The Chequers Tavern in City of London, Westminster

Rather nice in a cosy kind of way, but it is a bit cramped and the best red wine they served wasn't particularly good.

A small pub just down the street from Fortnum & Mason that is full of character! Came in for a quick drink with my partner and got a seat at the end of the bar. The prices were pretty good too, a round for two people coming in just over £12. Service was quick too, the size of the pub probably helping as there aren't too many people to serve. Lots of interesting decor to look at and a telly with sports playing too.

We didn't actually end up eating there. We took our seats in the totally empty pub.Not a single customer on a busy day at lunchtime. I guess the alarm bells should have rung in my mind. We ordered drinks and I headed to the toilet. I was stopped by the waitress in a very rude fashion and told that I couldn't use it until I had ordered and paid for our food. She was incredibly rude and aggressive, shouting at us.The place was also dark and dingy and didn't look to clean.

This pub is fantastic. Full of character and with an amazing John Lennon/Yoko Ono heritage, the atmosphere, welcome and drinks menu are all top class. The staff and owner were lovely. Highly recommended and I’ll definitely go again.

Good small no frill pub in st James with large outdoor area at the back (really convenient given cars can t access). Prices for drinks are cheap for the area (c. GBP 12 for 2 pints of lager). Place is however busy which can impact speed of service and accessibility is not the best.

Darragh is the most glorious bartender of all time. 10/10 will come again.

A real London pub. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. It's not a huge pub so expect it to be cosy when busy. A great escape from the madness of Oxford St!

Super cosy pub. Really good beers, great vibe, gets very busy at rush hour mind and once it’s busy it’s cramped. That said, still a terrific little boozer.

The worst service ever, staff were cold and unwelcoming, unprofessional one bartender was very rude. A beautiful pub like this deserves decent staff.

Didn't eat there but had a quick drink after doing the Xmas lights. Will pop in again when nearby. Serve guiness zero on tap.

Very nice local place to spend time durin the lunch break. We had multiple diffefent perfecr draft beers and of course Fish and Chips which was delicious meal. I would love to re-visit this tavern in the future. At the time of our arrival, it was silent place, but around the lunch time it was absolutelly full.

Avoid at all cost ! Disappointed in all fronts! £13.60 for double vodka & soda from a pupm .ffs

Regular London pub. Good prices for a sw1 postcode. Good variety of drinks, a few chairs outside and loads inside.

Rude staff to my daughter, minimum card payment £10 with no previous information for me to know, refused to serve one portion of chips just because of a party happening, very unhappy

Cosy place. All the meals are tasty. And they also serve Heineken and Kronenbourg which are my favorite beers.

Absolutely fantastic food and company at this establishment. We were visiting from the states and were givin a warm welcome and givin alot of local history...

Stopped in for a glass of wine after an exhibit at the Royal Academy. Friendly service but gloomy interior and (bizarrely?) only middie aged male clientele when we were there. There was 'outside seating' in the back but it was just a few bar stools (no tables) facing a parking lot. If there had been even one cute pub dog, it would have made it a lot better...

Lovely pub tucked away from Piccadilly and behind Fortnum and Masons

Lovely, very small city pub that properly represents what is best about the English Pub - (i) you are allowed, even encouraged to sit at the bar (ii) the layout means it is very easy to have conversations with anyone and be made feel very welcome, (iii) they have a working rope-drive dumb-waiter (Butler Lift) for food delivery, (iv) they have some interesting cask ales - only three pumps BUT at least not the same offerings that are found in nearly 80% of the competition. The decor is old fashioned in a good way, not a fruit machine in site. Thoroughly recommended! But obviously can fill up VERY quickly!

Small old fashioned pub near to Piccadilly. Nice staff with a real old boozer feel. Can be a bit cramped when busy but has nice atmosphere. The Christmas decorations were amazing adding to the character of the place. Reasonable prices for Mayfair Piccadilly. Food is also very good. One TV usually showing the racing. Also has outside seating for when weather is nice.

Old style single-roomed pub, with friendly bar staff providing good service. Good choice of the usual lagers, ciders and ales and not a bad price given its central location, just off Piccadilly and toward St James's Street. As with many other, similar, PH's in this area, basement WCs are down some steep, narrow stairs.

Dishonest staff. Lost my necklace and asked the bartender had seen it or if anyone had report a lost-&-found item (gave a detailed description) He went to ask his colleagues that said they didn’t know about anything. Luckily, a client saw someone hand my necklace to the bartender and intervened. If this client hadn’t said something, the bartender would’ve kept my necklace despite me insisting I lost it there.

Very old with a good tourist atmosphere

Went there Saturday, poor service and sub standard food (what food arrived that was). It’s a small pub which could never be described as busy but service was still poor. We ordered two baguettes which tasted stale and nothing better than we could have been paid at home. The other two meals never arrived and after waiting another 20 mins, got a refund and left. Lady serving us was rude during ordering and again on issuing the refund, like we were in the wrong.

The go to place for work drinks as it's local. Very intimate, small setting inside but better to be outside in warmer conditions. Very pleasant staff and the venue gets extremely busy after 5pm.

It is a cute little pub hidden in the city. The service was wonderful. I had a really nice roast dinner. The food was delicious. Portion was great.

The portions are fairly big, but are not tasty. The service was slow in the middle of the day (waited around 40 min for the pie).

Thursday lunchtime and the Sunday Roast is on! Well done. The Chequers in St James's is a great fun experience. The bar staff are lovely efficient and friendly. A great place for a drink and a Sunday lunch, any day of the week. Beer is good and cold. Casks for those that like warmer beer. All good and great to have a Roast on a Thursday! Beef, chicken and pork on offer. Well done to all involved.
