Love this pub. The bar is lovely and welcoming. The bar is very well stocked with various different drinks including loads of low or non alcohol. The food has different options and if you talk to the staff they may be able to adapt meals to suit your dietary needs. Would recommend for a visit and definitely try their food. Sunday roast are great!

I think the person who wrote CLOSED. Should rewrite and revised this. As this is untrue. The pub is not CLOSED. THE PUB management have a revised timetable for after Christmas. Like most places this time of year round here. The management who have worked tremendous hard...with great opening times are having a rest and some breaks. Open this Friday and next...there timetable is displayed outside the pub. Lovely pub...Great selection of drinks. Have a great time down your local 👍

Cold plates so food tepid. Service ok but no offer of a dessert menu, asked for mustard & it came in a plastic squeeze bottle that did not give out any mustard, no actual Sunday roast on the menu so don’t bother if that’s what you want. Food is put onto the cold plates & served to you whereas we prefer to put our own vegetables out. . We were the only 4 people eating so no atmosphere. Won’t bother again

I had never been here before and my boyfriend had raved about it so I decided to book it for his birthday as a surprise. I booked a fair few weeks in advance thinking we would get a lovely table but as soon as we arrived my booking name was for starters under the wrong name, secondly we were dumped into the edge of a walkway, we then sat and ordered. We got garlic bread to start and we're not given any starter plates like other diners were given. My other half then ordered steak as he loved to pick what steak he got (that's what he loved about the restaurant so much) little did we know he didn't even get to pick, they just gave it to him. There was no offer of water. Overall the food was second to none, it was amazing, as I was so excited to come to his favourite place if the service was there then this place would be one to beat... such a shame.

We went to the Chequers for the Tuesday "Rack Attack" which having been before we knew it would be good. However, this time it was not so good - it was just okay and considering it is only £10 per head we did not feel there was room to complain. My husband and I ordered the ribs but my son ordered fillet steak surf and turf..... steak apparently was beautiful but the prawns turned up when he had finished his meal! Despite us chasing. Waitress very apologetic but not great service. The main issue though was that being a local pub/restaurant they advertise the local brew of Rebellion.... however, we sat down to be told that they had run out ! Not great news as that to my husband is the main draw to The Chequers. Not that we asked, but we really should have complained as they were happy to take full payment from us - typically English we did not complain but in hindsight we should have. As it was not so good this time around it is doubtful we will go again - shame !

MORE AT OpenTable

Guys I'm writing my review : A group of 8 booked a table at 5pm on a Sunday evening, thinking that we had booked an early dinner. On arrival we were informed that the kitchen would close in an hour at 6pm and that they were closing for the week due to refurbishments. We had made our dinner booking weeks in advance and were not informed via phone or email that this was occurring and how it would impact our dinner. Having reconciled this issue we decide to forge ahead and order off a limited menu which was not representative of the normal menu because of the impending closure. Very disappointed we order from the limited menu. A number of orders were made for the fish and chips, after the order was made we were informed that they had a very limited quantity of haddock left and would supplement with sea bass, upon service of meals the fillet size of the fish was about 80grams, a very small fillet. Nothing was going right, at this point we complain and the chef is at our table with an apology. We are so disappointed we were about to leave, however the manager promises to fix everything and serve the entire table with the left over carvery with a discount to the table. We accept the offer and receive a very large serving of carvery alongside our original meal order. Satisfied with the food now we ask for the bill and are handed the full bill amount with no discount. After bringing this to the attention of the manager, she promptly delivers a 70% discount and we settle that amount with a small tip, for the final effort. All in all a terrible experience on their bad night, but all is fair, as the bill amount was substantially reduced. Two stars for fairness and that's it for this factual account.

