10/10 in every respect - best restaurant in the North West

Decided to give this place a second chance, having been to the restaurant in its previous guise in the music hall passage a few years back and found it disappointing. The pre-booked welcome drink wasn’t provided until requested. Good focaccia appetiser and “the usual” gordal olives. Surprised to find there was no tasting menu option and the menu was a bit typically Chester rather than unusual and inspiring. Lobster tail starter was about half a small lobster tail and a small piece of hot smoked salmon with a nice rich sauce. A good starter, nicely presented. Special valentines surf and turf was half a steak and two prawns. While steak was nicely cooked, it was lacking flavour and not sufficiently matured. Pecorino and truffle chips lacked crispness. Dessert again nicely presented - chocolate with strawberries and cream - had a nice ganache but the chocolate used for the shell could have been better quality. I was underwhelmed and wouldn’t go again. Twenty Eight next door is better and I prefer the small plates concept. Also better value next door. For a real step up in quality, service and imaginative cooking, head to Covino.

Oh my goodness we had a beautiful meal, the starters and desserts were exceptional. We chose several from the snack menu. Tempura prawns were outstanding. The mains were really good, only issue was monkfish still had water residue that sadly diluted the Thai sauce, and potatoes oil the venison dish were a tiny bit over salted. This didn’t affect our overall experience and the restaurant was very busy due to valentines night. More staff would have helped reduce waiting times and probably the tiniest faults mentioned. These were not worth mentioning at the time as staff were doing their very best. Mentioning now for management feedback. Will definitely visit again! The starters and desserts were the best we’d ever tried!! All Staff so friendly and welcoming!

This restaurant is excellent ! The food , service and ambience all come together creating the perfect dining experience . The menu is varied and right through from the snacks which is a toss up between the venison mini sausages to the haggis fritters , the mains of perfectly cooked feather-blade of beef or fish for example to the desserts . Everything looks and tastes divine . The servers are excellent , enthusiastic and know their menus . Really can’t fault it ! Thank -you .

We all really enjoyed everything about Chef's Table. The the food was excellent; to start we chose salmon, aubergine and Iberico pork - all very tasty; for mains two chose stonebass and two the beef, both had generous portons, were very tasty and nicely presented. The ginger pudding was a huge hit with the men and the petit cheese made a great finish for me. The service was relaxed but efficient; our table water was refilled without fuss, there was a great range of wines and the sommelier desrves mention for being mindful of the drivers in our group. Chef's Table was recommended by a young friend and this was our first visit - we will definitely return. Thank you

Regular visitors of the chefs table and I can say they have definitely stepped it up a notch. The dishes were very unique and incredible in flavour. I had the lobster for start and the monkfish cheek for main whilst my husband had the surf n turf then the beef. All was cooked to perfection. Was quite overwhelmed how good the evening was

Met friends here who highly recommended the restaurant. Perhaps because they were talking it up we expected a lot, and it was almost there. Food was interesting, pleasant, though my halibut was over-seasoned. Service was good, but ambience felt a little cafe like for a place with 'foodie' dishes. Would go again but needs more refinement in my opinion.

We had the Sunday roast and everyone enjoyed the beef or duck. The duck was exceptionally tender. Fresh vegetables cooked to perfection with such delicious flavours. We had the sticky ginger for dessert which again was delicious. It can be a little difficult to hear fellow diners when the restaurant is busy. Staff were very courteous, nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend a meal at The Chef’s Table

We have eaten here on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed the food. However on this occasion it was outstanding. Food was excellent and the wine pairing was just perfect. Can’t wait to return Carys

