White Hart in Braintree

Amazing overnight stay here. Luke was so friendly and everything about our time was lovely. The food at lunch and dinner were exceptional. The carrot & coriander soup was hot and delicious. We had a late checkout which meant we left really relaxed. Would highly recommend. We will be back for Sunday lunch soon!

The White Hart hosted our wedding on 21/09/24 it was a beautiful day. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were polite and friendly throughout the day and into the evening. The venue was perfect and our ceremony was held in the gardens under the gazebo we guided every step of the way. The food was amazing catering for vegetarians, gluten free, and pescatarian guests with no fuss. We took all of the rooms the venue had and all our guests enjoyed their stay no complaints. I can’t recommend them enough my wedding was just perfect! Thank White Hart Great job A*

A lovely pub serving decent quality food with friendly staff, let down by below average accommodation. This was one of the most uncomfortable overnight stays I’ve ever had, mainly due to the excessive heat. I stayed during a hot spell and with no air conditioning, windows that could only be opened slightly, and most annoyingly a broken ceiling fan, I got hardly any sleep, and at one point considered sleeping in the car park. Bathroom light was on a timed sensor which meant it kept going off whilst in the shower and also came on randomly during the night. Two other pet hates of mine in hotel rooms…no USB sockets and a fixed shower head. Breakfast was OK, but not the quality of our dinner the night before. If I’m in the area again I’d look elsewhere.

The whole experience was great! The staff were welcoming and helpful. We eat in the brasseire on our first evening and the food was superb with good quality produce locally sourced. I was even offered wine from a local vineyard and it was good. Breakfast was fab with a great range on offer but the omlettes were my particular favourites. The room was a good size and the bed was very comfortable. In the wet room, there was a lovely rainforest shower and the toiletries smelt delightful. I was impressed that a shower cap was provided and if you needed cottonbuds, well they were there too. The White Hert itself is very characterful complete with wooden beams and uneven walls. The grounds are beautiful and there is a country walk but we will have to do that on our next visit.

Had a lovely meal here last week, I haven’t been for a while but was just how I remembered. The service was excellent and very welcoming, food was professionally finished and very good and the wine list is very good with some lovely wines at a good price. Will be going back - A thank you to the team there!!

Lovely olde world pub. Staff all extremely helpful. Disappointed with my meal. I ordered the burger and chips. When served I honestly thought I'd been given a child's meal. I counted twelve chips accompanying a very small burger and bun ( and it'scertainly not the cheapest pub burgerI've had ) . For dessert the apple crumble and custard portion size was also disappointing. Thankfully the kebab shop was still open on the journey home.

We have just had a wonderful Sunday lunch there. The service was excellent despite the young age of the staff, who were very well trained and professional. The food was marvelous and arrived promptly.

Having experienced some appalling meals in the local area having moved here, we decided to explore and came about the White Hart, firstly what a stunning building, with some beautiful historical features and oozing with character. The staff were all very young (which did cause a little concern at first) but they are an absolute tribute to themselves and the hiring manager. They were immaculately dressed and very polite and professional. Now on to the food…….. we weren’t staving, so we only had a main course, the the roast dinner was hot, fresh, well presented and tasted amazing, the warm bread roll was a nice touch on arrival too. This was our first time at the White Hart, but I think we have just found our new “go too”

The White Hart was a beautiful location, with good furnishing, and was very warm and inviting. The music played over the speakers set a positive mood also. The service was perfect; the servers were all polite and friendly and the service was efficient. Both the main course and the dessert were delectable and incredibly well-presented. The main course burger was an exactly satisfactory size, accompanied by well-cooked crunchy chips and sweet condiments. The dessert was a little small, but as is often the expectation for a high-end restaurant. However, the taste was still very sweet and pleasing. The only reason I was dissatisfied was because of the lack of diverse options on the menu. I was accompanied on my visit by a member of my family who is a strict vegetarian, who was disappointed to see that there was only one vegetarian main course option on the menu (a mushroom risotto) - especially since mushrooms are not to her taste. I would have preferred to see more vegetarian meals on the menu, especially since both me and another family member agreed that even those of us who enjoy meat also like to eat vegetarian or vegan food from time to time. In summary, a very nice restaurant with delicious food delivered by friendly servers. Our experience could only have been improved by adding more vegetarian and vegan items to the menu.

