The Chalet in Newport

After several days of hotel breakfast we decided to stop in here on our way out of town. Breakfast was as expected. The portions were large. Service was good. One difference from other breakfast places is you could get a piece of coffee cake instead of toast or biscuit with your meal and it was quite good. I ended up bringing it home because I was already too full after eating the other parts of my meal.

So glad we stopped at Chalet Restaurant and Bakery when we were in town. This is a nicely decorated and very clean restaurant. The service was wonderful. The food was fresh and homemade. My husband and I each had the $14 lunch special: Half a sandwich from a selection, a cup of soup (or salad), and a piece of pie. It was a great deal and the food was tasty. We each had our sandwiches on sourdough bread, which was thick and fresh. And the pieces of pie were big. I had coconut cream and it was wonderful. My husband had peanut butter chocolate - also very good. If we were going to be in the area longer, we would have returned.

I ordered steak and shrimp. The steak arrived with an awful smell, so I didn't eat it. I paid and left. I won't be back. I was very disappointed. They knew that whatever they served wasn't a steak but a cheap piece of meat—old meat.

Stopped here for breakfast. The atmosphere is nice. The staff is very friendly and service was excellent. The food was my favorite of the trip, with good portions. Don't forget to get a piece of pie or cake to go. You won't regret it.

Very family-friendly restaurant with a warm and welcoming staff. We were a three-generation party of five, and there was something on the menu for everyone. The food came quickly and was delicious. We had amazing marionberry hazelnut waffles, a bacon waffle loaded with bacon, pancake egg and bacon from the kids menu, and clam strips. Make sure to save room for some delicious pie or cake!

This restaurant came highly recommended by the staff at the motel where we stayed, and boy were they right! Really good food at a VERY good price, top-notch and attentive servers, fast service and a very nice ambience. My husband got the Swedish pancakes, which came with a ton of lingonberries, not the expected sprinkling, just as one example. I would have to struggle to come up with anything negative to say about them -- the only thing I can say is I wish they opened earlier. 8:00 is late for many people, but well worth the wait. Run, don't walk there!

Eggs Benedict? NOT! So, I hate leaving low rating reviews. But there are times when it's necessary. This morning I met a friend at the Chalet. I ordered Eggs Benedict. Now, in my 65 years, I've ordered this as a breakfast choice all over the world. It's usually always the same for "standard" benedict....poached eggs, atop Canadian bacon, on an english muffin, with Hollandaise sauce. What did I get at Chalet? 2 over easy eggs on top of deli sliced ham; yes there was an english muffin, but the Hollandaise sauce barely covered the eggs. Without a doubt the worst Eggs Benedict I've ever had.

Excellent place for lunch, good service we have driven past this place for 30 years we have been visiting the coast. We now regret not stopping in sooner!!!!! And the carrot cake was out of this world.

Most excellent place for breakfast, we ate there two days in a row. First day we had the blueberry hazelnut pancakes and they were divine. Day two we had the sunrise special, a standard breakfast. Staff was attentive and friendly.

Salad dressing was runny and did not provide that zing. Seafood dishes was no better with zero flavor. The only thing that tasted good in here was bread.

My wife and I stopped to buy 2 Marion berry pies based upon a local resident recommendation. In addition to the 2 marionberry pies I also bought a lemon cream pie. I was the best I have ever had. I wish they were located where I live because I would buy their pies on a regular basis. I did not try any food from their menu so I cant say much about that, but if it is as good as the pies then it probably is pretty good.

After a few days of eating fried fish and chowders, we were ready for a hearty healthier dinner. The Chalet met our needs. The service and food was very good. I had the pot roast, it was almost as good as mom's. The corn bread, yummy! The hubby's steak was good, cooked as requested. The portions were large. We both required a box to go. We ordered a piece of cake to go, to enjoy later in the evening. It too was very yummy!

Honestly we went there because they have pie. We ordered a couple omelets and they brought out huge, fluffy biscuits before. The service was excellent and the food was great. Looking at the menu we initially thought the prices were a little high but, you get a LOT of good food for the price. I never got to the pie. After some of the other service in the area, The Chalet was great!

