Amazing Sunday Dinner with Family. The mixed roast was excellent and the kids loved their special meal and ice cream. Service was excellent and the team couldn't do enough to ensure we had a relaxed Sunday lunch. The endless pots of Gravy and additional yorkshire puddings were a definite winner.

We dined here on a Sunday and had a roast dinner. We tried the chicken, lamb and beef - all so so tasty with all the trimmings. Service was fantastic and everything with a smile. We have two children (7 and 2) and felt completely comfortable with them here. Dog friendly too so the perfect place to spend a Sunday afternoon. Highly recommend.

Visited The Chappel last night with my family (13 of us) we had no booking, but despite being busy they found us a table. Everybody enjoyed their food. Waiter/barman was very friendly and helpful. Recently moved to Coggeshall so will most definitely be returning.

Visited for Sunday roast .. very helpful staff and service was excellent .. had roast beef and lamb between us all and both were delicious … if we had one observation we wld have loved home made Yorkshire’s with it instead of the ready done ones .. but otherwise a lovely lunch in a lovely setting with friends .. wld visit again!

We had an amazing roast dinner. Between us we tried the beef, lamb, pork and nut roast all 6 of us had an amazing meal. with plenty of food and great cauliflower cheese. Desserts were as good as the mains. We had fabulous service too All in all a great meal thanks

Honestly one of the best chicken burgers I've ever had... and that's a bold claim! Craig and the staff can't do enough for you, awesome selection of beers, top notch food and an all round cracking boozer. 10/10

After visiting Paycockes House we wandered into Coggeshall town looking for somewhere to have lunch and stumbled on the Chapel Inn - WOW the food and the service were second to none - great choice of drinks from the bar all served by the lovely Dan. We went to the chapel inn for lunch with our walking group . The staff were very helpful and friendly, they opened up early so we could use the toilet facilities before our walk. There were 15 of us and everyone enjoyed their meals. Thank you so much for your help. Pete and Chris.

I recently visited the Chapel having heard good things about it, I visited on Saturday lunchtime with my wife and 2 kids (5 & 3) we had a fantastic lunch!! There was a number of choices on the menu for adults and kids, the portions were generous and the quality was fantastic! Definitely try the burger and fish and chips!!! Will 100% be visiting again

Had been recommended to visit and didn’t leave disappointed. We took our 3 children and the range of food was outstanding and my son claimed the pizza to be the best he’d ever had! I was really pleased to see the staff following the COVID guidelines, I work in the industry so know what good looks like, and the staff were so attentive. The specials (had the Pork Chop) were simply fabulous and Brett (the chef) came to speak to us after the meal. Despite living 15 miles out of Coggeshall this will be our new ‘go to’ place. Loved it.

we stopped here before watching Coggeshall play football on a Sunday, we only had an hour there but it was fantasticthe beer was excellent, one of the best Timothy Taylor landlords i have add...the staff were fantastic and as soon as they spotted my sons Zac Brown T shirt they were talking country music all day!they also gave some lovely gifts when we told them we were CAMRA membersMy missus who is the worlds fussiest eater asked them how long for a roast and if the Beef would be well done.....to my absolute amazement she ate every bit and didn't send it back once! a first!will definitely be backthanks all

I've never felt the need to review places as I know everyone can have off days, but honestly this place has gone down in my opinion, the staff are so rude, always checking their phones, no social distancing even attempted between them. I ordered a pizza, and my husband ham egg and chips, the chips were like rock and so salty, the egg had all the clear stuff on it, wasn't cooked, I politely asked the waitress if we could have a new bowl of chips, to be told there was people waiting for the table, they wouldn't have time and I should eat what I had already! Honestly she was so rude, no apology or anything, I won't be returning, and not that attitude to have, such a shame as used to be such a nice pub.

I come here regularly as it’s my local and love it. Always greeted with a friendly face at door. They are following all covid guidelines to the letter. Making a big effort to still create a relaxing enjoyable place to eat or just sit and relax with a glass wine. We all need to support these small village pubs during this pandemic or they’ll be gone!

Fabulous local pub! My friend and I stayed in the White Hart round the corner (that’s another story altogether!) but we used The Chapel as our pub for a couple of wines before going for dinner each evening because it was the young staff were so welcoming and helpful. They went out of there way to recommend places for us to eat and treated us like locals! Definitely recommend it!

