The Cheshire Cheese in City of London, Westminster

I came to this pub to watch Arsenal, but my experience was ruined by a large group who came in and stood directly in front of the TVs, blocking the view for everyone. As if that wasn't bad enough, the sound turned off and they started singing loudly, making it impossible to enjoy the game. On top of that, the pub was unbearably hot, which made it even more uncomfortable. The pint I ordered was overpriced for what it was, especially given the poor atmosphere. It’s a shame because the location could have been a decent spot to watch football, but with all the distractions and issues, I won’t be returning anytime soon. Ended up going to the Windsor down the road for the same drinks menu but 2 quid cheaper!

We actually went here twice! The first evening we were in London we wanted to pop into a pub and have a drink and some light food. The Chicken Tenders were the BEST! and the drink specials were 2 for 1. It seemed to be a place locals came to watch football and other games. A few nights later we went for diner and drinks and sat upstairs and watched a US football game. Great pub!

Great pint of pale ale in a cosy pub. Didn't eat anything, just drank a quick pint. Crisp and cool beer, clearly they regularly clean their lines.

Nice pub. The promoted app didn't work properly, which was annoying. Food was ok, Fish and chips more than greasy and only small portion of vegetables. Mac and cheese quite a small portion. Tables were rather sticky, could've used a clean.

Out of the way place which I call my london office. Not too busy during the day, a great place to whack open the laptop and do some work

If you like chewy fish and reheated chips this is the place for you! In all honesty, if this was the last place left on earth to eat, I'd rather starve. Would recommend going to the MCC over the road for food instead. Also the waitress looked like she didn't want to be here, started rearranging our table whilst we were talking and slammed the cutlery pot on the table.

Lovely place. Good staff, but they lie about kitchen closing time (told us it closed at 9:40, went to order at 9:30 and they said it was closed). 3 dartboards. Lighting has been improved, but the oches are inadequate.) As the best ones are strips of tape on the floor. Have laser oches, but they are moved and have no batteries. Live music was ropey at best.

Nice classic pub good beer and nice personnel will come back next. Especially Thanks Deepak to serve food the service was wonderful. Friendly and hospitable. Definitely recommend.

Wandered into here after a visit to the Sky Garden. The place was mostly empty, which was such a nice change to the heart of London where we have been staying! We were encouraged to sit up stairs, and provided with some darts to play on the boards. The top level was empty, and we sat, chatted, played darts, such a nice calm family time. We ate fish & chips, big breakfast, a pie and opted for dessert and drinks too. Great staff and great prices. Felt really authentic. Thank you!

What a fantastic place! Didn’t know what I wanted to drink but the lovely Daisy recommended a Gin and Tonic. Great range of Gins excellent service and busy for a Wednesday afternoon. Atmosphere was amazing I ended up staying for a couple of hours I ordered lunch which was the chicken Goujon and cheese wrap which I had with a pint of Lager and it was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place and I will definitely be back

Never go to this place, we came last week to have some food and drinks and the guy with the glasses and bold(I think his the pub manager) was very nasty, such rude service. He wanted us to get out very quick and didn’t let us finish our food and also expecting a tip from us with his rude service.

Paid £15 for a side portion at best! Chicken and bacon salad. Not impressed at all. The salad you had before the ‘new menu’ was better! Bring it back!!

Would like to thank the staff of the Cheese for hosting our summer get together. A great time was had by all. Great deal on a three course menu and good beer and wine selection.

Have often stopped off here before getting the train home. Really friendly & speedy service. Think Manager Mark has done wonders for the place. Enjoyed the live music too

Nice little pub and very handy to get to the tower of London attraction and Roman walls right outside. Service was great and prices very reasonable for what you expect from London. Whilst the selection was a bit ordinary the food that came was good.

WHAT A NIGHT! We had heard about the Wednesday night " Choir Night" It was like a free concert! Honestly you need to make time to visit this pub, you won't be disappointed! 🙏

We were made fun of for being tourists (we do have accents), and then we were made fun of because we booked a table (?!? Why even offering a booking option ?!?). We quietly left then, because I was concerned they might spit in our food and drinks - the demeanor towards us was kind of rude and hostile. Wouldn't recommend it to tourists.

