The Rib Smokehouse and Grill in Newport

Annoys me so much when places call themselves BBQ or smokehouse and they represent nothing of the sort. Everything on the menu looks like a bland pub meal. Everything comes with bread or chips. A real BBQ restaurant would allow meat only options. Allow you to order slices of brisket, ribs, sausage or even wings on their own!

Great service and a lovely meal. Thanks to the staff for making the occasion very special.

Staff are amazing food is amazing

Had afternoon tea, which was better than what you'd expect..it included little buns with pulled pork rather than a tiny sandwich. Excellent at catering for any food intolerance.

Well I've got to say considering this is supposed to be a quality Hotel/Restaurant it's like a kindergarten. Kids running around screaming and shouting with the parents or staff allowing it. Customer's allowed to go into the restaurant in shorts & trainers, It's like a nasty holiday camp. I'll be spending my money elsewhere in future , It's like a holiday camp now , No class or quality.

Chicken burger - Dry, overpriced burger. A piece of fried chicken in bread with no sauce or moisture at all within it. Slow service even though staff are nice.

We went to The Rib & Smokehouse last night to celebrate my sons passing out. We were looked after by Agna & Gabi who were absolutely excellent. Beautiful food and excellent customer service. Thank you

Avoid!!!!! Quality of food: Calamari- coating/batter was nice (apart from that not fresh and rubbery) Pork rib- some parts were soft but majority fat and chew Bread not toasted Wine glass sticky/chipped Highly recommend other restaurants which have better quality food and taste! Waitress was attentive and offered alternatives

Staff were friendly. Front of house very much so and very polite. Food was tasty and big portions. Smells lovely when your first walk in too, definitely made us hungry!

Excellent service, and excellent atmosphere; as it was part of the hotel, we experienced live music too which was added to the special occasion. I was although disappointed with the food - I ordered the sirloin steak and it lacked flavour for the price. I also had the sticky toffee pudding for desert and it wasn’t anything special either. The restaurant is very well decorated but I wouldn’t be back for the food.

Food was good but service and setting was awful. Slow, dirty toilets, adult urinating by the entrance. No control over the families in there felt sorry for anyone staying there! Not the Boxing Day meal we expected or experience from Celtic manor resorts!

Alot of management walking round in suits doing naff all! Food was “ok” fish was dry and we waited almost an hour for drinks and had to keep chasing them! Female Managers in black not friendly at all! Waitresses lovely and I felt sorry for them their managers were useless! Leaving the waitresses to do everything and I have no idea why there is a terrible singer in reception 🙄 when you are busy everyone mucks in - not here it’s like a hierarchy of management !!!! Awful service! And don’t blame the waitresses they don’t cook the food or serve at the bar!!!!!!!

A very welcoming and a relaxed atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. We look forward to our next visit.

The Smoked Chicken was a delight !

Very slow service. Tried numerous time to get the one staff members attention to order but final got the supervisor. Shrimp not cooked and had to be re done. I would have liked another drink and desert but staff were no where to be seen so left. It’s my first time here and so disappointing. I have breakfast booked in the morning but will give it a miss if tonight is anything to go by.

2023 Came here to celebrate our 34th Anniversary. Looking forward to a meal that represents Celtic Manor Resorts. We had a lovely drink in their peaceful and relaxing bar. Moved into the restaurant for Sunday Lunch, where we were greeted by a congratulations card and a glass of bubbly - very nice touch. Sadly it was only downhill from there. I chose a chicken terrine, my husband chose Butternut Squash Rissoto. His was lovely, my chicken terrine was served partially frozen. We complained but chose not to be served a replacement. This was followed by roast beef and roast lamb for myself. White roasted potato which had barely seen the oven accompanied by green beans, broccoli, parsnips and carrots. You needed a heavy duty saw to cut through both the beans and broccoli. We do like veg to be slightly al dente but this was shockingly under cooked. The waiters were badly trained, to the point that they were unable to identify where table number one was. The wine glass was so stuck to the tray that the poor waiter had to ask for assistance to remove it so that he was able to serve. What I can only assume was the head waiter avoided us like the plague when he realised we were unhappy. Agne, was the only person to deal with us, and whilst apologetic she didn’t have much autonomy to overly change our bill to reflect our disappointment. Instead she blamed our experience on the fact that the head chef was not in. Forgive me, the head chefs team should be able to function without him during service. Sadly the toilets were also messy and unkept for a resort of this nature. Following our visit we took a taxi home, and the driver told us that he never picks up happy customers from this venue. I have literally had better at a Toby Carvery. Very disappointed ☹️

Fabulous Sunday lunch. Great value, very generous portions but most importantly, very tasty. The staff were professional and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. A great addition to the Celtic Manor collection.

made the right choice for 70th birthday meal, best roast dinner iv had in a long time.