My husband and I had breakfast at Chalet and we were delighted with both the food and the friendly service. Afterward I checked out the bakery and their selection of homemade pies was also a welcome site from the grocery store selections. I would highly recommend Chalet.

when in Newport recently my daughter and I ate at the chalet Restaurant and Bakery, we had steak, baked potatoes and soup. very very good.

Went to this restaurant twice (lunch and breakfast) while visiting Newport. Food was great. Service was good inspite of the fact that they were very very busy. Prices were reasonable for portion size. Will be a favorite when in Newport.

We were there for breakfast. Service was quick and efficient. Almost on the too attentive side, but quick and efficient. Food is good and plenty.

When we stay at the coast this is our go-to place for breakfast. The variety is terrific and I have tried at least a dozen of their breakfasts. Served hot and with satisfying portions. I am especially fond of their hot orange cranberry muffins. We pass right beside their bakery of yummies but after breakfast we never seem to want anything else, but it all looks delicious. The service is friendly and efficient and unlike some restaurants they do allow some substitutions.

Prices are very reasonable, kids menu is extensive and cheap. Food is good, servers are friendly and we stop here anytime we drive through Newport.

We were directed to the Chalet by locals during a quick coast trip. We all had breakfast and it was a solid, good meal. It wasn't amazing, but pretty good. The biscuits are great and the syrup is awesome. Hash browns average, eggs Benedict maybe a touch above average. The food was delivered very fast. We will go again but recognize it was $55 before tip for breakfast food and no dessert.

We were from out of town and decided to try this place. We went for breakfast. It was good food, hot and fresh. Had a cinnamon roll and their bakery is great. Omelettes were great. Our waitress was fantastic. We had everything we needed and she was busy. Our class and cup was never dry. We would come again when we are in Newport.

My husband and I were tired of fish that is the main stay of most restaurants in the area (and I can't eat fast food) so we happily went to the Chalet for their turkey dinner and were not disappointed. The staff were friendly. The food was good (especially the side of vegetables I ordered). Prices were reasonable. We returned for lunch the next day and were reseated without a problem when I found one area too close to the fans. I had the three cheese grilled cheese sandwich. It was wonderful. The fries were great. My husband had the open face turkey sandwich with gravy. Said he couldn't eat it all but ended up cleaning the plate. This is a good family restaurant.

Ate here 3 times on our 4 day vacation. Great staff. Fast and friendly. Food was incredible. Homemade and holy cow the desserts!!

This place may look a bit dated but we had an excellent breakfast there (pecan pancakes to die for) and the service was great too. Food was cooked quick and to perfection and they kept the coffee cups filled without us having to ask. We would definately recommend this place and plan to go back next time we are on the coast.

Friendly staff, the food is great. Prices are very reasonable. The crab benedict is fantastic, it's what brings me there for every breakfast during our stay, I miss it already. All of the years that we've dined there, they seem to have most of the same staff there.

I had a cup of chowder and chicken pot pie. Both just OK - kind of bland for my taste. Also had salad that was very crisp and fresh. Husband had GF ham and turkey sandwich and states he would recommend it as good. French fries good.

La comida estaba bien pero no era lo suficientemente bueno para una segunda visita. Repuesto de tí y a comer a otro sitio, entonces dejar aquí y recoger algunos tarta ir porque su pastel es bastante buena.

Pasamos una semana muy agradable en Newport, a pesar de la lluvia, y visitamos Chalet en tres ocasiones diferentes. La primera vez que tuve el sandwich caliente carne asada, muy sabroso. La patata era real (a diferencia de algunos lugares donde sabe como el puré es directamente de un paquete) y la carne y la salsa justo. En una posterior visita que tenía el pastel de pot de pollo, que era bastante bueno, especialmente la repostería. Una cosa está muy bien Chalet tiene pastelería y, en verdad, es el pastel que recordará y que es muy probable que te traigan de regreso.

We ate at dinner time at the Chalet, but we all ordered breakfast. Big servings and good food. Happy to eat the leftovers the next morning.

This place has awesome food and down home atmosphere and outstanding customer service. This place gets packed out but if you have the time I assure you that you will not regret waiting. You will leave filled and happy.

Big portions of great food! Staff was prompt and attentive on a busy Wine Festival Sunday. Bacon and hash browns were crisp perfection. Blueberry coffee cake was AWESOME!

