The Cheese Plate in East Hertfordshire

I ordered a mixed cheese platter for 6-8 people to complement a wine tasting evening and it was incredible and came with some great tasting notes. We actually had 15 guests who all enjoyed cheeses! Very generous portions, lovely service and delicious selection. :) Thank you so much!

My partner & I visited The Cheese Plate for the first time last Friday, for one of their "Cheese & Wine" evenings. Toby, the owner, offered six different cheeses with six different wines, all of which were delicious. The evening was a lot of fun with Toby keeping us all entertained with a blend of his cheese knowledge and banter. There were two couples and one group of three ladies, so just seven guests in total. We returned today to purchase our favourite blue cheese. Highly recommended.

Nice Saturday afternoon lunch in the Cheese Plate in Buntingford. Great cheese. We had a lovely Croque Monsieur each, and greedily followed it up with a Cheese Platter for one that we shared. The cheesemonger was a very jolly chap with an array of terrible jokes. (That's a good thing). A little window table to enjoy your food, have a nice glass of wine and watch people go by. Will definitly be returning, hopefully with friends.

Absolutely superb... a mixed meat and cheese platter for 5... served with excellent wines, great humour and a lovely intimate atmosphere... Toby was informative and great company as our host.. The cheeses and meats were excellent... and followed up with superb gelato ice cream... Highly recommended

A great surprise from our daughter was a superb selection of English cheeses delivered to Braughing from Buntingford - an absolute delight.

Had a lovely impromptu lunch with some friends of mine at The Cheese Plate. Great selection plus a cheeky glass. Toby is a great host and really knows his cheeses!

Had an absolutely brilliant evening at The Cheese Plate, cannot recommend them enough for their cheese and wine events! We booked a private event for a group of ten and had such a great laugh, ate some delicious cheese and drank beautiful wine. Toby is such a fabulous host, nothing is too much trouble and his sense of humour really makes the evening. Can’t wait to come back again!

Cheesus has been born again! All hail Cheeus king of the ewes! I was recommended The Cheese Plate by my crazy jamaican friend, I rarely take his advice because Emmental. I was hosting a wine and cheese night as part of our annual Christmas festivicheese, Ok no more cheese puns! - I'll brie more serious because I camembert it any more, and then had cheese to supply for our family Christmas. I was a late in my organising but Hope at The Cheese Plate came to the rescue and put together a beautiful and varied spread with some perfect pairing advice. We had to mail order as live in Brighton, cheese arrived well packed and on-time. I'm now thinking for my next holiday Buntingford could be this Pilgrim's Choice. Communication from Hope was great throughout. Guest comment : "It's like every cheese is the best I've ever had" THANK YOU to Hope, Diane, Toby for creating the most talked about food of Christmas 2019.

What a great evening - Toby makes the whole event entertaining and informative, and gets all there involved with both the cheeses & wine, as well as chatting to the other guests who were previously strangers. This has become something of a regular event for us. Really can't recommend it enough! (And ignore anyone who says there is not enough cheese and/or wine - if anything, there is too much!)

What a great night. Totally out of our comfort zone, the experience was bought as a gift from our son. Not knowing what to expect we were delighted with the informal, friendly and informative evening. Cheeses were superb, wines excellent host exceptional. Highly recommend would make a great Christmas gift.

We recently visited the cheese plate with friends for a bespoke cheese & wine party. There was just 8 of us and our superb host Toby and his lovely assistant. The Cheese and wine were superb, we enjoyed 5 courses of different cheeses matched perfectly with different wines. Toby was a great host explaining briefly the legacy of the cheese and wine added with knowledge, perfectly professional and great humour.

Eight of us visited last night for a 2nd time (as we enjoyed the 1st so much) with Toby as our host. As usual Toby was jovial and informative about the wines and cheeses. The atmosphere was excellent as was the fare. These evenings are tasters and that is exactly what you get, with a private sitting in a cosy atmosphere. Well done Toby, we are already talking about coming back. The evening was all the better for us for not having any cheese/wine snobs involved.

Similarly to GPS2014, I have been a regular at The Cheese Plate for some time and this too was my first Cheese & Wine Tasting Evening. We were at the same night with GPS2014, but I couldn’t disagree more with his comments - we had such a great evening. Lovely cheese in good sized portions, tasty wine to accompany & even an ice cider to match a blue! Jovial host Toby put on a fun, educational & certainly good value for money evening and I can’t wait to return.

Have used this shop for quite some time and their cheese selection is first class. So went for one of their tasting evenings of cheese and matched wines. What a disappointment. A selection of various hard cheeses with just one soft cheese to finish. Nothing runny, nothing smelly, nothing unusual. Which was so strange given the stuff they sell on a day to day basis. Add to that, it really was tasters, just thin slivers. Nothing you could really get stuck into. The wine selection was OK, and some quite nice choices, but I was expecting something with a wow factor in both cheese and wine and neither delivered. Could not recommend it.

