The Chai Room in North Hertfordshire

Attended a networking event this morning and what a lovely private space upstairs, lovely seating and decor 👍I enjoyed an Earl Grey and all the other ladies enjoyed hot drinks! I’ll be back to try the cake 🍰

My daughter saw the Chai Room during a recent trip into Letchworth and was very excited at the prospect of boba tea. We walked in (there were only a few people in there at the time, waiting for their orders), but no-one at the counter acknowledged us - rather, they just continued prepping orders and chatting to each other. I am a firm believer in a basic level of customer service, so told my daughter we would leave in another minute if no-one spoke to us. After another minute, someone finally made eye contact and took my daughter's order with limited interaction and conversation. £5 for a boba tea - pricey I thought, but it must surely be good. 20 minutes later, after numerous staff walked past us, up stairs, putting drinks on others' tables, with no update such as, "sorry about the wait", my daughter got handed a hot boba tea (in a plastic cup!) with 3 ice cubs dunked in it - presumably to cool it down. Again, no apology about the delay, or "hope you enjoy it" It tasted vile! The 3 ice cubes quickly melted into the hot liquid and instead, my daughter had a cup of luke-warm nothing - the bubbles just collected at the bottom of the cup in a gloopy, luke-warm lump. Appreciating this place is a relatively new business, however, most importantly, customers make a conscious choice to walk through your door for an enjoyable experience, and to spend money, and should be made welcome, as a basic courtesy. If the product you are offering customers isn't of the standard you know it should be - you shouldn't serve it without expecting negative feedback. £5 is a lot of money to a teenager. Consequently, we won't be revisiting.
