We arrived before they opened and the owner was more than happy to make us a coffee and bacon sandwich. Fantastic people. They certainly looked after a couple of cyclists this morning. Will return for sure

Can only echo the reviews below, stopped over for only the night using motorhome stay the night. Great welcome both on the phone and in person. We travel as 2 couples and 3 doggies so usually try quite pubs or ones with beer gardens. This place has it in spades lovely rear contained garden cracking food and beer and some proper deserts to dye for. Check out that cheese cake.Mmmmmmm Every village pub should do this, keep supporting local pubs

Visiting a relative today and found it difficult to find a pub open. Booked at The Chequers, well couldn’t believe our luck, this is a real gem. Upon arrival walking into the bar and greeted by friendly landlady, and nice warm fire, first impressions do count! There was an extensive menu, as well as ‘specials’, and all diets catered for, and all at a very reasonable cost. The food served was all excellent as well as being hot, with very good size portions. Service was excellent and all staff friendly, we wish we lived closer to make better use of it 😄

Four generation afternoon lunch. Mum is 95 and her great grandchildren 9 & 14 Not easy getting Mum out and about so we were hoping all the effort was worth it. Luckily picked a great place The Chequers Friday Bridge. Great service and good food. Good old school pub, not a chain, nice friendly atmosphere

After months of staying in or only going a short distance, we had a drive from our home in Long Sutton to the Chequers. What a lovely place. Smashing friendly landlady. The pub was really clean. The food was excellent - Lamb Shank for me and Rump steak for husband finished by Baileys cheesecake and cherry crumble and custard. All of it was absolutely delicious and cooked so well. Thank you !! We will certainly be back again and look forward to trying a Sunday roast next time. Great value for money. Please go people you won't regret it

Hired The Chequers for my mother’s wake, catered for 60 guests and they did a fantastic job. Buffet style, sandwiches, finger foods, teas and coffees - the spread was great, more than enough. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Chequers for any event of this size. Many thanks Glenn.

This Pub does what it says on the tin! Good Food. Chef Glenn cooks really good, basic food - A simple Menu but enough choice to satisfy most appetites and at good prices. You will certainly get good value for money and if they've got the ingredients you can order something not necessarily on the menu. I've never had a bad meal here and have not seen anyone else complaining.

Well I didn't have the heart to tell the staff as they were lovely but oh my word , haven't tasted anything that bad for a long time , garlic mushrooms looked nice sadly some were still cold inside salad garnish lovely though, ran out of steak which isn't their fault although it was only 630pm , i had hunters chicken it was a large piece of chicken but far too much sauce and chicken not quite cooked enough although it was not pink inside it was slightly hard not soft succulent meat, chips very over cooked in old fat as had brown colour too them and deep fat fryer taste , frozen peas well that's what I think they were! so badly over cooked they shrivelled up to little bullets so bad couldn't eat them. My husband had supposed hand battered cod and chips well that was straight out the freezer and deep fried too , dripping in fat disgusting! Didn't eat it all . Sadly not a place I would return too!

Mi carne asada era difícil no podía comer. El resto estaba bien. mantel y vasos no muy limpio. El helado sundaes agradable. 80 libras por 8 personas por dos platos y bebidas es muy barato, pero prefiero pagar más para la mejor calidad.

Booked a table for 2pm, went into what was a very crowded bar showing sports people playing cards and darts, not a warm feeling at all. There was nowhere to sit while waiting for our table and felt uncomfortable in the bar so although it was cold went to sit outside, which was then invaded by smokers talking and using awful language just pleased we never had children with us. At 2.15 our table was still not ready and a couple who had not booked went to the bar asked if a table was available and was told they would make room for them and were given a table ahead of us.

Dinner with friends was our reason for visiting. Starters ok, but mine arrived without it's salad, which I brought to the attention of the waitress, and it was then brought. Main courses arrived. My Cajun chicken was charred, burnt and inedible, my husbands the same. It came with"chunky chips" which were actually potato quarters, I suspect they were baked potatoes which had then been fried too long. Not very appetising to look at but ok. One of our friends was happy with their meal, the other had lasagne. The sauce in the lasagne appeared to be missing, and it was very dry. So our three meals were returned to the kitchen. They were re-ordered, apart from the lasagne, and the second serving of Cajun chicken was a bit better. We were told the lasagne had been a frozen one, and if it was replaced with another that would be dry also, so our friend declined any main course. We were offered a free round of drinks, which we didn't accept, and not charged for the returned meals. But our evening was spoiled, and we won't be going back to the Chequers. I could have cooked a better meal at home and wished I had. The waitress was very apologetic, we saw no other staff, no chef or management came to talk to us about the food.

The Chequers Inn has a fantastic atmosphere. Very relaxed and welcoming with separate dining area or you can eat in the bar. We had lunch here on Saturday, having seen a large advert praising the new chef. We hadn't been here before, so came on spec. The pub itself needs some money spending on it and to be honest I wasn't too sure going into the bar, but boy was it worth the experience. There were sadly only the 4 of us dining so the chef was both cooking and serving. Nice in one way as we were able to chat to him but his food deserves more. One of us had the starter of chicken wings and they were lovely as was the salad accompaniment. We had 4 different mains, I had beef stroganoff and rice and it was heavenly. The other meals were steak and kidney pie which came with new potatoes and a heap of beautifully cooked fresh veg, sausage and mash which was swooned over and a Chequers stack. The latter is a burger with all the trimmings and fabulous chips - pronounced the best for a long time - and some onion rings to die for. The puddings we sampled were Eton Mess and tracle pudding and custard. Both were scrummy. The whole lot was accompanied with drinks and we got the biggest surprise at the bill. Very reasonable. The sad thing is that the owner is apparently thinking of turning it into a permanent carvery as it is very busy on a Sunday. Please don't. Put faith in your chef and put some pictures on the wall in the dining room. Word of mouth will do the rest for food like that at such good value. We eat out a lot and will definitely be back.

If you want good pub grub then The food in this place is better than anywhere in the local area! A month ago my wife and I decided to try the food after the pub changing hands. We had the burgers 🍔 and the dirty fries 🍟 we have been residents of Coates village for 30 years and both grew up in Whittlesey. What you get here is the only thing within 40 miles that would rival anything decent burger and fries from London (I mean, American style)! I’ve severed some hi end establishments over my time with meat as I was a butchery manager that worked for jimmy Doherty (Jamie Oliver’s mate) for a number of years and I’m ecstatic that I have this 200m up the road! The service was spot too!! Hats off too chef at the vine!! This guy know what he is doing 🎩👍🍔🍟

We had booked for a party of 20, though had a few drop out through illness. After drinks in the very friendly bar we were asked to make our way to the restaurant. Wow!! The pub had really pulled out all the stops for us. Decorated tables and everything. Food and service was fantastic. The two minor complaints were dealt with very quickly and satisfactory. Well done the Elm Tree, Rock Choir will be back I'm sure.

Went with family and friends. Sunday roast was decent, lovely lamb, beef and chicken. Massive Yorkshire’s with loads of gravy with more offered. Scent roast potatoes which is always good at a pub and decent fresh cooked veg. Even the Brussels sprouts were good which was excellent. Staff generally very friendly, manageress seemed faulty stern but clearly runs a tight ship. Prices competitive. Difference between this and 5 stars is nothing to do with food and service. Down to fact that if you have a baby or toddler the changing facilities are less than basic! Something they really could do with sorting.
