This is a local pub for us and we have eaten in, and taken takeaway. The staff are great, the food is really good, proper pub grub, but the main reason for this review is the takeaway fish and chips. It really is a fantastic meal, honestly leaves the well known precinct fish and chip bar in local Halstead standing. Grease does not exist in this meal and the fish is very tasty. Fantastic, and highly recommended. Check out their special early fish and chips between 6pm and 9pm. Great value.

If you want an amazing meal, with great staff, in a lovely country settings then the Victory Inn is the place to go. We went for a Sunday roast today (with starters and desert) and all plates went back clean! Every meal was tasty and came out piping hot. They is also a lot of it. 😁 Highly recommend the Creamed Mushrooms, Big Boy roast as the Eton Mess but all meals are great.

Sun was shining so the large garden at the front was perfect. Not the cheapest but the food is well prepared and tasted nice. The sizzler meals are very tasty, but one one occasion came with vegetables mixed in, another occasion not. Maybe a delivery issue. Some nice beers on tap. Dogs welcome in the bar and the garden

We had been to the Victory inn , a few years back now. But we had travelled up from Debon to visit family. And booked lunch for Saturday. From the moment we arrived the welcome and friendly smiles .from the staff was excellent. Then the food came out. And I must say . This was the best pub /restaurant food I have had in many a year. Absolutely outstanding. From starter to dessert. Hats off to all at the Victory inn . We will certainly be returning.

Our first time here in over 20 years… really enjoyed our lunch with friends, to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Some of us chose from the over-60s menu (what an inspired idea, good selection & very reasonably priced), one had a vegan main, one from the lunch menu. Food was served pretty quickly, piping hot, fresh veg and crisp salad, very generous portions. We managed desserts, too - all very delicious! Very happy with the service, the prices, the portions, the food quality, the setting! (Just one thing: the ladies loo cubicles are a bit tight… ).

Sadly this was a really bad experience - absolutely awful meal. My liver, bubble & squeak was so enormous it immediately put me off. The bubble & squeak was completely tasteless. We left the Victory today having not been served two couples and a table of 8 were seated after us. The lady behind the bar then served 3 tables and several people at the bar before us, dispite us trying to attact her attention. After almost quarter of hour waiting it became clear to us that if you are local or know to the only member of staff you definitely get priority service. We duly informed her we were leaving. I know in this day and age it is a problem with staff shortages and Covid but if you haven't got the staff don’t take the bookings. We left very disappointed and based on our very poor experience would not recommend and we would not be returning.

The landlord said that we were more than welcome to eat in the 'snug bar' area, which has sofas and small lower tables. We accepted his offer and the seating was fine. We both ordered traditional Sunday lunch, mine was the veggie option (no meat), my husband had beef and pork, the food was very good, good selection of vegetables, lovely crispy roast potatoes, good portion sizes, served piping hot, which is a rarity these days. We didn't really have room for pudding but after much deliberation I ordered sticky toffee pudding and my husband ordered apple crumble, mmm delicious both of them. Prices comparable with other pub/restaurants in the area. It is a shame that this pub has only the one person who tends the bar, waits on and clear the tables. We waited nearly an hour for our meal and I suspect there is only one person in the kitchen. If you visited this place more than once you would loose the will to live. It is a shame because the food was not bad. The owner must have no business acumen. The young man who was doing everything was rushing all over the place, but trying to take care of over 30 people on your own would be beyond anybody

A young man had to cover the bar, take food orders and then wait on customers. He said they were not usually busy on Tuesday lunchtimes. The boss was in the building we understand but why was he not helping this young man who was run off his feet with not a word of complaint. Hence we had to wait nearly an hour for our lunch to reach us. We felt very sorry for him.

Called in mid week to have their over sixties meal. Excellent value, good food and plenty of it. Meal was quickly served in very pleasant surroundings and with no rush. Lovely pub in a very lovely village with amenities such as the an award winning farm shop together with it's own restaurant, self picking and a well stocked country shop

I took my Husband for a treat at the Victory Inn, he had the traditional Sunday lunch which was ok nothing special, I had gammon with chips. All I can say is it seemed to be a place where everyone knew everyone, very expensive meals, not very comfortable seating, wouldn't be my first choice of restaurant to visit again. Has nice seating outside, nice for children if they don't order meals.

Visited last week on a Wednesday for lunch and was left feeling a little disappointed. I had the Pan Fried Lamb’s Liver with bubble & squeak, pancetta crisps and a red onion & merlot jus, which was nice but the lamb was very overcooked/hard and the bacon was very, very salty. My aunt had Black Tiger Prawns simmered in tomato concasse, cream and coriander/basmati rice. She said it was ok but not as good/tasty as the food normally is at this pub. We also had a rather long wait for the food, maybe due to it being a popular day for the seniors. Shame.

We happened to be in the area and found this pub via trip advisor. The ratings are well justified. Excellent service and great quality of food. Nice outdoor seats overlooking a cricket field. Great place for kids to run around. In terms of improvements, service time was very slow and the apple crumble was not the best. But starters and mains (squid, crab, scampi, cottage pie, kids meals) were all great. And Nikki was wonderful in looking after us.

Hadn't booked but wasn't a problem .It was a beautiful day so got quite busy and the lady manageress rushed doing the bar and serving inside and out . Didn't detract from the service or the lovely food. Recommend the smaller lunch as they serve delicious desserts. We shall be returning very soon

My husband and I travelling back to Suffolk on the end May bank holiday Sunday and wanted some lunch, nothing looked appealing so we followed the sign for The Victory, it was sunny, cricket being played on the village Green and The Victory front garden over looking The Green. First impressions were how welcoming the landlord and all of the staff, very quick to assure us they could feed us what we wanted and couldn't do more for us, but it was genuine friendliness. We had baguettes and chips which were very delicious and could see full meals passing that looked very good. Lots of locals that were equally friendly towards outsiders and the landlord continued to check ok and have a joke and banter with all. Excellent find ... please visit to keep rural pubs going we will certainly be back.
