Good play area for kids but the food was really poor, worst pub burger we've had anywhere, seemed like a readymade one from a supermarket. So nice for a drink and a play but don't bother eating.

Went in for some lunch and to regroup after getting lost in Rugby (again...). Good happening atmosphere for a Thursday lunch time. Some good old boys working their way through some beers, and younger customers eating. I had a ham roll which had lovely thick fragrant ham, cut, I suspect, in house. Salad too. My wife had a tuna jacket spud with loads of salad. She ran out of steam and I finished the salad. I had a jolly nice pint of Landlord, which was well kept.

Went on a Friday night with a group of people, most of whom had pre-booked their meal. I and my husband hadn’t. However when we arrived the waitress took our order almost straight away. I was on a table of four. Out of the party two had pre-booked, two hadn’t. Three people of our party were served and I waited, and waited, and waited. At least an hour. When we checked I was told there had been a bit of confusion with the orders, but that “it’s on its way”. Half an hour later, at least, my dinner was served. Two other people had also waited a long time. I wished after the first hour I’d have cancelled. The chicken in the pie was cubed and hard, the sauce was watery, the pastry soggy at the bottom and burned on the top. The chips were appalling. We spoke with the gentleman behind the bar about the wait and the confusion. He blamed it on the group of people we were with. Was totally unsympathetic, bordering on rude. As regards the food. Two people in our group had fish and chips. The fish coating was hard, the chips awful. The serving staff were very efficient, can’t fault that. The food. Mmmmm. Maybe if we go back again it may be a better experience.

Such a friendly welcome! We were staying in the nearby Stanford Hall caravan site and walked over the fields to this attractive, traditional pub set in the picturesque village. Kim was our cheerful, obliging and highly efficient host. Her ploughman’s lunches - one cheese, one ham - were delicious. The platters generously proportioned and featuring top quality ingredients. We sat outside in the newly-completed “adults-only” patio garden to enjoy a pint of Cornish Pale Ale. A really happy experience, and many thanks to Kim for making it so.

Got quite excited when I could book online and expected a little more than what's a good honest pub selling OK food. With changes to the A14/M6/M1 junction it's a little far from the beaten track so maybe not quite worth the detour. Sadly they're also gettting rid of the blue and white Leicester FC stripes!

I stay here quite often for work and really can't say much against it. A few minor niggles which is just me being picky! Gail and Brian were great and will be missed, I was made to feel welcome from the moment I stepped over the threshold. The girls in the bar are lovely and friendly, great selection of beers and spirits. Sandra is around in the morning to set you up for the day with coffee and juice, breakfast is fab, fresh and good quality. The rooms are clean, have coffee and tea making facilities and tv. The new managers have big shoes to fill, looking forward to going there next week and meeting the new managers, and wishing Gail and Brian the best of luck with their new venture.

I’d recently heard that the Chequers had reopened for food so i thought it would make a lovely place for a meet up. It’s fair to say I was very impressed. Shocking! Chose this pub for a family gathering. Rang and booked for 15-20 people on a Sunday lunchtime. We should have been told at the time of booking that there was no way the kitchen could cater for that number of people at one time. It took over an hour and a half to get the meals to everyone, consequently some had finished before some were even served. Meals came out haphazardly, some cold and had to be taken back to be warmed up, some with bits of the dish missing, eg. No garlic bread with the meal but came after the meal was eaten and was not even toasted; a trio of sausages came with just two sausages and they had run out of tartare sauce for any fish meals. The gammon that several people chose was nearly cremated and couldn't be cut. The eggs on the all day breakfast look like they had been scraped off the floor. A vegetarian among out number chose a vegetable quiche and then waited 20 mins to be told that there was none available. She then chose vegetable lasagne only to wait again to be told that it was not good enough to serve to her!!! She ended up going to without a meal as by this time most people had finished eating and to be honest was just put off ordering anything else. The service was dire, one young lad doing his best to serve us all and failing miserably. Apparently even the beer was not up to its best. If possible I would give this restaurant a zero rating.