I get that covid has hit, but this place has really gone down hill. Its like a morgue, no atmosphere and feels like a youth club

Have visited a couple of times before in previous years, and the food has always been of a very high standard. Post lockdown there have had to be changes to the layout and rules, but while this obviously hurts the business in terms of capacity it makes the experience very personal. The menu currently is reduced, but all dishes ordered were excellent, particularly the Calamari, which is always a good leveller for any establishment. Staff and owner hugely friendly and it's clear that the re-opening has been carefully planned to return the Chapel to being the centre of the community. As I said excellent in every respect and well worth a visit.

Booked a table online it was nice and easy. Received a call back today to confirm if I was coming to eat and drinking and if I would prefer to sit in or outside. On arrival we were welcomed and had the organisation and pub layout explained to us. Which was clear and easy to understand. We were served promptly by a young team of very happy staff.The food we had was of great quality and very well presented we had salads as the weather was really extreme (hot) This is a very safe, very clean, well organised place to eat and I would highly recommend it and take advantage of the "eat in to help out" scheme this month.

As 'older people' in the vulnerable community we were very gratful for the new delivery service. The food arrived when Sophie said it would and piping hot We were able to use the menu on line, everything worked as it was supposed to, and the food was hot. Well done!!

Called in here for lunch and though we didnt exactly test the kitchen we were more than happy with what we had.My fish and chips was memorable for the crisp, light batter and the obvios freshness of the fish. I doubt if it had ever seen thee inside of a freezer. My wife enjoyed two slices of generously cut ham with egga and chips. As I say, not exactly demanding but it often the mark of a good kitchen that it does the most basic stuff to an excllent standard. It has certainly encouraged us to return when we have more time to sample some of the more complex offerings.

We had a very tasty lunch, mushroom Wellington was delicious, vegetables well cooked not overdone served on a really hot plate. My wife had scampi and chips, really nice chips and plenty scampi. No complaints at all. Was a cold day but the pub was on the cool side to be honest.

I took my mum for lunch at this pub/restaurant yesterday.The service we received was very good. The food was also very nice.But spoilt by the fact that the place is really cold.. The heating was on, but it was insufficient for such a large area.. Please do something to warm up your otherwise nice Venue.!!

Came here for lunch and found the ploughmans to be honest pub food, if a little dull. Beer excellent, but staff did not know what Chardonnay was. Settled for a Pinot Grigio.

We were passing through and wanted to find somewhere to stop for a light lunch. The pub had a few people dining which was a good sign, especially for a miserable rainy Monday. The young girl behind the bar was really helpful and welcoming. We sat in the area of the pub with the roaring open fire, it was so cosy. Initially I intended to have a sandwich or something light, but my eye was drawn to the locally sourced hand carved ham, egg and chips and my mind was made up. It was lovely, great quality ham and the chips were home made and cooked to perfection. I would definitely return as the menu had lots of delicious looking options to choose from.

This place consistently offers up top grub. Top drawer specials that always satisfies all our families taste buds!! Visited this sunday and have to say the place was packed out, and i can see why. Friendly service, backed up with beautiful well presented food. Have eaten the chefs food before in other establishments, and have never been disappointed. See you guys soon, keep up the good work

We went to the Chappel inn for breakfast. It opens at 9.30 on a Saturday. The menu is quite limited with no cereals or porridge. We therefore went with eggs and an omelette. There was a little wait for our food but when it arrived the food was decent with good portions.

Decided on this place at short notice. What a great choice. Ate here with my girlfriend for the first time and was really impressed. I had the Scallops for starter and found them cooked to perfection. The combination of parsnip puree and bacon was excellent. Some of the best I've had. For mains I had the sausage with mustard mash and gravy which was hot and fresh. My girlfriend had the chicken and chorizo hunters chicken which again was cooked beautifully. Both mains were good sized portions. Drinks were reasonably priced and the final bill was less than you'd pay at other establishments for less food. All in all a lovely evening and we'd definitely go back.

Chose this by recommendations on here. Another historic building, waitress took our order and got our food within about 10mins. Not bad at all and reasonably priced.

Went in with a friend for lunch. I had the posh fish finger wrap which was delicious with crispy fish fingers in wraps with tartare sauce and gorgeous chunky chips. Very filling and great value for money. My friend had the ham salad wrap and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. The decor is very nice too. I would definitely come back if I'm in the area again.