These folks know how to make a great omelet. You have a choice of toast, muffin, or coffee cake. Don't just get the toast, the muffins and coffee cake are awesome. The service is very good and the wait time is shorter than expected.

Visitaremos el Chalet cada vez que haga un viaje a Newport a 1 - 2 veces al año. Nunca hemos sido decepcionados con el chalet! ! La comida siempre es deliciosa y el servicio es muy cálido y cordial. !

Un momento de la parada de improviso para el almuerzo, y tuvimos mucha suerte. No teníamos ni idea de lo que estábamos en para, hasta que vimos la organización para comer el domingo. Cada uno tenía un medio sándwich en el almuerzo con sopa de pescado. Mientras que la sopa estaba lleno de almejas, fue un poco demasiado salada. Pero, la pieza de limón merengue pastel para el postre. . Casi tan buena como mi madre usaba para hacer, y eso es decir los volúmenes.

My husband and I stopped for breakfast during a mid-wimter vacation. The food tasted great, and the portions were huge. This place seemed like a local favorite; we were seated next to a group of local friends meeting up for breakfast and coffee.

For me just good and sorry not one of the better places (anymore) the desserts a very good. Service was usually okay, but the food is hit or miss.

I used to think this place was pretty good. I made the mistake of having lunch there recently where I was ignored at the front door by a very rude server with a chip on her shoulder. Someone else finally seated me, but unfortunately in her section. I was very specific in my food ordering, and somehow the food still was prepared wrong. She got it corrected but was not at all apologetic. Never returned, never checked on me, not even a water refill. Extremely dissatisfied and will never return. I have 16 years in the hospitality industry and this waitress would NEVER work for me !

Though you'll usually have to wait for a table, it's worth the wait. Delicious home made food, family friendly. Our favorite place to eat in Newport.

We were unsure of where to eat, and I had heard about this place for breakfast but we were starving around dinner time and thought we'd try it. It was great! Staff was very nice and food was reasonable.

Very good local type place. We had breakfast here one day which was good for the price. The staff was very friendly and service was very good. The bakery items looked great but I resisted the temptation and didn't try any of them.

Highly recommend the roasted turkey dinner with fresh cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes and cornbread. The bakery has many choice's from pie to cake to just about anything to satisfy your sweet tooth. I recommend the chocolate creme pie.

This restaurant was recommended by a friend and the hotel staff as to where the locals eat. We had 5 of our meals there while we were in town. Highly recommended. Service was excellent and the food was like home.

For families or people who just love pancakes and pastries like biscuits,pecan rolls and the like, you can't beat this place. The hazelnut pancakes are outstanding. It's hard not to order them every time we go in. On the Oregon coast,it's a must.

Later lunch was great time for breakfast. Ordered basics and all was very good. Clean place and friendly staff. Only wished I had room to try several pies - they looked awesome.

If you're like me, and missing all the goodies due to gluten intolerances, then you've found your happy place in Chalet! I had gluten-free pancakes, WITH strawberries and fresh whipped cream (because why not?! When its been ages since your last pancake, live it up!!)

This place is one worth returning to on every visit. Old style family restaurant with good food and amazing desserts. Friendly atmosphere where the owners actually run the place. The biscuits are awesome!

Really enjoyed our server, definitely added to the dinner. Food was OK, but nothing exceptional. Prices were fine for the quality of the dinner and desert. Got a couple of cinnamon rolls for breakfast the next day and they were pretty good.

Crab omelette, pancakes, octoberfest sausage were all great. Make sure you get the coffee cake. The pies and cakes in the display looked really good, but we didn't get any.

We had some hangry kids in the car. We pulled over and lucked out. They serve breakfast all day and have a large menu. Kids were happy, parents were happy. Thank you Chalet!

Awesome grilled cheese! Had black bottom pie for dessert, it was tasty! Waitress was very attentive and manager was hands on getting drinks and seating guests. Will visit again when I'm in the area next.

We ate lunch at the Chalet and were very impressed. The food was excellent and the desserts were amazing. I would eat here again if ever in the area.

We found this wonderful place as we travel up and down the coast. Great, fresh and abundant food. Don't stop at any chain style. This is wonderful! Amazing baked goods such as cakes, pies and gluten free, too. Enjoy!
