The Cheshire Cheese in City of London, Westminster

Traveling for business and short on time, I ended up here simply for the convenient location. Food was good and classically British. I enjoyed the fish and chips as well as the featured lager. No official servers (you order online or at the bar), but Abeshay took good care of me and even laughed at my annoying questions.

Great first stop impression of a London Pub. Had the Fish and Chips with mushy peas and it was amazing! Mark, the manager was super friendly and answered some of our touristy questions. We will go again before leaving the area.

Really but really really amazingly good fish and chips and amazing chicken wings! Made it here through another bars recomendation cuz we were on the look for a good Fish and Chips pub. Happy Surprise!

We are visiting from Sydney Australia and staying at the Hilton nearby. Hoping to find a place to catch up with mates but also seriously watch the champions league game I strolled in yesterday morning when the place was only just getting deliveries. The manager (I presume) was kind, helpful and took the time to scroll through the Huge tv subscriptions to check if the match I was keen on would be aired. It was and I booked a table (again while walking past) for this evening. Deepak the manager chose a great nook with a lovely table and area for our group and our night was spot on (save for the match result). Great/cheerful/professional man, lovely staff, cool pub with great atmosphere-we had a venison pie, a chicken and pancetta pie, 2 of us had fish and chips and the food was great. Solid nice pub food in a lovely environment. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and will very likely be back in the next 2 or 3 days. Thanks to a good team-you’re our short term local until we head home

Nice pub but they really need to update their website. Website advertises that they show the F1 races and allows you to reserve a table, even with comments box pre-populated as “request Grand Prix” for table… arrived to be told the pub actually shuts an hour before the race even starts! Luckily their friendly staff found us an alternative venue to go watch the race.

We had a nice dinner at Cheshire Cheese Pub for our first night in London. We had sausage & mash, fish & chips and hunters chicken. Inches Cider, Mouts Berries/Cherries Cider and London Pride Ale! Great experience, thank you Amy!

Visiting from New York and I stopped here after a tour. Tried a new beer that was recommended to me by the bartender, which was great. The food was tasty. Excellent service with Abhishek. I would definitely come back if I find myself in the area.

Popped in as staying at DoubleTree over the road. Very tasty burger with good beer and very well looked after by the warm and welcoming Abusheikh.

Lovely pub with delicious food great service from kind staff. My partner and I had The Melt beef burger and chips. Good prices when you want good food without having to pay over the top London prices.

Stopped here as looked like an old pub. Staff not as friendly and welcoming. They show sports. Plenty of seating inside and outside. They serve food but we didn't eat here. For old pub seemed quite pricey. Was no atmosphere to make me want to go again. Personal choice place.

Deepak is great service, the fish and chips are the best you've ever had, delicious, melts in your mouth. I was given a beer to try and decide if I liked it. I heartily recommend it, prices suitable for Polish tourists.

Lovely Guinness in this pub. Nice chilled atmosphere too, staff are friendly and very comfortable surrounding. Recommended if in the area!

What a horrible experience, toilet upstairs tap hardly working , hand dryer not working soap dispenser just about hanging on the wall , don't even ask about drinks second and last one they charge you twice for 2 different mixers if one of them is soda , soda splash cost £0.90 , will defo not come again. Some bar people not pleasant at all

Great atmosphere and wonderful servers. The food was pretty good. We had a very large group (17) and were served efficiently. Live performer started about halfway thru our meal which was a nice surprise. Would definitely come here again

I thought this would be an interesting pub underneath the railway arches. On a warm Thursday in London every other pub was heaving, but this one was relatively quiet. Apparently that is because you spend longer waiting to buy your beer than you do drinking it, and even then the monosyllabic service is just dismissive. It’s like buying a beer in a petrol station. Shame, because the location is interesting.

I am editing this review after a more recent visit to the pub for lunch last year with friends. The burgers were excellent and the service was vastly improved since my previous visit. I would now recommend this pub to others.

The darts are no longer free, they cost £5 ( no deposit). Quite disappointing.

Decent enough pub with friendly staff Went in 27/2/25 for a pint of peroni. It went up £1.20 over night. Taking it up to £8.60. Disgraceful and unjustified. Not the pub itself fault. But certainly the brewery/owner's. Plenty of decent pubs in location that are better value.

Wouldnt go out of my way for this, but it was one of the few places in the area with a kitchen that was open after 6pm on Sunday. Appetizer and cocktail specials are nice. Good upstairs space.