Had the beef rib (sizeable cut of very fatty beef offered up next to a rib bone) the special rib sauce wasn't very nice seemed very artificial. Cut what meat i could out and left the fat and when asking for a to go bag to take what was left (pretty much all of it) to give to the dog seeing as it was very pricey and didn't want to waste it, they said they had a no doggy bag policy, honestly have had better beef rib from harvesters and would rather spoons over this and if I was looking to spend that much somewhere rather spend it in a Miller and Carter or similar. Felt like it was fancy food prices for food that would even disappoint at weather spoons. Would rather put my money into a local freehouse pub or quality restaurant. Wouldn't go back again and would rather a teco meal deal over this.

So after wanting to come here for so long myself and family was very disappointed, We waited ages to be served even though we was the 3rd table in there and no others at this point. Members of staff just stood around talking paying no intrest in the customers, We waited about half an hour just for a jug of water to be placed down, this should be done as soon as someone has sat at the table! The food when we finally ordered was shocking so little food for the price, lots of onions to fill the plate and on another dish lots of peppers to make the dishes look more full! When they say come with chips and slaw it’s red cabbage and vinegar The dessert I had witch was sticky toffee pudding again took ages to come after we ordered had the most smallest amount of custard ever! Wasn’t enough for the slice that was given. We did book for a birthday in November witch we have now cancelled due to slow service, long waiting for food even though it was quite and disappointing sizes for the price of the food! Better off going to McDonald’s across the road! Amanda was the only good part about the steakhouse she’s a credit to you! The only member of staff who wasn’t stood talking and the only one genuinely doing some work!

We were staying nearby at the Celtic manor hotel but chose to head to the rib for dinner using a gift dining experience we had. This included a 3 course meal for 3 but we also had our 2 children come to. We all love the cosy feel and friendly atmosphere at the rib. It feels special but also homely and a nice place to be as a family. Our server Faith was very friendly and looked after us all well. My daughter was very impressed to learn she is studying maths as this is her favourite subject. We wish her every success with her studies- thank you for looking after us so well! The food was all very nice with a good choice and we were all very full and happy! We will definitely be back in the future.

Lovely afternoon tea, nice to have something a bit original instead of the usual sad sandwiches! Not often that I am equally impressed by the sweet and savoury offerings! Service was warm and friendly, and the setting is really comfortable and modern.

I ordered a chicken burger and I've never seen anything so thin. They must have started with the smallest breast of chicken and battered it thin like a steak. I'm honestly talking three mil thick at best. I left starving. Service was friendly, but inattentive. Had to rubber neck for staff and it wasn't even busy. Usual large bill for the privilege. In summary, everything that's poor about the British dining experience. No worse than most places, but a let down for the Celtic Manor brand.

Went to celebrate Father’s Day however was left extremely disappointed. My husband ordered a cider it arrived as a lager. Not a big issue as they changed it straight away. Waiter took our order of one beef and lamb and a child’s meal. Food came within about 20mins which we were thought looked amazing. Took one bite and both meals were very cold. We told the waiter who took the plates back. We were then served another dinner that was warm but then we had to ask for fresh veg which I thought was odd as the veg had been on the table for 10 mins and was already cold. My husband lamb was disgusting it was just a plate of fat. Veg was very undercooked so much so you couldn’t cut the broccoli. Yorkshire pudding was rock hard so my husband complained to the waiter. While they took the food of the bill we left feeling very disappointed a special day had be ruined. We have been here many times and this has to be one of the worse meals we have ever had. We won’t be retuning due to this experience.

Would not recommend the ribs they were dry chewy and fatty the lamb was ok flavour wise but not a lot for £30 maybe try something else if you’re there.