I've visited Marlow many times over the years but curiously I had never eaten at The Chequers so when the opportunity appeared on OpenTable to have a late lunch with my wife I took it. The pub was easy to find and I managed to park 50 yards away from the front door despite it being a busy Saturday. The pub is a bit of a tardess with a lovely English warm and cosy feel about it. My wife and I had looked at the menu on the OpenTable App prior to arrival so we were especially looking forward to Sticky Beef Sarters and the Pan-Fried Sea Bass Fillet as a main, unfortunately neither are on the current menu which was half the size of the menu listed in the App. The waitress explained that the menu has changed late last year and apologised that OpenTable hadn't been updated so we choose our starters and main with a special request for some alternative sauces for my wife's fish dish all taken into account and handled really well. Have to say that our waitress was first rate and our food was delicious so top marks to The Chequers for that. What I hadn't appreciated was what the price would be for lunch as a whole for the 2 of us considering we had a shot of brandy, 2 glasses of wine, garlic bread with cheese (£4) Cod Fishcake with pea purée (£8), 200g fillet steak (£24)with side salad and a Seabass Fillet (£17) no desserts and a latte to finish. The total bill was £83! The sweet potato fries and the side salad to my steak were both extras and to me were there to just bump up the spend. It didnt worry me to the point that I wouldn't go back again but enough to make you look carefully before you order. Overall a lovely pub, great food and service just a touch expensive.

A few items on the menu were not available, causing us to have to order the more expensive option, or not really what we wanted. Found it extremely overpriced for the quality of the food, atmosphere, having to substitute this and that due to the restaurant not having it? I think £15.90 for a hamburger is ridiculous in a pub.

We were the only table in the restaurant and after our plates were taken away waited about 30 min to ask for the dessert menu at which time we decided it would probably take too long and we'd be forgotten again. We then asked for the bill and were shocked to see a £14 + service charge. There was no manager to be found so we paid it reluctantly. We were celebrating my husband's birthday with friends at a place recommended by 2 different sources. Both the other couple and ourselves stated we would not rush back if ever. The food was OK but not up to the standard we would expect for the price we paid. £50 for 2 steaks meals was a bit over the top when it was no different to a regular pub. I really liked the bar and restaurant's cosy ambience. We were immediately made to feel welcome by the very attentive waiters and never felt rushed to order. Food and wine really great. A truly enjoyable evening at The Chequers!

Excellent service very attentive, great selection choice, love the fact you choose your cut of steak. Didnt have to wait for anything and it was during the Regatta, brilliant pub/restaurant.

A favourite of ours, although the steak is so good - and the hot chocolate mousse! - that we haven't explored the menu fully. Lovely to have Malbec available by the glass. Service is always excellent. However, not sure I would return on a Wednesday as there was a quiz in the bar, which doesn't quite fit with the dining experience...

Although having booked a table, we were placed in the corner of the family area under a speaker playing loud music. W asked to move but were unable too as tables were all booked. Otherwise , food and service is excellent.

Whoever turned around the chequers into the eatery it is today is a genius! Hats off to that chefs and sevice. Food and especially the steak is of a quality you will not find better elsewhere! Truly gobsmacked by the taste! Staff all very friendly and can't do enough for you! Can't wait to come back! Menu is simple but just works! Best Rib Eye anywhere! Top marks to all!

The food was OK but not excellent. It certainly doesn't warrant the prices charged.
Brakspear's need to see what else is around Marlow and the neighbouring towns. Selling the excellent quality steak by the 100g is pretentious and, at the prices charged, expensive. There are better restaurants around the local area offering better value for money for very similar products and quality. The back dining room lacks ambience. This restaurant has potential but leave the elevated prices and pretence behind and offer the same quality food at better prices and re-think the dining room layout: it needs, lightening up, freshening up and offering a more honest appearance. It's life will be limited without a re-think.

Steaks were wonderful. Creamed spinach not creamy tasted just boiled, have had far better.
Macadamia cheesecake tasted like it had come from a packet very disappointing.
I would return though just for the steak .
Atmosphere and service very good.

All of the locals were friendly, staff was great, the signs behind the bath were a good laugh and the pints were perfect.

Im a big fan of the family run Cafe D'licious as a stop off point for breakfast. Great consistent quality food. Lovely service. I recommend. It is also on the national sustrans route through Wisbech and makes a conveniant stop off point from where travellers could enjoy a bite to eat and explore Wisbech's vibrant history (Thomas Clarkson Memorial, Wisbech Museum, Octavia Hill Museum, and Peckover House).