What a fabulous and delicious meal at Chef’s Table. A Birthday treat with attentive staff on a very busy evening who still took time to say Happy Birthday written in chocolate along with sweet treats at the end of the meal. First visit to the new Chef’s Table although we were very regular visitors to Music Hall Passage. We were thrilled with our visit and thought the food was exceptional and the service was excellent and very friendly. We could not have wished for more and thank everyone involved. We were given a voucher for Chef's Table in Chester as a Christmas present and haven't been there before. It was a Wednesday night in the middle of January so we expected it to be relatively quiet, despite the 20% discount offer this month. There were only a few tables being used but that suited us just fine as it meant we could engage more with the staff, who were excellent. Sino, the sommelier, clearly knows his stuff and we ordered a bottle of Plavac (Croatian wine) as we'd enjoyed this on our travels there over the last few years. We ordered foccaccia, haggis fritters and venison chipolatas to get us underway, which were all very tasty. For starters we had surf and turf and lamb with feta and beetroot salad. My partner said the scallop on her surf and turf was the best she'd had since we were in Italy, which was 8 years ago! The lamb was delicious. For main course we had cod cheeks in a massaman curry sauce and iberico pork with winter vegetable as a side dish. The portion sizes of the main course were generous and the food was once again excellent. It is clear that Chef's Table uses some of the best produce around and Liam the chef with his team prepared the food beautifully. We have been to a few high end fine dining restaurants with taster menus but this ranked right at the top for us. We would definitely recommend Chef's Table, it's not cheap but you certainly get what you pay for here, it's outstanding! Our waiter was also friendly and very helpful so that also made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Thanks to everyone for a lovely experience, I'm sure we'll be back!

Best standard of freshly prepared, modern British food in Chester (for miles in fact). Excellent (and varied) wine list and drinks service.

Chef’s Table was brilliant from start to finish. The staff were brilliant and helped us choose wines to pair with our meals, perfectly. The lamb starter was the star- well balanced and beautiful. It was a perfect evening.

The food was absolutely delicious and extremely well presented; the service outstanding. One of our party was vegetarian and she was very happy with the vegetarian and vegan menus. I couldn’t fault a thing.

Went here for my birthday, and it was exceptional. From the service to the food. We had prawns, olives and cauliflower bites to start then the beef for main, best food around.

It would be unfair to rate this restaurant as anything but outstanding. Best french 75 in Chester and the best meal in Chester- by a long stretch! No other restaurant comes close.

Fabulous food and great service. Wow! What a meal…exquisitely balanced and beautifully tasty…every morel was one to savour…a delight to eat. One guest needed a Gluten Free diet and this was accommodated well with a GF menu. Wonderful food, just wish we had room for dessert. We’ve eaten in a few Michelin Star Restaurants over the years and actually the food here was as good or actually better as we loved it, real food with wonderful flavours beautifully cooked and presented. This was our second time here…we will be back.

Incredible food but extremely slow service. We were a table of 6 booked in for 2:30, we did the 2 course menu and nearly missed our evening drinks booking at 5pm! Every course we ate was delicious but the gaps in service and attention were huge. 2 and a half hours for a 2 course lunch was extreme and the whole restaurant emptied out around us.

This was our first visit to Chefs Table and from the warm welcome we received as we arrived it was clear we were going to have a really enjoyable evening. The food was fantastic ,very innovative and wonderful flavours and the decision on which dish to choose was very difficult as all sounded delicious !!! The service was superb with all the waiters fully engaged and very knowledgeable whether the food or wine . We will certainly be back as it was a memorable meal.

Overall the experience was good, however the main dish was terrible over salted! The snacking (pre-starter) sounded good in the menu but was disappointing. The starter was superb and wine was nice. Was our meal for two worth £166.. No.

From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome, going above and beyond to ensure the evening was special. The ambience was intimate and elegant, perfect for such a special occasion. Every course of the tasting menu was a masterpiece — beautifully presented, bursting with flavour, and perfectly paired with exquisite wines. The chef's creativity and attention to detail were evident in every bite. What truly stood out was the personal touch. They surprised my wife with a beautifully crafted birthday dessert, complete with a handwritten message. It’s clear that Chef Table is not just about food but about creating memorable experiences. Visited to try the festive lunch menu and it was absolutely delicious. From the soup to the lamb, the duck confit to the ham hock, poached pear and sticky toffee dessert, very dish was so tasty and very well presented. Excellent service from all the wait staff and great wine rec from Cino as always. Practically perfect. We're never disappointed by a meal here.