We were extremely disappointed in the quality of the food. I started the night looking forward to a tasty 3 course meal as I alway have had with other restaurants part of the Celtic manor but The starters were a tale of 2 half’s my wife’s she loved but my soup was bland and was only helped after adding salt from The table. The mains though were poor, my full rack of ribs were dry and chewy with a lot of fat that was difficult to eat. And my wife’s lamb was ok and she liked the flavour but the cuts she had left barely any meat after cutting around bone and fat she was left with not a lot for £30. all in all we couldn’t wait for the check and to leave I’m normally always a dessert person but after them ribs I didn’t want to try anything else. Would not recommend and we Will definitely not be back.

Love the atmosphere, really nice subtle lighting for a romantic night. Staff were super friendly but there was one let down. We booked a table for 2 at 20:15, we were shown to our table and all was great. Amy was our server for the night but sadly we were let down because although we were seated 15 minutes before another table they were served before us. We also had a baby in toe which made it extremely difficult for us as she was already out of routine. I took it upon myself to go and get drinks from the bar as I got fed up with waiting. Just got married so this was our honeymoon and my newly wife was stressed at the thought we hadn't been served. When the food did come out if was great and the staff couldn't do enough. I will say that £15.95 is extremely expensive for a camembert with 2 pieces of french stick. To add we also had breakfast included in our stay which was very pleasant. The hot food was a little stale and left too long but the variety was fantastic. Such a nice choice so plenty of other things if that isn't your option. Would still recommend based on the fact that in conclusion the food was decent and the staff are very hospitable

Claims to be open, the sign Infront of the restaurant says it's closed until Feb. Wasted my time and fuel getting here.

The Sunday 3 course menu here is beautiful. The beef was some of the best I have had on a roast dinner. And the portions are large as well as perfectly cooked. Service was a little slow at one point and we were forgotten for a while after our starters though a round of drinks was given to rectify this. Everyone was polite and a nice atmosphere. Will be visiting again.

Had the full rack of pork ribs, outrageously huge & cooked to perfection! All the sides were great too. Attentive, professional staff. Would definitely recommend

Looks like a bbq joint. Food and service hotel standard. Not a criticism as such but don't expect blues and ridiculous food. Bit steep considering the above.

Popped in here as staying at the Celtic Manor resort, burgers were very good and the service and recommendations from LLOYD (our server) were as good as his customer service!

Considering the cost the food was very disappointing indeed. Ribs were very dry and clearly overcooked and left. The rack of lamb for £33 was poor. Undercooked and badly presented. We will not be returning.

Disappointed. The price of the food and the slow service did not make for an enjoyable experience or represent good value, although every team member we encountered was friendly. Couldn't understand the price difference for some items from what was advertised online to what was printed on the menu we received (new menu that week apparently)

Delicious food, lots of vegetarian options and not the really boring vegetarian options you usually get in a grill/steakhouse restaurant.

Service good (ish), food bad, like very bad. Like someone commented, the fries were ok. Truffle Mac and cheese, no truffle, no flavour, fresh truffle or truffle oil. Am sure advertising that as ‘truffle’ is a violation of trading standards. The burger wasn’t great, £15.50 for a frozen burger… very bad. I am fearful for breakfast and tomorrows dinner. I am hoping I can use the £20 dinner allowance on alcohol and go to the McDonalds over the road for food.

Vey bad service cant give zero so give one

I was pleasantly surprised by this place, hotel grub is hit and miss but the food here was great. I had the plant based burger and it was lovely. I've marked it down 1 star as I thought the drinks were pretty expensive. 40 notes for a bottle of wine was a bit steep in my opinion but overall I thought it was a decent place to grab some food.

Wings are bomb but haven't tried anything else yet. Keep you posted

Not impressed at all for a Celtic Manor associated restaurant. Went for valentines and the food was really underwhelming. Our starter didnt come out till after our main which meant waiting a long time for the food. The starter was then cold and by the time we finished it our mains which were brought out before were then themselves starting to cool. The cocktail for the price was a bit of a joke given it was basically just pineapple juice with a dash of vodka. We left before getting to dessert as the meal had been so disappointing to that point. I asked for the starter to be taken off the bill, which they did, but I would have expected that to have been offered without me needing to ask.

Food was absolute trash. We complained and they refused to take any of the food off of the bill. DO NOT GO HERE!

Amazing restaurant highly recommended to visit book though to avoid missing out. Excellent staff 👏

Lovely restaurant, great food with a great vegetarian options. Service from Jasmine was excellent.

Had dinner here last night with my son. He ordered the beef ribs - when it arrived it was the least appealing and appetising meal I had ever ordered in a restaurant - was very disappointing. I ordered the pork ribs which was fine but the fact that my son’s meal was so disappointing ruined our whole evening. The bill arrived with the ‘optional’ 10% already added ….. in my opinion this is totally unacceptable.

