My first visit last weekend as we were passing through on our way back from holiday. I was welcomed like a local. The host Michelle, was very friendly and introduced us to a brand new menu they had. Good timing I guess. I'm quite a fussy eater but they had no problem accommodating my requests. Lovely place to eat and have a few. I hope to pass by again.

Quality food & generous portions, lovely surroundings, good sized car park and beer garden. Definitely the place for a pre match meal/drink before a visit to Braintree FC. Friendly staff and away from the hectic roads, much required after the queues on the M25 !

We come to Green Dragon about once a month. It is friendly and welcoming the staff, we had Tash and Mel were both excellent, food was very good and we both enjoyed it.

Very nice meal, we had the lamb and chicken pie, both very tasty. Puddings delicious to. Great service from Michelle, food served quickly and hot, lovely visit. £2 fosters drink promotion on at the moment too!

Once seated in the lovely dining area we were immediately told by Michelle what was unavailable on the menu and told that there was a special offer on Fosters Lager (£2 per pint). The drinks arrived swiftly and we ordered fish & chips, Lasagne & Chips and chicken & fries. Ordinary pub grub ... portion sizes were varied... fish not very large.. chicken absolutely fine... lasagne sadly burnt and not a large portion.. each meal approximately £12. Michelle asked if there were any problems and once made aware of the burnt lasagne took it away straight away to be replaced. The food wasn't great to be honest... edible for sure but I'm not sure I'd recommend the dishes we had to anyone. Again Michelle was great and very attentive quickly clearing the plates once we'd finished before asking if we'd like desserts... which was declined before Michelle offered a free dessert for the issue over the lasagne.. which was then accepted (Strawberry Cheesecake and Ice Cream) which apparently was lovely. Throughout the meal Michelle was attentive... informative.. smiley... approachable and efficient... nothing was too much trouble. The reason for the score of 4 is because whilst Michelle was definitely worthy of a 5....the food was very nondescript. When paying was informed that the Lasagne had been comped as well as the dessert. Thank you Michelle... if the food had matched your service I would have scored it SIX out of five.

Not good. Food bland and meat over cooked to the point of being hard and dry. Probably the worst Sunday lunch I’ve had.

Not a bad little place went here for Sunday lunch nice food unfortunately one of the meals was very cold staff was very good at handling it took it back to the kitchen reheated it but by the time it came back we had all finished our meals will go back and give them another try

Great, friendly country pub with incredible food. Had a warm welcome as soon as I arrived and was seated quickly with great professional service. The food arrived quickly and the rumours were true….. it was mouth watering!! Every bite brought a big smile to my face. Good prices too. Highly recommend.

Such a lovely time Michelle and yolly served us .today marks the 100 year anniversary of the Caesar salad and to my surprise it was there on the menu and it was delightful and very flavorful and you could you tell it was fresh and homemade! (Will have again) the staff are so kind every time we are there and make us feel apart of the community here. I can't thank the lady's who served us. They asked about how we are and remember us every time we come in it's so lovely to have friendly faces when you are out for dinner will definitely be back and can't recommend enough.

Great pub for drinks and good food

I popped in for a quick bite to eat and was pleasantly surprised. The food was tasty and filling, and the staff were bubbly and welcoming. I'll definitely return.

Edit: Visited again yesterday (15/06/24) and superb service again from Sky this time. Definitely recommend! Very pleasant experience. Food was very good and the gentleman who was looking after us, Stephen, was lovely and very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal. Thank you very much 😊

I was very disappointed with my meal I have been before and it was always good but Sunday meal was very poor the chairs and tables are not a very good standard and the car park has more pot hole that are very dangerous plus the outside of the pub was not very clean I will not be going again one thing what was good was the wine that we had

Worse Roast dinner we have ever had the unfortunate sorry experience of attempting to eat! Trio Roast- Beef was poorly cooked a like chewing on rubber, Roast potatoes black on the inside potentially mouldy. Turkey was OK. Pork was chewy also. Literally 2 carrot, 2 of the tiniest parsnip. Stuffing was like a cricket ball. A piece of crackle that was probably the best bit, No the Gravy jug was best. Needed something to wash down this poor excuse for a roast! Not worth £16.99 each for sure. Staff didn't even both to come see how it was....Wonder if they knew it was terrible! Seriously poor! Should've gone to Astronoma they do better Roast without having a chef!

This was our 2nd visit to the Green Dragon, but this time with extended family, and overall very impressed. Nice relaxed atmosphere in a traditional pub restaurant. Service was excellent, and the menu plenty of choice. Food was lovely, and my first try of a non alcoholic Guiness left me amazed....I could barely taste the difference! (Thanks to server for recommendation) If I 'scrape the barrel' for improvements, my medium rare steak was definitely rare, but i also like it this way and enjoyed it a lot! Overall, great meal!

Lovely pub/restaurant me and the family (including the dog) had a really lovely meal here, food was delicious, staff were super friendly, helpful and a real laugh, atmosphere was very relaxed (the kids felt at home) highly recommend and will enjoy another evening out here soon. Prices are fair, can have a lovely meal without breaking the bank! Family friendly and dog friendly too!

2 visits in 3 days, shows how much I enjoyed the food. Sirloin was lush. Highly recommended.

