Went today for Sunday lunch and it was great, very tasty good value for money staff friendly it was that good we have booked to go again 100% .

Traditional pub, has two bars and very popular essential to visit at it is the first pub on the Craven Street run.

Can't comment on the food but smells like your Grandma used to make. Great selection of non alcoholic beer Wych is a blessing for the designated driver. Guest ale is always well thought out (and cheap!) enjoyable "local" pub and always has the footy on.

Great local pub good atmosphere

Nice public house to visit. Amazing selection of beers, wines and spirits, and very pleasant staff too. If you like White Zinfandel wine, the one they have at The Chestnut Tree, called Jack Rabbit, is superb.

Whenever I go here, the pool table is free, that's not to say no one is in there! The sports are on, the tow separate bar areas are decent and apparently they do a banging Sunday roast, I'm yet to try though. Good spot and plent of options on tap. Sean Underwood doesn't go here often so it's 5 stars from me.

Our go to pub in the area. Huge selection of gins and decent whisky too. The beer is good and there's plenty of places to get a quiet spot for the night.

I hummed & arred about popping to this place for Sunday lunch. Thankgoodness I didn't deliberat too much. Food fantastic, carnivores meal... complete. Yum. My friend had a vegetarian meal. Next time I'm asking for both on one plate. Wow. Well done Chestnut kitchen staff for preparing and delevering an excellent, tasty, ' wanna come back again ' Sunday lunch. In fact...all staff were efficient, courteous and obviously enjoying their employment.. Wonderful to see that a local public house knows what the public needs. A home made dinner by staff that care. Carry on and enjoy the rewards.

Beer okay but expensive nearly double Witherspoon prices ! The whole place needs renovating - toilets disgusting

Really disappointed with our visit to the Chestnut Tree this afternoon. We had booked a table for 3 the day prior, aware that a Vegetarian option was available via the pubs Facebook page. On arrival we were told that our table was not ready - ok, pub was busy. We got our drinks in and waited at the bar, and 10 minutes later were told our table was ready. Sat down and decided on food, went to order at the bar only to be told that the Vegetarian option was sold out. This being 2pm, peak time, knowing that food was served until 4pm. The waitress advised that next time we make it known when booking that we would like the Vegetarian dish - well, it would have been nice if you'd said so on your page. One waitress at the bar didn't seem to have much idea what was going on, and so we had to leave as the only thing available for vegetarians was cauliflower cheese only. No refund for drinks offered, all in all, very poor. 2 stars only for a nice pint of Guinness, but zero for service and availability.

We go here for Sunday lunch and food is the best I've tasted but always book in advance as they are very busy on a Sunday

Excellent traditional pub will very friendly staff. Good selection of beers. Features a snug, pool room, darts, and tv room and lounge area...large outdoor area at the rear. Highly recommended.

This is a community pub with decent real ale range. Food on hand. Normally sport on two TV screens.

This place has a very wide selection of gins, so it's a favourite with me. Also some very good ciders.

Have been here many times now and always have a great time. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is always good. My partner enjoys coming here to watch the football, whilst I love the Sunday roasts.

This place is like the title says. Dirty and an owner that’s aggressive and rude and a pain in the backside when drunk! Wouldn’t leave our table alone droaning on about how wonderful he is and then a couple of weeks later when sober returns to type and becomes aggressive as per other customers have mentioned. I had heard about the standard of customer service from other people who refuse to go their now due to the service standards and have now witnessed it myself now! The problem is sadly is they don’t realise how poor their service is and it’s reputation around the city. Beer is overpriced and toilets stink.

First pub visit after lockdown. They have put more seating out back....wooden cubicles with roof to shelter under...table service...freezing at the moment though....roll on summer temperatures!

Delicious homemade Sunday lunch

I found the size of meat very disappointing the rest of the dinner lovely but the portion of meat is that thin I couldnt see the 3 meats I ordered & dinner is all about the meat I had 3 very thin & very small portions of meat disappeared

It's alright but drinks are exspensive avoid coming here when I gotta pay for my mises aswell :)

A party of ladies came here for Sunday lunch. Speaking for myself, I thought it was excellent. I had roast beef(small plate). The plate was very hot as was the meal. It was extremely tasty and plenty of it. The pub has a good atmosphere and the staff very friendly and helpful. I was amazed at the price £6:50. A very popular pub.

A friend of mine recommended this pub to us as a great gin bar with deals on Fridays, on arrival me and my partner were completely overwhelmed by the amount of gin (and other drinks) on offer! The staff behind the bar were both very well trained in gin and couldn’t be more helpful in picking out new ones for me to try! Overall the pub was great value and the service from the staff was great! Only shame is that it is not advertised more. I would also recommend having up to date menus for the gins as I was told the old ones were outdated, there’s so many it’s impossible to see them all!

Came here with my partner and dad. Tried to crack a joke with the bar staff but we were met with silence. Young girl with orange eyeshadow walking round giving dirty looks to everyone. If you’re not happy in your job, find one you are. I’m former bar staff and miserable staff like this will bring you down. We left after one and won’t be back.

really nice have been a few times and the food is so good! best burger I've had from there and fresh, homemade!

We came to the Chestnut tree for a drink. We asked if our dog could come in and were told yes. The manager then came over (after 30 minutes) and aggressively told us to move the dog. As we were collecting our belongings he came over again and shouted at us in front of the other guests. He was aggressive, intimidating and scary as well as extremely rude. We explained we were told by staff dogs were allowed in and he aggressively threatened to sack them. It is such a shame that this pub feel it acceptable to speak to paying customers in such an intimidating and aggressive manner. It really ruined my experience and I would not recommend anyone to visit especially with women or children as it has really upset me.

The beer was good, the cheese and onion roll was huge and the manager put BT on one of the tellys so I could watch Harrogate v Hartlepool despite the fact that everyone else was watching Wolves v Leicester on Sky. It is a really good pub which does real value for money Sunday lunches. My only disappointment was the result of the game. Pools lost.

Do yourself a favor don't bother staff abrupt and as for the food not very good