Visited today to celebrate my daughter’s Birthdays, food was really good as always. However this time we were seated in the bar area, much prefer the seating/atmosphere in the restaurant area. We will definitely come back, but only if we can guarantee a table in the other area.

We were very disappointed with our visit to The White Hart last night. We had been looking forward to going because our previous visits had been positive. The first disappointment was having to sit in the bar area for our meal rather than the restaurant. If the food had been good, then that wouldn't have been an issue. However, the food wasn't great. I went for the scallops as I love seafood, when the starter arrived I had 2 smallish scallops on the plate, and at £13.95 that was a liberty. It had some orange mushy substance on the plate, which had no taste whatsoever. I then opted for the ribeye as that was the only steak on the menu, and it was so salty, I like food to be seasoned but this was seasoned to much. Overall a disappointing night from a restaurant that is usually very good.

What a wonderful meal we had,my beef melted as I ate it. Here with a group of friends. Great disco. AND it was warm, so many restaurants are cold. My only criticism is your young staff need to watch the room. We did a lot of arm waving to get service

We were a large party, there for our Christmas ‘do’ and all had a fabulous time. We were hosted in the rear addition to the venue, and they did a superb job, looking after our large party, as well as other groups who were also booked in. The food was superb, the staff were attentive and friendly, and the DJ got everyone up and dancing after the meal. If I have to put a negative, it was that the Christmas music playing before and during the meal was just a little too loud, so we had to shout to each other to have our conversations, but other than that, it was a great evening, and we won’t hesitate to book again next year.

Went here for Christmas dinner, food could have been warmer, and as it was from the festive menu where were the crackers, cranberry sauce, bread sauce and a few candles would have made it easier to see what we were eating.

Another great meal, fantastic service, amazing food and wonderful atmosphere. This is our go to for Sunday lunch with family.

We had a lovely lunch here on a quiet Friday, we both had fish and chips and I had the apple and rhubarb crumble for dessert. The food was absolutely spot on, the staff were all very friendly and helpful and I couldn’t fault anything about our visit. Thank you and we’ll definitely see you again soon!

We have tried many times to book a two night stay at this popular pub without success. So we stayed nearby and settled for a very nice dinner in the White Hart instead. It is a popular wedding venue, hence the difficulty in booking a stay.

Yet another wonderful evening at the White Hart. This is without doubt our favourite place to eat. We have been going for around twenty years and it has never disappointed.

Staff are professional and friendly. Rooms located in another building seperate to the pub. Beautiful bedding and towels, toiletries provided. The room was dark and impossible to do hair and make up in the bedroom, v low windows with rather heavy fixed blinds on them. Bathroom was nice but only waterfall shower, extremely slippery floor when wet but a mat is provided, Over bed head fan not working, no chain to start it, maybe it had been pulled off. Second fan was working so some relief from the very hot night, Staff at breakfast were lovely but cooked breakfast was dry and the toast was like a damp squidge, coffee and orange juice was very good. Over all a very good price at just under £100 for the booking. Food on website looked good and the pub is traditional.

We went for a chilled evening. Had a few drinks which were fine. Felt peckish and ordered a portion of large chips. Wasn’t told there was only one size! When they arrived they were in a small tapas plate. I asked the waitress if these were the large as it was smaller than a typical child’s portion. She offered to bring a few more. When we went to pay we were charged £9.95 for the 2 portions. We were gobsmacked! Not only that out of three staff only the young blond girl was friendly. The others were miserable and not at all approachable. Ridiculous and overpriced

The White Hart is a privately owned 16th century inn. Everything about it was outstanding. Our suite was large but not overly so, very comfortable super king size bed and a full wet room with shower and bath. The low beams in the bar were challenging for the taller people but fortunately, we were able to avoid cracking heads. The food in the restaurant was excellent and there was no chance of going hungry! All these good things would be fine but the crowning glory was the excellence of the staff. Amy and Bradley were brilliant - very efficient and personable and running the bar and restaurant to perfection. Staff like that are so impressive. A lovely stay