We worked with this local store to supply our wedding cake - instead of a traditional cake we had a stack of cheese wheels, beautifully decorated with fruit. The "cake" itself was a big attraction on the day, and it made for lovely evening food at our event. The cheese itself was absolutely delicious. The store has a wide range of cheeses available, both local to England and international, so we were not short of choice. We needed some cheddars, hard cheese to support the base of the cake and some soft cheeses for the higher tiers. I reached out to the store and worked directly with Hope, who was such a pleasure to work with. As we weren't able to go into the store for a tasting, she sent us a bunch of samples (at no additional cost) so we could make our decision. Through the entire process she was kind and thoughtful: on our wedding day she delivered the cheese herself and saved us delivery costs, as the venue was really close to her house. We are so utterly pleased both with the service and the quality of the products that The Cheese Plate Buntingford provided. We would highly recommend them to anyone, whether buying a wheel of brie, or a whole "cake" :)

The shop sells an extensive array of cheeses and items to accompany your choices. The host and staff are very welcoming. Many events take place giving an opportunity to eat in house which are very popular in the town. Well worth a visit.

In this day and age finding a specialist shop like this on a high street is a rare occurrence! I love cheese and live locally so I’m somewhat biased but this is a great shop. Knowledgeable staff with a clear passion for their product. You can taste before you buy. There is loads of choice so you can find your favourite or you can ask Toby for a recommendation. You can also buy biscuits, accompaniments and wine to compliment your cheese. You can sit inside or out and have a selection of cheeses with a drink of your choice. Toby also hosts cheese tasting evenings which are great. Try it. You won’t be disappointed.

Huge cheese selection and condiments from across the country . Toby the owner is extremely knowledgeable about all his produce and is more than happy to discuss your preference in tastes and give you samples to try before you buy .

My husband was given a voucher for a cheese and wine event here and although I only really am a "cheddar" person, I found it a thoroghly enjoyable evening. Toby is an excellent and knowledgeable host pairing wines and other alcoholic beverages with different cheeses and brings out some unusual flavours too! Would definitely recommend and have also bought the vouchers for other family and friends too!

Absolutely love it here, could have spent a fortune. Loads of beautiful cheeses, something for everyone. The staff were always friendly and patient when I asked to try the cheese. Thank you for having us!

Love our monthly cheese and wine tasting nights. Great chance to catch up with friends and Toby is very accomodating and knowledgeable about the cheeses on offer. We get a chance to try so many cheeses and wines we wouldnt normally. Highly reccomended!

Attended one of Cheese Plate’s cheese and wine nights and it was brilliant! Have always wanted to go and was not disappointed. Tony was a fabulous host, very welcoming and entertaining. Being passed as glass of Buck’s Fizz as soon as you walk in was a lovely way to start the night and there was a good selection of wine and cheeses to taste. Will definitely book again.

Had a delicious cheese fondue here. I can't wait to go back again for another one! This is ideal for cheese lovers.

Fantastic night led by Toby, we tried new and interesting cheeses paired with great wines. Very informative but not boring! Toby has a great sense of humour and kept the evening fun. I even won a prize! Well done it was a five star night.

A good old fashioned cheese shop with informed staff and really excellent choice. Well worth spending a few minutes here.

We love visiting The Cheese Plate in Buntingford, which is about a 30 minute drive away. Toby and all the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. The lunches there are wonderful and we have also attended one of the cheese and wine evenings which was a lot of fun - glad we got a taxi for that one!

Well... We had our 1st time at the cheese and wine evening last night and loved every single minute, Toby and Tara are so lovely and know there stuff, the cheese and wine combinations are second to none! Highly recommended and can't wait to go again.

Visited The Cheese Plate last Saturday for the cheese and wine evening. As a family of 10 we didn’t know what to expect but we was blown away by how good it was. Toby the owner was fantastic, made us all feel very welcome and had us all laughing from the start. Very fun and entertaining evening!! Would highly recommend!

My partner purchased a voucher for the cheese and wine evening as part of a surprise birthday present.... it was absolutely delightful.... everyone was made to feel welcome, the room was buzzing with laughter and happiness... totally delicious cheeses all washed down with perfectly chosen wine. Toby is really down to earth and fun to be around, whilst his knowledge of the cheese and wine is outstanding. Who would have thought you could describe a piece of cheese as starting out like a Werthers original....then tasting like a meaty stock cube.... and then with a small sip of the perfectly paired wine it was like a sticky toffee pudding....

A very special cheese shop. Knowledgeable and very funny host made our family lunch memorable. The cheese was divine and the iced cider was the perfect accompaniment. We came away with a bag of goodies and knowing that we will definitely be back!

I purchased a wine & cheese tasting evening at a charity golf event in aid of the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance.

Was taken here by a friend and really enjoyed the cheese platter and wine. Its one of those things that I dont have often enough yet after I have, I always think "why dont I do tis more often"!

A really fun evening. The cheese plate run cheese and wine tasting evening when you can try a variety of cheese and wine combinations. The hosts are amusing, appropriately cheesy and very knowledgeable.