We were staying at the doubletree across the street and stumbled in and this place is fantastic. Food is great, drinks flow, and the staff is outstanding. If you’re by Tower Hill and need food or a pint this is the place to go.

We stumbled across this pub a few years ago & were intrigued by its character from the outside. It has now become our favourite pub to visit when we come to London. Staff are extremely friendly, service is fantastic & we are always made to feel welcome. Would highly recommend a visit.

Regularly visit this pub after work in the city. Really friendly bar staff and great atmosphere. On Wednesday evenings they have a pop choir that sings which is great fun to sing and dance along with. Watched a couple of euros games here too - they have loads of tvs and the sound on. Definitely recommend.

Good atmosphere, this place is located under a bridge. I had the tower bridge ale here, it was quite tasty!

We visited on our trip from Australia and honestly this was the best English pub we have visited so far!! The atmosphere, service, drinks and food was bloody awesome!!! Mark who worked at the pub was fantastic and looked after us well! Thank you Mark :) we will be back soon!!

We came here based on the hotel's recommendation, nice atmosphere, good food. During our short trip we were there twice. For those who are hungry, I recommend a large fish & chips set - it's worth it.

Lovely little pub hidden away near to Tower Hill tube station with a great atmosphere, friendly staff and a great selection of food and drink.

Exactly what we were expecting as we were looking for a traditional English pub. Recommended by a tour guide so we tried it. Fish & Chips for lunch and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. No regrets!!

What is in the tower hill area and passed by this pub. I decided to go inside for some lunch and was not disappointed staff were friendly and helpful.

Dived in here last night to get out of the rain and to our surprise their was a singer on who was very good and so we ended up staying for the rest of the evening. Nice wine selection and overall a nice London pub.

This pub is the perfect place to meet friends and relax over a glass of what you fancy. We go every Wednesday to unwind and practice informally as the London City Voices choir and always get a warm and friendly welcome. The whole pub including its customers and staff come together creating a really uplifting community feel and a great vibe! Thanks to the Cheshire Cheese team and customers for making this possible , for making our evening extra special and for the great drinks too !!!

Tasty, affordable prices, bar-like, short waiting time, large portions, British cuisine with Indian influences.

Stopped in after a day of touring to have a Sunday Roast of turkey, accompanied by a delicious Guinness. Nice way to end a busy day. Will stop in again next month with the littles, they've a nice menu.

Visited this pub as part of a London walk. Good location near the train station so there were lots of customers here. Lots of seating and an upstairs area. Good range of drinks including a draught range. We didn't eat here but the food looked nice that was being delivered to the table next to us. The servers were friendly.

I had a wonderful meal here after visiting the Tower of London. I was served by Jamie who was fantastic and assisted me with what vegetarian options I might like. He looked after me very well.

The 1st UK pub on the our trip and it wasn’t topped. All I can say is WOW! Great food, drinks and service; Jamie could not have gone out of his way any more for us. Pub was a busy with suits during their lunch and he still made time to talk to us about our trip and Canada - I really hope he gets over to Vancouver soon! Really couldn’t recommend this pub enough. Come for the food, drinks and atmosphere, but stay for the service. You will not be disappointed!

Didn't have what I wanted to drink. Only 4 out of 8 taps had beer. Ordered starts, chicken was supposed to have a glaze and herb and garlic dip. Came dry with a side of bbq sauce. Got the doritos topped with cheese sauce and salsa. Was cold. Tables were dirty. No waitress at all from what I could tell.

Somewhere away from the crowds, an atmospheric place under the bridge with very good food, a large selection of beer and various drinks, plus 3 extra dart boards on the first floor. While you're waiting for your order, you can play a game. It's really worth getting off the main trail and taking advantage of the benefits

Music way to loud to be able to hear yourself talk. Ok for a night club which this is not. Also stop doing food at 5.20 in the evening because your busy is laughable. Oh well you live and move on.

As I work in the city I have been coming to the Cheshire Cheese for many years now. The selection of food and drink is very good. The staff are amazing, always very helpful and make everyone feel welcome and at home. I would thoroughly recommend a visit

Okay, drinks expensive, London tourist price

Went on a Sunday. Main barman who takes orders rude and abrupt. Food took a long time to arrive (but they did warn of this). Various items on menu not available, scampi very mushy, chicken over cooked. No milk for tea. Very poor experience.