Was passing by after being out with our toddler who needed some lunch and like most toddlers has little patience. The lady behind the bar, Michelle, greeted us and informed us there was a 30 minute wait on food prior to us putting in our order. We decided to order anyway and risk the wrath of our almost 2 year old. She seated us in a little snug to ourselves and got some colouring items for our little boy to keep him occupied. The food came much quicker than expected (I suspect due to a helpful word from our server) and it was really tasty. Drinks were well priced with a pleasant spritz menu of options which I enjoyed. Anyone who tries to go out for lunch with active young children know it can be the opposite of relaxing and we really appreciated the consideration of Michelle today and it made our experience. Would thoroughly recommend this lovely pub and we will certainly be back.

Found the Green Dragon in January and have been there four times since then. I have been served by Michelle & Cobi who are very attentive. The food is good and the whole experience makes for a lovely time.

An amazing spot for lunch and a catch up with friends. Special shout out to our servers Cobi and Tash they made the day perfect for us. Definitely will be back soon!

I’ll tell you what. Steve the gaffer here might look like a pirate. But he’s as decent as the day is young. If you could create a pub landlord in a test tube. Steve is who you would make. morals stronger than his beard (which is epic) and runs an excellent pub. Team are obviously well trained and he personally made sure my beer was good? He used to be a brewer and it shows how much he cares about the beer he’s serving. Long May his reign continue.

Having previously visited and having a good meal, although previous was a mid week business lunch of fish and chips. We booked to take our mum for a birthday sunday roast. On arriving we were greeted warmly by our waitresses, however the barman was not exactly grumpy but not far off. The Waitresses were fantastic, superb service. The meals themselves were bland. Veg and potatoes just undercooked. So ok but for us not going to be a repeat visit.

We were a large party of 16. We all pre-ordered our menu choices, and the meals were all very nice and came as we asked for them. Our waiting staff, Cobi and Michelle made sure we all had everything we needed, and were great with the children in our party. This is the second time our family have chosen the venue for a big family get-together and we have been pleased with all aspects of the visit each time. Thank you

we went for sunday early dinner as we were in the area, can’t fault the service or food but a few things were not available which was a little off putting, having said that the pub had a lovely warm feeling and would visit again.

Visited here as a group of 8 for their Sunday Menu. On first impression we were surprised it wasn’t busy at all, we later found out why! We had to pre order due to a big group. When we sat down they bought out the mains instead of starters, so had to take mains back. When everyone had finished starters the mains came out and we were so disappointed with them. The roast beef was over cooked and not pink at all, potatoes not crispy and looked anaemic. Veg very soft and overdone. 2 of us had the chicken is baskets which was so tough and dry, we were pretty sure they had just been kept warm due to their earlier mistake as even the salad was warm. Mac and Cheese lovely. Hunters chicken was overdone, the bacon was very very hard. Salmon was meant to come with a poached egg but it was hard boiled. When we expressed our thoughts during the meal, one of the lady’s laughed at us? When I asked if the meals had been kept warm she interrupted me and immediately said no and walked off. The ONLY good thing about our meal here was the lovely waitress (tall lady dark hair) who actually listened to us. She was very polite and attentive and apologetic. Don’t let the pictures fool you, unfortunately the food is a big let down. We’ve been here before and loved it so unsure how the quality of food has changed so much? Hoping it picks back up as it is lovely inside with a big car park as well which is great!

Been here a few times in the last month, and this evening we went to celebrate a birthday and the food was the worst we have ever had, kids pizza rock hard, hunters chicken overcooked stuck to the dish, chicken in a basket just tasted greasy…. Awful food all cooked for far too long…. Wouldn’t mind but the restaurant was dead!! The only good thing was the lady serving us. Hate writing bad reviews but why have prices gone up but quality gone down??

Not sure what's going on here lately. Booked a table for 3pm. Walked in and only one other table of about 6 ladies eating. Waitress seemed to almost be unsure where to seat us, despite every other table being empty. Service was slow. Presume staffing issues or similar, just wasn't how it was a year or so ago when staff were chatty and friendly etc. Food was alright... seems to not be as good as it once was. A real shame as this used to be a favourite local, now we prefer Prince Louis. Far better service and staff are much more attentive and make small talk. Maybe back in the summer, see if it improves. Disappointing.

If I could give a star I would. I was so disappointed for the third time and held off giving a review. Not only do the premises look bad, I thought I would give them a chance. I placed an order online and when I went to collect my order, a rampage over the telephone was taking place as the wrong delivery order had been given to a client. The man in the takeaway was arguing with the person on the phone, then apologised and started on another member of staff advising them to go and collect the incorrect order. All I wanted to do was pick up my orders. I waited patiently only to find my order was on the floor waiting for me to collect 15 minutes later.

Had a great evening out here. I know Michelle our lovely waitress and server from her days at the astronomer down the road and she was as great as we remembered. Nothing ever too much trouble and so welcoming. The food was lovely. Lamb shank...

Disappointing visit unfortunately. Felt uncomfortable on arrival as was greeted with 'so you're my 5.15'? by an unhappy member of staff eating their dinner. A friendly lady did then come over and show us to our table. On ordering was then told one of the choices was unavailable, would have been better to been advised when given the menus. 5 mins after ordering we were then told that they had run out of the second choice as well. 3 roasts ordered was unappetising, undercooked veg, reheated roast potatoes which were awful, tough meat and sad looking veg. The burger was the worst my son said he has ever had. The one meal that looked and went down well was the fish and chips. Not attentive to the table when they weren't we busy and we were the only ones there, having to go and find someone to order drinks and then to ask for the bill. On leaving we were completely ignored by the same member of staff who gave us the awful greeting. Really sad as we used to enjoy coming here for family meals.

Lovely lunch good choices and very tasty Skye our server was lovely and will be going back again. We didn't have Sunday roast but what we chose was good
