Sadly we've been "priced out" now, There are other local pubs selling food of similar high quality but at more reasonable prices. Staff here have always been friendly and helpful and the dining area's are clean tidy and modern, But I have to agree with the comments on the toilets, they are very run down and in desperate need of modernising, if you are going to charge restaurant prices, you have to provide commensurate facilities.

The pub was virtually empty except for a few couples. It was a Sunday afternoon about 3.00ish. I asked if they were still serving food and was told by two young lads behind the bar that they don't serve walk-ins. It is hard to believe when most businesses in this day and age will bend over backwards to get a customers business. I certainly won't be going there again.

What a disappointment. We ordered fish & chips which was the special ‘Fish Friday’ menu.We were told there was no mushy peas and there was a 40min wait. We accepted this rather than go elsewhere. What a disappointment when the food arrived. It looked NOTHING like the advertised photographs. The fish was 1/3 of the size and over cooked and so were the chips. Mushy peas were replaced with garden peas. It will be sometime before we consider visiting again if at all. No a good impression of the new owners.

We heard the Chevin has changed owners so we thought we would try it again. On arrival we had a lovely welcome from the staff member (didn’t catch her name but she was wearing a pink shirt). We were served straight away and we weren’t planning to eat but seeing the food coming out the kitchen, we decided to try it. They had an amazing offer on their light bites menu, 3 for £18 or 5 for £25. Being greedy we went for the 5 for £25, and wow! The plate sizes were a good portion and were scrumptious. We sat outside in the beer garden and the views were stunning. Only thing I would point out is so tables are uneven so was very nervous my pint would fall over. Other than that, it was a great visit and will be going back to try the full menu.

Called in here as it looked a lovely pub after our walk around chevin. Very busy on a Thursday so we appreciated we might have to wait a while to get served. After finding no where to sit we took a seat at the bar where both the landlady and another barman didn’t even acknowledge we were sat there. We knew it was busy so thought we’d wait a bit longer but after being sat there 20 minutes without even a “sorry I’ll be with you in a sec” is just plain rude and my experience not how you run a pub. Very dissapointing experience and won’t be returning due to this.

Visited last night for dinner. We arrived and had to wait awkwardly at the bar as no one was serving. I ended up having to ring the phone to get someone’s attention… The pub itself is nice inside albeit it was a bit cold. We only had mains but they were big portions, tasty and all seemed fresh. Burgers were good. Sausage and mash was nice and the steak & Guinness pie was really nice too. Service was good and friendly throughout.

Unfortunately, I think The Chevin has only been open for a few weeks, and the heating was not at its best. The room was very draughty and rather chilly for sitting about. The food was good, although my wifes' chicken dish had not been cooked through, but there was no problem rectifying the problem, The prices for our food was a little higher than expected, but in general, we had no complaints, as we realise that prices are on the increase. The staff were very pleasant, helpful, and chatty. I will go again, as I feel that the Chevin can only get better.

We have visited for good food on several occasions and were always warmly welcomed. The menu prices were understandably in line with the cost of living but we think its important to support businesses and keep them running for local communities. Breweries need their support too in running thriving, traditional pubs and maintaining the heritage pastime of going to the local.

Went for lunch on a dreary Sunday afternoon. One of us had Sunday lunch which was it's usual excellent quality. One had the liver....it was a tough choice between that and about 4 other dishes on the menu, including game pie. I had made the right choice and was served with delightful (if a little too much) mash, veg and onion gravy. Quite how we had room for desert is a mystery but we both had the rhubarb and strawberry Eton mess....plentiful and lovely and sweet. The waitress/bar maid Yasmin was attentive, polite and not over bearing at all. Only the weather could have improved our visit today. Will definitely be back

Visited today and have a good meal but was disappointed by the price (£20 for a Cesar salad) and by the behaviour of some of the senior members of staff. Had a lovely waitress who was doing a great job whilst being trained but the chef persistently undermined her, openly criticising her in front of us. The owner- I believe- then came and had a rather loud conversation with the chef whilst the poor waitress was going to listen to our orders- she was then chastised for not writing every little detail down! Unfortunately due to this I wouldn’t go back as it made the table feel quite awkward!

We've been here for Sunday lunch a few times and enjoyed it (nothing special, but ok for a quick bite to eat). However, when we visited earlier this week I was stunned by the prices and lack of value. I ordered a steak and ale pie to be told I had to buy sides seperate. £16 for an average (at best) sized steak pie, £5 for frozen mash and £5 for a side of veg. The pie was nice, but nothing special. £26 was massively overpriced and the sides were just basic frozen/microwaved. Although it did give us a giggle that steak pie, frozen mash and frozen veg was the same price as a chateaubriand and sides in a nice restaurant in town! 🙈 Side note, if you need the toilet, wait until you get home. The women's toilets were gross, doors don't lock, cobwebs everywhere and looked like the last time it was decorated/cleaned was about 20 years ago. Wouldn't recommend and defo won't return for food, although it's a nice venue to sit outside for a drink. The views are amazing.

We ordered drinks and waited an hour for someone to come and take our order and then I had to go to the bar abd ask, a few other people had entered by then. We ordered our meals, when they came we were somewhat surprised at the price for the small portions, even though I said we had a young child with us they didnt really cater for children at all, so we had 1 round of drinks, 1 childs meal 2 small adult meals and 2 ordinary Adult meals ONLY no starters or desserts, I had Med Chicken, but had to pay £5 extra for vegetables ! We had gone there as after a walk round the Chevin couldn't get a table at they were so busy. Not surprising when they charge £13.50 for a huge burger with homemade fries. Even the Hilton in Leeds is cheaper. Definitely won't be back to eat. Though would pop in for just a drink. Food is lovely since the reopening. Kids meals a little expensive.

The food was great, particularly the starters. The staff were friendly and efficient, the ambiance was good and the views across the hills were special. Contrary to some reviews we have read, we thought the prices were not unreasonable for the quality of the food....

Shame we did not read the reviews before booking ‘big mistake’, on their webpage it says “the prices are ‘competitive”, not sure who or what they have compared them with. We ordered the roast beef, on the menu there were small numbers next to each...

The staff are great and were very gracious at our shocked gawping at the overpriced nature of the menu... Unfortunately £22 for a Sunday lunch main on its own is out of control. The quality was good but I'm talking pre-covid a £14 plate of food. Maybe with the way things are we wouldn't have scoffed at ≈£18, but asking £22 for fish and chips, pie, or a Sunday roast is too far for what it is. Will struggle to return for food in future.
