One of the best roast dinners I’ve eaten out, totally faultless, perfect amount, proper meat, Yorkshire pudding to die for, staff were so friendly and the real ale was so spot on which is hard in the summer. A big plus was the vegetables were cooked properly no al dente raw veg here. Get down there and enjoy

Superb Sunday Lunch on Mother’s Day. Beef option succulent and vegetarian mushroom wellington simply delicious. Veggies, roasts and Yorkshire puds all homemade and a lovely accompaniment. Puddings also tasted but just couldn’t finish them. Too full. Made to feel very welcome and homely by all staff. Thank you to everyone who served us. Highly recommended.

This place has recently changed hands, the new menu is constantly changing, which is great, but disappointing when something disappears before I've tried it! Generous portions and fantastic flavours, everything made in house; the confit duck with mash, bacon, beans and kale is amazing, the fish and chips on a par with the best I've had. Great selection of drinks and real ales too.

Large, clean well set out dinning area with a small bar to one side. Friendly reception with a table set out ready for us. Pre meal drinks were served quickly and menus provided. The service was quick and polite. There were three in our party and each ordered a different meal. The starters and main courses were very good and the server checked with us to see that all was well. A good pub' which has a nice atmosphere, good food, easy parking and very good value. Ate here as a family of 4 before Christmas as a treat. We were not disappointed. The food is delicious , the chicken pies are very tasty, with lots of chicken content.Equally the chicken burger was lovely. . We all made room for desserts which were equally yummy! The syrup sponge is a huge portion. We left full and very pleased with what we had. Would definitely re visit and recommend to anyone looking for a traditional pub with good pub food!

I live local so have been many times over the years. The dining area and the bar are separated, which is a plus. The food is quite average, not outstanding nor bad, and the menu is quite large with lots of options and sides. Puddings are yummy as they should. The service isn't great, and it does leave you waiting. The pub has a nice vibe going on and is nicely furnished. The Garden is lovely and has a lot of space to be spread out from other people. The overall price of the food and drink is okay, and not overly priced.

Visited 'The Chestnut Tree' for the first time today for Sunday Lunch on the recommendation of friend. The roast dinners were delicious (as were our Desserts), and all at very reasonable prices. Three 'Real Ales' and a Cider were available on hand-pump. Service was friendly and efficient. Also, a variety of different coffee styles were available, which is something rarely seen in Pubs. All in all an excellent experience, we will certainly visit again!

So went up on Sunday the 6th October 2019 after being a regular local for some 6-8 years spending in excess of £100-£150.00 per week in the pub. Tried to engage in general conversation with the bar maid on duty at the time. Nothing out of ordinary nothing controversial. Bar Maid more content in cleaning cutlery than engaging with only customer in the pub at the time (me) and decided to call the land lady down. After personal insults from the land lady about my conduct over the past few months which were completely unfounded and with out prove she decided to ban me until until her her tenancy expires which may be 2+ years. It is with great regrets than I post such a poor review. However to be banned from a establishment because the landlady has personal issues which are without foundation I find not only insulting but also a mar on the establishment it,s self. I welcome any feed back from the land lord to whom I have the greatest respect.

We do not live locally, but our daughter does. Whilst on baby-sitting duties, we look for somewhere to eat and this pub has proved as good as any. It is not exactly "fine dining", but it is good food at reasonable prices and cheerfully served. In most respects, it is a very ordinary village pub but is well worth a visit if you want a good honest lunch (and, probably, dinner) at a good honest price.

What a great Roast dinner the Chestnut serve. Everything was just right. No pinky Beef, roast potatoes crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside. Good variety of vegetables, and well cooked, no crunchy veg here. Yorkshire pudding was very nice and the gravy perfect. All this served with a smile, which is a rarity at times. Certainly good value for money. If ever an overpriced restaurant owner wanted to know how to cook and serve the perfect Sunday lunch , they should book a table and head over to the Chestnut. Now we have found it we certainly wont forget it. A great experience.

If food is your target, have no concerns that the chef will produce a meal that you will remember for its quality and sensible pricing. We haven't been disappointed once and have always been impressed with the value for money and the quality of the food. For instance, £9.50 gets you a superb Sunday lunch with all the trimmings. Our walking group of 21 had pre-ordered at 9.45 and we were served very efficiently on our return from a lovely walk at 12.30. There was an excellent choice from the menu ranging from soup, baguettes, etc. to a variety of cooked meals, also available in smaller portion sizes if required. I had salmon fillet with new potatoes and vegetables, with pea puree and hollandaise sauce, followed by a good cup of coffee. The meal was very tasty and well presented. The sausage and mash dish looked good, as did the ham, eggs and chips. We were seated in the dining room of the pub. This pub restaurant is off the tourist track and , as such, is much quieter and peaceful than a lot of locations. The food was excellent quality and quantity. The beer was well kept and tasty,. There was a very good choice of ciders on a separate menu displayed on the bar. There are both public and saloon bars which accommodate different styles of customers. The staff were friendly and polite. When i was in the restarant there were several customers waiting for food which caused the staff to struggle with the demand and my sirloin steak dish took about fifteen minutes to arrive. but this was acceptable to my friends and myself.
