Lovely Sunday lunch today, £21 for a 3 course meal is great value and yet the food was really good too! Efficient service also worth a mention.

Had a lovely family meal this Sunday, the homemade Brie starters were delicious & the Sunday roast was amazing with loads of extra gravy & fabulous cauliflower cheese 🧀 everything looked & tasted freshly cooked .. would defo recommend

This is a wonderful pub. Run by the village community, a warm welcome was received and the food and beer were both excellent.

Just called in for a drink and would have stayed for the evening, but staff totally indifferent to our presence, too busy joking and swearing (loudly) with some other customers. Not the experience you'd expect. Only a three because the beer was nice. If i wasnt a local id not go in again. They really need to pull their socks up.

Has a fantastic family lunch here - beautiful historic building, good choice of beer (2 local on tap when we visited), lovely decor including Kent hops, good food and a selection to suit all tastes. Great service, coffee and home made cake available good snack selection. We enjoyed it!

A great place for everything - the food is fabulous, a multitude of drinks to choose from, friendly and super efficient team looking after you. Friday nights seem to be a big hit with live local bands that invariably get everyone up dancing and having a whale of a time, locals and new customers alike! Looking forward to summer with a Pimms or two in the big garden. Definitely worth a visit or three :)

We were camping nearby so we’re looking for something convenient but felt like we’d stumbled upon a gem of a pub! The food was superb, reasonably priced. We had steaks, burgers and chicken and the quality was very high for the price. We were also there on a Friday night when they have live music and we loved it! The band was really good, played lots of oldies and got the whole pub involved. Great atmosphere! Would recommend!

The waitress was kind, hard-working and courteous but was let down by the kitchen staff. She seemed to be running the whole front of house on her own, although no doubt she is capable she should not have been on her own. The kitchen advised her to tell us that the excuse was that the kitchen was small. We waited an hour and a half for our food and all of them were very dry and rather small portions. They advertised that they could cater for gluten-free meals but clearly struggled. At least one other table came in, were served and left before we received any food at all. We were offered some desserts on the house for the inconvenience, which were actually very nice. Very disappointed overall. Will not be going back or recommending under the current management, which is a shame for our local but if they have any sense they will retain the young lady who served us on 28. 05. 24

I have never been to this pub before... it was recommended by a member of staff at my brothers home. (we do not live in the area) . The food was awesome. The place was aesthetically appealing The staff were courteous and professional and so to were the locals that we met I highly recommend this pub. If there were 15 boxes to tick I'd would tick them all. A really nice family evening ... Thank you very much

Had lunch here with friends. They offered 2 meals for £15 which seems to be great value for money. A little disappointing to find that the choice is either a baked potato or a sandwich. Drinks were reasonably priced, the bread for the sandwiches good. Nothing wrong with the food but all four of us agreed that they need to rethink the recipe for the coronation chicken. The chicken is fresh no problems there but the sauce is lacking. A strange vinegar tang and nothing like a true coronation recipe. The coffee is very good and the offer of a coffee of your choice plus cake for £4 is very well priced. The highlight of the visit is the excellent barman. Friendly helpful and made you feel very welcome. He is a credit to the pub. Don't lose him. We felt very much at home but felt the bar did lack a certain something when it came to ambience. A very small car park.

Unfortunately, the standard of food was very underwhelming to say the least. Having eaten here about a year ago, things have declined dramatically to the point where I simply will not return. The roast pork was so tough it could not be sliced and I suspect that it was a mass produced catering product. The roast chicken was tasty but again tough and difficult to cut. We were a little surprised and concerned that there were no other customers when we arrived at 1.00p.m., on what should have been a very busy Bank Holiday weekend, but now I am not surprised. After an underwhelming main course, we then waited ages for the dessert which was presented with a variety of different sized spoons, ranging from a ladle sized serving spoon down to a soup spoon!!

Wanted to support a local pub after our walk. Looked at menu on line, very good., Took a detour specially only to be told they do not serve food!

I recently met with a group of ex work colleagues for Christmas lunch. very friendly service and the food was excellent quality, appeared all homemade, a complete bargain at £25 ! I eat out a lot at good restaurants and expectations were exceeded. A lovely old traditional and spacious pub

Stopped here for lunch, very disappointed. From the outside & and the interior we really had a hood feeling about this place, and we’re expecting a good lunch. Sadly not the case. Wife had fish & chips. Fish small, and looked fried to within an inch of its life, sent it back & declined a replacement meal. I had steak burger & chips, underwhelming. Won’t be going back.

Previously moving to Ash, I visited this pub and oh my!!! The food was amazing and the staff were so welcoming. Since, it has been taken over and the food has massively gone down hill and is just crappy pub food, having to wait 50 minutes for a jacket potato & the staff are rude and very poor. Absolutely gutted as it defo was one of the factors why I chose to move to Ash; it is now embarrassing when I suggest to go here with my family who visit.

A lovely quaint pub, with an interesting background. Saved from closure by the villagers. We had a wonderful meal. Pork belly for my husband, steak and ale pie for myself. Couldn’t fault either. Really good value for money. The best surprise when we received a complimentary dessert to share. Staff were friendly and attentive, and it was an enjoyable experience.

Lovely Mother’s Day lunch. We were so well looked after by Jess, who was great fun! Excellent food and service from a fabulous village pub. The sponge pudding was outstanding!

Service was excellent , very attentive , however the food was very poor , cauliflower cheese was made with packet sauce , so easy to make a béchamel sauce ,- the potatoes were not roasted or crispy , the beans were over coated in salt , the parsnips were bland , the meat was ready sliced and dry and tough and clearly had been sitting around , the beef was over cooked not medium as stated on the menu and the lamb was not leg of lamb , it was such a shame , as I say the pub was lovely as was the service but the food was not even a good standard , hopefully they have a better chef on other days .

Excellent food and outstanding service provided for my dads wake. Very respectful and welcoming which made the day pass with ease .

We visited the chequer inn after a long country walk. From the second we walked in, the service was amazing. The bar was full, so we were swiftly seated in the beautiful dining room. The staff were extremely welcoming and nothing was too much trouble, with excellent food. Highly recommended and extremely dog friendly. Thank you for a lovely visit.

We had a really nice impromptu visit for dinner and drinks! We was warmly welcomed! Food was really good and so reasonably priced! We are new to the village and looking forward to lots more meals here. If I had one criticism it would also be the lightning in the bar. It’s sooo bright and not really necessary to be that bright.

Great to have our local pub open again and serving good food and beer. We all tried different starters and mains from an interesting menu different from the usual pub food. All the dishes without exception were nicely presented and very tasty. The draught beers were good and overall the prices were very reasonable and they seem to have a good chef!? We will definitely go again , although we would like the bar area to be a bit cosier perhaps with a log fire and a more subdued lighting !

Really enjoyed tonight. The pub has recently reopened and we thought we would give it a go. The food was really nice and not too expensive. The service was also good. I have read other reviews about the lighting. It is a bit bright. Be better with dimmed lighting and candles perhaps. However, we will come back to the pub and we really enjoyed it. The young woman serving did an excellent job.

The lighting is completely wrong - much too bright. We go to a pub to relax but the lighting over the bar was quite blinding. Very echoey as well. Perhaps still early days and a work in progress, but not the country pub we were hoping for.

This beautiful ancient Inn re-opened recently. Four of us went last night and the food and service was great. I don’t think they have the lighting quite right , being very bright but I guess this is a work in progress. Anyhow, a great start with, I’m sure, greater things to come. Well done. We will be back.
