Indian Royal Letchworth in North Hertfordshire

The meal was amazing and absolutely delicious, all at a very reasonable price. The service was lovely and attentive. The only downside was that the restaurant was a bit quiet as there weren’t many people dining, but overall it was a great experience.

Called in on a Saturday evening on the off chance they had a table, they were busy but said to call back in half an hour which was fine for us. Went back and was given a table. We were left sitting for a good 10 mins and ignored. The waiter then brought napkins and cutlery and literally threw the napkins at each of us. I was so shocked it took me a few minutes to figure out what happened. We sat for another 5 minutes and were continued to be ignored. At this point we decided to leave and informed the staff that their customer service was appalling. Excuse was they were busy.. which is no excuse for throwing napkins at us. It was quite obvious they had no interest in serving another group at 8:30pm and did what they could into get us to leave so they could knock off early. Will never go back.

Had a wonderful meal here on Saturday evening. Food was great. Value outstanding. Can highly recommend the special biriani, so tasty and fresh. Will definitely be back.

Came here for the first time yesterday for a meal with the family. Lovely food! Poppadoms served with a range of fresh dips. Sheekh keebabs for starters were delicious. We were all happy with our choice of curries for mains. Excellent service and friendly service. Thank you - we will some again!

We came here for a meal on Wednesday, the food was really good and the service was excellent, would definitely recommend.

We arrived without a booking and it was very busy but we were able to get a table. The food was lovely as usual but the poor waiter was on his own. He was greeting people, taking orders, doing drinks, serving, redressing the tables and clearing. I felt bad for him but it didn’t affect our experience.

This is the second time we’ve visited this restaurant, we came down from The Wirral, to visit my daughter, her partner and our two grandsons, my daughter very last minute decided to rescue my wife and I from a curry in Spoons, she quite spontaneously decided we deserved a better, a curry in the The Indian Royal, god love her. We started by ordering poppadoms and dips, lovely fresh crispy, no complaints, then we ordered the starters and mains, I had Mixed Kebabs, followed by Lamb Tikka Jalfrezy with Mushroom Pilau Rice, my wife had Mixed Kebabs and Chicken Tandoori with Salad and Rice, my daughter had a Veggie starter, and a Tarka Daal, asked if we wanted drinks, we ordered a house red, I was pleasantly surprised when a bottle of Casillero del Diablo, Merlot appeared, turned out to be very nice choice. At the end of the meal, we all commented on how nice our food had been, also the whole front of house experience. I can honestly say it’s definitely the best curry I’ve had in a very long time and certainly the best in Letchworth. When we had finished our meal, we sat and chatted for a good while and no one bothered us, which I also appreciated. Thanks to everyone at The Indian Royal, for a really nice evening, you certainly are a fine dining restaurant.

Just had our first takeaway from the Inian Royal and it was first-class, could not recommend it more. The lamb melted in your mouth. Will definitely be ordering again.

Had a takeaway tonight and it was absolutely delicious. Every dish was tasty and cooked to perfection. Naan bread perfect and free poppadoms. Delivery was really quick too.

I visited as part of a group of seven work colleagues on a Tuesday night. I called to make a reservation and was assured that a table would be reserved. When we arrived I was quite surprised to find that it was quite so busy for a midweek evening. We were very well looked after, we had a mixture of bottled and draft largers. We went on to order the usual poppadoms with chutney and dips. Between us we ordered a wide selection of starters and main meals. One of our party was a vegetarian and another a vegan. We all agreed that the service was first class and the food greatly exceeded our expectations. I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to others and visit again. Well done all at the Indian Royal and thanks for a great evening.

Fancied a curry, on the way back to my hotel, this was at 10:40 p.m, all the tables were set, however the restaurant was empty, apart from a couple finishing off their meal, looked like it was about to shut, l went in, nonetheless, the waiter agreed to serve me, the service was excellent, as was the meal, couldn't have been treated better, will certainly visit the next time I'm in town..top marks

Really good meal last night. They squeezed us in on a Friday night when I hadn’t booked. Quick and efficient service and tasty food. Wide choice of dishes and very good value.