Had lunch here on a Friday. The staff were welcoming, we were shown to our table and drinks ordered. The restaurant area is adjacent to the bar, only separated by an open frame divider, so little difference between eating in the bar or the restaurant, and both use the same menu, but it was fairly quiet so made no difference to us. There was a lunch menu and a specials, with a decent choice between them We had nachos to share as starters, very fresh tasting and a good sized portion. For mains my ribs were nice, as were the sides. we also had the hunters chicken, although the tomato sauce it was in wasn't to our liking, maybe a personal taste thing. All in all, a good pub restaurant at reasonable prices.

The staff and manager are always friendly. They source local and fresh meat and fish. Nice to sit inside or out the back. Would definitely recommend The Chapel out of all the eateries/drinking establishments in Coggeshall

We arrived at 930am half way through a ride looking for breakfast and stumbled upon this gem. The staff could not have been more friendly and served up the best breakfast I have had in a long time . Great value and superb hosts. We'll be back

Came to this pub when we couldn't find anything we really wanted to eat elsewhere. Should have come here first! Very friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere - good choice of dishes on the menu and some interesting vegetarian options. We thoroughly enjoyed our dish of goats cheese and fig parcels with an excellent salad and tasty chips at a very reasonable cost. Will definitely return when next in the area.

We visited as 2 couples on a Saturday evening. It was relatively quiet but as it was a nice evening the majority of people were sat outside.

Always receive a warm welcome here, great staff and even better food. Ate the slow braised lamb shank, and my better half had a beef and pork mixed. Both agreed that this is the best roast dinner for miles and miles. Will have to pop in during the week, as the main menu and varied specials all sound great. This place has really leaped in quality over these past years, yummy

Great little pub. Excellent local beers and the food was equally good. Good choice for the three vegetarians in our group, while the one meat eater was more than satisfied. The staff were extremely friendly and courteous. Perhaps the only draw back was the fact that you have to eat within the pub itself and as a consequence it can be rather noisy. Nevertheless a local pub I would recommend to anyone in the area.

Excellent. First time we have visited and found everything, from start to finish, excellent. The warm welcome as we entered the pub was a nice start. The restaurant is very cosy and family friendly. It’s clean and spacious, well laid out. The service staff were all very professional, friendly and efficient without exception. Drinks were offered as soon as we were seated along with the menus. The menu is varied without being overwhelming. It’s clearly a home cooked from scratch Sunday roast, plentiful, hot and well presented. It came out quickly enough with a friendly waitress. We all ordered desserts and if there was to be any criticism it’s that the chocolate brownie is “too rich”! You have to be a real chocolate lover and maybe we were a little full!! Very delicious but very rich. Having said that how nice to see a simple dessert menu but everything home made and done well, empty plates on all the other desserts! So often a good meal can be spoilt by processed desserts. All in all would recommend as a great Sunday destination as well as a friendly pub for a strollers drink. Will recommend and revisit. Visited here a few times now. Good selection of beers, gins, etc. The bar is a good old fashioned English pub bar usually buzzing with locals. There are substantial areas to eat both formal and informal. The menu is traditional and excellent. Nice friendly local with good food. What more does one need?

We went to the Chapel Inn for a meal, and my goodness, we were not disappointed. I have absolutely wonderful fish and chips, probably the best I have ever had. The fish was fresh and moist - it had never seen the inside of a freezer. And the chips were smashing big ones, no messing about. My husband had a delicious steak pie, sourced from a local butcher. It was a great, simple dining experience.

Visited twice whilst staying in Coggeshall on Essex Way walk - first night was Saturday - very crowded - service very haphazard and at times quite aggressive - but food was very good - skate/steak both cooked extremely well - returned on Monday night when Chapel Inn was one of only two eating places open in Coggeshall (!) - much quieter - food equally good but staff much more attentive. Well worth visiting but chose your timing!

Was looking forward to last Sunday lunch here, ordered a pork baguette and turned out to be mainly gristle and fat. Wouldn’t consider going back again.

Four of us went for lunch and were warmly welcomed. The men were very impressed with the choice of draught beer on offer. There was a good choice on the specials menu and our meals came beautifully presented and were delicious - the swordfish was really succulent.