We went here because it's not busy and just had a few table used. As the nearest pub were packed and no table were available.We sat in the corner table where it's near to the bar. They have a lot of nice selections on the menu including chicken katsu and chicken tikka curry, steaks and grill, salads and classic pub food. We place our order in the bar and mentioned our table (2) but the Asian man who works there said the only available food were on the traditional pub food after our two mentioned orders were not available according to him. How I wish he told us earlier. So we ordered fish and chips as my last resource event though I had fish and chips the day before which is a Friday but it was fine because their fish and chips were really good. The Asian man who serve us seems unhappy and not even served the food together with the cutlery. He went and took a cutlery holder and came back with a cutlery on it but he just drop it on the table like he drop the food without saying anything. As we finished eating our food, I still had a half pint left on my glass and the other were empty. He came and ask, "Are you finished?" I grab and hold my glass to say that I am not, and he took the other empty glass and walk away. The place says eat, drink and relax but we feel like we are been push away and it's not even busy. Shame the place is nice, the decor is good and the food were great but the service is bad.Service should equal or make it greater than the food and the place. How will you leave a gratuity on the payment machine like that? 3 and half☆

Stopped off here for a quick bite to eat on a Sunday evening. Pub was not too busy. I had a real ale (2 out of 4 taps were running, and the other two looked like they'd have beer on tomorrow. I fancied fish and chips and noticed that they had fish and chips for £13.99 (decent for London) and for only £2 more they did a chip shop platter. This came with the expected fish and chips but also with a battered sausage, two slices of bread (with butter) and some chip shop curry. It was well worth the £2 extra. I'd certainly have the same again here.

A tiny burger with overcooked meat. A meat pie that is nothing more than regular. I won’t judge the child’s Mac’n’Cheese because this is awful any where. The unforgivable: a so-called pub serving beer flatter than a nun’s chest.

Tenía una reserva de dardos para 10 personas reservadas para más de un mes para el viernes 17 de enero. Me cancelaron el día anterior, ya que recibieron una reserva para una fiesta más grande. Cuando les llamé para entender lo que había pasado se pusieron muy a la defensiva y me dijeron que la reserva había sido cancelada por ellos días antes. Las fotos adjuntas demuestran lo contrario, el día 16 recibí un correo electrónico confirmando mi reserva y luego un buzón de voz informándome de la cancelación. Tenga cuidado con reservar cualquier cosa con antelación con este pub. Su tono agresivo pasivo y la falta de contrición genuina solo restregaron la sal. Gracias por nada.

We arrived at this pub late and the service was excellent. It was the only one that accepted food orders, as the other pubs had already closed their kitchens. The price was normal compared to other bars.

Ok pub comida y bebida. La noche fría tan cerca del hotel fue genial. Filete. & patatas fritas y filete / pastel de cerveza bueno. Solo servicio de mostrador, así que no mucho servicio.

Cuando se encuentra en la zona de la Torre de Londres, este es un buen lugar para tener un almuerzo de pescado con papas fritas. La comida era de buena calidad. La cerveza en el grifo es bueno con opciones adecuadas. No es del todo el pub de estilo antiguo, sino que es un poco más espacioso y moderno por dentro. El servicio fue educado. Está a unos 5 - 10 minutos a pie de la colina de la Torre.

Ordered a chicken wrap meal and was served a chicken burger. Queried with waitress who spoke to the chef. 5 seconds later was told “well I’ve made it now” and given back the same wrap. This is what I’ve come to expect from the cheese… genuinely love it 5 stars…

Had an amazing experience at Cheshire Cheese! Aditi, the bartender, was absolutely delightful—super nice, engaging, and genuinely fun to chat with. She made the experience so much better with her charm and great service. Honestly, this was one of the best weekends I’ve had in London so far. 10/10 would recommend and will definitely be coming back!

Wow. Was looking forward to dinner here made a booking. Oops! We forgot about your booking. Wait 10 minutes while we “clean” your table. Ordered at the bar. 30 minutes later our food arrived lukewarm. End of the evening (well before closing) they stop at or table and say “get up now and go downstairs”. No warning that they want to clean up the upstairs, no “please finish and head down in a few minutes”. Definitely do not recommend if you want anything more than a drunk pint.

Además de eso 2 empleados con personalidad cero y poco conocimiento de lo que estaban haciendo detrás de la barra!

This has always been a "banker". You know exactly what to expect when you visit, clean, efficient and quick. The only reason for not rating the food is because I haven't eaten here. Keep it up, great job!