The food is delicious but THE SLOWEST SERVICE EVER! NOT JOKING! Most times I’ve been they’ve only had one waiter for a fully packed restaurant. Whoever owns this place, please give you waiters a break and employ another one. They work so hard and are so nice.

We love the Indian Royal and go there frequently. Staff is super friendly and can’t do enough for you, Salim ( the owner), Jess (hostess), Ali, Hassan, Abul, John (delivery) will make sure you are looked after. The food is tasty, lamb is soft, flavourful, spicy where needed, succulent! They have managed big and small tables well. We cannot recommend this restaurant enough. If you visit and like a bit of spice try the dilruba, tikka chicken/lamb, vindaloo, madras, pathia, spinach baji, onion baji, mushroom/vegetable/keema rice and naans. And they have some good wines and king fisher on tap!

Ordered a meal on line 25/6/23 never said there was no drivers. Money taken. E mail 10 mins later saying order cancelled as no drivers. Rang manager as not happy asked for taxi to bring meal up. He told me that service is not available. I asked why when I Ordered on line why did it not say services not available could not give me an answer. Bad management rude 😡

I have to say having visited many restaurants over the years Indian Royal is buy far the best I have ever tasted. When you sit in the staff are so helpful they can never do enough for you.the food is always fresh hot and very very tasty. I recently ordered a large take away for my family. It was amazing all my family loved it .I can't recommend this restaurant enough. We'll done to all the staff. Thank you.

I've been five or six times, trying something different each time and have never been disappointed by the food. There's a wide selection on the menu with lots to try. Service is generally good but they seem a little rushed at times. The atmosphere is a bit odd, it's hard to describe but not off-putting at all. I'll keep coming back as my main Indian restaurant.

Ordered a meal last night was 30 mins late no apology on why also half the meal was missing .they don't answer phone and quality of what was delivered was poor .im awaiting reply on reason and refund of money .Will update if they can be bothered...update they apologised for delay and said its the website and will take 5 days to refund money and they have .so my advice dont use website go in and order .

Came here tonight with my daughter the place was empty well there was 6 people in there it was about 620 we sat down and the most rudest waiter came over and said I'm very busy with orders tonight you've got an hour to eat and leave I said if it's to much a problem we will leave he said yh if you want to leave go the other customers in the restaurant all said how rude he was I've never felt so humiliated he should be sacked talking to customers like that I will never ever go there again

I have just moved to Letchworth and was hugely impressed with the food and the great staff. This will definitely be a regular haunt.

Indian Royal, Letchworth, We had a takeaway for 2 people the food was lovely the people behind the counter were great collection time was spot on. So much food we had Indian lunch the next day lovely.

Second time visiting the Indian Royal and I wasn't disappointed, the food was delicious and will definitely be returning.

Food has gone down a bit over the last year, currys seem to have more water added than ever before, hence not as tasty. Don't skimp on ingredients, customers will always know, hence why I have stopped using them.

Superb delivery curry. Took a while to arrive, but it was clear from Deliveroo. Excellent Lamb capiscum starter and lovely chicken Achari.

Quietly understated, this restaurant is really good with great service and reliably delicious food. Modern decor with some personality, there is also a quiet constancy to the high standards of this place. Have been coming here for several years now. As someone who is vegetarian-inclined and lactose intolerant there are options for me... However if they added a veg curry to their menu, made milder with coconut milk rather than cream from cow's milk, that would be the only improvement I could suggest..

Without a doubt the best Indian in Hertfordshire always a great meal in this place and staff are nice too.

Our first visit to this Indian as we often go to another very nice one in Letchworth. Quite modern inside and clean, I think it's been refurbished as no curtains or window dressings up. Food was very nice although the keema naan had so much coriander in it we didn't eat it. Service good front of house lady welcoming although a bit loud for such a quiet restaurant.