Just had my wedding here and what to write this review to let people know that this place is amazing. From start to finish the staff couldn't do enough not just for me and the wife but for everyone. Both my parents are disabled and the accommodation at the venue was perfect. The staff worked hard to make sure everything was correct and everyone was having a great time. Food at the wedding - Wow..... we went for the lamb and we've had had nothing but complements about the quality and quantity of food. Breakfast in the morning was cooked to perfection and arrived promptly. Hotel room we're clean, spacious and well presented. Wedding venue was just perfect; the grounds are well kept, and the converted barn offers a mezzanine floor which really opens up the space. If you are looking for a place to get married I really would recommend this venue. 👌

Very poor from this place. Extremely slow service, food was trying to be something special but ended up lacking in flavour. I had the cheeseburger which I could've got better from Jenny’s which is in Haverhill. Also, the chips had been pre-cooked and redunked to heat them back through. My partner has the scallops which came on a pea puree, she said that the pea puree had no flavour and was grainy. It was meant to be a date night with the potential of holding our wedding there. But, now we've agreed that it's not the location for us.

We just had our gorgeous wedding at The White Hart. From start to finish the team we're brilliant! We had such an amazing day getting ready on the premises, getting married in the Barn and then partying the day and evening away. We stayed in the Bridal suite and it was perfect! We couldnt have asked for a better venue!

We had use of the function room for an 80th birthday event with an evening meal and breakfast in the morning. The function room was set out perfect and all staff were very attentive to every ones needs. The evening meal and breakfast were delicious. The accommodation was very comfortable and clean and decorated to a high standard. Thankyou to all your staff who made this a very memorable occasion. No hesitation in recommending this venue.

Comfortable room staff moved us to another when television wasn’t working. Excellent evening meal , local ingredients quick service and well presented. Surprised by breakfast experience, cups without saucers, expected to make tea with tea bag in cup.two variety packs of cereal and a couple of bruised bananas does not count as cold buffet, cooked breakfast okay could have been warmer.

Regularly visited the White Hart prior to it hosting weddings. Always loved the building and today on a whim returned. The team at the White Hart really went the extra mile. They haven't reopened after lockdown yet, but on learning that we were unable to reschedule our wedding for anywhere else, they opened especially for us in late July. We obviously had an extremely limited number of guests from our two households only, but it was incredible that the venue did everything possible to make it special.The food was fantastic, the service was great. If one considers that the venue had to order the ingredients because of how they had been closed, they made some effort.I really hope this venue is able to recover and thrive after lockdown. They made our day really special.

I visited the White Hart, for a family birthday Most of our party opted for the:Duo of roast topside of beef & roast pork loin, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and gravy£11.95 (see photo) it also comes with seasonal vegetables on the side and if you can’t go without stuffing you can buy this as a side dish The meal was tasty, the meat was cooked to perfection.Atmosphere was sophisticated & cosy, we had a long table with plenty of room between us and the next table, felt home from home.With alcoholic drinks, 5 side dishes, coffees and meal for 6 adults total cost was £159 which in my books is great value for money. Highly recommend eating or drinking here. Staff were attentive but not intrusive.

Recently had dinner at The White Hart. Zach the chef that was on that evening cooked chicken supreme, chicken stuffed with brie and wrapped in bacon with dauphinoise potato with mushroom sauce followed by mixed berry pavlova. I have to say this food is just out of this world, the flavours were just mouth watering and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend this place to eat

Cannot fault this place one bit. Fab staff that are extremely helpful and attentive. Also fab food would recommend to anybody, a great time always had by myself my husband and our friends.

We have been to eat a few times here, 1st time back in August and food was superb, then booked to eat on Christmas Day and again 5* service and food, Tony and abi are front of house and could not be more welcoming if they tried, nothing is ever too much trouble, they tweeked a couple of things off the menu to accommodate our needs. We then came for a birthday meal end of January and again the food and service was 5* they even accommodated the food to suit my “Keto” diet. Love love love the white Hart to the point we won’t eat anywhere else now as no one else is at The White Hart standard.Tony, Abi and the staff are what makes that place what it is and as long as they are there we will keep coming ♥️