Pleasant evening. When going to places like this, I do nitpick when spending top dollar. When greeted and presented to your table, you'll be asked if you would like water, either mineral or sparkling, good selling, but at £6 a bottle for mineral water, ask for tap! Good choice on the menu, vast wine list, but prices of wine have gone up since our last visit, but again I chose a bottle they didn't have. Food was good, my main course could have been hotter. Had a cappuccinos at the end of the meal, which obviously came out of automatic coffee machine, it was more like a Latte. Front of house staff were good and dressed in casual but smart bistro attire, but the trainers ?

Table snacks and starter was beautiful. The lobster tail was well cooked. But the main fish was over cooked and dried.. It needed more sauce as well. Too expensive for what it is. The dessert choice was very poor. We still tried some fruits dishes but they weren't memorable. Wine and coffee are great. The staff are really lovely and friendly. I hope they gets most of the tips.

We have been fortunate to eat in a lot of Michelin restaurants and other great restaurants all throughout the US, UK, and Europe. This was a top 10 meal for us that we've ever had in the last 20 years of dining together. We both had the Venison and it was incredible. The service was impeccable. The sommelier was there just before we ran out of wine every time. All of the wait staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The experience sitting in the lounge first before the restaurant opened was also very welcoming. This was our first time in Chester and we'll be back again partly due to the Chef's Table and the opportunity to eat here again.

Starter of Venison (x2) was excellent. Main course of Beef was good. Main courses of Duck and Ham Hock were over-salted, as were some of the side dishes. Not very good considering the price.

Probably one of the best meals we've had this year and the cocktails were pretty damn good too. The menu was just to our liking. Every dish was cooked to perfection and presented excellently. Looking forward to going back.

Lovely meal as always. We had a business meeting in town then needed to relax in a friendly environment Jess looked after us very well along with the unusually quiet Celso. Food and wine were great, an enjoyable day.

Amazing food and can’t wait to return. Definitely the best around and a change from the norm.

I was really underwhelmed with my experience, having gone in with high expectations. Firstly being seated was a little comical, from not knowing which table, to issues taking our jackets. Took forever and a day to get served after we sat down, then when we finally had our order, they forgot 2 of the starters which were later served mid way through our mains. Moreover the food was incredibly salty, I love a seasoned meat but even I was starting to swollen just eating my main. Lastly, I asked for a large glass of wine to finish off my meal, was served a small one, I could tell given the table to our left had the same and it was clearly visibly. Given the farce throughout the meal I didn’t query this, only then to be changed twice at the end of the meal for a large glass of wine. Having spent over £300+, I felt very underwhelmed with the whole experience and would hesitate to go back or recommend this place to anyone in the future, sadly.

Booked a table for my birthday after reading some good reviews. Unfortunately, our high expectations have not been met. All dishes have been significantly more salty than in other restaurants. I have ordered scallops with corn and mash with chives. I believe not even a full scallop was served in a significant amount of corn for the size of the scallop and the mash was just…usual. The beef that my husband had was tender, but the sauce which came with it just covered the flavour of the meet since it was too spicy. Plus, the cauliflower served with the beef didn’t add any value to the course. The desserts were again not to the expectations (very sweet, but lacking true flavour and a good combination of textures). Please note this is not intended as a bad review, but more as a recommendation to maintain the high standard of the restaurant. P.S. There is no baby changing table in the restaurant, despite me announcing beforehand that we will be bringing our 3 month old baby.

Centrally located in Chester with multi story parking locally. Very smartly presented resaurant. Attentive staff in a relaxed atmosphere. All the courses were very well presented. The Lunch menu was resonably priced . Not the cheapest restaurant to dine at but well worth a visit if you like fine dining.

We booked a table for four on a Saturday night to celebrate my 60th birthday. We arrived on time and were immediately taken to our table. Service was great, we ordered cocktails to start which were served very quickly. Our orders were then taken and starters were with us in no time. Main courses followed in perfect time after we had finished. We then shared two deserts between us. All the food was exceptional and the service was faultless. I'd highly recommend this restaurant.