As someone who has dined here on and off for almost 20 + years I was really disappointed with my experience there recently. We had to wait over an hour for food with no explanation for the delay, I had to walk up to the bar area and alert a staff member who seemed surprised that we were still waiting. Our food then appeared minutes later so can only presume it was warmed up after being left sitting around for a while beforehand. There was a large group in the restaurant at the same time and the explanation given was that they were taking up most of the staffs time. I find this difficult to accept as I have been in countless restaurants busier than that and never have I waited this long. No one came round to ask / offer us further drinks. In all honestly were not the slightest bit bothered that we were not happy. Overall really disappointed as this was a go to restaurant of mine but sadly wont be on my list anymore.

I discovered this place through some colleagues who had been impressed by the quality of the foods. I came, I tasted and I was conquered. I will come back. Surely recommend this place.

Amazing and delicious mean and really reasonably priced. Lovely service and only downside would be not enough people were in the restaurant so it was a bit quiet.

This was our first time here. At first we thought it lacked atmosphere but it was clean and tidy inside. The ladies toilet was new, updated and very clean. We ordered 4 poppadoms with pickles. We were really impressed by the quality of the pickles. Their was a yoghurt based turmeric one, a red onion, a freshly cut onion salad with fresh coriander and a lime pickle that was quite hot. The poppadoms arrived still warm which was a first. We ordered 2 chicken Parthia which was really hot and the chicken was tender. Good amount served in new updated dishes so looked appealing. Then we had 1 mushroom rice which was amazing, honestly divine, a side of sag aloo with the potatoes actually cooked and not hard as in other venues I have been too, which had a good amount of spinach and was tasty. Lastly a garlic naan, medium sized, I have had bigger but pretty standard in terms of naan. Prices was very reasonable it came to £34 with a large cobra. I can honestly say that I would return. The service was great a lovely smiling friendly waitress and a chap who came in to serve the dishes and help to clear away. Really great Indian restaurant, we normally go to Baldock to eat an Indian but will actually drive here instead as the food was fresher, tastier and the venue was cleaner

Indian music in the background. White tableclothes. Poppadums and pickles.... Good old fashioned Indian restaurant. The food is fresh and well prepared. The vegetable Achari (lime curry) was excellent and so were the accompanying onion bhajis. The perfect dinner date after seeing a movie at the Broadway!

Fantastic place, I will preface that it took a long while for the meal to arrive once we ordered, but it is by far the best food in town and at a reasonable price. The drinks came near instantly and the same with poppadoms. Hot towels and an after eight with the bill, paired with very nice interior and table dressing made for an excellent night out. This was on a Saturday night so during the week may be quicker as it was particularly busy when I went.

We get meals regularly but tonight valentines day was extra special. The food was superb. And my wife received a red rose and a Box of Roses chocolates. Thank you! Can't wait till lockdown is over and we can come and have a sit down meal. See you again soon.

The year was summed up by the exceptionally poor service from the Indian Royal restaurant. I ordered a take away and was told due to being busy the takeaway would be 1.5 hours ( fair enough on new year eve ) so I ordered. After an hour and 50 minutes the take away had still not arrived, I called up to enquire and was told due to being busy it would be another 30 minutes, 45 minutes later still no takeaway. I called again and was told it was being bagged up now and would be 10 minutes more. After being the best part of an hour and a half late the takeaway arrived. Just to round off the evening when we opened the boxes 1 order was missing and 1 order was wrong! After yet another call and a further 20 minutes the missing orders were delivered. This was a total shambles and thought I can understand under the current climate the need for business the restaurant should not have taken the orders if they could not cope. There was no offer of reimbursement or adequate apology for a ruined evening. I will not be using this restaurant again.

Went with a couple of friends from London and had a fantastic Indian dining experience. Service was excellent, food was varied and well presented. Restaurant has a nice ambience and looks modern. Would definitely go back.