Visited this bar Saturday, and while the service was top-notch, the experience left a bit to be desired. Paying £8.55 for a pint doesn’t offer much value for money, especially when you consider that drinks of similar quality can be found at a much lower price elsewhere. On the bright side, the cocktails were reasonably priced and well worth it. I was looked after by Brinsley and Jamie, who were fantastic – they helped me choose cocktails and made them perfectly. However, the heat was nearly unbearable, and I wasn’t the only one complaining about it. Honestly, come here for the service and nothing else; if it weren’t for Brinsley and Jamie, I would have left straight away.

I came to this pub to watch Arsenal, but my experience was ruined by a large group who came in and stood directly in front of the TVs, blocking the view for everyone. As if that wasn't bad enough, the sound turned off and they started singing loudly, making it impossible to enjoy the game. On top of that, the pub was unbearably hot, which made it even more uncomfortable. The pint I ordered was overpriced for what it was, especially given the poor atmosphere. It’s a shame because the location could have been a decent spot to watch football, but with all the distractions and issues, I won’t be returning anytime soon. Ended up going to the Windsor down the road for the same drinks menu but 2 quid cheaper!

Ordered on the ap but had to go up to the bar and ask, ordered veggie burger and chips, received vegan burger and waffle fries, bought back with veggie cheese, all food was cold, pointed out I asked for chips, came back hot burger, still waffle fries, was told they didn't have chips left, then saw other tables receive chips. Awful from start to finish. Staff have no customer are skills

We actually went here twice! The first evening we were in London we wanted to pop into a pub and have a drink and some light food. The Chicken Tenders were the BEST! and the drink specials were 2 for 1. It seemed to be a place locals came to watch football and other games. A few nights later we went for diner and drinks and sat upstairs and watched a US football game. Great pub!

When you enter and on the menus it tells you to place your order by scanning a QR code - which we did. After waiting 20 mins, we asked about our order and were told those orders come on a different printer and coming to the bar was better. It took another 15 mins for our order to be prepared. After the wait the food was average at best. The atmosphere was the best thing going for the place.

Quite a nice pub... it just became very uncomfortable at times because a group of around 30-40 people were suddenly allowed in (to the actual business) and it was just way too full... and we spent over an hour waiting for the fish and Chips waited...(before the group came!)

Try the beef chili jacket, great little spot.

Great pint of pale ale in a cosy pub. Didn't eat anything, just drank a quick pint. Crisp and cool beer, clearly they regularly clean their lines.

Nice pub. The promoted app didn't work properly, which was annoying. Food was ok, Fish and chips more than greasy and only small portion of vegetables. Mac and cheese quite a small portion. Tables were rather sticky, could've used a clean.

Out of the way place which I call my london office. Not too busy during the day, a great place to whack open the laptop and do some work

If you like chewy fish and reheated chips this is the place for you! In all honesty, if this was the last place left on earth to eat, I'd rather starve. Would recommend going to the MCC over the road for food instead. Also the waitress looked like she didn't want to be here, started rearranging our table whilst we were talking and slammed the cutlery pot on the table.

Lovely place. Good staff, but they lie about kitchen closing time (told us it closed at 9:40, went to order at 9:30 and they said it was closed). 3 dartboards. Lighting has been improved, but the oches are inadequate.) As the best ones are strips of tape on the floor. Have laser oches, but they are moved and have no batteries. Live music was ropey at best.

Nice classic pub good beer and nice personnel will come back next. Especially Thanks Deepak to serve food the service was wonderful. Friendly and hospitable. Definitely recommend.

Wandered into here after a visit to the Sky Garden. The place was mostly empty, which was such a nice change to the heart of London where we have been staying! We were encouraged to sit up stairs, and provided with some darts to play on the boards. The top level was empty, and we sat, chatted, played darts, such a nice calm family time. We ate fish & chips, big breakfast, a pie and opted for dessert and drinks too. Great staff and great prices. Felt really authentic. Thank you!

What a fantastic place! Didn’t know what I wanted to drink but the lovely Daisy recommended a Gin and Tonic. Great range of Gins excellent service and busy for a Wednesday afternoon. Atmosphere was amazing I ended up staying for a couple of hours I ordered lunch which was the chicken Goujon and cheese wrap which I had with a pint of Lager and it was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place and I will definitely be back

Never go to this place, we came last week to have some food and drinks and the guy with the glasses and bold(I think his the pub manager) was very nasty, such rude service. He wanted us to get out very quick and didn’t let us finish our food and also expecting a tip from us with his rude service.
