Five star service. Lovely grounds. Our bedroom was a tad small but had everything we needed plus a little extra like the bottled water. We will certainly use this hotel again when visiting our family.

We chose The Chantry as we were visiting our daughter who lives nearby and we would rather not stay in a large, chain hotel so this suited us perfectly. We arrived early after a good drive up from Kent but were welcomed immediately and told our room was ready. We were in room 5 which was small but with all the amenities we needed for a 1 night stay. An amazingly well-stocked tea tray with biscuits, various teas and coffees, hot chocolate and hand wipes. I have to say, the bed was super comfy and, after a spot of lunch at a nearby pub, my husband and I fell sound asleep! You have to fill in your breakfast choices the night before and we both opted for a full English with fruit juices, tea and coffee. We were not disappointed - it was freshly cooked, delicious and plentiful. Thankyou for a lovely night's stay and, if we are up that way again, we will certainly rebook.

We were so happy with our 1 night stay. Such a peaceful place to stay and the personal attention and kindness shown to us was just amazing. Really friendly staff, and the person in charge went beyond the call of duty to make sure we were well looked after during our stay. Loved the ambience , enjoyed all the extra touches in the room. Already planning our next visit to The Chantry.

I went to the Chantey for a few days to see family who live in Dronfield. I was totally underwhelmed. I was there for 3 nights and not once was my bathroom cleaned. I was given a key let myself on if i got back late in the evening. I had to use it twice in the mid afternoon! Not very welcoming all locked up with no one around and when used the third time for a late evening +- 10pm the lack of suitable lighting inside outside the building was dangerous. There were no other guests for the early part of my stay, despite it being September Then we swelled to 4 more guests!! There was no mention of food i.e. lunch options for guests and when I asked my (very nice) waitress she said they didn't do lunches only Sunday Lunch. That was a pity as it was my intention to 'host' my family to a meal or two, which I did but somewhere else with a welcoming vibe. How can you call a place a HOTEL with none of the options one usually would expect. There was sign on the front step saying 'Wake Receptions Catered for ' It should do well it has the right ambiance. The ladies (staff) however were very nice. For this experience I paid £150 a night - and it still hurts

I booked for a mid morning breakfast for Saturday 9th March as an early Mother’s Day treat .On booking I asked if they could accommodate a pram as my daughter had recently had a baby . I was told yes that was not a problem. We arrived to find steps up to the door so carried the pram to the door it only opened slightly so couldn’t get pram through, the young lady was very helpful and we went through the kitchen were the manager told me to wipe the wheels. It was a total farce we were seated in the conservatory again no way to get the pram in . , ended up having to leave as was not offered a seat in the empty restaurant. This was a normal size pram with a 1 month old so couldn’t leave outside .

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I have visited the Chantry before on several occasions, once with my husband and a few times with former colleagues who use it as a meeting place for a get together lunch now and again. It is a lovely hotel, kept spotlessly clean, but unfortunately my recent visit was disappointing due to the standard of the food which was served to us. On my previous visits I have always opted for a Panini and have been more than happy with my choice. On the latest visit I decided to join my husband with the 2 Course Set Lunch option. Bad mistake. We both ordered the same. Tomato Soup to start with, and a main course of Beetroot & Butternut Squash Wellington with vegetables. Soup was tinned and lukewarm. The carrots with the main course were tinned, broccoli and cauliflower were frozen, and I suspect the Wellington was also frozen and bought in from somewhere. It was so HOT in the middle, possibly left in a microwave for too long? All in all, considering the price was £18.50 for two courses, I feel that for the £37.00 total which we paid the standard should have been much higher. We thought it was strange when we arrived as there was no-one else there, other than staff. Table was booked for 12.30 and we left at 1.45 and during that time no sign of any other customers at all. Obviously, people are not in a hurry to return. I will be returning in the future when I meet up with my former colleagues as it is a convenient place for us all, but will be sticking with the Paninis. I doubt whether husband will ever wish to return, unless the food vastly improves. I do wish you luck for the future as it is such a lovely hotel, it just needs the food issue sorting out.

Have been here previously and has been good, but went for a christmas dinner at lunchtime, chose turkey, and it was virtually inedible, it was lumps of gristle, yorkshire pudding was soggy and vegetables poor. Christmas pudding was cold in middle. Other members of our party said same. Told waitress who told manager who just came out to hear our complaints but didn’t do anything about it, was £28 for 2 courses and was terrible-avoid at all costs!

We had lunch in the conservatory which looks out onto the large garden which even in winter was really nice. The staff are amongst the most welcoming and friendly people you could ask for. The food was great and nicely presented. I'm still waxing lyrical about their wonderful mashed potato which were delicious and some of the best I think I've ever had. The other components of my meal were good but the potato was great. This restaurant is one I would recommend. Whilst it was quiet when we went I would book in advance as I understand it gets quite busy.

Delicious food and always great beer here. The staff are lovely and the buildings are beautifully kept both inside and out. Outside, there's a nice beer garden and a covered wooden decked area which is lovely on a summer's evening with the "Crooked Spire" of Chesterfield visible in the distance. The log burner makes the inside toasty in the colder months and the low ceilings, oak beams and pretty lighting create a lovely atmosphere. The Blue Bell Inn is definitely worth a visit.