This review will cover the not-great pieces before getting to all the good stuff, so read on! I’ll start by saying I’m Canadian-American and I love my food very well seasoned and my beer dark and heavy haha, so I’m biased when it comes to food. The food was hot and quick to come out with large, hearty portions, but it was tasteless and unseasoned in my opinion haha. This was my first attempt at eating standard English food, and I was very sad that the stereotypes might be true regarding the food (TBD after eating at more places because one is not a proper sampling to make generalizations like that). I tried three different brews on tap (all local English brews) and they all tasted light and just kind of weird? Again, will need to continue trying English beer before stating they’re all watered-down tasting and hoppy (I exclusively asked for amber beers). The whole upstairs inside smelled like cigarette smoke, which is fine for drinking beer but bad for when you’re eating food. Maybe it was just the patrons all smoking and coming in or the windows needing to be sealed better because I didn’t see anyone smoking inside. It was very cold too though and the windows were drafty so maybe that’s why. The big sofa-type chairs were really comfy though & tables were clean! Despite all this regarding food & atmosphere, the service was SUPERB. It was so good I didn’t even want to dock one star on my review. I wish I knew the bartenders name who worked there when I came in, because she was so kind, patient, helpful, friendly, and just completely lovely, both in words and appearance. What a gem. She went above and beyond to help me acquire a beer to enjoy, letting me sample them after I brought the first back (I was thinking the barrel must’ve run out because it was so tasteless and light that I thought there was something wrong with the tap, not believing the beer just actually tasted like that lmfao) and she spent time talking about which brews were new or popular and answering my questions about recommendations and so on. Truly impressive service. Such a delight to experience. Management must’ve taken previous reviews to heart about the bathrooms being dirty, because when I used them they were exceptionally clean and tidy and neat. I was so impressed by that. At a pub, I never expect toilets to be clean. Lastly, this is a convenient location right off the metro station, & I was happy to find that the televisions were not obnoxiously loud, nor the music, nor the patrons. Granted, it was a Monday night after working hours, so not a weekend or anything, but still.

Recommended by a friend for the 2-4-1 cocktails so myself and another friend thought we would try this place out. It was very busy meaning there was a buzzing vibe and the cocktails were lovely. Lots of city boys drinking but also a good few tables of women. Jamie looked after us, we will be back for more cocktails soon.

Popped into this pub after work with some friends. The food was a while coming out but tasted amazing, proper pub food. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Will definitely be returning

Went in for a quiet pint on a Wed night @ 8pm. Next thing - 60 people turn up and start singing. Apparently it happens every week. Quite cool. Beers were good too.

The Cheshire cheese is a large and welcoming pub with a lovely dining area upstairs for a nice meal and really lovely Bar downstairs for a more casual setting. The Staff are lovely and they always have a great selection of beer, the sport is often on and on many Wednesday evenings a local choir comes to sing which is lovely to see and hear.

We found this pub to enjoy the Grand National and it was a great spot. Convenient to the tube and great, reasonably priced drinks. We didn’t eat, but the food looked great.

We regularly visit the Cheshire Cheesecake every Wednesday after our London City Voices choir rehearsal - and do a bit of casual singing in the pub! It’s a welcoming place - friendly atmosphere, good value wine (very important) and the food is tasty too. All good.

Brilliant staff and a really nice atmosphere. There was a massive singalong on the Wednesday night we were there, apparently it happens every Wednesday. It was a total knees-up!

Great atmosphere, great service! I’m an American visiting and visited three times during my visit as I stayed nearby. Lots of other pubs around but this was the best choice. Food is reasonably priced and the wings are a great deal. I travelled with my family and found this to be a wonderful place for a meal with your family with kids!

The pub is quaint and visually appealing from outside, however, the food was less than average and the kids meal came cold. Ordering is self-serve at the bar (even for table service) or through the app which was convenient. Beware that ordering through the app requires you to close out the tab before you get your food and it took the better part of 30 minutes for the food to arrive on a not very busy Wednesday afternoon at 17:30. No service fee was included on the bill, so you get what you pay for with that aspect.

Really impressed with allergy knowledge of member of staff who served us. Will definitely return next time in London. Food tasty and filling too.