I went here with friends just before lockdown began; this place overall seemed reasonable; good food, and we got plenty to eat.

Used to be really nice but gone off a bit in recent times, not much competition since Sagar shut. Staff nice though.

We went in the first week of the new year and had tandoori breads from their tandoori oven. It was amazing. The food was exceptional and the service was very, very good. We'll be back in the next week or so for sure. Thank you!

I was meeting up with a group of friends over Xmas of which some travelled a good distance to be there, and on paper the restaurant seemed to tick the boxes.Unfortunately upon turning up at the restaurant for my telephone booking (that I only placed the day before), we found the restaurant in darkness and after looking on google found that it doesn’t even open on Mondays, and hasn’t for the last 8 years!This was obviously disappointing, and in this case we had to find an alternative Indian restaurant there and then.I cannot comment on the food quality, service or ambience as we didn’t even get through the front door!

Ordered 3:x Curry's @ 5.50 which come s to 16.50 3;pilau rice 6.00; 1;king prawn biriyna 10;00 bottle of coke 2;50; which comes to 35.00; they charged me 40.45 I queried it and they still said 40 .45 won't be going again it was so watery half of it was in the bottom of the bag

I ordered the royal king prawns for starter as a takeaway which was 6 pounds !!! There were 2 measly king prawn in the container when I opened!! Disgusted ! I phoned to complain and they just brushed me off as if that was normal !!

We visited this restaurant on a Saturday, early evening. We often eat Indian food and this was some of the best we have had. Very tasty curries with generous helpings of meat. Great quick service. We really couldn't fault it. The restaurant was really busy and it had a really good atmosphere. I would recommend.

We poped in to order food for the family and have it delivered at 7:30pm.Fisrt we got a delivery at about 7pm which we thought was odd, when we opened the bag we quickly realised it was not our order. We managed to get the delivery driver before he left and he was very apologetic and said that we were correct and it was not our order.We got our order and on time which was good, that's where all the good bits finish.The food was very bland and didn't taste great at all, we all looked at each and said it's not great. I was upset as the last takeaway we got from here wasn't the greatest either. I used to eat here a lot with my wife and knew one of the owners (the chilli grower) I'm really not sure what is going on here but it's not the same and the food is good at all.Sorry but it had to be said, this restaurant has really gone done hill fast.Mark Pritchard

Visited on a Tuesday when they do an offer on two or three courses. A group of 6 people visited all the plates were clear by the end of the meal, nothing was wasted and totally enjoyed by everyone. I will definitely visit again and not leave it so long. I had vegetable Samosa and chicken biryani simply delicious.

My starter of mushroom cocktail was the worst starter I have ever had in an Indian restaurant, how much oil is it possible to soak up into 2 breaded balls??? Chicken Madras was the bulk standard orange one that I have had in many low quality restaurants around the country and which I'm sure comes from a mass produced catering pack otherwise how can they all look and taste identical? Rice was stuck together but on the up side the naan was one of the best I have had. Staff were ok but not particularly attentive especially when it got busy. Have had a lot better.

Decent food for a fair price but a long wait for food and to be served, the waiter also brought the wrong drink once but it was resolved quickly without fuss.

Ordered online to save time.. but wated ages once i got there, finaly got home ended up with the wrong food when i got home (should have checked before i left but just wanted to leave asap) only thing that saved it a bit is the food i ate was good.. tho not worth what i paid for.

Well what a lovely surprise to find such a hidden little gem. Tucked away in the garden City it's self letchworth.walked in and was sat down and greated by a pint of ice cold hand poured kingfisher. then ordered the starters which was traditional spicy poppadoms with mint sauce and mango chutney. Following with the main and WOW what a main this was I absolutely loved it they delivered the perfect chicken naga the zing and zest complemented the spice from the bell pepper and other flavours of this Bangladesh dish. Mopping it up with hand made naan bread and chips (fries).

Poor customer service. Only asked if they provided a set meal for two and the idiot basically hung up on me.