All I can say is.....please god try the Welsh rarebit! Oh my goodness, it's divine! Cheese is so creamy and comes on crusty bread with home made chutney. Visit Toby and the gang.

My wife has had a cheese lunch here and she thoroughly recommends it.I have bought cheese from the wide selection for a birthday present which went down well.

Very very nice cheese shop in Buntingford. The servers are knowledgeable, friendly and very funny - especially Toby the owner. Its the kind of shop you go into for 2 pieces of cheese and come out with 7 pieces as Toby is very generous with his cheese tasting morsels. Have been here for a few cheese tasting nights which again were good fun and quite boozy. Shop also sells wine and lots of accompaniments for cheese. Highly recommend this place. The only thing I would suggest is that when the shop gets busy i.e nearer to Christmas is to get a queue-ticket machine system going - cos lots of people come into the shop and barge in and queue jump. Not at all British! :)

I arrived at a prestigious, well look after building. The Cheese was a bit smelly but what can I say. I brought my Tinder date here and she gave me a hand job under the table. That is why there maybe a sticky substance under the table. My tinder date was a right doodar and i found out later there was no toilets and she was actually having a "fun evening" in the back kitchen. Well that was a £60 that went to waste i don't want no sloppy seconds!!!!

Really enjoyed the cheese tasting (£30 per person). Great selection of cheeses that most people would like. Good fun and banter along the way. Great wine (not included but house wine only £3.50 per glass and good quality). Would highly recommend.

Even though I live a 30 min drive away I always try to pop in for an indulgent selection of cheeses . Toby the owner is always very knowledgable about his goods and very happy to let you taste before you buy . Treat yourself to a tasting plate with a glass of wine .

Delicious new dish on the menu at The Cheese Plate. Tunworth Cheese with honey, orange and black pepper cheese brulee - wow delicious! Served with tear and share crusty French bread for dipping in the hot, melted cheese - perfect!! ❤️

Visited with my dad when Toby invited us in after we had cleared up at the end of the classic car show! This place is amazing! All types of wonderful cheeses, chutneys and wine to try, great for a friends gathering ! A must see if you are in town, thanks Tobes!

A fab range of cheeses and an interesting menu for lunch. The do special events in the evening and the owner is friendly and also knowledgeable.

Had lunch in here, very nice indeed i must say. Although cheese based, i had a classic Raclette grill and my daughter a cheese board, nice and cosy a good place to watch the world go by, Coffee was of good quality, Well stocked of cheese from around the world, and some Artisan crackers & relishes

Spent a lovely 2 and a half hours learning about the process of making various cheeses,compared different flavours of same cheeses and how eating them with different biscuits or wine makes them taste completely different. Toby had a lot of cheesy jokes to tell too! Would recommend.

My eldest son was best Man for his best friends wedding and the bride wanted a cheese wedding cake. Go to The Cheese Plate in Buntingford. Toby is second to none, and you can try all cheeses and wine/beer and have exactly what you want. Toby's service is absolutely brilliant and he can't do enough for you. We have taken part in the cheese nights run at the Cheese Plate which are informative, entertaining and tasty! Great value and fun we went for a birthday treat the evenings are intimate and hosting is very relaxed and funny...Cheese and stand-up meet at the Cheese Plate!

Some of the best looked after cheese I have ever tasted, Toby has huge knowledge, skill and experience about all things cheese.

I love that we have this glorious cheese shop in our town.

If all you want is a piece of cheese do NOT go in this shop. Not only is it stocked with a huge collection of the most delicious, and interesting, cheeses, but it is staffed by helpful ladies who also know what they are talking about. They are managed by Toby, the real danger, with one small taster he pinpoints your taste in cheese and follows it with suggestions that, having tasted, you buy. They also sell complementary wines, pickles, crackers and accessories.

Aren't we lucky to have the country's 3rd best cheese shop on our High St? I try not to go in too often as a visit to buy one cheese gets very expensive as the proprietor, Toby, always says whilst you're here try this one as well and this one....etc. They are always delicious and I end up spending a small fortune and walk out with half a dozen varieties. Not only is he a great salesman, he is also highly knowledgeable on his subject.

My wife and I buy cheese from this amazing shop quite often, but attended a cheese and wine night last night and were blown away. The whole evening was entertaining and surpassed our expectations. Highly recommended.

Have visited this cheese shop a couple of times, staff are very helpful at helping you choose some wonderful cheeses from a massive variety. Also had the croque Monsieur here for a solo lunch with a glass of wine which was delicious. Perfect little place to visit for some extraordinary cheeses and if you have time stop for a bite to eat from the cheese dish menu! Yet to try the cheese tasting evenings but definitely will!

Toby put on a special event for couples - tables for two, a bottle of Prosecco and a single red rose for the lady.

An educational, fun filled evening eating cheese and tasting divine wines! I recommend you experience it for yourself! Brie, Stilton, cheddar and the list goes on and on. What best accompanies the different cheeses, which wines or beers to have with it; Where is originates from and hilarious stories to go with it! Toby is pure entertainment. An amazing evening! I give it my 100% recommendation.
