12th October the Cod was really small portion I had around 12 chips in a stupid wire basket £16.50 for it the curry sauce was amazing, shame about the rest, a bloody rip off

One of the best outside of the coast!

Took friends visiting from Australia into the chip shed for a quick lunch. Food came quickly and it was tasty.... But BEWARE.... it's cash only!!! In this day and age not ideal (they did say we could go down the road to the cash point! - REALLY????). Then they had the cheek to slap on nearly £7 of service charge!... It came to over £80 for four people and four drinks... Glad we were sat down when we were presented with the bill!