The Rib Smokehouse restaurant was so gorgeous inside. We had great service from start to finish. The food was outstanding. I recommend the Steak - bloody gorgeous. Service was fab and well be going back. Thank you for making it a lush evening.

Great food, good prices. I had a lovely birthday meal here with my family. The decor was stylish and the fireplaces were lit. Food took a little while to arrive but it was worth it. Beautifully cooked. Easy to park with ground floor parking free for 3 hours. Star missing because they could have probably had one more waiting staff member. But don't let that put you off going.

Service was poor, waited along time to be served. Food was bland and chips were covered in spicy seasoning. Breakfast also was poor. Food was cold and fruit wasn't fresh. Waited 40 minutes for the bill. Will not be eating here!

Really disappointed that I could not use a monetary value voucher today which I had as a gift. Had poor advice when booking about voucher use. Front at house not intrested in helping at all.

Outstanding!! I took my 3 young children there for an afternoon tea with santa. The food was amazing and very well thought out. The whole experience was fantastic. Stunning surroundings, friendly staff, great coffee, beautiful hot chocolate for the children and all of the food was very, very tasty. I almost ordered an extra tea to take home because it was so tasty and there was quite a bit left over for us to take home to enjoy.

Friendly staff polite and professional comfortable good selection of various cooked breakfast items ,also continental items pastries fresh fruit yogurts etc thoroughly enjoyed many thanks.

Jambalaya was covered in cream. I have never had a jambalaya with cream in before. It didn't work! Squid starter was lovely. Staff very helpful. Shame about the main course just too sickly and wet to be a proper jambalaya.

We had a wonderful time in the Rib Smokehouse. The food was great and both my wife and I enjoyed every mouth full. The service was excellent and the staff a credit to the company. Would highly recommend that you visit and experience the whole thing. Would do it again.

Now a part of the Celtic manor I expected more to be honest. Good food but average service and very little communication between the staff and the customer. Had to wait 35 mins for any food to come out and still don't know if any of the food for afternoon tea was dairy free as requested on our booking. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Superb food, ambience and service. Booked for Sunday lunch with Mrs. After reading a number of negative reviews about hotel I was a little worried however the standard of the restaurant was spot on. Upon arrival secure clean car park which was well signposted. Very short walk to the car which could be difficult for the infirm. Reception/greet was easy to identify friendly and we were efficiently and promptly show to table. Waitress Introduced herself as Sally, and outlined drinks. Good to see Tiny Rebel Cwtch on tap, local beer and delicious. Mains - beef and pork both perfect all hot and fresh, cooked well and excellent quality. Fantastic. Puddings - lemon tart and cherry bakewell again perfection. All in all 2 course Sunday lunch for 2 with drinks came to £51. Excellent value for the quality and will not hesitate to eat here again. Special mention to Sally. Fantastic service all round. She was engaging, efficient, knowledgeable and smart I would employ her in an instant. We particularly liked the way that when we asked for the bill she politely advised no problem, I will just help table 7 then I'm all yours. Thats the way to set expectations and communicate clearly rather than ignore eye contact as some restaurants do.

A haven in a pretty dire hotel. We had dinner both nights we were there and it's this I am posting about The food was excellent as was the service from our young friendly waiting staff. The restaurant is open plan so the ambience is spoiled by large tables of all male golfers and their noise bleeding into the other areas.

The Smokehouse has an interesting and varied menu and all the dishes we had were very well prepared and presented. Service was friendly but there was a lot of noise from all a large number of male groups.

Very average. The meat is not smoked, so I'm not sure why they call it a smoke house....mine was kinda tough with way too much butt run poured on and I'd say baked for too long. The bbq sauce was overly sweet. The staff were friendly and nice.

Breakfast really good....menu and food we were offered POOR ...choice, quality and warmth...it was only a group of 24 and we werent given the opportunity to enjoy the experience, though happy to take a huge amount of money over the bar....a free drink was certainly not enough to stop me commenting honestly.

A very good Sunday lunch, but didn't stand up to the expectations of being a part of the Celtic Manor resort (with pricing the same as the Olive Tree).

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime to use Afternoon Tea vouchers purchased as an Xmas present. We had chosen the Savoury afternoon tea which was very nice
